Look, I’m the first one again.
Wild Abandon Christmas just dropped it appears!
Lara Adrian new release just hot moved to January 16 bummer
AND I’M FOURTH!!!!!!!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOO
Ela for the win!
LOL!!!! You guys crack me up!!!!!!! 😛
Sooooo many great ones coming out ☺
Hey all… No chance of slowing down here.
Yes, a definite plug for Wild Abandon Christmas! If you’ve followed the story at all…it’s a must read!
At my youngest’s chorus concert tonight…we leave in 3 more days… The countdown is on!!!
Pffft.
I’m writing out my best of. Trying to edit it down, not that there was tons, but still.
Tiffany Reisz author of The Orginal Sinners series just released a FREE novella for Christmas called The Scent of Winter. You can download the book to kindle for free! Soren and Kingsley in a cabin….yep!
Finally done. So hopefully I do not have anymore great reads for the year, lol.
That’s what I said…then From Sand and Ash happened.
R, how many best of books did you read? I saw your GR list and you said this one will be different.
This one will be my top ten. The one on GR was more for fun. Which best of books are you referring to?
And question, has anyone read Making Faces? I need to give my daughter something to read. Does anyone remember if there’s sex in it? Sand and Ash had a little but still more than I’m comfortable with for her!
I have it bev!!! 😀
I’ve prepared it into a post draft… coming soon!!
Oooh Robyn, thank you!
I’m gonna search for it.
R… I loved it but I can’t remember if there was sex… it was years ago.
I’d say no or not much (maybe a fade to black) because to me that book was sweet, and poignant. Life lessons and all.
BUT!!! Maybe?
Thanks Maryse! I’d have a lot more options if I didn’t just take her phone and tablet away! 😀 I have to resort to paperbacks. She just asked me about Hausfrau LOL. Noooo!!
gasp!!!!!!!
Baaahahahahah!!!
I should give her Larks and really freak her out.
Why not just give her Hausfrau? With a note, This is what sex leads to.
Maryse, your fast.
Have to skim Wild Abandon before reading the Christmas one. Started Swing. So far, good. Not much time to read with Christmas shopping, work, and getting ready to go out of town. Hoping to have time while traveling to put together my top ten fav list. *fingers crossed*
Maryse…you download the book off tiffanyreisz.com
Go to her, website and you can download the novella for a bunch of different platforms besides kindle. She has a Wattpad,Nook and several others. Hope this helps!
Thank you Robyn!!!
For some reason, my preorder of Wild Abandon Christmas was cancelled today….strange, but I’m looking forward to that one!
I read The Gift over the past weekend. It was good, a little twisty, and I was totally intrigued by the whole premise of what sometimes happens with donor transplants! I was googling that sh!t! Crazyiness! If you are looking for something really different, I recommend it!
Okay Jean that sounds pretty awesome then… thank you for letting us know!!!! 😀
Jean, they were canceled because they released early. Or at least that’s what I saw on FB. You can download it now.
R. How old is your daughter?
17. 18 in March. But even when she’s 40 I don’t think I could hand over a book with sex in it. I’d die. It’s why I can’t read YA with HS teens anymore. Oy vey!
But on another note…I did just discover last night (and most of this morning), I can read YA with an H instead of an h. Read and love 😀
I can’t relate since I don’t have children BUT my coworker and her mother read all our faves together. They even went to see Fifty as a group! My coworker is in her 50’s and her mom 70’s…
What’s the YA with the H you discovered? I found that most YA bore me where as before I loved the genre!
I’d be a really bad aunt for your daughter! I’d hand her Opal Carew with a red bow!
Ela you stay away from my daughter! You’re already killing off all the fantastical wildlife on GR with all your “C” talk!
I didn’t discover it, it’s a rec. But I want to say just yet. It’s super top secret. Stay tuned…
That is no fair R! I was wondering the same thing as Ela as to what you were reading! Give us a hint???
Also, I think a lot of bev’s recommendations would work for your daughter…..Eleanor & Park, Everything Everything, Jellicoe Road, Dumplin, etc., etc.
I agree Jean, but I was trying to find something I already have in paperback form. My order of Everything, Everything got cancelled or that would have been perfect! She ended up with Hush, Hush. I keep forgetting back in my Twilight days, I actually WAS a YA connoisseur.
My daughter loved Hush, Hush when she was B’s age! She gobbled up the entire series.
Ok, time to take a break from this book.
Coffee & pastry then holiday shopping.
R, has she ever read the classics? Little Women, P&P, Anne of Green Gables?
You could find gorgeous hard cover versions. And they are great reads.
LOL bev. Getting her to read ANYTHING is a chore. That’s a dream that has crashed and burned many moons ago.
Soren Kingsley in a cabin? That’s better than the tent scene from Twilight. I’m so on it!
Shade of Vampire #37? Seriously??? Okay. That one’s never going on my list. Who can commit to something like that?
Oh chill Robin! I edited my post….
Love you Ela! XOXO
R, does she have a library card?
The girl hates to read. A library is the epitome of hell to her. I don’t know where I went wrong :-/
Lol R!
She is adopted. So it’s not ALL my fault. Just mostly…
LOL!!!!! <3 😛
GUYS!!!! Ela is reading the “C” book #2!! And I don’t think she even has a gun to her head! Amy, make cocktails. We need to stage an intervention.
Ok. I was going to wait until I finished it, but I can’t. I didn’t want bev to know I was reading it because I didn’t want to subconsciously influence her opinion on the book she’s currently reading (one of my faves), but I think she’s far enough in that that can’t happen now. So, here it goes:
She’s freaking right about Simon.
BEV IS RIGHT, BEV IS RIGHT!!!!!! YAY! LOL!
Look Jean. Let’s not make this any worse than it is. It took a lot of vodka to be able to type that sentence.
LMAO
Blahahahaha…..so it takes a lot of vodka to appease bev!
I am sorry.
I didn’t hear that??
Now I feel bad I’m not enjoying this book more since you (& Cheryl) loved it. 🙁
No! bev! That’s the main reason I didn’t tell you I was reading it. Don’t feel bad! I love that you gave it a shot! I’m sure I’d hate most of your recs if that makes you feel better 😀
LMAO!!
…..”I’m sure I’d hate most of your recs if that makes you feel better”
HAHAHAHA, THAT IS PRICELESS!
LOL Only because they’re mostly YA or non-romance! Not because it’s bev. At least I don’t think that’s it…
Lol.
You know this is the first time R and I have read what the other likes, I’m not sure we have had much overlap before.
I am happy you like Simon.
The emails…SWOON. I’m dying. I want to go curl up in the bathtub and read but I don’t want to stop long enough to walk to the bathroom, if that tells you anything.
Now just have to convince Amy, Fabi, and Maryse.
C’mon, Jean. You know you wanna.
I won’t even try with Amy or Fabi. I don’t think it’s for them. Maryse I have no idea about.
OMG. Major book fog! Why did I submit my Best of list to Maryse already? THIS BOOK! It needs to be added. Walking Wounded, by Lauren Gilley.
The feels? Oh gah!! They’re so REAL. And FABI. Drop whatever you’re reading cause this is the m/m book you MUST READ. I can’t stop thinking about it. I read it straight through. I miss Hal & Luke already.
Lauren Gilley is such a talented writer. Add it to my list, Maryse, because I give it 5 big stars. What an amazing surprise. Touching & authentic. Yippee!!
R. Renee – which Simon???
I will bow to your better knowledge of Fabi ‘ s book taste.
But Maryse and Amy……I’ll take those stakes. I think they’d enjoy it. Right, MichelleS?
Ok, I need to read Lauren Gilley.
Homo Sapien Simon. And I have to stop reading so I can get ready to go to dinner! I ate yesterday! I’m fine!!!!
Amy doesn’t read MM or male POV. This is definitely a no go for her!
MichelleS have I told you how much I love you lately?!
I’ve dnf’d 3 out of my last 4 books. Not having something good to read puts me in a “moood”. Since I like 99.9999% of the books you like, I’m getting Walking Wounded NOW.
Au contraire. Amy does like YA male pov. Plus, Amy is all about identifying with the protagonist and the heart and emotions of a read. This has that. And she is a fearless reader ready to try out side her own parameter.
I love that we are dissecting Amy’s likes and dislikes when she is not here. Lol.
Now she has to read it to find out who is right. 😉
Honestly, I’m just happy anyone is reading it.
I loved Homo Sapien Simon! I didn’t think of it as a Mail POV. Those are usually all Tough & alpha. Like Evan Arden. Simon was funny & Sweet.
I don’t know where Amy is!!!!
I Think she’s working her butt off.
I think WE’LL need to make extra martinis for her when she shows up. hahah
LOL bev and R!!!!!!
YOU TWO CRACK ME UP!!!!!
What bev is book reading?
Er…
*ahem*
I mean…
WHAT BOOK is bev reading?
Okay Michelle, I’m finding your “draft” post and adding this to it. LOL!
MichelleS can we read Walking Wounded without having read any of the other books?
I’m reading Never Stop Falling by Ashley Drew. It is one of R & Cheryl’s favorite reads this year. R had mentioned previously that it was a book she wished more people would read.
It is not quite working for me. It is very readable and I plan on finishing it, but the story is moving too quick for me, I’m not emotionally invested enough, and the heroine irks me.
However, R & Cheryl are fans so take my opinion with a lot of salt, lol.
R is reading Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda!!!!
You should read it, Maryse. Just, you know, to let us know how you fall on the whole Amy debate. Or sample like a Christmas cookie, an Oreo Christmas cookie.
Walking Wounded is a complete stand alone! Which is another reason I loved it
Hey all! I’ve had a ridiculously busy week that just won’t stop so I haven’t had much time to do anything much less read. So I’ve been curious every time Bev’s mentioned Simon, bc I’ve liked all her rec’s so far but the mm thing has held me back. Still, I absolutely adored Carry On, and I’m wondering if it’s like that? Even all the rave about Wolfsong had me really wanting to give it a go, but I just don’t know if it’s my thing. Carry On is the only reference point I’ve got.
Lol I really don’t think you could persuade Amy to read it. I can’t even get her to read the Nick Chronicles and she loves the Dark Hunter books.
I keep trying to read the assassins blade and still haven’t. I’ve no idea why since things are constantly referenced to what’s in it. Yet her writing is so good, I’m not missing anything when reading her stories.
MichelleS I’m reading The Secret in the Irin Chronicles and OMG, I love finally knowing what’s going on! I figured the big mystery that has been from book one, but the full story and ramifications? *squeels*After this I need another Tairen Soul type story. Any recs?
Maryse Walking Wounded is totally a standalone and you don’t need to have read the others.
Michelle S thanks for reminding me about this book. I got excited and downloaded it straight away but somehow got distracted by other books and had only read the start of it. Now I’ve picked it up again. I’m 32% in and really liking it. Very different from her MC books, but Ms Gilley is def a quality writer. Her characters are always great.
Hmm. Interesting question Tasha. In a way, maybe. Lol. Simon is only from his pov. He is a very likable and sympathetic character. I mean a really great narrative voice.
Like Carry On there is humor and fleshed out secondary characters. I really like the romance, it’s a bit mysterious and pretty much happens in a epistolary way. However, it is not the only plot point or drive of the book.
I’d say try the sample.
Hey, did you see the new pb cover for Carry On? Gah, that book.
Tessa, you should try it cause of the whole HP thing.
LOL bev. I had to look up ‘epistolary’……. *embarrassed grin*
On my way to research ‘epistolary’ also! *high five, Jean!* lol 😉
-randomness-
You know, I love wrapping presents…
…for the first 4-5 boxes. :-/
Oh I LOVE the new cover Bev!! I liked the last one also, but this one is so neat!
No worries Bev. I will say I wanted to b!tch slap the h too!! It does take an interesting turn towards the end. I’m not a fan of YA, but I do find it interesting that the author of Simon is a clinical psychologist.
Maryse, I’m not sure why but every time I make a comment lately I have to re-enter my name and email.
Cheryl, I have to re enter my info each time too. Also, it is back to not sending emails.
I have to re-enter my name and email each time too.
Same here Cheryl. It’s not so bad on the computer, but on the phone, it keeps trying to put in a separate email when I start to write it.
Bev, eventually. It’s like Jellicoe Road or that Assassin book up there. I know I’ll like it, even love it, but something is just stopping me.
Okay I will send this to my tech support and see what’s up with the comments…
Okay I rounded up your comments about what’s happening, and I sent it off. It should be fixed soon! 😀
You know I like to think you’d like them, but maybe you wouldn’t and that’s what is keeping you from reading it.
Yes same here Cheryl bev Fabi and Tessa. It’s a PAIN!. (Thought it was just me). And email seems to have stopped too 🙁
I don’t think it’s that I won’t like it, but have to get in the right mood. A lot of books are like that for me. Like, the book I just finished, The Secret. It had to wait for the right mood. Well, that and wait for me to re-read the first 2. I may end up with a what book is this moment because of what I thought the series was. It was mixed with 2 books I loved in my mind.
I just want to take a minute to say that I really love all of you here – I’m so glad I found you and this crazy place! That is all…carry on.
I love you guys!!! 😀
Awwww Lisa, ditto, ditto, ditto! Love you all! Don’t know what I’d do without you guys!
Hey, I’m reading a book right now that I AM LOVING SO SO MUCH!!!! It’s called Royal Atlas by H.J. Bellus! OMG, THE FEELS!!!!!!
I’m catching up from last night.
Lisa I <3 you too! And sorry about your TBR! :-/
Fabi I wrapped presents in college at a department store in Stephenville. I'm sort of a professional. <–bragging.
Maryse, the bev/book thing just made water come out of my nose.
bev OMG super impressed how you just compliment/guilted Amy to read a book. Bravo, my friend.
The h in Never Stop Falling is flawed and screwed up due to something that knocks her off kilter when she's 18. I wanted to strangle her too, but I "got" her. And Nick…le sigh.
Done with R’s book.
Now onto Jan’s.
Look at me I’m actually reading two recs in a row.
FLT- “What was the point of cold weather without any snow?” The Scent of Winter by Tiffany Reisz…. Le sigh, if I can’t have my stolen week about Zach and Nora… I guess Søren and Kingsley will have to do, LOL! God I miss them so much!!!
FLT
“Where do you want me?”
Perv by Dakota Gray
bev, can mine be third?
The Nightingale in HC is $7 on bookoutlet.com!

And there’s a Sherlock coloring book, bev 😀
FLT: “It’s a weirdly subtle conversation.” Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Abertalli
Is yours Wolfsong Fabi?
I did order Sherlock and the Abominable Bride, I have not seen it yet. Coloring may take it a step too far.
Oh, I was in a bookstore yesterday. Picked up a little book called Illuminae, my library was coming up short on that one.
Flt: The first time I met Tyler Wilkie, I was dressed like a call girl. —Grace Grows by Shelle Sumners.
FLT: “Mom said we aren’t supposed to be down here.” (Royal Atlas, H.J. Bellus)
I love all you guys too!!! But you know what wicked bums me out?? (I was very sad about this last night). I wish we were not all so spread out over the country/world and could have “in person” book clubs. I was thinking about how fun it would it be…Maryse could make us yummy food, Amy make drinks, Bev make us laugh…
I wish you guys could come and spend the weekend at my house so bad. We could have a pajama party and make a real blankie fort right in the middle of my living room. Maybe we should do it… I would cook, Amy would be out bartender, and we’d get a bucket of nuts to fling at each other in real life! LOL! Er only one at a time though. ‘Cause ouch.
yup bev, this year it’s Wolfsong. Last year it was Illuminae but I have a hard time picturing you liking that one. Hope I’m wrong!
Act Like It is .99. I really enjoyed this one and would not make a bad holiday read. Great chemistry, witty banter, the London stage, you know if you need to escape someplace that will make you smile and keep your mood up.
Ooooooh!!!
*runs to see if I already clicked “Act Like It”*
YAY!! I have it! 😀
I really wish we could all get together too Leslie!
Well, I’m outta here guys….heading to my holiday company party for an afternoon of drinking and eating!! Merry, merry!
Wait, Jean. Wait.
Be one of our heroines. Get all dolled up. Put that red lipstick on.
Look for the meet cute. First man you see accidentally fall into him. Realize he smells like spruce and mint. Know he thinks you smell like lemon merengue pie.
Wow him with your witty one liners.
The chemistry is explosive.
By the third drink your drunk bff is saying really inappropriate things, suggestions of what you and mystery man should do.
No your married.
But it is true love. You know this because of the goosebumps and his green eyes.
Your torn in two.
Yes, your husband is ok and all, but sometimes he seems to think working and sleeping is more important than goosebumps.
And green eyes.
Your so torn so you drink more. And more.
Ok, one more.
No place like work to get plastered and make bad decisions. Your boss will understand.
Oh my god.
Green eyes is your new boss.
*gasp*
Oh, he’s infuriating.
You run to the bathroom. You rail and cry.
Your bff comes in and cheers you up by making jokes about your vagina and candy canes.
Beep beep….it’s your husband on the phone.
Oh, Jean what will you do?
LOL bev!!!!!!!! OMG that short story is HILARIOUS.
Okay so at the pajama party, I cook, Amy bartends, and bev regales us with her improv angsty love stories!! *snort*
Fabi, beginning of January. Promise. It will be the first new book I start.
bev!!!! You just wrote your first book! Congratulations! It’s a huge 5-star winner.
Jean, please apologize to your husband for us. Remind him it’s “in books, ONLY in books”.
Oh. My. God. bev.
Where is that post? I’m freaking dying right now. I just read it in email, but it’s not here!
OK. Now it is LOL
Jean – Royal Atlas is on my TBR (but haven’t yet purchased) list. Awesome to know you are enjoying it!!! I love the feelz!
Peppermint mocha on an empty stomach makes me silly. I really should check my grammar before I hit send.
Bev, are YOU Max Monroe???
So, bev, you said you bought the HB format of Illuminae…Have you flipped through the pages yet?
Lol Bev, that was priceless. That has Marmy written all over it.
I had to go and look up ‘epistolary’ too – ack! I thought I had a pretty good vocabulary, but…. anyhoo…
Tessa. The pressure! Recommend something that is like Tairen soul? Oh boy! Okay okay, let me think. Nothing is like it, but… recently I have really really enjoyed Sarah J. Maas’ story-telling and world building and secondary characters. so it come close. The Throne of Glass series and A Court of Thorns and and Roses series. Amazing heroines. Strong male characters. The FAE!!!! Magic and creatures and a slow unfolding of the plot. Highly recommend those.
And if you have read those – then maybe Roam series by K. Adams? They get BETTER with each one. I think there were 6 in all. What an amazing story. But you really have to read them all to truly enjoy it. It gets a bit twisty and turny and you have to keep up. LOVED IT.
And… I have to put in my name, email and website every single time now too. UGH. My texting fingers are horrible.
Sarah J Maas I’ve read and adored. I’ve read a lot of Roam, but am on Rush. I don’t know why I’m not reading it. It’s the same issue as Assassin’s Blade. I know I’ll like it but I keep avoiding it.
OMG Simon is giving me anxiety!! I was not expecting all this angst. <3
Tessa – how about The King Trilogy? Or Knightsof the Black Swan? Super hot elf in that one!
Read the King trilogy. 🙂 I have Knights of the Black Swan but I haven’t read that one yet! It wins!
You haven’t read My Familiar Stranger yet??? Yippee!!! You’re gonna LERV it. Can’t wait to hear your review. Be sure to get right one. I think there are several on Kindle with that title. V. Danann is author.
Leslie, no. Actually I tried to read their first book and m….no. I couldn’t.
Fabi, a bit but not really. I just knew a lot of people had trouble with it in digital.
At least fan through the pages. How long has it been since you’ve had a book with pictures and puzzles?
I will. Is there puzzles to figure out?
LOL bev!!! Puzzled about the puzzles. 😛
Gah.
Are there puzzles?
bev, bev, bev. ROFL. You are a born storyteller, my friend. BTW, which book did I rec that you’re going to read?
I haven’t read anything by HJ Bellus. Some of them look intriguing. (I need more on my tbr like a hole in the head, but anyhoo……)
My FLT:
‘The stillness over the valley was almost absolute; the only sound was the high, pesky hum of bumblebees in the heather.’
It’s from Sweet Treason by Patricia Gaffney, a Scottish highlands bodice ripper from 1998 LOL. But it’s pretty spicy even for then! The twist is that the h is the highlander and the H is an enemy – an Englishman. *makes sign of cross with two fingers* No kilts in sight. I’m about half way in and it’s pretty good.
I love bodice rippers! Gotta go check it out.
Jan, if you look a bit, there are some seriously spicy historical. Beatrice Small is the first name that comes to mind.
Alright, I think 8m committed to this book. I started it before I got MichelleS’s recommendation.
FLT:
“Hey, shifter girl,” a human with sandy hair shouted as he leaned over the bar counter.
Burned by Magic by Jasmine Walt
I’ve had this in my KU borrows for a long time now. I really needed to see if I’d actually like it.
Let’s know how you go with it, Tessa. I like the first line.
Yeah, I didn’t discover these spicy ones when I was younger. It was Georgette Heyer all the way. A kiss on the last page! I was the most naive and innocent teenager you can imagine…. What happened?? Oh yeah, I grew up LOL.
Michelle I couldn’t get Sweet Treason on kindle. Had to get a 2nd hand PB.
Jan it’s Grace Grows. Isn’t that the one you told me about?
I’m always in for a trip to Florida!
…all flights sold out for tomorrow 🙁
Surprise Surprise on the sold out air.
But you know what? Maybe we should prepare for a get together here… start planning. 😀 That would be something so exciting to look forward to for the upcoming year. We’ll have a real life pajama party/blankie fort scrap book of memories!!! YAY US!!!
Aw man, I’m hungover and tired today, but seeing bev’s comment that I missed yesterday has me cracking up like crazy! That was priceless bev!
Yes, let’s all go visit Maryse in Florida!! And yay, I have Act Like It too!!!! I am loving, loving, loving, Royal Atlas…..just sayin’.
Jan, I am liking this book. It’s a bit different isn’t it? I’m trying to think how to describe it.
Ela if you want a great YA series Melissa Haag’s books are great, no sex. The Judgement of Six.
Oh I’m so up for a pyjama party at Maryse’s. But it’s a long way away :/ I might have to stick with virtual cocktails and get all the goss from the blog.
bev, I really liked Grace Grows. So glad you’re reading it. Yes it is different. Very sweet, I thought. And I liked that the H wasn’t mr. perfect, but still such a great guy. I think it’s the only book she’s written 🙁 I’d like to read more.
But I’m in Florida right now Maryse, LOL!
bev, you kill me! That was hilarious!!
Made it safely to Disney! Merry Christmas everyone!
*glares at everyone* you’re not having a PJ party without me!
Absolutely not, Kandace!!! You will absolutely be here!! 😀
Merry Christmas everyone! Love you all!
Counterpoints book 2 – number 14 in the list. My second book is there!!! thank you for posting it Maryse
