“Went to Q&A and book signing last night. She is very personable, funny, etc. Of course, I knew she would being a Southern lady (LOL). I am typing up some of the Q&As to share with my bookclub. I would be happy to forward to you if you would like to share with your readers as well.”
Heck yah!! Thank you SO much Lisa. I love inside news and upcoming series tidbits, and this certainly had me smiling. And pictures, too!! I admit, I still have to read Deadlocked (the latest in the Sookie Stackhouse series), and I’m getting all sorts of feedback on it. Some people happy, some people… not so much. Eeeeeep!! I’m scared of what that means, considering how the last book ended.
So here it is, True Blood, and Sookie Stackhouse fans! Charlaine continues to tease, but we do have some good insight here, too.
“Q&A with Charlaine Harris book signing:
Q: Bill or Eric?
A: Don’t know why people ask that as if those are the only choices (insert eye wiggle). <— side note from Maryse: Awwwww… for me there was only ever one choice… after book #1 that is.
Q: Are you going to publish another “companion” book?
A: I might publish an addendum, but not sure about another companion.
Q: Do you approve of the casting on True Blood as a good representation of your characters?
A: Yes because I am not great with casting, but I think they are a good portrayal.
Q: Why set the series in Louisiana?
A: I admired Ann Rice and her vamp series (BTW she emailed me once). She took the Southern part of LA (New Orleans) so I thought why not take the Northern part of the state that no one wants and instead of being so series be funny. I guess I was shooting for the anti-Ann Rice.
Q: Will Sookie travel in the last book?
A: I don’t think so. I think she will stay in Bon Temps.
Q: Did you have an end in sight?
A: Not after the 1st book because it took 2 years to get accepted for publication, but I did around the 3rd book. I have a phobia that this is the book (whichever one it may be) that they will figure out that I can’t write.
Q: Which one was your favorite book to write?
A: I have enjoyed all of them especially those that I had to do some research on – bomb in the hotel. I just love a good death scene.
Q: Favorite character? And are any based on real people?
Pam. I love writing her. And yes parts of them are based on real people, but not as a whole.
Q: Anything you are sorry about doing?
A: Killing Claudine. I shouldn’t have done that. <—– side note from Maryse: OH WOW!! I agree, but I never thought she’d say that.
Q: Does it upset you to hurt Sookie?
A: (laughs) No Way! <——- side note from Maryse… Tee hee!!!
Q: Why no Bubba in TB?
A: I asked Alan Ball about this once, and he explained that he would have to use an impersonator and that it would probably come off pretty cheesy.
Q: Do you know what will happen on TB? Do you see the scripts?
Q: What is the hardest part of a book to write?
A: Relationship scenes. They are just too awkward. <—– side note from Maryse… those are some of my favorites. Well back a few books ago, anyway. I loved the connection between Eric and Sookie, quiet and intense and sometimes infuriating… but mostly sigh inducing.
Q: Do you read other authors?
A: Yes, I read 4-5 books a week. I post reviews of the ones I enjoy on my blog. I don’t review the ones that I don’t like, because I wouldn’t want to do that to another author.
Q: Anything new coming out?
A: A graphic novel – Oh (laughs) and a new 3 book series. There will be some soups but not as much as the Sookie series.
Thanks again Lisa!! You did great, and I’m thrilled that you wanted to share with us.
