Happy Friday and happy Father’s Day weekend everyone! It’s off to a great start, ’cause we found goodies!!! Er… well, maybe not for our fathers (since the goodies are romance books), but hey! Gotta indulge ourselves too, right. 😛
New releases, and reader recommendations, and a few highlights from next week’s preorders. From dark-read psychopaths, to a cop investigating a girl raising her siblings in her mini-van, to a rock star/step brother (hey why not?! LOL!!) to falling for your boyfriend’s roommate… there are love stories below, for all your romance moods. 😉 Plus, there’s a pre-order below that just WRECKED one of our fellow readers, and I. Can’t. WAIT!!!
P.S. I’d love to hear what you’re reading right now (or will be reading this weekend). And/or let me know if I’m missing any or if you loved any (from this list or elsewhere).
Look what we found! (NOTE: bargain priced when I added them, but prices can change on Amazon, so make sure to check before you finalize your order. Sales listed are for Amazon U.S., however some of the Amazon UK links also reflect the sale!):
- Bet on Me (Bet on Love Series Book 2) by Rachel Higginson <— JUST RELEASED! RACHEL HIGGINSON ALERT! And it CAN be read as a standalone! She’s dead-set on her future focusing on her med-school education and eventual career (and love… later). “Until the night she has one too many drinks and lets lust override logic. Beckett Harris is gorgeous, talented and completely bad for her…“
- LUKA (The Rhythm Series, Book 2) by Jane Harvey-Berrick <— JUST RELEASED! SOUNDS FORBIDENNY ALERT! “I love two people. I love them differently. One is a man. One is a woman. And they are brother and sister.”
- Before That Night: Unfinished Love Series: Caine & Addison, Book 1 by Violet Duke <— JUST RELEASED! SHE’S SECRETLY RAISING HER SIBLINGS & HE’S THE COP SENT TO INVESTIGATE ALERT! “Before that night, Addison would never have thought the man she’d been fighting hard not to fall for—her only friend in her new shadow of a life—would be in a position to rip her family apart. Before that night, Caine would never have believed any woman could make him fall head over heels, let alone make him feel so damn compelled to look the other way when it came to his job. Then that one perfect night changed everything…“
- Bad Beats: A Rock-Star Step-Brother Romance by C.L. Riley <— JUST RELEASED!
- Down and Out (Hawks MC: Caroline Springs Charter Book 3) by Lila Rose <— JUST RELEASED BIKER BOOK & SHE’S HOMELESS BUT GETS A JOB AS HIS NANNY! “Living out of her car, she’s learned life isn’t worth regrets. When Mena takes the job of nanny and housekeeper for Dive, she doesn’t know what she’s getting into…”
- Written on My Heart by Cole Gibsen <— REALISTIC ANGST ALERT! This one is back on the list ’cause Tessa recommends it!
Tessa: I ended up really liking Writen on my Heart. It felt real, and the angst was real, not contrived. I just wish it was longer just so I can stay in their world. My only complaint was the romance was too quick. However, even that, the L word wasn’t used, just I like you, let’s see where this goes. That’s where the extra story could have been. I also just wanted more resistance at the beginning. The angst, emotion, and discovery were there.
- Weightless by Kandi Steiner <— JUST RELEASED! And I can’t figure out from this blurb what it’s about… other than it sounds angsty. “He stole my innocence. He scarred my heart. He took everything I thought I knew about my life and fast-pitched it out the window, shattering the glass that held my world together in the process. I remember the lights…” AND… CM is loving it! “I’m reading this now and it’s sooooo fabulous. I’m giggling and angsty all at the same time.”
- Carry On by Rainbow Rowell <— TASHA 5-STAR LOVED IT! ROMANCE WAS SIGH INDUCING & SLOW BUILD ALERT!!!
Tasha: I finished Carry On and I 5 star loved it, the ending was bittersweet for me and I’ll miss being in their world.
bev: Tasha, wasn’t Carry On wonderful? I loved how the spells worked.
Tasha: Bev, it was amazing! The spells were so clever and witty. And her writing style just sucks you in. I was intrigued at first with the similarity to Harry Potter but it became its own really early in. When Baz came in is when it really sucked me in though. I loved him from the start and he and Simon’s quarrels were amusing and thrilling. But I loved Penny and Agatha too! She really gives you such depth with each character that you feel you know them. And the romance was one of the most sigh inducing slow builds I’ve read in a while! The story as a whole was just perfect and had everything I love in a good book!
- Unmatchable by Sky Corgan <— JUST RELEASED! HER NEW BOSS ALERT?! “Kicking him out of my office is one of my greatest pleasures…until I find out that he totally lied about his identity. Someone is going to get fired over this, and it might be me. Now Mister Barnes is after me. After me in the most unexpected of ways.“
- Hook & Ladder 69: Eighteen Authors…One Sexy Firehouse. <— JUST RELEASED/SEXY FIREMAN ANTHOLOGY ALERT!
- Chaos Walking: The Complete Trilogy by Patrick Ness <— TERRIFYING DYSTOPIAN ALERT!
bev: Hey, has anyone here read the Chaos Walking books by Patrick Ness?
Lisa: BEV!! Yes I loved Chaos Walking….the first line in book one, The Knife of Never Letting Go, is the best line ever……….The first thing you find out when yer dog learns to talk is that dogs don’t got nothing much to say. about anything. Loved that YA dystopian series…quite terrifying for a YA fiction.
- Wolf’s Surrender: Part of the Immortal Ops World (Shadow Agents / PSI-Ops Book 1) by Mandy M. Roth <— JUST RELEASED
- What Alice Forgot by Liane Moriarty <— IF YOU LOVED “AFTER I DO”, READ THIS ONE!
Tasha: I saw After I Do mentioned up there and it made me think to mention What Alice Forgot by Liane Moriarty. If you loved After I Do you will love WAF! I still think of this book all the time, it’s one of my top faves for sure!
R.Renee: Tasha, you’re speaking directly to me (and maybe a few other people). Thank you! Adding What Alice Forgot to my TBR right now. What a blurb! Yay!
Maryse: speaking to me, that’s for sure. That is one of my FAVORITE books. I may have even already one-clicked this one! *fingers crossed*
Amy: *looks up What Alice Forgot* BAM!! Already have it.
Maryse: YES!!!! I have it, too!!! *wheeeee* I know what I’m reading this weekend. Thank you Tasha!!! 😀 Buddy read, Amy? And everyone?!! Buddy read?? 😀
- Into the Tomorrows (Bleeding Hearts Book 1) by Whitney Barbetti <— JUST RELEASED! FALLING FOR HER BOYFRIEND’S ROOMMATE ALERT! “Moving to Colorado to be with Colin, my high school sweetheart, was the perfect way to start over and rekindle what had begun to fizzle. I wanted that spark to ignite, to burn in passion and desire. Instead, I found myself falling for Jude, my boyfriend’s roommate…”
- Doomsday Love: An MMA & Second Chance Romance by Shanora Williams <— JUST RELEASED! NEW MMA fighter book!! “He’d broken my heart–left me hanging for years. He ruined us. And, now, he’s back. He wants me…”
- A Lover’s Lament by K.L. Grayson & BT Urruela <— SHE WRITES TO A SOLDIER ALERT! “I didn’t expect him to write back. I wasn’t prepared for his words, and I certainly wasn’t ready for the impact this soldier would have on my life...” and it’s super-bargain priced right now!
- Six by K.I. Lynn <— KIND OF A PSYCHOPATH ALERT! Er… not the author. The hero. *snort* Niki is enjoying this one!
“This book is really good so far!! Tessa you might like this one since we like similar books… the hero is pretty dark emotionally since he is kind of a psychopath…but I’m really enjoying it!!”
- The Man I Love (The Fish Tales Book 1) by Suanne Laqueur <— ROMANCE ANGST & BETRAYAL & TRAGEDY ALERT! One of my recent favorites is on super-sale right now! Happy birthday, awesome book!! (P.S. Here is my review)
Terri: Oh boy!! I 100% recommend this book. All of them actually. One of my very favorites of all time.
- The Ground Rules (Book 1) (The Rule Breakers Series) by Roya Carmen <— FORBIDDEN LOVE ALERT! Once upon a time, this book made my stomach hurt… in a deliciously angsty forbiddeny way! And yesterday was its birthday. And on its birthday, it has become… bargain-priced!! Here’s my review… and reaction video.
Jasmine: The series hurt my stomach too! I was destroyed just like when I read Arsen! It took me a while to recover from this series! These authors know how to keep our blood pumping!
Melissa: This series was seriously addicting!
- Some Sort of Love (Jillian and Levi): A Happy Crazy Love Novel by Melanie Harlow <— SEXY SINGLE FATHER ALERT! This recent release is super-bargain priced! “Levi Brooks is six feet four inches of hot bearded fantasy. A sexy single dad with broad shoulders, strong hands, and a fantastically big … heart. (I mean, it’s massive. And generous. And it pumps so hard … um. Sorry. Lost my place.) Being a good father means everything to him, but he’s keeping me at a distance because he thinks I deserve someone better — a man who can give me more time, more attention, more of himself…“
- Juked by ME Carter <— JUST RELEASED! SOCCER STAR & A SINGLE MOM TO AN INFANT ALERT! “After a tragic accident spins her world on its axis, she finds herself as a single mother, raising a newborn nephew she never knew she had. Between parenthood, her full-time job, and dealing with the suffocating grief of losing her sister, every day is a struggle. When they begin to cross paths unexpectedly and often, an unlikely friendship starts to evolve…“
Trudy: This story was amazing. Tugged at ALL of my heartstrings. M.E. Carter delivered! <3 Loved!

R. Renee: Full Tilt by Emma Scott. I’m totally and utterly wrecked right now. I think she may have outdone herself this time. I just posted my review on GR. I’m tough on her because of my love for RUSH. I’ve given a couple of her books 4 stars when they’ve stayed with me enough to make me think they should have been 5. But this one…wow.
OMG Maryse. LOVED. Ooh and Maryse, it needs to go on your “what to read after Me Before You” list. I can’t wait until it comes out. I want the paperback. The cover is so pretty and PERFECT for the book. Oh and I don’t think I’ve ever read a blurb that fit its book so perfectly. Especially that last part!
➜ CHECK OUT ALL the upcoming BOOK RELEASES here.
Thank you for posting about Bet On Me!!!
My pleasure Rachel!!! 😀 <3
Thank you so much for the mention!! And I have your ARC tonight or tomorrow (converting…converting…) if you want it!! <3 <3
YES YES YES!!!!! :D!!!!!!
Thank you SO much Emma!!!!! *happy wiggle*
I’m so jealous….I want it too!
Just to add on here…..all the proceeds from Hook&Ladder 69 go to the Burned Children Recovery Foundation.
I am totally intrigued by Luka. Oh and Chaos Walking. Love dystopian….1-clickity click!
Started Tabula Rasa and I’m just not sure what’s going on yet. Not that far into it though. But I’m a little anxious from it!
Bev, now YOU’RE adding to my tbr TOO? *sigh* Just can’t keep up.
The Sordid Promise is seriously messed up. It’s not captive dark, but totally mental psycho wtf stuff.
Tessa, how do you compare it to Captive so far? Is it as good? I loved Captive and I have this one on my TBR.
Loved The Sordid Promise and there are 2 sequels, not that it needed them but still 🙂 I think it’s much different from Captive if we’re talking Captive in the Dark IMO.
I finished Six and it was fantastic!!! Got out of my book slump with that one and now I might try Ricochet or Doomsday Love.
I haven’t read A Lover’s Lament yet but the author is on that reality show Coupled so I might give it a go 😉
Well, I WAS going to say yes to the BR for What Alice Forgot, but it looks like you’re going to be busy with Emma’s book. Fine. FINE. I’ll just go back to 1986 and wait on you for What Alice Forgot.
Yep, I’ll just sit here in my blankie fort and sip on my chocolate strawberry martini while you indulge in an Emma Scott book…no big deal…
*throws WAF peanut at Maryse*
*snirks and lifts martini*
Oooh Amy, let me know if you do decide to BR What Alice Forgot. I was sold on the After I Do comparison!
Will do, R!! The more the merrier!!! 😀
Oh did Maryse not keep up her end of a buddy read?
Hmm.
Er… what buddy read? I’ve done two in a row!! Ruh roh. Did I miss one?
No no!!! Let’s read What Alice Forgot. I don’t have Emma’s yet!!! 😀
Yeah, Sordid Promise isn’t anything like Captive. Captive was more Stockholm Syndrome that went uh, good? This one is more messes with the mind type dark. Both are good, but in terms of dark, I can’t compare them. They are too different.
One clicked Bet On Me and Full Tilt (Emma Scott!!!! No hesitation with that one).
I am loving the cover art on both of these books. So pretty.
But Im going to squirrel both of these….Im trying really hard to mix in some of my older tbr list with new release reads.
Makes me slightly more comfortable with my obssessive one-clicking. 😉
I probably won’t get any reading time till Sunday bc my weekend is packed- story of my life. But I can say that I got some entertainment of the movie variety tonight, Finding Dory, yay!! lol, it was really good! Totally up there with Finding Nemo! 😉
I just finished Bittersweet by Sarina Bowen. I love her and this one did not disappoint. I actually think it’s the best I’ve read by her. The writing was great, the story fun, steamy and kept my attention throughout. The secondary characters are interesting and I can’t wait to read book 2. Read it in one sitting.
Teri I just finished Bittersweet last night too. It was a bit of a slow srart for me but I agree it was really good.
I loved the h’s inner thoughts and all of her chef/food analogies….
‘His demanding mouth landed on mine and I folded like a first-timers soufflé’
‘Griffin needed a warning sign, like the kind they put over the pizza oven…Danger, hot!’
‘Whenever this man touched me, I always melted like a stick of butter in a warm saucepan’
A great slow build….and Sarina Bowen captured the warmth and love of Griffin’s family perfectly.
Lisa-the only thing weird about Bittersweet (and I may be wrong, I need to go back and re-read just to see if I’m crazy). I’m being vague so no spoilers. Did the timeline of Jude’s “experience” seem majorly off to you? It seemed to me like there was a huge editing issue.
I was the same. I felt like he must be young. When Griffins mum was talking about Jude to Griffin at the beginning, I pictured him as maybe college age.
But then I read the preview chapter for Judes book at the end and it sounded like he was much older. And hadnt he been ‘away’ for a few years??
Howdy. Been super busy! I am literally trying ot read three books at one time. UGH. Not good. I have 10% left in that monster of a book “Heat”. It gets soooooo dark that I had to leave it for a teensy bit, but then I couldn’t resist going back. Bipolar I guess. So I started the first in Gentry Boys series. That’s pretty good. Then Maryse posts Carry On by Rainbow Rowell, so…. I checked and my library had it available for Kindle loan, so I snatched that up. ARGH. Too much to read. Finish one already Michelle.
Currently reading…Juked. Needed a athletic hottie falling for a “mom” with a newborn kinda read. So far so good…
Really excited to see a new Emma Scott AND a new KA book coming up!!!!! Two of my favs!!! Woohoo!!!
FYI- King and Tyrant by TM Frazier are combined into 1 book for .99 cents on KOBO. Not my favorite book(s) but a good deal, especially compared to the Amazon price which is $3.99 a piece I think. Heads up, if anyone is interested 😉
After the mind messery that was Sordid Promise, I needed light. The ending, my head… So now I’m reading Hook Up by Bella Love-Wins. I just need happy.
MichelleS, let us know what you think of Carry On.
Just finished Clean Sweep. I liked it enough to read the next but didn’t love.
Maybe I wasn’t expecting it to be aliens but more uf/pnr type magic. Which there is but somehow didn’t blend too well for me. But I do want to read the second. They write great heroines.
That was my reaction to Clean Sweep Bev! I still have to read the second one. Not because I don’t want to, but because I plain forgot to buy it.
Sad day today. I’m going home with ice cream and cartoon.
Book wise leaning toward Dragon Bound or the 2nd in the Emma chase legal series though have not read the first.
Tessa, I loved Beast and the Inn I like magical houses.
Hey guys!! So I am finally reading Ricochet. Its good so far! I wanted a dark read and this one is just what I was looking for.
I loved the house and also the creepy lady upstairs. It is a great world, though I wanted less sci-fi
Playing with Monsters by Amelia Hutchins was just put up for pre-order.
Oooooh thank you Tessa!!! I just posted it. 😀
I just saw this article mentioned some where and had to go read it. I do like David Sedaris. It is about shopping in Japan with his sisters and husband. He makes me laugh.
https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2016/03/28/david-sedaris-shops-for-clothes-in-tokyo
Alright, Maryse…I promise not to tease you about skipping out on a What Alice Forgot buddy read. 😉 I’m so swamped with getting ready for my last two finals that I want to cry. And throw a tantrum. And say I don’t care about my grades. Needless to say, no reading for me this weekend.
*sigh* I just miss reading for fun right now. Like, REALLY miss it.
I was accepted into a hemodialysis internship program next quarter (yay!!) and all I have to take is a phlebotomy course. I’m too old for a course load like this last quarter. And it cuts into my reading time. *snort* Priorities.
Love and miss you guys!!!
P.S.
I have a horrible fear/phobia <--- definitely of anything... veins. IV's, blood tests, just seeing the vein through the skin? *thud* I don't mind needles. Just don't put it in my vein!!!! *snort*
Congratulations, Amy!!! That’s awesome.
Your already doing internships?
Congrats Amy !!!
Thanks Fabi and Bev!
It’s a program through the college where the dialysis clinic will train students with certain prerequisites accepted into the program for 8 weeks with the possibility of working for them at the end. At the very least, it’s great training and I can find out if I want to do that or continue on in school and find something else.
But I’m so excited to be working with patients!! Dialysis patients have it pretty rough, and I would LOVE to have a part in making things a little more bearable for them.
Amy I love that you’re in the medical field!!! To be able to help people as best you can, is a wonderful thing.
Congratulations Amy! I love your reasoning. I hope everything works out. Think of the finals as only two more, not ugh, two more. Hopefully that’ll make it easier for you to deal with it. 😀
Finished Jellicoe Road…what’s next…besides sleep. That comes first!
Congratulations Amy…and stick with it. It will be worth it in the end.
Tessa, I’ve decided to go with Sweep in Peace. Stay at the Inn a bit longer.
Popping in for a quick visit. Crazy at my house now. Son graduates tomorrow and family swooping in today to stay for a week!! UGH. Have a feeling I’m going to be sneaking off for some alone time reading. 😉
Amy, congrats on internship. Hemodialysis patients are complicated to say the least. Good luck!!
Finished Bittersweet and while I liked it, I found it slow and a little “flat.” Nothing too dramatic either in angst or emotions. Did make me hungry with all the cooking references. Think I need a no-brainer book this week.
Congrats to your son Cheryl. A major milestone.
Grey, what did you think of JR?
Cheryl, what a great time though. Are you ready for him to go off to college?
Bev, the title of the last book I read sums up my feelings. Bittersweet! 😉
Thank you all for the congrats and support!! 😀
Um… *whispers* I have a fear of needles, too. Not when they are being used on someone else, just when they are going in me, specifically my veins. It’s not the pain (I can take pain), it’s just knowing there is something foreign in my arm. Something sharp. Something that is poking me. *shudder*
And congrats to your son, Cheryl!! I can only imagine how fitting “bittersweet” is for what you’re going through. *hugs*
I squirreled away. But will go back soon as almost done with this new book. It is Duke of Sin by Elizabeth Hoyt, the newest in her Maiden Lane series. I’ve been reading them recently totally out of order, just by what story catches my interest. In this the hero has been the villain in past books. He is a bit deranged and very fun. I guess she based him a big off of Loki.
These are fun HR books. I like that not all her characters are aristocratic like in a lot of HR. The hero is a duke but the h is a housekeeper.
Amy, pretty much for me too. I hate the feeling of being pinned down. Though some ate better with the needle than others and I’m not found of pain. But mostly the having to sit there while basically pinned down.
This could really be inappropriate if you don’t back-read…
Lol.
LOL!!!!! Bev just admitted she is vanilla!! 😛
Omg. You of course would turn that, lol.
Though if not liking needles makes me vanilla. ….what does Amy like???
Her husband does have that knife…….
I’m rocky road. 😛
Oh, and Maryse and Bev (since you two hate needles like I do)…for phlebotomy next quarter, we will be practicing on each other. At every class.
FML.
Ugh. Amy. I can’t even imagine “practicing” on each other. I’d quit. LOL!!! Sorry…
But they don’t frown upon pre-class martinis, right?
Because if anything would make sticking needles into each other better it would be drunkenly sticking needles into each other.
Exactly. I knew I liked you for a reason, Bev.
Aw hell, I’m gonna have Kahlua in my travel mug when I go to those classes!
Because Bev’s reasoning. *snort*
Lol. Could you imagine if you went for a blood draw and it was Maryse all nice and happy. Holding a needle in her hand. And she’s all, It’s my first day and I’ve never done this on a person before. You’ll be my first one.
But seeeeeeee… no. ‘Cause I’d walk over to you… and I’d… faint. And now you’d be safe. 😛
Sherlock knows.
Sherlock knows? Lol.
Are you watching Sherlock, Maryse?
Only Sherlock knows. *snort* 😛
Lol.
That was perfect.
Amy, what?! No practice (non-real) arms?? That’s quite the hard core class.
Being a nurse, I have no problem sticking others with needles, but don’t come near me; hate it. Can’t even watch.
“And she’s all, It’s my first day and I’ve never done this on a person before. You’ll be my first one.” <——- What are you talking about?? That is EXACTLY what it's going to be like for me!!! And with my luck, I'll be the first one to pass out in the class…
Nope Cheryl, this teacher has done lost his mind. We're practicing on each other from the start. *cringes*
Just hope your partner has good veins. You too.
