Happy new release day and OMG the bargains section nearly killed me in awesomeness!! Of course, there are plenty of great new releases to highlight, but don’t skip the “oldies but goodies” section because there are some MUCH-LOVED recent releases on it that are at rock bottom prices.
<— First… YAY US!!! The Paper Swan is live today, along with many other “Yay me!!” books. 😀 But that one to the left is the one I’m currently reading and with a blurb like that? YES PLEASE!!! What else is making my one-clicker twitchy? Shade (So many awesome, ecstatic reviews that I don’t know what to do… do I read the whole series first? I think it’s the latest and last one in the series, so I don’t want to skip ahead…) Dare to Rock (her ex is a famous rock star, and she’s invited backstage… and then!!! There’s a stalker fan after her…), Diving Into Him (she’s the rock star, and she’s hit rock bottom, so trying to start over…), Becoming Rain (another super-bargain recent release by an AWESOME author), The Goodbye Man (listed as thriller horror and one of our own is reading it as we speak and says it is SUPER DARK!!!) and… Trapped (Shay Savage!! But I have to read #1, first)…
…and don’t forget to check out the pre-orders below. Four that I know are gonna make everyone squee hard: Jamie McGuire’s Shep and America novella, a special Tijan treat is coming up (side-eyes Tessa), J.A. Redmerski is releasing and super-angsty one, and Renee Carlino’s (he sees his ex-love-of his life on the subway after years… as the train is pulling away).
P.S. Let me know if I’m missing any or if you loved any (from this list or elsewhere).

Holy crap! I knew today was gonna be a great day for releases and was so happy to see my preordered copies of The Paper Swan and Indulge in my Kindle today! Starting Paper Swan tonight!!!!
Magic Shifts by Ilona Andrews! I was anticipating that one even more than the Sherrilyn Kenyon one!
I don’t think the book by Maya Banks is available yet. Amazon shows it releases Dec 1, 2015.
Yeah, thank you Maryse!
Paper Swans does sound so good. I like Indulge too. Also, I can’t resist a sports romance and Loved by the Linebacker, which is a continuation of the novella in the Score One for Love boxed set, which is 10 sports-theme novellas for only 0.99!! 🙂
Just finished Body Check, an older book, by Elle Kennedy. Almost as good as her Off-Campus series and a plus for me- the H is a hockey star!!
Cheryl, I was wondering about Body Check….love me a hockey player! Adding it to my TBR!
I’m getting better…I only clicked three from up there! Indulge, Over the Fence and Seduced in Secret. Buuuuuut we’re not going to talk about the fact that I was only going off the blurbs that were highlighted and that I still have to look up the blurbs for all of the other ones. 😉
I’m at 13% of Paper Swan, and I am getting a well-needed lesson in patience. I’ve gone in completely blind and am avoiding any of the reviews which might give me a hint as to what’s happening, even though I really, REALLY want to know! And the writing…saying it’s phenomenal doesn’t seem to be enough but will have to do with my limited ability to articulate. How she can take something as simple as fish and turn it into Fish in a sadly humorous way…yeah, I’m in love with her writing right now.
A fellow “ALPHA” (Another Life Phase Happily Achieved) Book Club friend advised that there a series that I should look into by K.A. Tucker – Burying Water Series” and “Becoming Rain” is on sale at $1.99 but this may be old news to rest of you…….. The blur sounds interesting but sometime those can lead you astray……Any feedback on this series ? Good / Bad / Just Alright……….
Okay thank you Stephanie!! I’ll take it out. 😀
Amy, sounds promising regarding Paper Swan. I’m going in completely blind when I start tonight too! Love this author!
Ok, Jean. How was WiR?
Can’t leave a girl hanging. 😛
Sorry bev! I LOVED it! I want to continue the series but gotta save some money and not quite sure of the order…..those books are pricey! Lol! Just need a change of pace and going with Paper Swan.
I one clicked Paper Swan and might need to go ahead and get Indulge while I’m at it. I hadn’t heard of the Summer in the Hamptons series but added the first one, Summer Dreaming, to my TBR.
Thanks for the rec on Body Check – I loved the blurb and really liked Elle Kennedy’s recent books so I’m going to check it out.
Few more on sale :
Absolution by Amanda Dick – a real emotional read, box of tissues will be needed.
Bigger than Sky by Harper Bently, I remember loving this one at the time.
47 Things by Lilliana Anderson
Indulgence by Georgia Gates
Really curious about The Goodbye Man, just wondering if anyone can PM me with some of the hard limits this book covers? Ie. killing, rape, self harm etc.
wondering that too, Ela.
I’ve read some of the reviews and ALL warn the warnings and give NOTHING away. *lips tremble* I’m scured
3rd Hangman book by Tillie Cole in 6 days!!!!!!
Wow! So many great books! Thank you Maryse!
Seduced in Silence sounds good! When I get home I need to check this list again.
This is below the blurb on GR for The Goodbye Man:
**Graphic content warning including detailed depiction of brutal, bloody acts. Physical and emotional abuse is also apparent throughout this book with graphic sex scenes, both consensual and non-sensual.
I *lightly* skimmed some of the reviews on GR (sometimes they are a little more candid than Amazon reviews), and they pretty much all say the same thing…extremely dark, not for the faint of heart and will make you question your beliefs of right and wrong. Ummmm, anyone wanna buddy read it with me later this week? ‘Cause I’m frighteningly intrigued…
Anne, how’s it going with T&D? 😀
Amy, I saw that too and am intrigued as well but I NEED more info! I read Empathy with NO warnings and I couldn’t sleep and kept thinking of that psycho….grrrrrrrrrrrrr. I loved the book but when I tired to read Desolate, forget it, I couldn’t!
I clicked on the sample for Goodbye Man and the disclaimer gives a lot. Abuse, rape, physical torture, emotional abuse, murder, strong language, sexual degradation, humiliation, unconventional sexual practices and detailed descriptions of several mental disorders.
Okay… *avoids* One of my triggers was on that list.
Thanks Lauren I didn’t know that the 3rd one was coming out! Yippie I am excited. I just finished Carter Reed today and wasn’t sure where to go next. Wasn’t feeling Carter Reed 2 so I was happy it was Tuesday. And The Paper Swan won out. I went in Blind and am at 33% Holy Schnyckies 🙂 Can’t wait to see what everyone else thinks. I am so lost right now on where this is going to go.
Ela. lol Same here with Desolate. I can’t handle those with mental disorders being harmed. Empathy I could handle, no big, but Desolate, nope, for that reason.
Yep Tessa!!!!!!!!!!!!! And it looks like Goodbye Man may have some of that brand of crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!
*grins* Yep. Sounds like an Amy book. I’ll stick to my normal twisted books. Also, it said, not a romance. It’s about saying goodbye.
What does it say about me that my gut and chest clenches about all that and yet I still want to read it just to see how it would mess with me… 😕
Ha Tessa! I was typing my post when you said it was an “Amy book”…you do know me, don’tcha? 😉
Jean!!! You LOVED it. Whoot.
Murder of Crows is next. Hopefully they go on sale closer to the next release date.
IF I wasn’t helping Tessa out (GO FCH!!) I’d point out to a certain some one ( yay high, likes to twirl) how so many of her book buddies ( Michelle, MichelleS, Tessa, Fabi, Jean, Laura, Niki (and even Amy!) and I) have loved/liked/enjoyed Written in Red.
Whew. *wipes brow*
That was a long sentence.
Hey, with some of these dark reads instead of turning into some sort of romance, would you ever like the heroine to go all Kill Bill on his a$$?
Lol bev! Wonder who you are talking about with WiR……haha! Love that long sentence! Maryse, bev is talking to you!
I don’t know Amy, I like dark, but it’s not even a romance and it’s about saying goodbye….ugh!
IF YOU WANT DARK, READ CAPTIVE IN THE DARK!!!! Right ladies?!?!?!?!
Amy… I’m game right after Paper Swan if you are…
LOL!! Yay high,,,, likes to twirl
*snort* OH EM GEE THAT WAS HILARIOUS!!!!!
Bev, that was hysterical! Great description of our girl!
Lol.
Amy it says ch for the dark one. One loved it but said hard not to vomit. I saw one thing mentioned that I, well a couple, if going in as horror you may be ok with. Not sure but sounds like a kink one has. Not sure if spoiler to say that’s what one does sexually?
It’s funny how bev is talking all in code all of the sudden with this dark book description.
Tee hee!
All covert-like…
Yay Maryse!! I’ve got a buddy to read it with! Or should I say yay-high Maryse. 😛 Hey, I have a whole inch on you so *pblttt*!! Now if you could just stand…right…*pulls Maryse over*…there. Jean is about to throw some CITD peanuts at me… *ducks behind Maryse*
Bev, it sounds like it’s going to be pretty dark in a lot of ways but as long as I know it ahead of time then I’m good. 😉 And after the CH in King *side-eyes MichelleS* I should be able to handle this one. *snort* I hope.
Lol, trying not to give any thing away. But it’s gross!
hahahah
Oh, and I saw a still shot from the movie Human Centipede not long ago. *cringes* I can handle reading just about anything after seeing that. 😕
To answer the question about Shade ( The Last Riders Book 6), you should read all the other books in the series first. There is another book about him before book 6. They are all awesome. A little bit different than your typical biker book.
OMG I can’t handle that movie. It actually made me throw up. Full on, physically sick…
I haven’t even bothered with #2… *shudders*
A CH, well that decides it for me. Nope, not going to read it until it is complete…maybe not even then. Want to hear more about it first. Another one that reminds me of The Tied Man.
Guess it’s The Paper Swan next for me…unless I squirrel.
I guess I clucked when I should have clicked and posted this on the wrong thread. So here is the repeat:
I had Trapped on pre-order but it’s Kick, Push that just sent me flying over to Amazon. Everything from the title to the cover to the blurb is screaming my name. I can’t wait to read this one!
clucking is fun. LOL!!!!
Oh whoa. I just revived an old post. LOL!! *snort* I need more sleep. Or coffee.
*throws the CITD peanut at Amy* Nope! You have a classic to read first.
STILL reading City of Heavenly Fire. You know how odd it is to be reading a book three days in a row? And! I’m not even half way done. It’s not that it’s bad, but I’ve not been able to read it.
Okay… just an update (I’ve been gone readin’ my stories) tee hee!!!
But so far? Paper Swans is OMG FREAKING AWESOME. The writing and the story YES!!!!! YES YES YES FOR ME!!!!
And I’m WAY early in and was IN right from the first page, and at 14% I was reading happily and then OMG!!!! Jaw dropped. Good times.
I LOVE READING!
Cheryl you won’t be able to squirrel from Paper Swan…
it’s too darn good.
My name is a Grey and I’m a closet e-book hoarder… *Hi Grey….* sorry, I was filling in for you guys there.
I am so broke at the moment… and I want to one-click a couple of these SOOOO badly… I already ordered The Paper Swans… so I am jumping in blind with that too…
I really want in on The Goodbye Man and Seduced In Secret… why can’t I just inherit a large amount of money to pay for my habit… I’m not hurting anyone but my kindle with the sheer number of books I have… honest!
Well hello Paper Swan then *clicky click*
…still my big excitement today is Magic Shifts!!!!! This is one of my favorite UF series of ALL TIME! Anyone looking for a guaranteed excellent read, here ya go!
Oh and update for anyone interested, Punching and Kissing was fun, the sex scenes were steamy and had a cool twist on the fighter plot. It didn’t develop the characters enough in my mind though so I didn’t connect at all despite it being a nice story that kept my attention…went into the average bin for me.
Oh dear God, I started The Paper Swan and the first paragraph has me. Thanks Maryse!!
And with that Cheryl, you have effectively ended my mindless internet-ing tonight… *is internet-ing a word, if not, it totally should be!*
I am going to crawl in with The Paper Swan… see you all soon!
Maryse, right?!? I know *exactly* what you are talking about 14%…I had to read it twice because that was a *GASP* moment that I thought for sure I had read wrong!
Seriously ladies, if you are wavering on Paper Swan…STOP!! Just pick it up and start reading it. I’m going to be up until the early hours of the morning finishing this one. It’s. Just. That. Great.
Well now I’m curious, can I look at the first paragraph and not jump in? Must resist the squirrel!
Oh no…
Silly Grey…you know you can borrow books from me! The Goodbye Man is lendable (is that a word?) so let me know. You might have to wait a couple of days until I finish it though. 😉
Does that mean you’re joining us, Michelle???
Ummm *chewing nails and sweating a little* while trying to avoid opening the book again…
Oh look I distracted myself finding some freebies for y’all:
Frenched by Melanie Harlow
The Decimation of Mae by DH Sidebottom
Winter by Frankie Rose
Highland Wolf Clan Book 1 by AK Michaels
Erased by Elle Christensen
If My Heart Could See You by Sherry Ewing
Wherever You Will Go by Stephanie Smith
Embers by Karen Ann Hopkins
Cade by Patricia D Eddy
Long Night Moon by SM Reine
Flirting with Destiny by Eve Carter
Love So Hot by Marquita Valentine
Blood Money by Ali Parker
Life’s What You Make It by Theresa Troutman
Cheryl love me some Elle Kennedy! Great to know Body Check is good! Oh yes a hockey player is always welcome lol
Amy Tristan and Danika is going great! Starting book 2 tonight. I can already feel the angst coming and I can’t wait for more!
Tessa thanks for that! I don’t think The Goodbye Man is for me either :/
Jean yes! If you like dark books you need to read Captive in the Dark! Soo good and twisted! Love it lol
Fabi Kick, Push is right up my alley too! I already one clicked it and can’t wait to read it! Let me know what you think 🙂
Paper Swans sounds so good! But I need to finish the Tristan and Danika series first. I need to focus!
Michelle you rock!!! *big hugs*
Tristan and Danika are worth it. Second book broke me. It really did; it was that good.
Thank you Michelle. I’ve been wanting to read Decimation of Mae. It looks interesting.
I bought Paper swans. All this love, I had to. However, still… *pounds head on the desk* reading *pounds again* City of Heavenly Fire. *Slams her head one last time*
Ok so I got:
Igniting Ash- M.A. Stacie
Kick, Push- Jay McLean
Over the Fence- Melanie Moreland
The Paper Swan- Leylah Attar
Tessa the end of book 1 was so sad!! I wasn’t expecting that!
I know! That was, but keep going. Book two will tear your heart into pieces.
Anne, I have the stuffed manatee ready and waiting for you while you read books 2 and 3. And we’re all here for hugs and snuggles when you need ’em…and you WILL need ’em. 😉 Gah, I love that series!!!
Ohhh Tessaaaaaaa… *holds Paper Swan out and wiggles it*
At 24% in the Paper Swan. Just had a hmm moment between book and blurb.
Amy, I understand what you meant about having patience. It’s well-written but has been slow to evolve, until now.
Anne, yep it’s sad, it’s full of angst and it rips your heart out and then v-e-r-y slowly puts it back together again. So loved Tristan and Danika!!
I know but Amy…
*holds City of Heavenly Fire out to wiggle it*
*feels the weight of the book working against her*
*falls to the floor, sustaining only minor injuries. The book is fine*
Hi….me again. Just finished The Paper Swan…wow. That’s really all I can say…wow.
Amy… you can lend those? I am more than interested!
*Confession time* did you know, I have never read Tristan & Danica… however, I have read Captive in the Dark… so, I’m still allowed here…right?
Of course you can. Just go and buy Bad Things. It’s not dark, but so angsty, words can’t describe.
Or borrow it, if you can. 🙂
It should be. Number three is. I really got to get them all on Kindle. I only have three on Kindle. No idea where one and two are. :/
Psst, Grey, I’ve read Tristan & Danika, but haven’t read Captive in the Dark. Would really, really, really recommend you read T & D!!! 😉
Captive in the dark!!! ALL time fave book and tortured hero and just a great storyline when it all came together in the end. Well written, super dark and erotic, pretty perfect for me
I’m also eying Kick, push, her other series looks good too
Diane M, did you read all 3 books in Captive in The Dark series?
Here Amy, my patient told me this was too dark for her to finish… Not too expensive either
https://www.amazon.com/Dark-Lure-Loreth-Anne-White-ebook/dp/B00PG8UCGS/ref=sr_1_1?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1438783648&sr=1-1&keywords=The+dark+lure
You have to read all three books in the Captive in the Dark series! The last book is my favorite, Epilogue, written in Caleb’s POV!!!
Thanks Jean, wasn’t sure!!! 🙂
Cheryl- yes! Missed a few nights of sleep
Sorry out of left field here but Vanguard by CJ Markusfeld was soooooooo good. It is the closest book to the vibe of The Bronze Horseman that I’ve encountered. But more modern day. The feels and the read is quite different. Don’t want to say much more but it is a book that will definitely stick with me forever. On to Paper Swan next! Excited!!! Hope it’s good and I can fit it in because need to read Girl on the Train too by book club on the 16th! Not sure which to do first…
Marina, I loved Vanguard too and I’ve never read Bronze Horseman yet. Some people around here squirreled or dnf….pfft!
AH Fiddlesticks! I HAVE to read all SIX books in that biker series before I can read Shade? I’ll think about it….
I have book ADD right now. I squirreled and bought Paper Swans mostly because I was afraid the pre-order price of 99 cents would go up (reactionary due to Outlander debacle – now I have “miss out-itis”).
I need to finish Blood Destiny, then bump Warprize back to TBR status.
This is like a crazy game – I am maneuvering all my pieces (books) all over the place. But from the sounds of it, so are the rest of you!
Do you ladies ever think there are too many 4 & 5 star reviews? Well maybe just the five?
I used to get super excited when I saw 5 stars or best book I’ve read …..and now not so much. To be clear beyond those I trust. Like if Maryse gets excited about a book I jump right in, buy it, or even just keep it on my radar and so happy when a sale happens. Or if Michelle said “Bev five star historical” I’d get very excited.
I was just thinking on this because reading a book a bit at a time and really like it. I have books due back which is why I’m not reading it straight though, but chapter or so at a time until the others are done. It reminds me a bit of Heyer, which makes me happy. Less than half way through but right now maybe 3/3.5 for me. But so good. Yet, if I say that I feel like it would be overlooked because not gushing, you know?
And saying this I will say that I have read book reviews I thought maybe too critical, lol. Sometimes I love a book for just being a fun story and right time right mood, not for its dazzling style or research. *shrug*
I don’t know, its me rambling.
I am surprised how many people haven’t read Bronze Horseman. One of my all time favorites. Right after Outlander, probably. I know, I know… it feels like it would be crazy heavy (WWII in Leningrad) and long (3 books)… and it is… but it is sooooo worth it. An amazing love story. One of THE best, IMHO. It is so satisfying because the three books span their lifetime, so you get their ENTIRE story. How often do we get that? This is like book one plus the longest epilogue ever!!!
Bev – I don’t trust the star system on amazon anymore – far too many 4 and 5 star reviews to be honest. And you know what’s a real shame? When a well known author releases a new book (Evanovich, JR Ward, LK Hamilton, etc), the “fans” of that series SLAM the new book and give it one and 2 star reviews because they say they are disappointed. They have that right, but then they turn around and give some mediocre piece of work 5 stars? I don’t get THAT.
Hi Jean, you should definitely read Bronze Horseman!!!!!!! Esp. if you loved Vanguard! Really, truly, you will not regret it. All 3 are great but you could just read the 1st. Vanguard actually reminded me of book 2 of Bronze Horseman. It would make a great winter read. And, MichelleS I’m so glad you clarified re. Shade. I had meant to ask if it could be read as a standalone… Wow, 6 books first… Umm…
Jean!!! @ 1% on my break and I’m sooo hooked. I love these young life struggle stories.
Jean, We should pick some random date to read The Bronze Horseman. Like, the second weekend in Oct or the 10th of Dec.
MichelleS, I mostly read the three star reviews on Amazon. Figure middle ground. And use it for key words or phrases. I’m a little on the flip side, when the fans unequivocally love a book just because they are a fan.
On review blogs I’m trying to pay more attention to what reviewer likes what books to find the ones that more align with my taste.
This is going to sound cynical but there is one I really like to read but through the years they have become very friendly with authors. And so it’s hard for me to read reviews on those ones cause how do you review someone that is a friend or writes for you, or you do beta or cover work for them. And I, knowing that, wouldn’t feel comfortable leaving a comment then that the book didn’t work for me.
Seriously I have gone back to some of the scenes in Bronze Horseman just to see and they still hold up! If I was starting I would read it this fall or winter with warm coffee or tea curled up in a comfy chair. I may have to do a reread! A re-reread. I agree MichelleS about reading them all to get the whole, full story and the full experiences and closure. Dying for it to become a series. I periodically check her site… it would be PHENOMENAL. Like Outlander…
Oh Em Gee. The Paper Swan is simply magnificent!
Yay Fabi! It was definitely a good squirrel move on our part!
Thanks Marina, BH would be a good winter read! So bev, should we pick a date and try to get as many people on board for a BR? I like just picking a random date! Lol!
I was interested in Shade too but no time to fit in all those books!
I think you can never really go by the star ratings on these books. Some people automatically give 5 stars especially if they were provided an ARC.
Oh The Bronze Horseman. Such a beautiful story. If you guys do a re-read or first read I am in! 😀 I thought they were going to make a movie? But a TV series would be so much better!
30% on Rock Bottom and loving it! These 2 seriously love each other but in a kinda destructive way, don’t you think? I am loving all the angst!
I have only read Captive in the Dark but not the other 2. If you guys are going to read it let me know so I can join the fun lol
After Tristan and Danika I think I am going to read Over the Fence. It sounds like a fun, light read. Which I think I’ll need after finishing this series.
Bev what great HR have you read lately? I recently got The Rogue and I by Eva Devon but I know there’s a new Grace Burrowes that came out this week.
I do agree about the 4-5 star reviews. TBH I rely more on Maryse’s reviews and the opinion from you guys. I trust you 100% even if our tastes are different.
Bev I totally agree on reading 3 star reviews. 1-2 stars prob didn’t even finish or are haters, 3 gave it a chance and liked it, just had some issues with it that may be in line with what you avoid or may be no big deal for you.
Marina, I dig your style. Some books are definitely fall/winter reads.
Anne, its The Parfit Knight by Stella Riley.
Yes, Jean. It sounds like it should in colder days and have time to set our book scene, lol.
So…….who is in for a .BR of The Bronze Horseman?
DianeM, yes. Its funny when people hate something and I’m all, yes please. Are you in the medical field?
Sigh, I agree. I trust you all’s recommendations more than any other.
So I inhaled The Paper Swan last night…what’s on tap for today LOL! I should really probably read one of the huge stack I’ve got on my kindle… LOL! I do have Written in Red…and Rush… *preparing for the avalanche of peanuts*
Jean? another break, @3%, and I’m crying…a little warning next time? lol
Just saw this on goodreads… https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/86673.Best_Books_of_2015
Who has read what on this list? I’ve read several; The Deal, The Mistake, Manwhore, The Friend Zone, Never Never (Parts 1 and 2), Ugly Love, Beautiful Secret and Beautiful Beloved, Burned was a DNF for me, The Shadows, Sloth and Broken Juliet from this list.
I figured, this may help me narrow down my list of my TBR list a little, if some of “our girls” chimed in on what they loved from 2015 so far, haha!
Written in Red, Grey. Written in Red.
Ugh I hate Dean!!
Grey you need to read Rush! Its one of my faves from 2015 😀 I’ve also loved the Elements of Chemistry books by Penny Reid, The Lessons, Jezebel, Kyland, Pucked, Where One Goes, Revved, Hero, King of Hearts, Hearts on Fire.
Great list Grey – I’ve read 13 from the top 100. I need to check out the rest!
I’m at 21% of Paper Swan. I can’t stop reading it even though it is a bit out of my comfort zone. And, I keep trying to guess where it is going and I’m pretty sure everything idea I think up will be wrong!
Oh and Darker Water!
I’m at 29% in paper Swan, getting some new helpful info
Yes Bev, I’m a physical therapist but I also do a lot of medical writing and peer reviewing
Anne! You HAAAVE to read Captive book2!! I’ll read it again with u
Kulti is REALLY great too.
So much to catch up on here! I missed out on some great chats this morning. It might take me a bit to catch up and reply to everything. *snort* As if y’all are just waiting with bated breath for my replies. 😛
The Paper Swan…*sigh* Finished it and loved it. LOVED it. It ended on a different tone from where it started, but for me it worked. I know I keep going on about her writing but something about it just makes it so easy to slip into the story, no adjusting or adapting to it necessary. Kind of like slipping into a warm bubble bath with a glass of wine. Weird analogy? Whatever…it’s the best I’ve got. 😉
That’s right, Diane, I remember you mentioned that in regards to MichelleS shoulder.
Interesting a few in medical fields and a few in ed fields.
Grey, the T&D series is lendable. Just let me know and then send me your email on GR. That’s all I need to loan it to you.
Oh, I see Diane…you hear about something crazy dark and automatically think I would like it? What would give you that idea? *snicker* That blurb sounds kind of familiar, but I don’t think I have it yet. I’ll have to remedy that…thanks!!
I was one of the ones who didn’t finish Vanguard *sticks tongue out at Jean* and I have the Bronze Horseman, but both of them just seem like the kind where I would have to be in a certain mood to read them. Ya know, like in the mood for something “weighty” and profound as opposed to something emotionally taxing…which I’m currently in the mood for.
“Sometimes I love a book for just being a fun story and right time right mood, not for its dazzling style or research.” <—— Exactly, Bev. 😉
Anne, I so wish I was reading T&D for the first time again. *sighs and pictures hearts floating up from T&D books*
As to trusting Amazon reviews and different opinions and different tastes…I'll sound like a broken record but I really love that everyone can be honest here without worrying about being attacked or ganged up on. There is such a vast array of tastes here which sometimes overlap and other times don't, but no matter what everyone is respectful. Okay, hopping off the soap box now. 😉 Love y'all.
I need an intervention. I think I figured out how to work Goodreads… *no judgements please LOL!*
My personal Want to Read shelf now holds 52 books… *bangs head against the wall* Some I actually have…most I do not…
Amy, you’re so sweet, (when you’re not making me spank you with a wooden spoon) I *blush* actually have the Tristan and Danika books… just haven’t read them… they may be higher up on the list now haha!
Grey, I assume that was you I just frender on GR!
Amy, you should read Kick Push with me and Fabi……sooo good!
T&D series….best ever! Read it 3 times!
*friended*…..what the hell is frender???
LOL, Yes Jean, that was me… Um… frender, yeah I got nothing 😉 Still learning the Goodreads thing & I like friends haha! So if you know how to use this better than me, please add me 🙂
Maybe I should use one of those randomizer things and have it pick my next read for me. I feel so indecisive today!
Kick Push Grey!!!!!
Jean, I’m probably going to read it after Goodbye Man…I have a feeling I’m going to need something like that after GM!
I got a friend request too.
Only 52 books? 🙂 There is a convenient button for you that you hit add my Amazon books. Unfortunately, any unread or no rating, you have to add yourself.
I’ve read 14 from the first 100 of that list. I’m not going to say which I haven’t because I’ll get pelted by peanuts. Two I’ll read when they are released. How odd is that? They are favorites but aren’t even released yet?
Frender is the robot on Futurama.
Jean, pick a date.
So, I had shuffle on. I song I love came on. Its from a movie that I watched the scene, literally, like 20x before having to return. And this was vhs so a lot of rewind. But it’s a great scene and love the song, that version better than ipod on cause stripped down. But it’s one of the songs I’m embarrassed to admit I like. I’ll share mine if you share yours. The song you’d turn down or not want to be caught singing to. Link if you feel sassy.:-P
Bender!! Frender lol, I love adult cartoons
Bev- Every song by Flo Rida (I love them all)
I’ll be honest. There’s not a song I’m ashamed to sing. I’ll sing anything from One Direction, Katy Perry to Avenged Sevenfold and 30 Seconds to Mars, to Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserable, and Habanera from Carmen, to oldies and even childrens music. What could be embaressing to sing?
Why is Flo Rida embarrassing to sing? I do that all the time. 😛
It’s not, right? I kinda felt like I should be embarrassed but I’m not
Lol Tessa! Of course you would know of a robot called Frender!
I gotta go look at that list and see what I’ve read.
Since we are all friends here, I’m not too embarrassed to tell you I love the song “Love a Rainy Night” by Eddie Rabbit (pathetic?) (some of you may be too young to even know it) ha! OK bev, give it up, what song?
Thx Grey for pointing out that Goodreads list! Out of Time is 8th. I had to take a break at 25%. The changing timeframes every chapter was hard for me. And my bad memory… I just felt like I needed something with a strong pull. But I’ll go back! Esp. if someone here strongly recommends? Also, surprised Jezebel, Amber to Ashes and Ground Rules aren’t on there. Maybe the subject matter for the last two is too scandalous for the mainstream on Goodreads?
Its a really great scene. He is in love and singing to Lily Tomlin who is married. But he also gets around so all the others think it’s them. Yes, its a Keith Carradine song. Tessa love your attitude. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://m.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3DFj6bvtylW9I&ved=0CDUQtwIwCGoVChMIioiP8OaSxwIVx5mICh3oaAKK&usg=AFQjCNGgoEtO6meWLBIaCxpli0-j2bB9pQ
I’m with you Tessa, I’ll sing anything and everything…and do, often!
So my family just all left for the evening… what do I do now!??!
As for that GoodReads list…I was surprised King wasn’t on there.
Btw, Maryse, can we add that to the upcoming releases. Tyrant (book 2) by T.M. Frazier is slated for August 17, 2015.
Tyrant is up, Grey. In fact I added it to today’s list. 😀
Oh you guys! Just finished Rock Bottom and my poor heart! I hate Dean! Seriously! How can something so beautiful cause so much hurt? Starting Lovely Trigger now 🙂
Never heard that song before bev….sorry…
With regard to that list, I read 11 of the first 21 and 18 of 100. I have to wonder how accurate this list is….especially since it contains books which haven’t been released yet! And yeah, no Jezebel or Ground Rules?!?! Those books rocked!
Tessa, you’re right, there should be no embarrassment with songs or singing!
Tessa, years ago Tim Mcgraw had hit song with Indian Outlaw. It was on country radio all the time. One day I’m waiting in line and it’s in my head and then I hear myself singing aloud.
“I’m an Indian outlaw
Half cherokee and choctaw
My baby she’s a chippewa
She’s one of a kind”
I think how it went and yes i was embarrassed lol.
Diane M we should totally BR the Captive in the Dark series! Amy are you up for it?
I also agree that you need to be in a certain mood to read books like The Bronze Horseman or Vanguard.
Jean came out in 75 & i guess won Oscar as best song. Before i was born so not sure how popular it was at time though didn’t last. Only heard it cause of watching the movie.
Embarrassing song moment for me: I’m singing along to the “new popular” song by Flo Rida, “whistle”… Had NO CLUE what it was really about. My teenaged son says, “mom… Seriously? You’re singing that?”… So I start to pay attention… OMG… Mortified. Singing about BJs in front of my son.
LOL MichelleS… now I need to go listen to that song…
Anne, I’ll buddy read CITD soon but I have Goodbye Man and possibly Push Kick coming up…plus I’ve been a little nostalgic for my YA PNR/dystopian days so I’m considering catching up on the Bloodlines series or the Unwind series. Can you see what I am *trying* to do? I’m attempting to stick to a list. We’ll see how long it lasts. 😉
Abba songs…loved Muriel’s Wedding.
*grins* MichelleS, then definitely don’t sing Maroon 5’s Sugar in front of him. Or Lil Wayn’e Lollipop. Usher’s Good Kisser. I can go on. Sugar is the funniest because so many people say how romantic it is, and I’m all… um…
I see nothing wrong with any of those songs, well except singing about oral in front of your kid. lol I thought and the only time I’m even close to “embarrassed”, though really more frustrated than embarrassed, is when I’m singing along with the radio to a song I don’t like. My niece caught me doing that so many times.
“You like this song?”
“Nope, it kinda sucks.”
“Then why are you singing it?”
Goodreads is opinion based list only. Page two, 101-200 had King on that list. However, I still love their list. It gives a good idea of what people like. (or are REALLY anticipating)
Jean, how about Dec 5? Too far out? Winter & right before US entered WW 2.
Amy, I remember Muriels wedding being sad.
ABBA is the best!!
Can someone confirm if Kick Push ends in a CH?
Lmk when you guys read Captive, I’ll reread!!
Talking of …um…steamy songs, this one. I’ll post lyrics but if you can give it a listen. His voice is Amazing in it and the music is great and maybe unexpected. Can’t find good link on phone. Mentioned it cple weeks ago to Maryse. Anyway lyrics.
https://www.metrolyrics.com/lovers-day-lyrics-tv-on-the-radio.html
I love The Last Riders. Just finished Lucky’s Choice (book 7). To answer your question about Shade, yes you need to read them in order. Shade’s story builds through all the books and there is Shade’s Fall (book 4) before Shade. There are still two bikers yet to have their stories told.
Thank you so much for the clarification Claudia. It sounds like a pretty great series…
“All I heard just now was ‘blah, blah, blah Danika wins’.”
Oh dear…I’m falling for them already…
Amy, I think I’ll let you be the guinea pig for GM…..I’m scared.
Bev, Dec 5 is prefect….it’s my husband’s bday and my best friend’s bday is Dec 7 d-day so it will be easy for me to remember!
I love ABBA and Muriel’s wedding!
Don’t know if there’s a CH to Kick Push yet but I thought it was a standalone. I am loving it!
Ooooo Grey did you just start? You are in for one helluva ride girl!!!!!!
Lol, Jean. As long as you don’t think to busy. We can move it to any time.
Yaay Grey! I am on book 3 right now and oh boy its quite a ride!
Grey you will love it. All torn heart angsty second of it.
37% in… Danika just had a dream…and Tristan *um…* assisted her with *err* equipment.
Wee, damn that was hot! snags some of that adela tea… I think they’d really like it haha!
I love seeing Anne and Grey experience T&D for the first time! 😀
Bev, there *was* a sad part in Muriel’s Wedding but the rest was pretty kooky and fun. Toni Colette was perfect.
Jean, I would think after Life of Anna that GM would be a piece of cake for you! I’m starting it this evening or tomorrow, and Maryse is supposed to buddy read with me after Paper Swan.
Still in for reading Goodbye Man, Maryse? I SO want a reaction video to it when you do!
Um, haven’t read them but I think GM is a totally different type of disturbed than Anna. At least from some of the reviews of GM. Two of the practices done, actually make that 3, I don’t think are done in Anna. Blech.
Lol.
Ummm yeah, you’re right Amy, but I’ll still let you be guinea pig!
Yeah, I love that Grey is reminding us of some of the scenes from T&D!
Hehe, this is gonna be interesting. Bev, your cryptic comments about it have me even more intrigued…are you sure you don’t want to join us? 😛
I finished The Paper Swan. I’m still thinking about what I thought about it. I liked it, loved the writing, but at times I thought the story dragged. It certainly was not a lighthearted read. I think what really keeps me from loving it was the course of the book after the “event” on the island and the subsequent affect on the H and how Skye handled it. It certainly had a rollercoaster ride of emotions between the H and h throughout the book.
Definitely need a lighthearted read now…
I’m a total geek but if going to plan a read of Bronze Horseman this far out, think may have fun with it.
https://smittenkitchen.com/blog/2012/01/apple-sharlotka/
Um, no.
I honestly can read dark and gritty. Like GOT, or this one prison book I read, but with those are different than this, I think. This seems like, IDK, Hannibal or something. And no I didn’t read anything about cannibalism. But very disturbed individuals. I have read one scene, and watched one scene from those Hannibal books & movies and cannot get it out of my head.
Doesn’t GM have a cliffhanger?
Oh I want in on the Bronze Horseman buddy read! This way I will have to read it finally! I know I will love it so no clue why I haven’t just read it already. I’m actually digging through historicals right now trying to decide on one since I’m in that kinda mood. I want to read Magic Shifts but that will be a one or two sitting devour for me so it has to wait until the weekend 🙁
Yes, Michelle do!
C’Mon Amy, this gives you plenty of time to prepare.
DIane M, skimmed some of the reviews for Kick, Push, no cliffhanger, but the H-Josh was in a previous book- Where the Road Takes Me.
Oh Grey that scene was so hot!! Tristan and his magic fingers 😉
Michelle yaay! We really need to set a date for The Bronze Horseman. The last time I read it was like 3 years ago.
I’ve always been curious about The Life of Anna. I know its dark but how dark? I mean is there torture and that kind of things? Cause I don’t really enjoy books that involve those practices.
So I know someone mentioned about adding books to GR account. Is there a fast/easy way to add books without clicking read on each individual book imported from Amazon?
Cheryl, I can’t imagine Josh in a previous book. He’s 16 when Kick, Push starts.
Anne, there is a lot of torture in LoA. It’s indescribable.
Thank you Fabi. Yeah not going to read it now lol
Did you like Kick, Push?
Fabi, I haven’t read either book, but Josh is the H Blake’s best friend. He’s described as a high school dropout raising his child on his own in WTRTM.
Anne, Dec 5th is the date, lol.
We a planning way in advance and apparently it’s a good cold weather book.
So, any one who’d like to read The Bronze Horseman with Jean, Michelle, and I mark your calendar. 😀
And I’m totally making that Russian apple cake.
Hi all, while I know this will entice some of you to read Goodbye Man, I just could not finish it. Too disturbing for my taste and I really love dark reads. I got 75% before I threw in the towel. Much harsher than the Life with Anna series. For a total switch I think I am going with Paper Swans for my next read!
“Much” harsher than LoA? Oh.my.god.
0.0 Worse than Life of Anne? You all sure you want to read it? I knew just from the disclaimer that I’d have issues, but you all read Life of Anne and this is worse.
Bev Dec 5th it is 😀
I am so not reading that book! Amy you are so brave!
Jean, just looked up your song. It’s one of those ones I know without realizing i do until I’m singing along to it. Like Love me like a rock by Paul Simon. For years didn’t realize that was him.
Done with City of Heavenly Fire. I will say this, it was good, but parts were a little too long, especially the HEA ending. Also, so much tension that a lot of the Jace jokes were missing. Still, it was good and the ending felt right.
Not reading now. Nope. Just going to bask in the glory of being finished.
Hee! Watching tv and playing on phone, decided to check blog I look at every couple weeks or so. This was one of the top post– just for you Tessa. What’s with the mop?
https://romanceatrandom.com/hunkday-man-buns/
Number three is that SAME GUY! And the dread buns? With the bun on his forehead? I can never un-see that. 0.0 Number four has Brad Pitt’s lips. Talk about ruining a good set of lips.
*hugs*
Not really sure what to read next because I’ve been sick and fuzzyheaded:(
I’m still reading Magic Breaks and could have gone to Ilona Andrews book signing tonight if I wasn’t so sick:(
But this cheered me up:
https://www.usatoday.com/story/happyeverafter/2015/08/05/marked-in-flesh-cover-reveal-excerpt-anne-bishop/31172859/
*reads and squees, running around like mad* BEV! WAKE UP BEV! Look! Niki brought a goodie! WAKE UP!
Thank you Niki! That is beyond the awesomeness of awesomeness. 🙂
Niki!!! Thank You!!! That is so great.
*runs around with Tessa*
Gah, Michelle needs to see this! Chase her & bad puppy, lol. And how cool that it is popular enough to be an excerpt like that.
But now the wait.
Niki, feel better!
Yes, Niki, definitely feel better. I totally sympathize losing out on seeing Ilona Andrews, but hopefully you’ll feel better soon and see them somewhere else.
The sad part is I didn’t even read the blurb because **whispers:I haven’t read Visions in Silver yet**. I’m getting there though so no peanut throwing… I bought it on release day but am saving it!!! I am behind two on Charley Davidson and Kate Daniels so I need to just have a paranormal read-a-thon this weekend 😉
Isn’t the cover nice though! Yay!!!
And thanks for the get well wishes 🙂 Hoping to get better on day four!!
I get you Niki. There is a book I bought on same day as ViS, sure I’d read them back to back. But no. Saving it or not right time to savor it. But been tthinking about it a lot lately, so probably v. Soon.
Its 2:30am and just finished the last book from the Tristan and Danika series. What a ride! Loved it! Thank you to everyone that recommended this series to me. *big hugs*
I’ll start Over the Fence later on today 🙂
*does a sleepy shriek* I wake up and find THAT waiting for me! I LOVE the cover and excerpt! I was hoping on one of these covers we’d get to see Simon though – wouldn’t that blow your mind! Is it weird that I want a red streak in my hair too?
I’m at 17% of Kick, Push and I have to tell y’all how great it is. I’m laughing, I’m crying, my heart hurts good and then it hurts bad. I am head over heels in love with Joshua. I was even reading parts of it out loud to my daughter last night just because I HAD to share some of the funniest parts. This is heartwarming and heartbreaking all in one. Beautiful, just beautiful.
Yes, yes, yes Fabi….all of that! I am in love with Josh too! Surprised to see he was in another book. Thanks for that info Cheryl! This book is amazing…..so many feels! Guys, you gotta read Kick Push like RIGHT NOW!
GM is worse than LoA?? How can that be? I read the whole LoA series and can’t imagine anything worse than that!!!!
GM worse than LoA? How can anything be worse than THAT? The only thing I can think of is if it is part Life of Anna and part Indebted series, then, yes…. maybe? So not going there…
I downloaded Paper Swan, but for some reason, I was still in urban fantasy mood, so I moved on to Blood Destiny #2. I need to see where this goes with Lord Alpha mr smirky smirk…. and he calls her kitten just to pis$ her off, which is totally up my alley! Love that kind of banter. Maybe ready for something more serious in a few days.
Then I get an email that my library has This Girl by Colleen Hoover ready for me AND and email that my e-loan for Grey (50 Shades) is ready!!! SHEESH – talk about a bonanza of choices.
Is it sad that none of them are screaming my name? I am just in that UF mood right now! But I don’t want to miss out on the loans!
Dag-nabit….
Read the blurb for Darker Waters, love the banter between the two MC’s. It’s all fun and games right now, but I am waiting for the angst to fall!! It’s my read for today.
I remember someone commenting that they loved DW but can’t remember who and I’m too lazy to scroll thru the comments. 😉
And don’t even get me started – because then I read Fabi’s in love with the guy in her book, so I go look that up, and just reading the few lines on amazon makes me love him already…. so…. yeah, that’s where I am, totally confused.
I think because the .GM isn’t or isn’t just a kidnap type book. I’m not sure if that is it at all. From reviews that’s a whole different type of market. *shudder* whole different types of dark.
Really? *blink blink* really? Cheryl just throws this one out there – and it’s like crack to me – you KNOW I can’t resist the Fae!!!! Dark Waters….
“When the world of Fae emerges on a rocky shore far from the Emerald Isle, all hell breaks loose.”
OH! My bad – you said Darker Waters!! LOL!!! So I got all excited for nothing? I can’t unsee the “Fae”…. so which book do you mean?
Cheryl, I think Anne & I both liked it. Yes, wonderful banter & chemistry. Like the honesty they had too. I did towards the end have a nitpick or two, but nothing big. Will definitely check out the next one.
Michelle, wasn’t it great!!!! But it just makes me want the book more. What is the pic!?!
Go for it, do a red streak.
Bev! Did you read the excerpt? My favorite line: “She sounded a little breathless. He was going to have to chase her more to build up her lungs”… LOL!!! I love that he is ALWAYS thinking like a wolf…
ooh ooh ooh – and this one: “Simon had planted a paw on Meg’s back and given her a quick but thorough sniff to make sure there wasn’t any blood.” – thorough, eh? yeah, I know, I’m a dirty minded girl, cause you know I soooo went there with his “thoroughness”… heeheehee… he’s checking her out… hey, no judging! I have THREE full length novels waiting for a tiny bit of hanky panky from these two – I’ll take what I can get…
Michelle – your post about Magic Shifts makes me want to start that series. Yup. Another confession: Never. Read. Kate. Daniels. Series. I know!!! I’m an idiot. Too many books…. not enough time….
MichelleS, yes the lungs, lol. That’s what I love that they really are other. And she bares her teeth at him. Bad puppy, that’s just sweet.
MichelleS, it’s Darker Water by Lauren Stewart. Sorry no fae in this book!!
MichelleS. First off, I went to Dark Waters because you said the magic word… Fae. I have it already and haven’t read it? Gah. Too many books, obviously. Second, I read that too, though my mind didn’t go there. I obviously need a dirtier mind. Now, peanut time. I got the Kate Daniel books originally from the library, not knowing what I was buying. Now, to get an idea. I made sure to go out and buy them all after I read them. They are that good. Good enough to say I anticipated that MORE than the Sherrilyn Kenyon book. I’ve reread each book like three times each at least. Go read them! You want sassy strong heroine? Kate. Just… read it! You’ll read the first and be grateful there’s a lot in the series.
Cheryl it was Bev and I that loved Darker Water. Oh there’s angst you just wait 😉
I am reading Kick, Pull right after Under the Fence 😀
First line Thursday:
I stepped inside the house, forcing the door shut behind me with a resounding slam. -Over the Fence. Melanie Moreland
Okay, I’m done. DONE. I’m so %&$#ing disgusted with Goodbye Man. I knew it would be dark. I knew there would be some questionable parts. I knew there would even be disturbing parts in it. I can handle dark. I can handle questionable. I can handle disturbing. But this sh!t? No %#$&ing way. I made it to about 40% (even though I was horrified) but when I had a hunch about where one particular part was going, I did a search for a certain term and BINGO! I was right. #&$% that.
I returned it. I want my %#&$ing 2.99 back. How the hell could those two women write something like that?!? I’m going to go and run a few miles and then I need something sickening sweet with a guaranteed HEA to wash this filth from my mind. *shudders and cringes*
*hugs Amy*
First line.
“This is how it all begins.” ~I’ll Give You The Sun by Jandy Nelson
Amy, there were all kinds of warnings about that book. 🙁 some things are just too sick.
Read Kick, Push next. It’s guaranteed to make you feel good.
I am sorry. I tried to warn you. Does the term start with “n”?
Kleypas Kleypas Kleypas!!!!
I wonder if Maryse is reading it?
I think that’s the ultimate test. Amy can’t even handle it. That must be pretty horrendous.
*sends happy HEA wishes*
Awww poor Amy! Glad you took one for the team!
Kick Push is exactly what you need right now! It kinda had that SoT feel, or maybe Reason to Breathe by Rebecca Donovan. Is so good!
First lines don’t do it justice, but here ya go:
Prologue: With my eyes closed, I could feel every stone, every bump, every crack of the pavement.
Chapter 1: *Fear (noun) an unpleasant emotion carried by the threat of danger, pain or harm*. It’s also a completely strange and difficult and sometimes unjustifiable emotion. I’ve lived with fear for all the reasons listed above. But now I’m experiencing it for an entirely different one. Uncertainty.
Sorry couldn’t limit it to one line. ….Kick Push by Jay Mclean. READ IT!!!!!!!!!!!!
This dress made me smile, lol.
https://bookriot.com/2015/08/06/book-fetish-volume-170/
I’d vote a Granger/Lovegood ticket.
😀
*Kicks Kick Push out of way*
Kleypas! Amy, Kleypas! C’Mon read a ROMANCE.
Hey bev! Back off!
(That dress made me smile too…haha…thanks)!
Anyone think of Amy still out their running.
Yes. I saw that disclaimer and was worried for those reading it.
First line Thursday:
I rode through the night-drenched streets of Atlantis on a mammoth donkey.
-Magic Shifts by Ilona Andrews
*squees in excitement*
Can I add line two so you can understand the fierceness of this sword wielding defender of the streets?
‘The donkey’s name was Cuddles.’
*grins wide*
LOL, I’m back and I feel better now.
Yes, y’all warned me. No, I didn’t heed the warnings. So I have no one to blame but myself. Heinous things were done to the 17-year-old girl while her pimp dad watched, which was horrid enough in itself but it had to get better from there, right? Then, one of the characters, er, proclivity was introduced (yep Bev, the “n” thing). Yuck, but whatever. But when I figured out what the “twist” was going to be, NO. Not going there.
And now, I have a book that I can call “that which shall not be named.” 😉
Oh *gasp*
Thank you for guinea-pigging that one Amy. Just read your comment.
*insert nope octopus here*
Wait. Is the n word the reason for the name of the book? Cause if so, eeew.
It’s The Goodbye Man Amy right? I just noticed all of the Amazon reviews are 4 and 5 stars. :-0
Ohhhh THE GOODBYE MAN!!!!!
So… no? Okay I have to catch up on these comments ’cause I was so intrigued by this “horror”
First line…
“I won’t lie.” ~ The Fiery Heart (Bloodlines #4) by Richelle Mead
I can’t put the second line to clarify that ’cause it would spoil the previous book. Yep, I’m jumping into a nice, safe YA PNR.
Tessa, the disclaimer on GR should be on Amazon as well, and even then there should be more stated about what the book entails. *sigh* At least now I have time with Adrian Ivashkov to look forward to! 😀
Tessa, I love that first line. When catch up on reads that’s the series I’m diving back into.
Um, maybe? The red market I assume is in reference to what one harvested and sold.
Oh Amy! So sorry it was that awful! You were so brave to even consider reading it!
That’s what I was thinking in regards to the n & his business. Are they spoilers it seems like it should be warning.
Oh no I think I know what the n word is a no way! That is so disgusting!! I mean why?
So, if Maryse started it do you think she is off running too.
Shaking her fist at Amy.
Bev if it is what I think it is then they should totally add a disclaimer that such practices are mentioned. That is so disturbing! I don’t want to even think about it!
I am half way through Over the Fence and liking it but I wish the h was a little stronger. And she giggles a lot…
Tessa, the title of the book has to do with what one of the MCs does for a living, which is pretty messed up. The n word is something one of the other MCs has a preference for.
*covers Fabi’s mouth* Shhhhhhh!!!!! Don’t say the title and summon the beast. 😛 Yeah, it does have all 4 and 5 stars but I have a feeling they were ARCs or friends of the authors or whatever. I could be wrong (wouldn’t be the first time ;)), but I’m just surprised it hasn’t received complaints and been pulled considering how quickly Her Master’s Courtesan was pulled…and I don’t think HMC, even though it was pretty difficult to read, should have been pulled.
Yeah guys…the “practices” should be listed in the disclaimer, but the topic that was a no-go for me should *especially* be listed.
*throws hands up* Why are you shaking your fist at me, Bev?!? I’m the victim here. *snicker* 😛
Ok this will probably give it away but oh well. But Amy, remember the scene of Tig in the morgue? Lol.
So, if I treat myself to a frap today, what kind?
YES, Bev. It definitely teeters on that line, and one memory of his takes a flying leap right over that line.
Have you had the S’mores frap from Starbucks? Ohhhhh my, that one is heavenly! Marshmallow whipped cream, graham cracker crumbles and chocolate syrup…okay, now I want one.
OOOOOH! Lookie ladies!!
https://www.zoya.com/content/item/Zoya/ACRYLIC%20TRAY%20FOCUS%20AND%20FLAIR%20COLORS.html
I want both sets! MINE! 😀
Amy, you’ve never read Life of Anna right? That one is worse than The Tied Man.
Love both sets Amy! The metallic ones are especially lovely.
Amy or Michelle, Top coats to maybe delay chipping? I saw essie had one said gel like.
Fabi I’ve been meaning to read The Tied Man for so long! Is it very dark?
Bev have you tried Seche Vite? Its my favorite top coat!
Anne, it was a group read around here. I found it pretty rough. Maryse may have a review on it. I don’t remember.
Anne, https://www.maryse.net/books/book-review-the-tied-man-by-tabitha-mcgowan.html
Anne, nope. I’m only an occasionally nail polish type, mostly cause it chips, lol. I’ll look it up, thanks.
After reading that, I know what Amy needs!
*drags the cushions from her couch and sets them up*
*puts one on top*
*puts a nice, dark blanky over it, and a blanky inside*
*puts a battery powered lantern in with a flashlight*
There, a new blankie cave for her and Manny to hang out in.
Lol, Tessa.
That was my first br with you ladies……it’s a wonder I stuck around.
Anne if you read it, do not believe the whole it gets better at 76%.
Haven’t gotten to read at all today… *I has a sad*, Tristin and Danika are waiting for me…
Thank you for the link to Maryse’s review Bev! Oh its kinda similar to the first part of Acheron? I loved that book! But I am kinda scared to read it alone lol
Yikes GM! I love a dark read but that seems like too much. Although i am intrigued by Life of Anna now, the first book is free so i’m gonna try it out.
Has anyone finished Kick, Push? i love skater boys
I couldn’t help but go back and read that TTM review! So crazy that it was August 2014 when we read that together!
*sighs* Acheron was good.
I did buy Dragonbane, but I have to confess. Max was never seen enough to intrigue me. I’ll read it, and probably love it, but he isn’t someone I was dying to read about. Thorn, however. I want his story so badly.
I think Amy is avoiding us since we are still talking about her dark book, so instead I think we should discuss the merits of pets in books. I’ll start. I want a mammoth donkey named Cuddles that is black and white spotted, thus looking like he stole a cow’s clothes. It sounds awesome.
Anna i haven’t read TTM yet either, IDK, i think Maryse’s freak out freaked me out!!
Aug of last year?
That’s so weird. I’ve been talking to you ladies almost everyday for a year, lol.
I wonder if we met in person if we’d talk easy or just really awkward silence?
Lol bev! I know, a year! Time flies when you’re having fun!
“We broke half of the rules on our list back in that ditch…”
*Heavens to Mergatroid* I think I need a cold shower after that…
Diane M we should BR TTM so we can freak together lol
Grey Tristan is so naughty and hot!
I think I really HAVE talked to you ladies every day for at least a year. I don’t talk to anyone everyday, except my immediate family!!! You’re all in my “wolf pack, circle of trust”…. LOL! Good times…
First things first: first line Thursday, “I sensed it was about to happen before I felt it.” Bloodmagic (Blood Destiny Book 2). I, like Amy, needed my safe zone for now.
So “n word” is obviously not what it normally means…. so…. I’m thinking I know…. which would make it totally illegal anywhere in the world, right? And ***** possible spoiler ****** kind of stiff and cold??? Is that it? What else could it be? Totally stumped.
Be warned you “Life of Anna” considerers (I’m making up words now). That is one messed up story. I kind of want to buy them all because I keep thinking Amazon will pull the plug on that kray-kray-craziness… but they haven’t. And then they will and I’ll be all “I missed out!”…. but for now, I am slowly.. I mean s.l.o.w.l.y. reading it. Can only take so much.
Kick Push, can I read it as a standalone? It’s KU which I still have so intrigued.
MichelleS! Seriously you HAVE TO read the Kate Daniels books!!!! Ahhh I can’t even believe it! They are seriously in my top 5 UF series EVER EVER and you know how many I’ve read! So now, you have to read Magic Bites, Red Rising and Clan of the Cave Bear *digs out my WiR peanuts reserved for Maryse, refurbishes them and flings the whole mess at ya*
WHOA *mouth hanging open* Amy couldn’t finish GM! Alright that must be some fantastically messed up shit haha…no offense Amy 😉
Bev, Anne beat me but Seche Vite is one of my favorites. Cult Nails Wicked Fast top coat and La Couleur Couture 2013 are my other go-to ones right now.
Okay what book is GM?
*picks up peanuts and starts eating ’em*
P.S. I just bought a pretty Illamasqua Nail polish in Loella Bright Candy Pink. That’s my favorite brand. SO HARD to find though…
https://www.illamasqua.com/loella-nail-varnish/
Soooooo pretty:
thanks for the head’s up on LOA MichelleS and yes it is that ‘n’, someone wrote it out on the last review on amazon.
OMG Anne, can’t we just read Captive in the dark again??
Bev- i can’t imagine any silence
Thank you Michelle! Mine too. Top five, easily. 🙂
Michelle: Red Rising? When did we talk about THAT? Oh fudge blasted…. you just take some of your gigantic peanut pile and go make some peanut butter… here’s the recipe *sticks tongue out* https://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/alton-brown/homemade-peanut-butter-recipe.html
So, do you think if we ladies all got together at a bar one day that we would cackle this much and throw peanuts and have this much fun? Or would it be a bunch of awkward cricket noise?
*removes 15 oz. of peanuts in a prim manner and reflings the rest*
Michelle, I’m reading Kick, Push as a standalone. I am so picky about not reading a book unless I’ve read the previous ones. Even when they’re about different couples. I only 20-30% in, but this book truly reads like a stand alone. There are no references to previous characters or scenes. I can let you know for sure once I finish but really I’m am the pickiest of the picky when it comes to that. I can’t even read spinoff series unless I’ve read the original.
Kick, Push is NA CR and the best I’ve run across since…ummmm. Hm, I’m have nothing to compare it to other that a slight resemblance to Sea of Tranquility.
LOL Michelle and MichelleS too funny with the peanuts.
Rut roh… *peeks thru my fingers over my eyes* I can’t read anymore…
I’ll definitely check out that top coat then.
Fabi, so how did you like the ending on Sea of T?
MichelleS, I know it’s kind of insane how much we do talk to each other.
Then we’d meet and be all…..um…hot today, huh?
Or potentially some of us could be mean girls. *gasp*
I’m so boring in a bar. I can count drinks in like years. Like 3 yrs ago I had a sip of that, 5 before that a margarita, lol. So it goes to my head fast. I’d be sitting there drinking Pepsi, lol.
Diane M we need to be brave! We can do it! We are tough girls *snorts* lol. No but seriously we should read it sometime 😉
Oh Grey prepare to have your heart ripped out. Poor T&D!
Grey, just yank your heart out. It’ll be over faster that way.
*throws peanut at MichelleS* Seriously read Kate Daniels! Blood Destiny has nothing on the awesomeness of the Kate Daniels series. I just assumed, since it was so awesome, you’ve read it.
Bev, SoT was a beautiful story. I wanted more!
I’m not *hiccup* crying… I’ve got *sniffle* allergies…
Tristan just left… *need ice cream*
*squeals and dives in Tessa’s blankie cave* Perfect!!! You knew just what I needed after…that. Y’all talk all you want about *ahem* the book. I’ll just plug my ears and go la-la-la!!
I agree with the other ladies that Seche Vite is GREAT as a topcoat. The only thing to keep in mind is that you may have shrinkage with it, which isn’t a big deal with lighter colors but with darker colors it is more obvious as the nail tips will start to show. Also, it has a tendency to get thick so you may need to use nail polish thinner on it at some point.
Was our TTM buddy read a year ago??? That was fun! Well, the buddy read was…the book was kinda heavy. Hehe, I like MichelleS’s “wolf pack, circle of trust” thing.
Amy,
Michelle, I have to correct what I said earlier about K,P. At 30+% there does seem to be some mention of a previous story with his best friend as the H. But, still, its not affecting this “stand alone” at all. Maybe Jean will pipe in, she’s likely much further along than I am.
If we are the wolf pack I’m definitely not showing up to Vegas, lol.
Amy, it was fun wasn’t it? You know what would be fun if you join Jean, Anne, Michelle & I with the Bronze Horseman on Dec 5th. Be a geek like me and make something Russian.
Michelle, no offense taken! I know my tastes can be a bit…different, at times. 😉
Oh wow, if we all got together at a bar there would be NO awkward silences or crickets ’cause I hate those. We could always find something to chat about. And peanut throwing? Oh heck yeah, give me a few drinks and I’ll start tossing the peanuts…literally. 😛
*peeks head out of blankie cave* Psssst…Grey! Come in here with me and we can snuggle with the stuffed manatee. You still have some rough times ahead with T&D, but I PROMISE they are worth it!!
Ok I am DNFing Over the Fence. The h is just too naive and insecure. I don’t need the h to be always strong and confident but this one is too much. She blushes and giggles all the time! And yes he likes you! You can actually feel how much! You don’t have to second guess everything he says! Just stop! Ok end of rant lol
Starting Kick, Push. Hopefully it’ll be a better read.
LOL Bev!!!!!! I like how your mind went *there* when I said shrinkage…we’re rubbing off on each other! No comments from the PG about the rubbing off part. 😛
I’ll join y’all on December 5th for a BH buddy read! Ummm, why is it December 5th? *scratches head* No matter, I’ll still be there…and you KNOW I’ll be making something Russian, even if it’s just a white russian drink. Ooh! That gives me time to get some Russian recipes together! 😀
Anne, I’m holding my breath until I hear what you think of KP after you start it.
Those of you who read VA…do you remember Adrian? *sigh*
You all warned me… I can’t say you didn’t. I’m sending whomever threw this Tristan & Danika peanut, *this one right here*, a bill for Kleenex & Advil.
Yep, you guessed it…finished book 1. Been crying for 10 minutes now… *grabs Manny the manatee & snuggles into the blanket fort with Amy*.
You guys must hate me…making me read these books that coax me with sarcasm & witty banter. Seduce me with mind melting smut… Then gut me, leaving me a hot, sappy, complete mess…
Ooooh, book one done! Yeah, just… stay in the cave through book two, k? *hugs* It’s good though, right?
Amy, I am being quiet, but come on. Rubbing off after a shrinkage comment?
I’ll participate on Dec. 5. Though, thinking about it, I think I can do a white russian tonight, with whip cream vodka. Yum!
Amy, I think I need to re-read VA again. I had to look up who Adrian was.
Dec 5th, because Marina said it is a good winter book. And so Jean & I decided to just pick a day to start, otherwise prob wouldn’t.
Amy, somewhere up there I linked to a Russian apple cake from Smitten Kitchen. Think I’ll make it. Maybe more, lol. *shrug* why not. A themed read.
Yay! Tessa is joining.
42 % in… Danika just overheard Deans plan… I hate him. I’m planning what to toast Danika with when she kicks him in the junk…
*hands Grey a bottle of vodka* You’re going to need this if we aren’t awake when you’re done.
Just finished Kick,Push and loved it! Fantastic book! Josh is perfect! He is such a great guy. And Tommy! I love that kid so much! This book gave me all the feels. One of the best books I’ve read this year. Outstanding!
Wow Anne, you started and finished it in one night. :-0
I bet Jean is finished too. I’m somewhere in the 30+% range. If I do another group read I’m going to have to start a week before everyone else. :-/
I love how you guys are getting into the russian theme! a few years ago me and my friends had our book club meeting at the Russian tea room after we read a book with russian characters
Fabi I just couldn’t put it down! I finished like at 3:00am lol! It was that good!
Fabi, I actually did not finish KP yet…..didn’t get much time to read this week as I have a family member in the hospital and have been running back and forth all week and trying to get to work too. I can’t believe Anne finished it in one night!! It totally gives me the same feels as SoT! Hope to finish it today! I’m at about 35%.
Thinking I have to read The Paper Swan next because my girlfriend at work is freaking out about it and she usually doesn’t read a book before I do, so yeah, I’m kinda jealous of her jumping into it before me and her reaction….lol!
Anne, I love Tommy too! I love when kids are in our books and the funniest things they say!
Jean, I’m a little over 50% – the feels in this book are breathtaking. Some of the scenes and some of the lines … I just pause in my reading and stare at the sentence and think WOW, that was … Just perfect.
Jean, I hope your family member gets well soon. Lots of get well wished sent your way for them.
I think it’s the Goodbye Man???
That’s gorgeous Maryse!!
GM is Goodbye Man
Decided to sneak a peek into Life of Anna and finished book 1, it’s addicting but i’m sacred to keep reading! Where are you in it all MichelleS?
Jean, hope all is well soon. And take care of yourself, too.
Maryse, some of those polish names, lol.
Haha Maryse! I love the “nope octopus”!
Thanks Fabi! Yes, I find myself doing the same thing….slow reading to enjoy all the wonderful moments! Maryse, read Kick Push….YOU WILL LOVE IT!!!!!!!
Diane M, I read the entire LoA series…..it’s a rough one, but I will never forget it! Luckily, I buddy read it with friends in work so that made it a little easier….but just a little…..
Thanks bev! You guys are the best support!
Diane M, I think I’m through book 3 in LoA. Like MichelleS, I can only read one every so often. They are brutal but addicting.
Thanks Maryse… I was curious, was there ever a winner picked for the Pure Abandon book giveaway? I’ve held off on buying that one, just in case I win haha!
I can’t wait until I can lay down and start reading again. Tristan & Danika have got me right by the feels and they’re not letting me go.
However, after all this love, I think I am going to move Kick, Push to the top of my TBR pile…
Yay Grey! Kick Push will be just what you need after T&D!
Don’t know what to read next :/
Decided to finally read Obsidian 😀
Anne, that’s another great one. I think you’re on a roll. 🙂
Oh, Anne. Another great series. 🙂
Great choice Anne! I just recently read it and loved it!
Jean…*big hugs* Hope your family member gets better.
Nope octopus is right, Maryse! Seriously, it was bad. Dark, brutal and odd sexual proclivities, I can handle reading those. But even I draw the line at certain taboo things.
Yay! We have another one who is going to experience the the hotness that is Daemon in Obsidian. 😀
Oooo Kick Push has a SoT feel per Jean and Fabi is gushing = SOLD
@59% of KP
Oh Joshua, you just broke my freakin heart.
Loving Obsidian so far! Daemon is so hot but what a jerk! Love him lol!
Fabi my heart broke so many times during that book. I wanted to hug Josh so many times!
Yes, do not read review if you hate spoilers, or things not mentioned in blurb.
Lol, Anne it made our nope octopus move. For Maryse made her want to read it more, heh.
So excited for Cold Hearted Rake!
