I have two reviews coming up shortly (both contemporary romance!!), and now I have to find a new read for my weekend. Maybe one from this list? Although two oldie but goodies are calling me from my TBR lists.
Or I could delve into another psych thriller. Those always seem to keep me on edge (and turning the page until I hit the end). Is it weird that I like the “scary” as much as I love the romance? LOL!!! As long as it’s in book-form, I’m good. DEFINITELY a NO in real life. 😉

The reviewer gave it one star because they do not like cats to be dead. Awwwwww!!! SO sweet and I agree. I dunno that I’d 1-star a book for that, but I did get a kick out of that review. Reading the Signs: Gay Sports Romance
by Keira Andrews
Heyy, Ann Mayburn – Obsession and Lila Rose – Death came out today, so excited can’t wait to dig in.
I am LOVING The Silent Waters!
Any word on when Awaken(Brightest Kind of Darkness #5) by P.T. Michelle will be released?
If you find out, please let us know!!
According to her facebook page, she was aiming for 9/30 but it’s going slow and she doesn’t know exactly when. (She’s hopeing sometime in October.)t.
Okay, here’s a question. Who recommended to me Ice Planet Barbarians: A SciFi Alien Romance? I saw it in my wishlist and thought, recommendation for sure.
*thinks*
*frowns*
*thinks some more*
Yeah, I got nothin’. I’m in a funk (life-stuff funk…don’tcha hate those?) so I’m in a MOOD. As in, sat here and watched my bird preen for 30 minutes and couldn’t motivate myself to do anything else. THAT kind of funk. *sigh* What are you gonna do, right? 😉
But happy Friday to my lovely friends anyway!! We have books, alcohol, and each other here…that’s plenty to be thankful for right there! 😀
I love to watch birds preen. LOL!!!
Thank you Tessa!
Loved The Silent Waters. 5 stars!!
Tessa, you will love the Ice Planet Barbarian series. I have read every one and I stalk Amazon to see if there is a new book out all of the time! Book Candy for sure!!
Betrayal by Aleatha Romig is free!
I’m still thinking of Behind Closed Doors. That book really got to me. Scary to think that could happen. If you haven’t read BCD you should! Maryse even wrote a review about that creepy book!
Tessa, MichelleS.
Amy I know 2 guys who could help you out of that funk.
Yes I did!!! 😀 And yes it’s creepy. Made me claustrophobic.
For some reason Follow You Home is catching my attention. I havent read as good suspense since Gone Girl and The Girl on the Train.
Amy….this ones for you girl……

Lisa, did you grow those?
We are going into fall (Yippee) but you all into Spring, right?
I was watching video and all I could think about was Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover
https://www.vevo.com/watch/USUV71602267?isrc=USUV71602267&share_location=ingestion
I think Amy is rubbing off on me. This doesn’t usually happen to me. But, it was just vivid.
Can’t wait for The Goal and Transfer!
Yeah I’m looking forward to The Goal. Also to Christina Lauren’s Beautiful which comes out in October. Can’t wait for both of those. Otherwise I’m in a bit of a book slump.
I’ve come back from a fantastic holiday in England and Wales. Visiting some of those gorgeous stately homes inspired me to dig out some of my old fav HRs. I re-read Mary Balogh’s Slightly Dangerous and really loved it. I’d forgotten what a lovely story it is. The icy Duke who falls for sunny, klutzy Christine, the type of woman whom he never expected to even like, much less fall in love with. But she melts his heart ….. sigh…..
I re-read Georgette Heyer’s The Quiet Gentleman, too. Was in the mood for Heyer! Discovered The Quiet Gentleman wasn’t one of my favs. St Erth and Drusilla are very sweet together, but there was too much focus on the mystery and the murder attempts for me – I knew whodunnit, and I’m not really into whodunnits anyway. So, I’ll just put that one back on the shelf…
I’ve tried a couple of the newer CRs e.g. My Lucky Days and For The Love of English. But I’m hemming and hawing – neither have really gripped me in the samples I read. I guess I’ll just have to wait for the new ones I mentioned above. Maybe dust off another old Heyer or two in the meantime 🙂
Welcome home Jan. I love thst you matched/themed your reading to your vacation!
Bev…supposedly we are in Spring here but it hasn’t stopped raining and we’ve even had flooding.
Id love to say I grew those gorgeous blooms but they came from the market.
Still wading through my book club book…The Muse. It reminds me of Water for Chocolate or Isabel Allende’s House of Spirits.
Looking forward to The Goal and a good sports CR.
Yeah Lisa. While I was in England it was unusually mild for their autumn, quite warm even, and we saw very little rain. But back here in Australia it’s been cold and rainy pretty much the whole time apparently. I expected it to be the other way around LOL!
London, and England in general, are just so soaked in history that I couldn’t resist getting into some HRs! Really got me in the mood. I absolutely fell in love with the place, particularly London. I’ll be going back for sure.
I remember reading Like Water For Chocolate and House of The Spirits, years ago. What did we call that style? Magic realism? At the time, I loved them. I think I read Gabriel Garcia Marquez’ Love In The Time Of Cholera around that time too, and really loved that as well. And these days I’m simply hooked on sweet, emotional romances! LOL.
You guys! Finished The Silent Waters last night! So freaking great! Loved it!
Jan, I hope you had a wonderful time. I’d love to visit England. Like Lisa I like the themed reading.
Have you ever read 84, Charing Cross Road? Charming. If I remember correctly there is a part when she says something about how if she ever visits England a part of her will expect it to still be the England of her books, like Austen. Lol. I feel the same way.
It’s YA but I’d say Jandy Nelson flirts with magical realism in her books. Like Water for Chocolate is a book Lennon sister reads in the Sky is Everwhere.
Also, Sarah Addison Allen, I really liked her Garden Spells.
Ok, Lisa and Jan got me thinking.
Prince Edward Island is a place I’d love to visit and it’s because of L M. Montgomery and Kevin Sullivan as I fell in love with the adaptation first.
Nora Roberts wrote a book that really made me want to visit Wyoming for awhile.
I think I’d like to see a bit more magical realism in romance.
Not, magical realism but I loved how the house in A Discovery of Witches and then the Apple tree in Garden Spells.
OMG, Insider by Olivia Cunning is only 99 cents right now! I just grabbed it. 😀
It makes me doubly happy because the book I just finished, Rock Your Heart Out by Crystal Caswell. It was cute, but didn’t feel like a rockstar book. Cunning hasn’t disappointed me yet in that aspect.
Amy, hope your “life-stuff funk” is over. *big hug*
Can’t wait for The Goal and Transfer. No idea what I’m reading next. Maybe Jean’s rec or maybe I’ll start Retrieval, since only a few days until book 2. Going to take a look at my tbr and maybe organize my kindle and GR books. Not much time to read today because going to friends for dinner and I’m making a carrot cake.
Thanks Tessa! I grabbed that one too!
Jean, I just started reading The Silent Waters and one of the characters name is Cheryl!! OMG, I hope she doesn’t turn out to be a b!tch!!
Of Royal Descent (The Doyle Hawthorne Series Book 1) by Ember Shane is free today.
Apple iBooks has some freebies at the moment – ‘first of a series’ limited time offer. Includes the first Poldark book, A Discovery of Witches, Beautiful Bastard, Rock Addiction, Better When He’s Bad, The Autumn Bride and quite a few others. Get ’em while they’re free, ladies. (Maybe only available in Australia??)
Bev, I haven’t read 84 Charing Cross Road, but England really, really is like an Austen book. Yeah, it’s very multi-cultural and full of modern stuff, but the Englishness of everything still shines through. The glorious architecture. The London parks we read about in Heyer’s books, with their mature English tress, and lots of squirrels! The wonderful countryside with its thatched cottages, its hedgerows, its drystone walls. You have to go!!
Just checked. It must be only in Australia.
Finished my ARC, now I’m in a quandry… I don’t know what to read.
I think I will go with Aleatha Romig’s Entrapment. I reread all 3 of the first in the series in June/July so I should be ok…right?
I am LOVING The Silent Waters. So beautiful, so painful, so many if only’s, what ifs… laughing, crying. *sigh*
Just finished The Silent Waters. A 5 star read! Awww, the feels. Thanks for the great rec Jean!!!
Grey, I highly recommend Entrapment. The ending…blew my head clean off my flippin skull, and I’m not sure how I’m going to wait until January for the final installment. I also just finished Author Anonymous (man, that one tore me up), Ruin (gahhhhh, the feelz), and now I’m FINALLY reading Captive in the Dark series. What is wrong with me that I loooooooooove these dark, horrible men that are so damaged, but somehow seem to be redeemable!!
I LOVED the Captive series and felt the same way, what is wrong with me??? Lol
OMG I love it, Lisa!!! Thank you for the pretty picture and the awesome comment to go with it. 😀
And Fabi, what’s so wrong with me rubbing off on you?? Er…on second thought, don’t answer that. 😛
*choke* *sputter* *gasp*
Amyyyy!
bahahaha
You need to write a book. An erotic comedy. 😉
Good lord…if I tried to write anything remotely like that, y’all would have second-hand embarrassment for me!
But thank you. 😉 *curtsies*
My favorite books lately have been with characters that don’t have a filter and seem to blurt inappropriate things at the most inconvenient times. It just tickles me and gives me the warm and fuzzies. Amy, I think you could easily develop a character like that. I’d read it!
All I would have to do is include some of the embarrassingly inappropriate things I’ve said in the past, LOL!
Seriously though, some of them still make me cringe. 😐
