HAPPY ALMOST HALLOWEEN!! Probably already Halloween for most of us, since so many dress up for work and school. Yep, this Halloween is so much cooler ’cause we actually get TWO days of Halloween. :D Speaking of which… I’ve posted a few horror books amongst our latest book finds! I know… not everyone loves the scary stuff, but I just can’t resist my awesome-halloween mood, and the thrill I get from some of these scary blurbs.

But! Never fear!! There are plenty of romances and sexy alpha males to choose from, below. Actually, most “finds” are love stories, as that is always my favorite. I LOVE love. Plus some married couple troubles (love troubles in books are fun too) AND a few pregnancy *oopses*! LOL! :D

What I’m reading right now? Room: A Novel by Emma Donoghue, ’cause it sounds just creepy enough for my Halloween mood, and Lisa and Allison both recommend it!

Lisa: Oh my goodness Maryse. Room is an amazing book. At times I had to put it down and walk away to catch my breath. A child’s POV saves it from becoming unbearably dark I think. Its not one you can forget that’s for sure.

Allison: Room was very heavy. I read it probably not long after it came out and it stayed with me. It’s one of those books. It will always be with me. I hear a huge kidnapping story in the news, like Elizabeth Smart or those 4 young girls that were kept together, and I don’t know. I just look at those stories through different eyes since reading Room. Such an amazing, well-written book.

But first, I’m gonna highlight the most recommended book of the week. Walk Through Fire (Chaos) by Kristen Ashley —> And I MEAN it sounds like EVERYONE is loving this and like it’s pure “old-school” Kristen Ashley magic. So if you haven’t read it yet, or were waiting for reviews, it appears this one is proven tried and true and PERFECT for us!!

Barbara: “Finished Walk Through Fire by Kristen Ashley today.. I can’t even begin anything else right now. This book was her best yet! Loved it!”

Sara: I thought so too :) made me cry through so many parts… Walk Through Fire! OMG crazy good

Kimmie: Walk Through Fire by Kristen Ashley and it sooooo good. And the Feels!!!!!!

Linda: Just finished Walk Through Fire by KA. Never disappointed but “one event” would have made it perfect. Was sooooo hoping.

Stephanie: Once you get through about 30% of book, it really picks up. Very rough at the beginning but if Millie can forgive the way High treats her during that time then I guess I can, although he was very bad.

Niki: I agree Ela!!! Stayed up till 4 am because I started Walk through Fire last night…at 20% right now and it hurts!!!

Bethany: Finished Walk Through Fire and haven’t wanted to start anything else yet. It was a perfect read for me. Made me laugh, cry (a lot), and love!

P.S. Let me know if I’m missing any or if you loved any (from this list or elsewhere).

P.P.S. Don’t have a Kindle? No problem! Amazon offers various free Kindle apps and a free Kindle Cloud reader for any and ALL of us to use. You can either use the free Kindle App for your smartphone, tablet, AND your desktop computer (just like you’re using a Kindle, but right through your web browser <— No need to download anything! :D )

This Much Is True – Book 1 (Truth In Lies) by Katherine Owen <— Cheryl recommends this one! “I finally started This Much Is True (Truth In Lies series) by Katherine Owen, that I have had on my tbr list forever, because the last book in the series finally was released. It is sooo good. My tummy is in knots. The angst level is reminiscent of Thoughtless, wondering how this is going to work out. It says book 1 and 2 can be read as standalones, but it is recommended that you read them in order. I haven’t read the blurb for book 2, so not sure if it follows the same MC’s.

Finished reading The Queen by Tiffany Reisz. This is the last book in the series, but it was a lovely, sweet farewell to my Soren, Nora and Kingsley. Soren did indeed give Nora Everything and she gave him Forever. My heart is a squishy mess right now. Everyone got their HEA. This is one of the best book series out there. Tiffanys writing is so real. She brings her characters to life and you could imagine yourself at times in their world. If you haven’t read these books you Need to.

Now I’m reading Walk Through Fire and oh gosh, that KA has me again! She’s pure gold!

Oh and Crazy Bitch from the Alexa O’Brien series by Trina Lee came out today! Alexa, Arys and Shaz!! This is book 10! Another favorite of mine. I’m on overload!! Yeehaw!

Tessa October 30, 2015 at 4:21 PM

Bad Wicked Twisted. If you can get it, do. That series is just super fun. Remember the guy who was creepy watching his neighbor? That’s this series. :D

lisac October 30, 2015 at 4:40 PM

Can I read Walk Through Fire as a standalone?

Amy October 30, 2015 at 4:49 PM

*in a sing-song voice* I’m gonna get my gut punched! *dances and twirls around*

It’s been a while since I’ve had something hit me like Thoughtless or The Opportunist, and I’m lovin’ that I just might get that from This Much Is True!! Now I just need to sneak Manny away from Cheryl. ;)

And The Realm of You keeps piquing my interest sooooo I think that will be an upcoming read for me as well. Oh! And the book Invisible Love Letter by Callie Anderson…has anyone read it or heard about it? ‘Cause that blurb *jolted* me…

Paula October 30, 2015 at 5:06 PM

I’ve already been through the pain of This Much is True and the second one and considering purchasing the third…
So I am going to start Marley and go through the Carnage ringer again…glutton for punishment!

bev October 30, 2015 at 7:44 PM

*looks all around*
Where is everyone?
Who dresses up for Halloween? I don’t.
I think Maryse should be Abby. :-) And Amy America.
MichelleS could be Anita Blake.
Tessa could be Tess with the name and the hair.

Maryse October 30, 2015 at 7:52 PM

Tessa!! I love creepy peeping Tom neighbors!!!!

Er…. IN BOOKS. Always and ONLY in books. :P

Maryse October 30, 2015 at 7:53 PM

Amy! I must know how bad it hurts. The hurtier the better!! :D !!!!

Maryse October 30, 2015 at 7:54 PM

OMG bev!!!!!!

I wanna be Abby SO FREAKING BAD!!!!!!!

One time a long time ago, Jamie wrote something along the lines of (in a fun Facebook status)…

“If there wasn’t Abby, it would have been Maryse”

Of course… it was a picture of me sitting on a HUGE stack of newly published Beautiful Disaster books snuggling with them in my arms…

Tessa October 30, 2015 at 8:31 PM

Bev, here’s the super sad question of the day. Which Tess?

bev October 30, 2015 at 9:13 PM

Ooh guessing game.
You work in a cafe.

Amy October 30, 2015 at 9:27 PM

Oooooh!!! Maryse and I are gonna be Abby and America!! Except wasn’t Abby brunette and America blonde? Hey, we can wear wigs! And I still say Maryse needs to get “Mrs. Maddox” tattooed on her hip in Vegas next year like Abby did. ;)

bev October 30, 2015 at 9:38 PM

Hmmm. I keep thinking your blond.
Perry is brunette. Maryse could be Dex. And an eyebrow (?) Piercing way less permanent than a tattoo.

Tessa October 30, 2015 at 9:46 PM

Still clueless? lol

Amy October 30, 2015 at 9:52 PM

Nope, I’m a brunette…well, more auburn than true brunette but not as auburn as I used to be. No gray yet though so I’m happy. My mom was going gray by her mid thirties. :?

Perry!! That’s right! And she was short and curvy. I’m short and have…well, curves where I don’t want them but still curves nonetheless. ;)

Amy October 30, 2015 at 9:52 PM

I wanna play too…more clues, Bev?

bev October 30, 2015 at 10:08 PM

Amy, lucky about the grey. I highlight not that it really blends it. *shrug*
Let me see…….I feel like most clues would make it very easy to guess.
Its very cold outside the cafe.

Tessa October 30, 2015 at 10:15 PM

… I swear, the only thing that comes to mind is Tess from The Others series.

Tessa October 30, 2015 at 10:16 PM

Oh, and FYI, I had to get the book to verify she worked at a cafe shop. lol

bev October 30, 2015 at 10:18 PM

No, Tess of the d’ubervilles.

bev October 30, 2015 at 10:20 PM

Yes, Tess from the Others. :-P
She’s got the hair that curls up and changes colors.

bev October 30, 2015 at 10:22 PM

Michelle could be the Meg.

Tessa October 30, 2015 at 10:26 PM

I’d like that with Tess. She kind of is scary, but sweet. Perfect. :P

Amy October 31, 2015 at 12:05 AM

That’s unread. UN-read.

And you know what? SCREW IT. I’m just gonna keep adding to it. ‘Cause I can. And ’cause it’s fun. And ’cause I love looking at all my pretties (aka books!) all lined up in my library.

Yep, screw it. I love my books.

*tosses back shot of peach vodka*

Lisa October 31, 2015 at 4:36 AM

Maryse Penelope Douglas (Bully…,which we all loved) is releasing Corrupt….dark dark dark erotica (gulp). Couldn’t find it on Amazon but lots of chat about ot on Goodreads.

Paula October 31, 2015 at 5:20 AM

Amy – I am with you!! i will never stop 1-clickimg!

Cheryl October 31, 2015 at 9:21 AM

Nothing wrong with a one-clicking addiction!!

Just to add, the books in the Truth In Lies series follow the main characters, Tally & Linc. I seriously debated not starting book 2 because book 1 tore my gut up!! * sorry Amy, Manny needs a good cleaning before I give him back* But, I am reading book 2, it’s angsty too, but I feel like I am managing it better because of what the storyline is about. Having said that, I’ve had a hard time understanding how the h has handled what happened. At 50-60% it’s now starting to make sense. I will read book 3, but I’m scared because the author said “I hope you enjoy the book, but have tissues and drugs handy. Advil may not be enough this go ’round. And, I hope you still love me in the end…” *thunk*

bev October 31, 2015 at 1:47 PM

Somebody say something. The silence is getting awkward.

Tessa October 31, 2015 at 5:26 PM

Lisa There’s a lot of books coming this month that don’t have a pre-order. I’m not sure which of those I’m more excited about, Final Debt by Pepper Winters or Corrupt by Penelope Douglas. Both are a must read for me.

bev October 31, 2015 at 5:47 PM

bev October 31, 2015 at 5:56 PM

Off to get some treats for myself and then turn off the lights and read.
*evil cackle*

I’m a horrible Halloween person, lol.

Michelle October 31, 2015 at 6:28 PM

Oooo I would so be the Meg! I love her hair on the covers with the cool streak…not how it’s described in the books as orange yarn yikes!

Omg what am I going to start after Illuminae? Everything looks like poop and more poop…I might have to reread WiR just to appease myself while I’m coming down from my London-thick book fog!

bev October 31, 2015 at 7:16 PM

Nothing like the book cover.
Tell us what you really think about the books, lol.

Fabi, should totally be the Martian.

Michelle October 31, 2015 at 7:38 PM

Started This Much Is True and whoa that went sideways fast…I think I will go get the tissues now.

Amy October 31, 2015 at 9:51 PM

It looks like the awkward silence was broken already, but I’ve been struck with a STUPID flu today (on Halloween of all days, dangit) and in my feverish state I remembered something that made me start giggling to the point where my hubby freaked out thinking the Tylenol wasn’t working and that my brain was frying, LOL! Anyways, I’ll share it and see if I can make things even more awkward for ya, Bev. :P So, my “random remembering”…

I can’t remember all of the details so I’m going to paraphrase as best I can, but it was some book I read quite a while ago when I was at the height of my YA PNR-reading days where fairies are actually plants and the females have flowers that grow out of their backs instead of wings. And those flowers are used in reproduction. Yeah, how would you like your vulva on your back for all the guys to see, ladies? WTF. Just…W. T. F. But the HILARIOUS part is when this guy fairy gets some kind of guy fairy stuff on her (can’t remember if it was pollen or glitter or whatever) and he tells her that it has something to do with reproduction…the guy totally PE’d fairy style on her!!! *snorrrrrrrrrt*

Okay, back to my honey lemon tea and soup. Mmmmm, soup. Me and soup are best buds right now. ;)

Amy October 31, 2015 at 9:53 PM

Oh, and the guy fairy stuff came from his hands. *snicker*

bev October 31, 2015 at 10:08 PM

Amy, I hope you feel better. No fun.:-(
As to that book…….no words.
But isn’t it fun when you remember something funny and get the giggles all over again. Though hard to explain.

Tessa October 31, 2015 at 10:47 PM

That book is… um… It defies words.

Just finished the whole trick or treat thing. By the time we were done, they were practically dumping all the candy into the bags. :D

Lisa October 31, 2015 at 11:57 PM

Happy dance. The Game Plan – Kristen Callihan waiting for me on my kindle this morning.

Just finished Pucked Up. Perfect light book. 20% into Walk Thru Fire and its enthralling. Best one in this series KA. I sense angst ahead!!
Happy Halloween book people: )

Fabi November 1, 2015 at 8:03 AM

Just peeking in to hay *Hiii* – gotta get back to moving but…

Bev, I’ll totally be Mark Watney – perfect!

Michelle, Michelle, Michelle, you’re killing me and I love it. Just can’t wait to get to that book.

Lisa, I was going to start Pucked Up next but its been *delayed*. It might be the perfect one for the book fog I’ll be in after Illuminae.

Cheryl November 1, 2015 at 9:18 AM

Amy I share your pain. Got the STUPID flu too. Soup is good, so is lying on the couch (all bundled up with fireplace full blast) reading.
Reading book 3- Tell Me Something True and I have to say the MC’s are just as f*cking dysfunctional and their personal lives are just as devastating as Tristan & Danika. Book 1 definitely had the highest angst level, but book 3 is the most devastating. My next book has to be lighthearted and funny while my heart and gut recover. *crawling back into blankie fort with Manny*

Cheryl November 1, 2015 at 9:20 AM

Amy that is hilarious. I love it when a random thought about a book creeps up on you and makes you laugh out loud!! ;)

fabi November 1, 2015 at 9:40 AM

Awww Amy, dangit. I meant to say get well soon.

Maryse November 1, 2015 at 9:43 AM

So is that where everyone went? I miss you guys. My sister just left yesterday and I had the blues… *sniff sniff* It’s so hard when you spend every waking moment with someone and and bond all over again, and then they have to go. Kind of like when I get really attached to a book and the characters, and then it’s done. Especially when it’s a series and you marathon read it, and then I spend the day in a book fog missing them.

I was in one of those fogs yesterday.

But I’m feeling much better today. I’m back!!! :D

Maryse November 1, 2015 at 9:44 AM

*hugs and tucks in all of the sickies, here*

*brings hot toddies to everyone*

*discreetly sprays Lysol*

*snort* :P

Maryse November 1, 2015 at 9:46 AM

I’m finishing up “Room” today.

Cheryl November 1, 2015 at 9:46 AM

Awww, Maryse. I understand completely, all my family lives out of state, so when they visit it’s 24hours of togetherness and that makes it so hard when they leave!! *hugs*

fabi November 1, 2015 at 9:47 AM

Awww Maryse. I know what you mean. It’s tough living far from loved ones. *hugs*

Awww Cheryl, just saw you are sick too. *hugs* (long distance ones)

Maryse November 1, 2015 at 9:51 AM

LOL Amy!!

What book was this? Did you guys already say (I’m backtracking over the comments)

So like they pollenate each other? With glitter? Sounds like my kind of book! hahah!! :P

Maryse November 1, 2015 at 9:54 AM

Oooh Corrupt!!?? Thank you Lisa. Now I too will stalk it. :D

Paula November 1, 2015 at 10:46 AM

Cheryl – I am seeing mixed reviews on book 3 – is it good? Worth it? One persons review said they wanted to erase it from their mind!!

bev November 1, 2015 at 12:08 PM

All the UK people. I am completely obsessed with your BBC Desert Island Disc. OBSESSED, lol. Just heard of it a couple days ago and can’t stop listening. Great stories and music. Just wish the podcast played the whole cut. I wish I had it when sick a bit ago. Amy give it a whirl if you are not up to reading. Obsessed.

bev November 1, 2015 at 12:12 PM

Maryse, speaking of missing family. I listened to Judi Dench ep of above show and for awhile she her husband, daughter, mom, and in laws all lived together. They’d had a vacation together and missed them so much when gone her husband suggested it.

Cheryl November 1, 2015 at 12:23 PM

Paula, I just finished book 3. It is good and worth it to get to the end of Linc and Tally’s journey. I can see why that one reviewer said that, it seems just when you think that nothing else can happen to them and that finally they will be happy, something far worse happens. It was a hard read, nothing about their relationship has been rainbows and unicorns- I equate it to Tristan & Danika’s devastating, dysfunctional relationship. My only complaint about this series is it is a rollercoaster of emotions to read, but the endings wrap up quickly- especially 1 & 2. I now need time to decompress and read something with rainbows and unicorns. ;)

Paula November 1, 2015 at 6:20 PM

Thanks Cheryl – I have purchased it and it is on my TBR I will give it a go as soon as I am in the mood for an angst overload!

Amy November 2, 2015 at 3:12 PM

You know what I love? Waking up feeling almost 100% better after being sick all weekend! :D

Okay, so I had to look up that fairy book I was blabbering on about the other day because – I kid you not – I was frequently snorting at the most random moments every time I would think about it this weekend. It was Wings by Aprilynne Pike. I don’t even remember if I really liked it or not because nothing really stands out (except for the pollenating thing) and I didn’t star it in my spreadsheet. *shrugs* I just remember being pulled in by the pretty cover while I was at the height of my YA PNR reading frenzy.

Hang on, I HAVE to pull a couple of passages for y’all that had me cackling (literally) while I read them out loud to hubby this weekend…

Sooo, it was sparkly powder from his hands that he left on her, and when she asked him about it, he said…

“The male produces pollen on his hands and when two faeries decide to pollinate, the male reaches into the female’s blossom and lets the pollen mix.”

*bites lip to hold in snicker*

Then when she asks to see some of his, ahem, “pollen” he tells her…

“I don’t have any right now – you’re not in bloom anymore. We only produce pollen when we’re around a female who’s in bloom. That’s why I forgot and left some on your wrist. I haven’t been around a female with a blossom in a long time.”

Not gonna laugh again…

*covers mouth with hand*

BAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!! I can’t help it!! He totally got TOO “happy” waaaaayyyyy too quickly! PE sucks, doesn’t it dude??? LOL!!!

Tessa November 3, 2015 at 12:43 AM

ROFL That’s pretty um… Only when in bloom? So what? She’s pregnant or did it just miss and get on her wrist instead? Is that a form of a hand job?

Amy November 3, 2015 at 11:57 AM

A hand job?? LOL!!!!!

From what I remember, the “flower” blooms on her back which pretty much means she’s fertile and he can stick his hands in and pollenate her. OMG, I’m cracking up again here. :P

Alright…last one and then I have to get caught up on my work…

(this was from earlier in the book) “Don’t worry,” he said. “I’ll keep my distance from your blossom…I know whose petals I’m allowed to get into and whose I’m not.”

*snort-choke* And this is YA?!? LOL!!!!

Maryse November 3, 2015 at 12:08 PM

Tee hee!!

Her “flower”

I laugh when I read books where the heroine calls it that. In this case, it really IS her flower. *snort* :P

Amy November 3, 2015 at 12:38 PM

Right?!? And her “flower” is right on her back for all the world to see! *shakes head* Those poor, horny faery boys…

Lisa November 3, 2015 at 7:41 PM

OMG!!! I’m pretty sure I would NEVER want my ‘flower’ on my back for all the world to see and potentially ‘stick their hand in’ Baaahaahaa.
Amy where do you find these books!!!

Tessa November 3, 2015 at 8:05 PM

I’d heard of the book and had considered buying it many times based on the cover and well, faeries. So glad I hadn’t. Though it sounds um… funny?

Amy November 3, 2015 at 8:39 PM

Ha! *points to Tessa* Even she was intrigued by the cover! Check it out, Lisa…

Wouldn’t you have been drawn in by that? ;) I found it when I was devouring any YA PNR I could get my hands on. And now I’m feeling all nostalgic…

Lisa November 3, 2015 at 8:48 PM

Actually that cover looks familiar….Ive probably picked that book up and considered it based on that cover …..and my obsessive perusal of YA/paranormal/contemporary romance book shelves where ever I go. I can see why you picked it up Amy. :)
No hint of vulvas on backs and boys with spunk on their hands. *smirks*

Amy November 3, 2015 at 9:00 PM

OMG LISA!!!!! You said it!!! You actually said it!!!!! You said…you said…

*falls off sofa*

Tessa November 3, 2015 at 9:22 PM

Seriously! I think my library has it. I remember reading a little or something and being bored, or just thinking the back sounded familiar. But it is a NY Times Best Seller. *baffled*

Lisa November 3, 2015 at 9:25 PM

….POLLEN!! I meant POLLEN!!!!

Amy November 3, 2015 at 9:35 PM

Oh no, lady…no, no, no…too late to take it back now!!! You said it!! :P

I know, Tessa…maybe it only seems dirty to us “older” females and not to the younger ones?

Tessa November 3, 2015 at 10:33 PM

One 4 star review had me grinning though.

‘Random Book-Thought Moment: Tam, you need to wear gloves whenever Laurel’s in bloom. We readers can see right through your shenanigans. ‘

Amy November 3, 2015 at 10:40 PM

*hee hee* No glove, no love.

Tessa November 3, 2015 at 11:01 PM

Wait. If she’s a vegan, like the review says, then does that make her a cannibal?

Amy November 3, 2015 at 11:22 PM

That depends on if he is considered meat or vegetable.
