Happy 1st of JULY (and Happy Canada Day to my fellow Canadians)!! :D I have a nice list of book-goodies for us to play with over the weekend! Some tried-and-trues (like my beloved Travis there to the left) and some new ones (Tara Sivec just released one and the blurb had me snorting!!!). Plus, I included one that there is no way I can read it (even as awesome as it sounds). My poor heart will NOT be able to take it. Still… it’s perfect for the list.

Look what we found! (NOTE: bargain priced when I added them, but prices can change on Amazon, so make sure to check before you finalize your order. Sales listed are for Amazon U.S., however some of the Amazon UK links also reflect the sale!):

bev: Landline the MCs are married. During a crisis point in their marriage she realizes that the phone in her childhood bedroom allows her to talk to her husband in the past. …It is a good read especially if you like the married couples books.

Sadie: you should check out Landline too. It was very good!

Amy: Don’t worry, I clicked Landline as soon as I saw the sale. ;)

  • Darker Water (Once and Forever Book 1) by Lauren Stewart <— SUPER-ANGST & WITTY DIALOGUE ALERT! So many here loved it! And guess what? Book #2 is coming out in just a few days!!!!! :D !!!!!!

bev: Darker Water had that great quick witted banter, love that. Wish more books had dialogue like that.

Anne: …it was Bev and I that loved Darker Water. Oh there’s angst you just wait ;)

Cheryl: Finished Darker Water and I loved it. Full of angst; my only complaint is I felt the ending was rushed. I did read there will be a novella. :)

Anne: Cheryl so happy you liked Darker Water! I thought the ending was a little rushed too. Happy to know there’s going to be a novella :)

Lisa: Does anyone know when Lauren Stewart’s Virtually Impossible comes out….I thought it was due 2015? I read the first in this series Darker Waters ages ago and loved it.

Nancy: Darker Water by Lauren Stewart was one of my favorite books of 2015 and for a limited time it is 99 cents in advance of her new book Virtually Impossible (Once and Forever Book 2) which will be released July 5.

  • ON AIR by Hadley Quinn <— RECENT RELEASE! SHE’S A MORNING RADIO SHOW HOST and he’s obsessed with her… “I was determined to find out who the voice belonged to no matter what it cost me. But in doing so… I may have made the biggest mistake of my life…
  • Leo (Sign of Love) by Mia Sheridan <— MIA SHERIDAN SUPER-BARGAIN! Every book in the whole series (except for the latest release) is on sale! (here’s my Book Review of this one)
  • Leo’s Chance (Sign of Love #2) by Mia Sheridan
  • Stinger (Sign of Love, Scorpio) by Mia Sheridan (here’s my Book Review)
  • Archer’s Voice (Sign of Love, Sagittarius) by Mia Sheridan <— ONE OF MY FAVORITE BOOKS EVER! (here’s my Book Review)
  • Becoming Calder (Aquarius) by Mia Sheridan <— part 1 of 2
  • Finding Eden by Mia Sheridan <— part 2 of 2
  • Kyland by Mia Sheridan (here’s my Book Review)
  • Grayson’s Vow (Sign of Love) by Mia Sheridan
  • Midnight Lily by Mia Sheridan
  • Trinity by M. Never <— JUST RELEASED STEAMY ROMANCE ALERT! “…they were alluring and irresistible. They were also the enemy. Their company wants to take the one thing that means anything to me. Now, I’m navigating a dicey path. Loving two men who can destroy me in a multitude of ways…”
  • Better When It Hurts: A Stripped Standalone by Skye Warren <— FORBIDDEN LOVE WITH HER FOSTER BROTHER and it’s super-bargain priced! “Now he’s back. Tougher, harder, meaner. All of it aimed at me, because I was the one who sent him away. It’s payback time…”
  • The Disappearing Girl by Heather Topham Wood <— Paula recommends this one! “By the way,  a book I absolutely loved is currently free.  It’s ‘the disappearing girl’ by Heather Topham Wood.”
  • Lily and the Octopus by Steven Rowley <— TEARJERKER ALERT!!!!!! And there is no way I can read this. No way. But it sounds beautiful, but I can’t. Not this one.Just the blurb put a lump in my throat. Oh but I’m adding it anyway, ’cause of the awesome reviews, and it’s bargain priced today!
  • Lucky Star: A Hollywood Love Story by Rebecca Norinne Caudill <— JUST WENT LIVE! BEST FRIEND BECOME LOVERS & HE BECOMES FAMOUS ALERT! “As the two struggle to overcome the guilt and uncertainty that comes with crossing the line from friends to lovers, their problems are compounded when Cameron is cast as the lead in a major Hollywood blockbuster. Now, instead of navigating the pitfalls of any brand new relationship, the couple is forced to endure the murky underbelly of Hollywood gossip and the stress and pressure that comes with being shoved into the spotlight.”
  • Copping It Sweet by Anna Clifton <— HER BEST FRIEND’S BROTHER (A COP) IS BACK IN TOWN… “…none of that compares to the return home of Detective Sergeant Cooper Halligan, her best friend’s brother and the single biggest threat to the secret she’s guarded for years…”
  • Tiny Pretty Things by Sona Charaipotra <— SUPER-BARGAIN MEAN-GIRLS?? ALERT! This is a book that bev read recently (was on one of her lists) and she says:

“…these little ballerinas are intense. Three different povs. They all want to be to be THE top ballerina and take matters into there own hands.

On one hand it is fun/crazy on the other it kind of feeds into the whole girls can’t handle competition. The blurb calls it a mix between Black Swan & Pretty Little Liars so it is supposed to be that type of book, lol.”

  • Purple Orchids (A Mitchell Sisters Novel) by Samantha Christy <— SOCCER PLAYER + ANGSTY-SOUNDING ALERT! Oh this sounds good!! And it’s super bargain priced today (Kindle Countdown deal), and it’s a standalone!

“Baylor didn’t know what true love was when she arrived on campus for freshman orientation. Enter bad boy soccer player, Gavin, who was all too happy to take her on that journey.

Everything was perfect . . . Until it wasn’t.

He didn’t realize what he lost. She didn’t know love could be so cruel.

One day . . . one moment . . . one letter. One lie.
That’s all it took to change the course of their lives.”

  • AUDIOBOOK L:DVERS

For those going on a road trip soon, or maybe you’ve got some projects that require both hands this weekend but still allows you to “listen”… check out the free audible trial + 2 free audiobooks deal —>

  • AND! Here’s the fun-tool again! —> Find out which of YOUR Kindle books are available as audiobooks at a BARGAIN-PRICE! <— This thing is so cool (Amazon calls it “Matchmaker“)! It’s an Amazon feature, that scans your Kindle books and will list all of the ones you have that are also available as an audiobook at a discounted price (not normal audiobook prices). This way, you can switch back and forth, seamlessly between your ebooks and your audiobooks. VERY COOL!

“…A distraction who played like a God yet partied like a Devil.
I tried to stay away. I couldn’t.
Then, the team started losing.
Women started dying.
And everything in my perfect world broke apart.”

Hey Maryse,
Just wanted to give you a heads up that Eversea is currently free for Kindle via Amazon. I recall that you have recommended that one before.

Jean July 1, 2016 at 12:49 PM

1-clicked Landline and Darker Water. As much as I love Seth King, I need a break from tears after Full Tilt which I don’t think I’ll get out of my head for a long time…..

The sales on those Mia Sheridan books is great! I’ve read every single one (including the last one) and love them all!

Maryse, will you please consider reading A Lover’s Lament? I think you will love it! (Trying to ask nicely as opposed to bev’s bullying….lol!)

Robyn July 1, 2016 at 1:12 PM

Ooooooo……I just got Landline! I read the blurb on Amazon and got that tingly feeling. Talking to her hubby in the past to save their relationship in the, present…I’m all over that!

bev July 1, 2016 at 1:57 PM

Ela July 1, 2016 at 3:27 PM

Amy July 1, 2016 at 4:18 PM

*gasp!* Is everyone actually using their real names?? :P

Moonshot…holy moly, what is THAT all about?!? I am SO preordering it.

Amy July 1, 2016 at 4:30 PM

I have a book for our Death Club (*sticks out tongue at Bev*)…My Last Love Story by Falguni Kothari is on sale for .99 and it looks SAD but intriguing.

Cheryl July 1, 2016 at 5:09 PM

Definitely pre-ordering Moonshot! My fav author!

Love the cover of Purple Orchids. Gonna read the sample…

bev July 1, 2016 at 5:16 PM

Who is being the bully now?

*points at Amy just so there is no confusion*

Maryse July 1, 2016 at 6:03 PM

I’ll ask Sherlock, just to make sure…

Amy July 1, 2016 at 6:07 PM

No idea what you’re talkin’ about, Bev. I mean bev. Or is it Beverleeeeeee?

*turns away and sips crushed watermelon martini*

:P

Amy July 1, 2016 at 6:08 PM

Maryse…my dear…*whispers* don’t encourage her!!!

bev July 1, 2016 at 6:08 PM

“Only Sherlock knows”

Cheryl July 1, 2016 at 6:09 PM

*grabs Amy’s crushed watermelon martini* OMG that’s so good!!

Cheryl July 1, 2016 at 6:10 PM

What’s your recipe?

bev July 1, 2016 at 6:11 PM

Maryse is playing mind games with me.

Cheryl July 1, 2016 at 6:16 PM

Didn’t someone say Juked was their favorite June read??

Amy July 1, 2016 at 6:17 PM

*looks at empty hand* HEY!!!

Fine, I’ll make more. ;) The recipe is just crushed watermelon (I use the blender) and 2 parts vodka to one part Sprite. It tastes amazing!

bev July 1, 2016 at 6:18 PM

Sherlock did.

Amy July 1, 2016 at 6:18 PM

*snort*

Fabi July 1, 2016 at 6:34 PM

How many parts watermelon. And what size are all the parts? Please explain in fine detail for us non-cook types. Yes, I consider mixing a fancy drink ‘cooking’

Robin Hill July 1, 2016 at 6:39 PM

Yes explain in detail. Fabi will try them out next weekend! See how I slipped that in there!?

Fabi July 1, 2016 at 6:40 PM

Robin is trying to get me drunk

bev July 1, 2016 at 6:41 PM

And naked.

Amy July 1, 2016 at 6:43 PM

BAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!

Amy July 1, 2016 at 6:48 PM

You just measure 2 parts vodka to 1 part Sprite and then add as much or little crushed watermelon as you want. So, if you use 1/2 cup vodka then you would use 1/4 cup Sprite and then add the watermelon. If you don’t want them as strong, you can use a 1:1 ratio.

The pitcher I just made (yes, I really AM drinking them right now ;) ) had 1-1/2 cups vodka, 3/4 cup Sprite, and 3 cups watermelon. And woo-hooooo is it strong and tasty! :D

Robin Hill July 1, 2016 at 6:50 PM

Bev! I’m ashamed. If Fabi wants to run around naked that’s her prerogative. But I will lock the gates. And live tweet.

Fabi July 1, 2016 at 7:10 PM

Thanks Amy.

Dang Robin, I didn’t realize it was that kind of party. Alright then. But no cameras allowed.

Robin Hill July 1, 2016 at 7:12 PM

It wasn’t…but then Amy went and screwed us all up with her yummy goodness. No. No cameras!! I second that.

Fabi July 1, 2016 at 7:14 PM

Amy fault — yup, I’ll go with that.

Robin Hill July 1, 2016 at 7:16 PM

You know…I still have a couple rooms available if Amy wants to corrupt us in person…

Maryse July 1, 2016 at 7:25 PM

Oh crushed watermelon martini…. NOW THAT sounds like EXACTLY what I need right now.

DG July 1, 2016 at 8:11 PM

Cheryl – it might have been me. This Old Heart of Mine and Juked of my fav reads for June

Lisa July 1, 2016 at 9:08 PM

Happy Canada Day Maryse. What are we doing? Dringing Maple syrup flavored cocktails?
What is the tradition on your National Day?
PS Moonshot one-clicked.

Cheryl July 1, 2016 at 9:13 PM

Thanks DG. Looking at Juked now…

Anne July 1, 2016 at 10:12 PM

Trinity sounds hot! One clicking :)

Amy July 1, 2016 at 10:27 PM
Amy July 1, 2016 at 10:30 PM

And speaking of Trinity…where the heck is the third Holy Trinity book? *sigh*

MichelleS July 1, 2016 at 10:59 PM

Holy Trinity…. NO KIDDING! She’s been busy writing & releasing other books. Hmph! What the fata?

Tessa July 1, 2016 at 11:59 PM

Jean July 2, 2016 at 9:08 AM

Oooo Amy thank you for that info! Love that series because of you!

Tessa July 2, 2016 at 12:39 PM

Amy, when was the last time a Trinity book was written? Yeah, so I give up waiting. I’m not doing another LJ Smith wait again.

bev July 2, 2016 at 12:45 PM

*waves to MichelleS*

bev July 2, 2016 at 12:52 PM

Are you reading Moonshot, Maryse?

bev July 2, 2016 at 3:01 PM

Hey ladies, was there some kind of deal for prime with student id?
May not be able too because I have tried there free o e month trial before, but I can not remember how to access.

Maryse July 2, 2016 at 3:11 PM

I am bev!!! I have a hard copy so my magic highlighting finger doesn’t work. :( But I have post it notes. ;)

bev July 2, 2016 at 3:23 PM

I always feel smart when I try to get the definition, lol.

Fabi July 2, 2016 at 3:26 PM
Tessa July 2, 2016 at 3:31 PM

Bev, you need those little sticky page marks. Then you won’t have to worry about sticky notes.

MichelleS July 2, 2016 at 3:41 PM

**** waves back at Bev ****
(why are we waving?)

bev July 2, 2016 at 3:43 PM

IDK, lol. You wanted us to move. Heh.

bev July 2, 2016 at 3:45 PM

Thanks Fabi, I’ll see if I can figure it out.

R. Renee July 2, 2016 at 3:51 PM

Hey all!

R. Renee July 2, 2016 at 3:52 PM

It worked Maryse:)

R. Renee July 2, 2016 at 3:53 PM

Just popping in to say hi! My husband has kidnapped me for yard work. Shhhh! He doesn’t know I’m in here ;)

So…I don’t like being RH on here! I have Maryse’s permission to revert back to R. It just felt weird…ya know? I apologize for name-gate and my resulting identity crisis. AND MichelleS’ identity crisis…cuz clearly she was having one too. Shei’tani? I rest my case.
But…if we dig really deep here…I think we can all agree this is somehow UK Bev’s fault. Am I right?

UK Bev July 2, 2016 at 3:54 PM

Hey, now.

R. Renee July 2, 2016 at 3:58 PM

Did you guys all secretly DM each other and sneak back to Monday’s page? :(

bev July 2, 2016 at 4:03 PM

Just a quiet day.
Jean is out on the Cat’s Meow.
Amy is furniture shopping.
Maryse is practicing magic, with her finger.
But the others.
*waves to MichelleS, Tessa, Fabi*

R. Renee July 2, 2016 at 4:05 PM

Lol bev! Thanks :)

Jean July 2, 2016 at 4:06 PM

Haha R. Yep UK bev’s fault, totally!

Jean July 2, 2016 at 4:07 PM

Bev! You remembered my boat’s name!

bev July 2, 2016 at 4:07 PM

What is a dm?

Jean, we are crashing your boat party.

bev July 2, 2016 at 4:08 PM

Well, you are famous.

Jean July 2, 2016 at 4:09 PM

I would so love to have you all out on our boat! We would have so much fun!

MichelleS July 2, 2016 at 4:20 PM

I’m supposed to be cleaning house. Instead, I’m watching UEFA EURO cup. We’re in overtime. And checking in here. I’m cheering for Germany, BTW.

bev July 2, 2016 at 4:36 PM
Tessa July 2, 2016 at 5:34 PM

*waves back enthusiastically*

DM, Dungeon Master?

Tessa July 2, 2016 at 5:36 PM

How many freaking soccer championships are there?

R. Renee July 2, 2016 at 5:47 PM

Oh sorry. DM=direct message. Still doing yard work. I think it’s like a thousand degrees in Texas today.

bev July 2, 2016 at 5:57 PM

Is there a secret D &D group on here?

Wouldn’t that be funny if you were all friends on fb. Your other friends would be like who are all these ladies?
Though I swear I post on here more than I text during the day.

Tessa July 2, 2016 at 6:47 PM

lol A D and D group wouldn’t make my friends question me too much, other than a “you play?”. More, some would want to join. :) Some of them just adore the stuff.

Jan July 2, 2016 at 7:23 PM

Moonshot tomorrow. Can’t wait :-)

Amy July 2, 2016 at 7:31 PM

…aaaaaaaand now he’s buying fireworks.

Lord help us.

Our neighbors are going to hate us.

bev July 2, 2016 at 8:04 PM

Just as long as you’re not going to set them off at 1 am, I’m sure they’ll be fine.

Fabi July 2, 2016 at 8:06 PM

Why am I seeing a comment from UK Bev in my email notifications but not on the thread itself?

I think she’s finally saying “hey now” to R saying she started the mess. ’cause yeah, sheesh, she was the innocent bystander

I think we’re all in trouble now. *evil laugh*

Fabi July 2, 2016 at 8:07 PM

Oh I bet Maryse has to approve the post since y’all went crazy with name changes

Fabi July 2, 2016 at 8:11 PM

Amy, it’s the fourth, as long as you guys live in the US, I’m sure you’re neighbours will understand.

LOL I just came back from a guitar lesson with my English instructor. The whole time I kept repeating to myself ” remember to NOT wish him a happy 4th, remember, remember…”

Maryse July 2, 2016 at 8:28 PM

I approved it!! :D

Maryse July 2, 2016 at 8:29 PM

YAY R. Renee!!!!!! :D

bev July 2, 2016 at 8:35 PM

Hey, who mentioned a maple drink on the 1st?
In Food Network magazine they have to celebrate
Stir 1 TBS maple syrup & a dash of vanilla extract into cold seltzer.

Not to sure about that.

R. Renee July 2, 2016 at 8:40 PM

Yay Maryse!

Crap. Did UK Bev bust me? Hi! :)

MichelleS July 2, 2016 at 8:43 PM

UK Bev lurks on the blog???
Eating popcorn…

R. Renee July 2, 2016 at 9:01 PM

There was a message from UK Bev in email, but apparently not in the thread.

Fabi July 2, 2016 at 9:04 PM

UK Bev, you’re gonna have to post again since Maryse says she approved it. *Waiting to see R busted*. hehehe

Jan July 2, 2016 at 9:13 PM

Ooh. Rockstar book squee!! Nalini Singh’s Rock Wedding is up for preorder at last. Final book in her Rock Kiss series. Abe’s story. Comes out Jul 19. Click!

July is shaping up nicely :-D :-D :-D

Tessa July 2, 2016 at 9:30 PM

It’s up there where R blamed her for the name change. :D

R. Renee July 2, 2016 at 9:30 PM

I think somebody’s messing with me…

Tessa July 2, 2016 at 9:33 PM

ROFL It’s Bev. Look at that little monster.

R. Renee July 2, 2016 at 9:47 PM

Bev!! Shame on you!

bev July 2, 2016 at 10:11 PM

Maryse is saying Moonshot is a slow burn. Always love that.

Anyone else slightly restless?

Tessa July 2, 2016 at 10:26 PM

Nope. I’ve been reading the Devil’s Assistant trilogy and am on the last one. :) It’s intense.

bev July 2, 2016 at 10:32 PM

Yes, need to pull my book out.

marina July 2, 2016 at 10:45 PM

I know I’ve pushed the Jack and Jill series a lot but just wanted to give a heads up that book one, End of Day, is FREE on amazon right now. There is a new book of Jewel E. Ann’s which is coming out in July. It’s called One and it’s a standalone but does involve characters from the series. So I think would be best to read the series first. This series is truly sooooo good!!

DG July 2, 2016 at 11:24 PM

Speaking of fireworks….at 12:23 my time…someone in shooting them off! Amy…is that you???

DG July 2, 2016 at 11:25 PM

I mean seriously….you wait until midnight to START shooting them???? *looking at ground shaking head*

Amy July 3, 2016 at 9:10 AM

Hehe…well, hubby DID go a little crazy buying them. But I threatened to ground him if he didn’t wait until tonight when it’s legal to set them off, so that had to be your OTHER. rude neighbors. ;)

Amy July 3, 2016 at 9:16 AM

I totally thought UK Bev finally did post here until I saw all the comments that it was OUR Bev, and then saw that yep…that’s her little monster up there. *giggle*

Fabi…why can’t you wish your guitar/English instructor a happy 4th??

R. Renee July 3, 2016 at 9:28 AM

We’re setting them off Friday. As soon as Fabi falls asleep ;)

I sent out my monthly newsletter yesterday (littered with Happy Fourth!) and then after Fabi’s post remembered the majority of them are in Europe.

Elzbieta July 3, 2016 at 9:36 AM

Morning *shouts* HOPE NOBODY HAS A HANGOVER

Fabi July 3, 2016 at 9:58 AM

omg R, you didn’t…hahaha

ummm, Amy…the English were on the other side of our Independence celebration.

Fabi July 3, 2016 at 10:00 AM

Oh, and R – just so you don’t get your hopes up – I sleep through anything

R. Renee July 3, 2016 at 10:08 AM

Haha yep. 2 in England and then Belgium, Denmark, and New Zealand.

There will be no sleeping! Have you been on Twitter lately Fabi? I tweeted a pic of the treehouse last night we’d just run electricity to for kindle changing! *best place to hide and sleep* lol

bev July 3, 2016 at 10:27 AM

I’m craving potato salad, lol.
Time to put the book down and leave 1875 Hampshire and go be productive.
I promise myself I’ll do all the chores on the weekend then it comes and all I want to do is be lazy.

Fabi July 3, 2016 at 10:44 AM

I’m the opposite Bev. I try my hardest to get all my errands and most chores done during the week so I can laze around with a book as much as possible on weekends.

bev July 3, 2016 at 10:50 AM

Fabi, I may have to try that. I mean I’m working anyway.

Amy July 3, 2016 at 10:56 AM

Er, oh yeah…I knew that Fabi.

*blush*

Fabi July 3, 2016 at 11:04 AM

*hides watermelon Martini mix from Amy*

bev July 3, 2016 at 11:16 AM

Well, he must not be holding a grudge if he lives here.

DG July 3, 2016 at 1:18 PM

Ela – did you by chance change YOUR name??? Or do we have a little bit of mischief making???

DG July 3, 2016 at 1:20 PM

Amy – hopefully those OTHER rude neighbors shot all of them last night…*crossing fingers but sadly knows there is NO hope*

DG July 3, 2016 at 1:30 PM

So I took FOREVER to get around to reading SOULESS by T.M. Frazier…(decided to reread Lawless first so I could be full on)…and I would give it a good 4.5 stars! LOVE, love, lovey LOVE Bear and Thia…a MC but not really all out MC book. Just really love those tatted bad boys…and Pancake!!! So…ready for the next 2 books in this series….*crosses fingers, hoping Ms Frazier telepathically hears my wishes for next ones to be about our ‘returning ghost’*

Fabi July 3, 2016 at 2:14 PM

*old age setting in*

Did I already mention that Strong Signal is on sale for$0.99 (down from $4.99)? If you like m/m romance, this is a five-star.

Fabi July 3, 2016 at 2:16 PM

Tessa, started reading Ignite this morning and was immediately sucked in like coke through a straw. I thought I’d read this before but I’m not remembering any of it. (see old age note above)

MichelleS July 3, 2016 at 3:18 PM

Good Sunday afternoon ladies. I am reading Full Tilt, because Maryse 5-starred it and several of you loved it. So far so good.

No fireworks at my house. They are banned in the city I live in. Lots of fireworks shows going on tonight though. Hey Fabi, you ever been to Boom Town in Addison? I hear it’s a blast.

bev July 3, 2016 at 3:32 PM

Wow, you jumped into Full Tilt, R will be happy.

I wonder why so many early 4th fire works.

Fabi, what time for Poldark?

R. Renee July 3, 2016 at 3:35 PM

R is super happy! The cult is growing muhahahaha!! Sorry. Tipsy off of Ela’s martinis…

bev July 3, 2016 at 4:07 PM

Finished Cold-Hearted Rake. I can not wait for Pandora ‘ s book.

Tessa July 3, 2016 at 4:41 PM

Fabi, I really liked ignite, though it did feel like an in-between book. That’s not bad, but the first as a definite 5 star for me.

Why is everyone doing fireworks on the third?

DG July 3, 2016 at 4:48 PM

Folks where I live break out the fireworks at the drop of a hat…nothing better than a “quiet night” in the country with the sounds of fireworks and race cars…

With that said…tomorrow night will sound like a war zone…it never fails to have someone purchase the big ones, which are very similar to the public displays…

R. Renee July 3, 2016 at 5:16 PM

Same here. If we weren’t doing yard work all weekend we would be popping every night! Personally it would be cheaper to light rolled up twenties but my husband shuns that idea.

Amy July 3, 2016 at 5:20 PM

In the little town where I live, it’s legal to set them off starting on the 3rd. It used to be the 2nd but I guess it got out of hand. Probably because of people like my man-child hubby (who I adore but sometimes want to throttle).

He bought an “adult” version of those kids’ poppers which you can throw on the ground and they pop loudly, but these sound like a .22 being fired. At least that’s what hubby said it sounded like…to me it just sounded like a freaking canon.

At least the poppers weren’t illegal last night. :?

bev July 3, 2016 at 5:31 PM

Your the neighbors that would scare my dog, lol.

bev July 3, 2016 at 5:41 PM

Are you making a big feast, Amy?

Fabi July 3, 2016 at 5:41 PM

MichelleS I haven’t been to Boom Town. I’m a total homebody now (as opposed to what I was like in my 20s). Honestly, I don’t know how R convinced me to go out of town and meet so many strangers. I’m still scratching my head at her powers of persuasion. (and very much looking forward to it!)

Bev, idk, maybe 8ish? Late tonight might work too. I’m barbequeing for the fam and later will likely be sprawled out on the couch.

R. Renee July 3, 2016 at 5:49 PM

Only six!! (other strangers) and I haven’t met them either! (in person). We have this weekend planned to the hilt. You can’t NOT have fun!!! Still have a room available Michelle…

bev July 3, 2016 at 5:49 PM

Either or, just let me know. I’m easy.

Fabi July 3, 2016 at 5:59 PM

Only six!!! *groan*

Fabi July 3, 2016 at 6:01 PM

Bev, I’m letting you talk me into this in spite of having tons of recorded unwatched episodes on my DVR. I hope you remember I like action films and don’t enjoy romance on the screen like I do in books. In fact, I watched the 2nd Captain America last night (seemed appropriate for the 4th) and loved it. It was jam packed with action scenes.

Fabi July 3, 2016 at 6:04 PM

DG, when I lived out in the country I always bought the big Pappas of fireworks. I shot them off for the kids in our ‘backyard’ over the pond. It was awesome!!!

DG July 3, 2016 at 6:17 PM

Bev…we used to bring my old dog (Weimie) in on the holidays, he just couldn’t handle it. Our current dog is an in and out dog and will stay in as well. Poor babies…

Amy – that made me think of the clip I saw earlier of guy who thought it was cute to put a sparkler in his pants and then it got out of hand…..

bev July 3, 2016 at 6:19 PM

It’s an hour fabi, so if you don’t like it a lot less investment than a bad book.

Tessa July 3, 2016 at 6:52 PM

Hah. Over here, it’s illegal. They put on the news all the places it wasn’t illegal. Yeah, there are that few that the list of allowed is shorter than not allowed. Still, you know some people will have them and set them off illegally. It’s inevitable.

bev July 3, 2016 at 6:55 PM

Yes, all over. Scares me though when really dry out.

Fabi, I’ll be home in a little while so let me know when you want to go to Cornwall.
MichelleS are you still going?
Tessa, come on you like a historical.

MichelleS July 3, 2016 at 7:07 PM

Going to BW Poldark? Yes!!! Is that what going to Cornwall means?

Fabi July 3, 2016 at 7:15 PM

Bev,I haven’t even started grilling yet. It’s probably going to get too late for you. If so, we can always stick with tomorrow night.

Jan July 3, 2016 at 7:30 PM

I’m 34% into Moonshot and really liking it. Had to stop reading cos it feels like something bad is about to happen. I need a break to calm myself for the train wreck I think is coming. Nooooooooo……….. Be strong, Jan. Be Strong.

Think I’ll go and do some mindless housework for a while before bracing myself to read on. Huh. Maybe I’m imagining it and all will be well for my trusty H and h. But I don’t think so……….. :-/

bev July 3, 2016 at 7:31 PM

Fabi, I’m west coast time, so two hours behind? You and MichelleS will have the late time on either day.

Do you grill, Fabi? Sounds like a fun night.
When you go to R’s the first time you run around naked & drunk they’ll leave you alone.

bev July 3, 2016 at 7:32 PM

Yes, MichelleS it takes place in Cornwall. We will watch it this summer a nd then visit next summer, k?

bev July 3, 2016 at 8:11 PM

Jan,MichelleS my political talk, lol. I’d never really knew of the Toast until it was closing down.

http://the-toast.net/2016/06/27/if-barack-obama-were-your-dad/

Jan July 3, 2016 at 8:30 PM

:-)

Hey, Cornwall in summer sounds nice. I say, go for it.

bev July 3, 2016 at 9:01 PM

Doesn’t it?
*sigh*

Maryse remarked that Moonshot was a slow burn?

Cheryl July 4, 2016 at 9:30 AM

Just got back from our little town parade. So fun. Mad at my son though, he wouldn’t get up and his girlfriend was in the “Queen’s court” float. He says he didn’t know. Ugh, feel I’ve failed my Mom duties. *shakes head*

Just finished Juke- thanks DG for the rec. Enjoyable read. Now starting Moonshot. I can’t wait-Alessandra Torre is my fav author and sports theme is my fav story-line!!! Heaven!!!

bev July 4, 2016 at 9:55 AM

Tessa, started Poison Princess. I’m liking it, but one problem. Not sure about the way the Cajun students are portrayed. Like the girl from the bayou needs to be the one walking around in the mini and braless?
But it does point out the hypocrisy of HS, which is funny. I mean they saw Evie in the car first day, and some of the comments her bf makes, but they are going to talk about the new girl.
But I’m in to it.

bev July 4, 2016 at 9:57 AM

Lol, Cheryl. I think he failed in his boyfriend duties. ;)

I love when a favorite trope favorite author combo comes out.

MichelleS July 4, 2016 at 10:50 AM

Bev – Cornwall next summer! Sounds amazing. I have a cousin who lives in St Austell. I could visit her while there.

bev July 4, 2016 at 11:19 AM

Sounds like a plan.

bev July 4, 2016 at 11:28 AM

Pssss. MichelleS, look. But who is doing the cooking on that stove?

http://hookedonhouses.net/2015/10/14/october-cottage-a-magical-mooreland-retreat/

Fabi July 4, 2016 at 12:21 PM

I just finished Ignite. Once again Tessa, thank you so much! I wasn’t expecting it to be as good as it was. I definitely hadn’t read it before. An easy five stars for me.

Cheryl July 4, 2016 at 12:21 PM

Started Moonshot. I’m enjoying it so far, but the quick chapters and dual POV is dizzying. Different writing style.

bev July 4, 2016 at 1:28 PM

Happy Independence Day!

Grey July 4, 2016 at 2:45 PM

Holy crap… you bunch of chatty cathies… or alter-egos… miss me?

We were camping over the long weekend. Just got home a bit ago and of course, now I’m catching up here first LOL! I’m an addict I tell you. I missed all of your antics!

I am reading Playing with Monsters by Amelia Hutchins and FLOVING it. Seriously, it’s a great book. It could be a 5 star read for me…and I haven’t give out a 5 since Dangerous Girls way back in February…

MichelleS July 4, 2016 at 3:06 PM

BEV! FABI! I can’t find Poldark when I do a search on my DirecTV… Trying to set it up to record since I have company! What channel is it on?

Amy July 4, 2016 at 3:32 PM

Just wanted to pop in and wish everyone a Happy 4th of July!!!! :D

We have family here right now and I went absolutely CRAZY with the menu, so I have been making food most of today…but it’s so worth it because yum!! Then we’re off to the festival and then fireworks and then the fireworks here at our house.

Cheryl…I agree with Bev that your son failed in HIS duties. You’re doing just fine in your mom duties. ;)

Amy July 4, 2016 at 3:48 PM

Bev…the feast today is three different kinds of ribs (including some with this sauce http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ina-garten/foolproof-ribs-with-barbecue-sauce.html which is beyond amazing), bleu cheese burgers, regular burgers, bratwursts, loaded baked potato salad, corn on the cob, antipasto salad, a hummus tray, a bruschetta tray, a veggie tray and a cheese and fruit tray…and that’s not including what others brought. ;)

Oh, and copious amounts of mixed drinks and jello shooters!!

Have a safe and fun holiday, ladies!!! :D

bev July 4, 2016 at 3:51 PM

MichelleS, it’s not on TV, the first season has already aired. But, PBS is the station in the US.
You can download from Amazon, free if you are Prime. Or Netflix.

bev July 4, 2016 at 3:52 PM

Amy that all sounds amazing & really fun. :)

Lisa July 4, 2016 at 5:28 PM

Started Moonshot and loving it so far. Chapters are quick and punchy so far so Im intrigued about the slow burn.

R. Renee July 4, 2016 at 5:29 PM

I’m still doing yard work and Amy has me freaking starving to death! I want to be reading!!! Le sigh. Maybe next week!

MichelleS July 4, 2016 at 6:22 PM

I put in Poldark in search & there’s nothing!! Not on Netflix and not on PBS. What am I doing wrong? Argh!!!

bev July 4, 2016 at 6:38 PM
bev July 4, 2016 at 6:44 PM

Hmm.
Netflix might not be streaming it.
Amazon instant video has each ep, but 1.99 each. Or free if have Prime.

bev July 4, 2016 at 6:56 PM
Cheryl July 4, 2016 at 7:32 PM

Amy & Bev. I ultimately agree about my son; I’ve just tried really hard to raise a gentleman. Believe me he got a serious talking to when we got home from the parade!!!

Amy, what a spread. I want to come to your house to eat (and drink)!! Hope your hubby is safe with all the fireworks he bought!!

R. Renee July 4, 2016 at 7:56 PM

Cheryl did you finish Moonshot?

Fabi July 4, 2016 at 8:05 PM

Bev it’s probably going to be 8 or 8:30 your time before Poldark and I meet. Just FYI. ;-)

Tessa July 4, 2016 at 8:09 PM

*waves to Grey* Welcome back! Where did you all go camping? PwM was a five star fighting with the last Others book for best book 2016 so far. You gotta tell me what you think when you’re done. (I really gotta read Dangerous Girls.)

I’m reading Lover’s Lament and really enjoying it. It’s not a 5 star read, but the emotions do feel real. I think if it started with the past, not the past distributed throughout, I’d feel those emotions more. That said, make Pov is perfect. Better than the female POV.

Leslie M July 4, 2016 at 8:12 PM

I signed up for the free month of Amazon prime JUST to watch Poldark! :)

bev July 4, 2016 at 8:19 PM

MichelleS, did you find it?

Sounds good Fabi.

LeslieM, yay!

bev July 4, 2016 at 8:25 PM

Cheryl, that is awesome that you’d talk to him about that. I’m not sure many parents do, you know? I mean about being thoughtful of each other.

Fabi July 4, 2016 at 8:30 PM

Yeah! There’s 4 of us for the BW. That’s awesome. I’m watching war planes fly overhead right now.

I have Lover’s Lament lined up. I have to read a loan and an ARC first. Then I’m on it. Maybe I’ll save it for R’s retreat. Even though I trust Jean not to destroy my heart, I have a feeling it’s going to be more heartbreaking than I’ve been reading recently.

R. Renee July 4, 2016 at 8:45 PM

Baby steps Fabi. *slides box of Kleenex in Fabi’s room*

Grey July 4, 2016 at 9:12 PM

Tessa, we have a camper, no way is my spoiled princess self sleeping on the ground… no way. LOL! We camp with my brother and his children so it’s a big mess of people and food and campfire and booze… haha! A great time was had by all. We go to different campgrounds, kid friendly and live the dream.

But now, I feel like I need to sleep a week to make up for all the sleep I didn’t get haha!

Hmm, I have A Lovers Lament, I have an ARC to read after I’m down with PwM but I think that will be my next read.

Fabi July 4, 2016 at 10:27 PM

Alright Bev, I’m about to meet Poldark

bev July 4, 2016 at 10:35 PM

Ok.
Wonder if MichelleS found it.

Lisa July 4, 2016 at 10:35 PM

Im agreeing with Tessa on Lovers Lament. A solid 4 stars for me and I loved the Hs POV. So nice to read a book based on REAL grown up problems with no convuluted plot twists….just a true CR.

Lisa July 4, 2016 at 10:39 PM

It did make me reflect a lot about what the families of our troops go thru. The fear.
And the absurdity of ‘modern’ day conflict; when a soldier can be in the midst of a brutal fire fight one minute and then in a matter of hours be pushing a trolley around Costco with his family and trying to adapt to that change.

Lisa July 4, 2016 at 10:44 PM

Ooh. I just reminded myself of this amazing book I read
The Yellow Birds by Kevin Powers.
About a vet trying to forget what he’s seen and done and fit back into the world. So sad and so painful to read. Really powerful.

bev July 4, 2016 at 10:47 PM

Poor, Ross.

Cheryl July 4, 2016 at 10:57 PM

Thanks Bev.

No R. not done yet. At 40%. I’m reading slowly, savoring. Although, don’t get me wrong, I love her writing, I’m just not sure where the heck this is going yet and “things” about it bother me. However, I am sure SH!T is going to hit the fan.

R. Renee July 4, 2016 at 10:59 PM

Let us know when you’re done. The reviews on GR are all over the place!

bev July 4, 2016 at 11:14 PM

Its like scenery porn.

Cheryl July 4, 2016 at 11:37 PM

OMG. At 50% and NO. I can’t believe what just happened!! This book is officially killing me now.

bev July 4, 2016 at 11:45 PM

Finished. I’ve watched most of the original a couple years ago so already have favorites, but…

Demelza! And Verity.
And Ross is so handsome and broody, lol.
I wonder about the names, which I love, Nampara & Wheal Leisure.

Fabi July 4, 2016 at 11:55 PM

Just finished. Thanks for clarifying the names. Other than Elizabeth and Ross I didn’t really catch any others. Agree the scenery is breathtaking. Do you know if it was filmed in Wales?

bev July 5, 2016 at 12:10 AM
bev July 5, 2016 at 12:14 AM

*sigh *

I’m ready for bed, but my neighbors just started their fireworks.
Feeling very unholiday like but still have same wake up time.

Lisa July 5, 2016 at 1:28 AM

Ahhh 4th of July! Wondered what the fireworks were about. Prnny just dropped.

Maryse July 5, 2016 at 8:25 AM

My sister is now here again and arrived on Sunday, so we spent a calm 4th of July hanging out together and making food… and “listening” to fireworks. LOL! Loud and clear. :P

Maryse July 5, 2016 at 8:29 AM

YES! Thank you Lisa. I’m adding it to today’s list…

R. Renee July 5, 2016 at 8:31 AM

We heard enough fireworks to tick off my poodle, but not nearly as many as usual. Think maybe because of the long weekend they were spread out over the days. We’re saving ours for Friday :)

bev July 5, 2016 at 8:40 AM

R, they didn’t last as long around here as ususl. Probably, like you said.
Lisa, lol. So that is an acronym. I thought you were trying to type Prinny for some reason. And I was trying to remember if that was the king during the revolution. LMAO.

Maryse July 5, 2016 at 8:41 AM

Oh this is GOOD news Grey. I know everyone went crazy for her other Fae Chronicles…

Maryse July 5, 2016 at 8:42 AM

You’re right Cheryl… in the beginning it was a bit hard to follow for me too.

Maryse July 5, 2016 at 9:13 AM

YAY Marina!! I got it. :D

Jean July 5, 2016 at 10:10 AM

Hey guys! Hope everyone had a fun weekend! I’m so curios about Moonshot!

Didn’t get much reading done this weekend, but I’m at 60% of Forget and yeah, I see a sh!tstorm coming! Amy, did you read it?

Leslie M July 5, 2016 at 10:21 AM

I’m just starting Idol and it freaking better be good as I can’t deal with book slump any longer. *clenches fists and stomps feet like a brat*

However, I am a little weirded out that he gets hard… *blushes* …when performing?!?

Maryse, hope it’s ok I said “hard”. *giggles like a 12 year old who said bad word”

Maryse July 5, 2016 at 12:34 PM

LOL Leslie!!!! *snort*

It’s “hard” not to giggle. ;) :P

Maryse July 5, 2016 at 12:36 PM

YAY Jan!!!! I’m adding it and updating the reading order. :D

Grey July 5, 2016 at 2:58 PM

I’m hoping that PwM stays a 5…I’m not quite done with it yet LOL, hope I didn’t jinx myself!

Wait a second…is R.Renee hosting a real life party for some of us??? *pout* I’m sad I wasn’t invited!

Jean, who is Forget by??

Jean July 5, 2016 at 3:08 PM

Grey, N.A. Alcorn

R. Renee July 5, 2016 at 5:15 PM

Grey!!! You’re all invited! I even posted a link to the flyer!! Bring it! I go have 2 private rooms left and 8 additional cots! And all food and most booze ;)

R. Renee July 5, 2016 at 5:19 PM

Link: http://www.robinhillwrites.com/retreat.html

Except the part that says “Neil’s homemade pizza”… cuz Neil canceled lol. We’re even screening Debbie Does Dallas on the side of the house during fireworks (sh… don’t tell Fabi) epicness :)

DG July 5, 2016 at 5:35 PM

R…that sounds like a load of fun! *sighs heavily while wishing I didn’t have kids camp*

DG July 5, 2016 at 5:37 PM

Here’s my question about PwM…is this part of a on going series that I need to wait or read?????

Fabi July 5, 2016 at 5:54 PM

0|o DdD? A classic.

bev July 5, 2016 at 5:57 PM

How close are your neighbors?

bev July 5, 2016 at 6:02 PM

Anybody seen Amy?

R. Renee July 5, 2016 at 6:17 PM

It will be muted lol…but I think you might be able to see it from the road! Hopefully I don’t cause any wrecks.

Amy July 5, 2016 at 6:23 PM

Here I am, Bev! :D *waves* I’ve had family here the last couple of days so I’ve been tied up with them and the holiday stuff. AND I just realized earlier that it is Tuesday which means a new Maryse list, so I still have to check that out because I wouldn’t miss one of those for anything!

Jean…I haven’t started it yet (I know, bad Fat Amy) but then again I haven’t had time for ANY reading the last few days. :( I may or may not start it tonight, it just depends on if I am in the mood for it and can really get into it. At least I know you (and everyone here!) can relate to that dilemma. ;)

bev July 5, 2016 at 6:26 PM

Check out the comments on the new post, Amy.

bev July 5, 2016 at 6:27 PM

Well, Fabi. Watching porn with a bunch of strangers is one way to break the ice.

R. Renee July 5, 2016 at 6:29 PM

Right??!!

Jean July 5, 2016 at 6:29 PM

Fat Amy is the worst BRer. Lol! Just kidding girl….I get it!

bev July 5, 2016 at 6:31 PM

But a good singer.

Amy July 5, 2016 at 6:32 PM

R…check your GR. ;)

OMG you guys!!! Hubby went crazy with the fireworks, and pieces kept ending up on our neighbors’ roofs!! One of his fireworks imploded and blew up on the ground, and a piece hit the top of my foot (it freaking hurt!). Then another one did something he wasn’t expecting (because why would he read the description) when it shot up in the air, spun around, and threw sparks everywhere. I finally had to cut him off when one of those pieces was still glowing bright orange as it landed on a neighbor’s house. Yes, I was the crazy lady out there yelling at her husband to knock it off or we were going to get run out of the neighborhood.

Oh, and this morning I found a dent on the hood of our car from the shrapnel of one of his fireworks. Our car isn’t even six months old. It’s OUR car (we don’t call the cars his and mine…they are always just “ours”) but I drive it 90% of the time so I am ticked!! He’s lucky he is good looking. *snort*

Amy July 5, 2016 at 6:33 PM

Nah, that’s the other Fat Amy…the real one. She has a GREAT voice! Mine is just scary. :P

R. Renee July 5, 2016 at 6:33 PM

Actually it’s not as bad as it sounds. It will be ambiance if you can imagine. I bring the romance!

Amy July 5, 2016 at 6:33 PM

Checking out the new post now…

R. Renee July 5, 2016 at 6:35 PM

Yes! Thanks Amy!! I PM’d u but I will again as soon as I get home out of this heat!!

Amy July 5, 2016 at 6:44 PM

*looks at reading of 64 degrees on outdoor thermometer*

Um…ice cold cocktail, R? *holds out blended melon martini*

Grey July 5, 2016 at 7:51 PM

R, I wish I was in Texas…. I would totally go to the writers retreat, my muse has deserted me in a big way… watching porn while drinking with a bunch of online friends… oh boy, I can’t wait to hear the play by play of these shenanigans!

And skinny sexy Amy (I refuse to call you fat Amy, ever…) your husband is lucky he’s good looking, *giggle* oh Lord, he better be bowing down and kissing your… foot…. after his bad behavior…

Amy July 5, 2016 at 8:40 PM

Oh, believe me…he’s gonna be kissing SOMETHING for a long time after last night’s behavior. :P

You’ve seen Pitch Perfect though, right Grey? Because Fat Amy is my favorite character in that movie!!

Amy July 5, 2016 at 8:41 PM

And I appreciate that sweeter-than-sweet comment. *big hug and cheek smooches*

R. Renee July 5, 2016 at 9:39 PM

Omg Amy, yes please. If course I read Blind Melon lol. Clearly I’m still in the 90s!! I think Fabi will be fine but my LA friend is not gonna dig this heat!!

R. Renee July 5, 2016 at 9:41 PM

Grey! Plan for next year! We’re going to pick a weekend and make it annual! My phone is seriously going to need a breathalyzer this weekend! Maybe Fabi can hide it for me!!

Fabi July 5, 2016 at 10:49 PM

You’re not scaring me away. No, not at all. I always go to swinger parties now that I’m 50 years old. :-/

R. Renee July 5, 2016 at 10:52 PM

Swinger?? What? Hmmm…

Grey July 6, 2016 at 8:16 AM

Oh yes, I love Fat Amy, but still, you’ll always be Super Sexy Skinny Amy to me LOL!

I will wait to hear all about it R. Renee, baited breath indeed!!
