Click. Click. Click. Click. Click. Sh*t! I want so many of these Maryse! You need to stop it with this list, like right now… I’m so broke LOL! and I have no self control!
I’m STILL adding… it’s pure craziness!!!!!
Leslie finished It Ends With Us. I’m worried about her… 😀
Oh oh… hahahahah
OMG I was dying. At 83% she posts this: “I am very angry at all of you right now that told me to read this. My eyes are all puffy and I’m guessing I haven’t gotten to the worst of it. *shakes with sobs*”
Nope. It’s the 94% mark she should have feared… Muhahahaaaa!!
*snort*
Welcome to the Marmy club, Leslie!!! 😀
Fun, isn’t it?
Still air by Freya barker and in the ring by Rie Warren are both newly released
Thank you Lemon!
Both of those were on yesterday’s “Early bird releases” post. 😀
Yeah so I spent my day bawling and with stomach cramps.
Thanks guys!!
:-O and they call that fun
I’m having sympathy tummy twists with you Leslie
Trying to control my 1-clicker, but HAD to get Whispers and Roars!
Where is the Marmy list? I missed it and can’t find it (or I’m too impatient).
Here you go Jean.
https://www.maryse.net/books/book-recommendations/the-ultimate-marmy-book-list.html
Thank you Fabi!
Wow that Marmy list is intimidating….read most of them, but some…..nope can’t do it.
Dear Santa: All I want for Christmas is every damn book I see and more hours in the day so I can read them. Oh yeah, and a puppy!!
Whispers and the Roars is definitely meant for me!!
Lisa I can send you some books and a couple of puppies but I don’t know what I can do about hours. :-/
Ooohh I want a puppy!!!! Can I have a “Frenchie”??? :D!!!!!
Thanks Maryse. God how did I miss that!! Off to see what else I missed lol
Maryse aren’t you at your puppy quota?
Puppy for me too please.
Thanks Fabi! I think my idea of fun and the Marmy’s idea of fun are on two different wave lengths.
Who’s ever heard of too many puppies???? 😛
That’s true as long as they live with you! I don’t know if I could do more than one though. 1 puppy, 1 husband, and 1 teenager is 1 more than I can handle as it is. And really, the puppy isn’t the problem 😀
Leslie, does it comfort you at all to know marmies take great pleasure is watching non-marmies read marmy books?
*rubs hands together with glee*
*cackles*
:D!!!!!!
*shoots laser beams out eyeballs to Robin and Maryse who think they are so funny*
Seriously Maryse, throughout all my crying fits today I thought it would be awesome if I did “reaction” video like you do sometimes.
I noticed someone mentioned Wild Abandon being on sale but I haven’t seen if anyone’s mentioned Jeannine Colette’s new preorder for Wild Abandon Christmas (novella) coming out on the 21st. I don’t usually do the holiday themed books, but I loved WA!
Ahhhh, this blog always puts a smile on my face…..
Maryse’s way with words………’my kindle runneth over’
Funny book titles…… ‘Kilty Pleasure’
Funny, excited alerts in all caps……. SHE CAN’T FALL IN LOVE WITH HIM OR HE’LL LOSE HIS IMMORTALITY ALERT!!!
Funny comments….. Lisa Aiello’s Dear Santa….
Makes my day 😀
*sips coffee happily and picks up kindle to resume reading ‘Rules of Contact’*
OhMyGosh that’s a ton of great sounding books…. where to start…Hmmmm☺️
It’s funny that Maryse mentioned the Hoover book since a few of you are discussing it on GR. But someone has to explain the “no bad people” quote.
Cause …….mass murderers.
Holy %#$&!!!! This list!!
*reads Leslie’s reaction to IEWU*
Aw Leslie…*huggles* If it’s any consolation, I’m STILL wounded from that one. It’s a Marmy book for a reason. 😉 Every time I see the title or the cover, my heart clenches and then drops down into my tummy. Every. Time. See what I meant when I said I still try to rationalize and bargain over what happened in it??
Ahhhhhh, GR…it’s going to take me like six hours to get caught up on all I have missed on there lately. 😕
Whispers and the Roars is DEFINITELY my next read. Holy moly, that blurb and warning are catnip!!
Can’t even look st this list. Nope!
I’m hooked on this Time Walkers series. Just finished hook two. Going right into book three. Loving it. Totally reminds me of Outlander. How much more can they go through? And the amazing secondary characters! And his crazy love for her (so very Jamie & Claire like). Totally hooked.
Oooh. Mariana Zapata just announced her new book called Wait For It is finally coming out on this Thursday! I can’t…..wait for it….. Yeah, I know. My family gets sick of my punning as well. *gives embarrassed grin*
But seriously, it sounds goooood!
Thank you for sharing The Pawn!! <3 <3 <3
I think I’m just having a holiday moment, but Maryse, I really want to tell you how grateful I am to have found you and this crazy tribe. What you do (and really, what you all do) makes me a very happy girl. And it’s awesome to know that it’s okay to love Marmys and Dark Reads, cuz there’s a whooooole bunch of you crazies out there just like me. Thank you for all that you do for us!!
Lisa…*big hugs* I feel the same way about this place and everyone here. I have found SO many amazing books which I probably would have missed if not for the recs here, and the off-topic conversations and antics are crazy fun. And, of course, it wouldn’t have happened if not for our sweet Maryse. 😉
Lisa and Amy-ditto! Couldn’t have said it better myself! Thanks for all your hard work, Maryse!!
After DNFing TWO books in a row, I have all these Marmy books that I want to start on, but I think I have to give Whispers and the Roars a try after seeing the talk about it–but I’m going in blind!!
Awwwwwwwwwwwwwww! Are we having a huggles moment? I’d like to share the love!
Leslie, wasn’t that book sooooooooooooooo gooooooooooooood??? You know it won on GR! Yep I voted for it.
I have to agree…we do get great pleasure from watching a non Marmy reading a Marmy book and I’m technically a non Marmy (even though I read most of those books from that list and still feel Transcendence IS a Marmy book AMY!!!!!!!!!)
See it’s not just me!! I <3 evil Ela!
This blog is the reason I wrote a book so I'm pretty fond of it too 🙂
Sounds like a potential buddy read for Whispers and the Roars! I’m starting it tonight! Anyone else in?
Love you guys and appreciate you so much too!
R, thanks for that info on Wild Abandon! Love that book and Jeanine Colette!
Oh and I love evil Ela too!
R?????????? WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA? WHAT DID I DO NOW???? YOU KNOW YOU TOTALLY AGREE!
HEY JEAN *WAVES LIKE CRAZY*
So here’s the situation…I just started Where the Sun Hides (Seasons of Betrayal, #1) by Bethany-Kris and loving it but there are 3 books in the series so do I put it on hold and join the scary dark read….????
Ok I’m in…starting NOW
I do!!! That’s what I said! 😀
You’re welcome Jean! I love her too. She’s very interactive and personable on social media and I love that in writers. I can’t wait to meet her at RT in May!
Where is RT being held this year? Who’s going? Are tickets still available?
In Atlanta. I’m sure tix are still available. TONS of writers, but some that I’m familiar with are Emma Scott, Suanne Laqueur, CoHo, Alessandra Torre, Sarina Bowen, Christina Lauren, Sylvia Day, S.C Stephens, Ginger Scott, Lesley Jones 😉
I just found the list…………….WOWZA
https://www.rtconvention.com/attending-authors
R, I love that about her too…..always getting feedback from her on GR. Makes a person feel special!
OMG! I want to go to RT in May – – it’s on the East Coast!!!
HI ELA! (Yes, you should start the dark one with us…..”come over to the dark side”…….haha)!
Hello guys! Just had to come out of my hiding for a book I just finished. ‘Still Life with Strings’ by L.H. Cosway. 5*** stars for me!! It got me out of book slump but now I’m back into book slump now that it is over 🙁
Young, I LOVED THAT BOOK TOO!!
Jean, Like I said, I’m starting Whispers and the Roars so I’m in! My first buddy read! I’m so excited!!!
I’m in for Whispers and the Roars!! 😀
I’m on the fence as to if I’m going to the RT convention next year. It’s about 50-50 at this point…
I one-clicked Whispers and Roars. I hit THAT spot on Whitney, My Love that has me infuriated. But I’m enjoying the story as a whole too much to drop it. I can’t freaking BELIEVE HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ALL OF THEM!!!!!!!!! ROOOOOAAAAAARRRRRR!!!!
🙂
Okay back to my book… and then onto dark read.
Ela…no. *shakes head* I loved, loved, LOVED Transcendence and my heart aches in a beautiful way at the end, but I just can’t call it a Marmy.
And now I feel the need to hide from a potential Ela rant. 😆
Amy if I stock my room with cocktail fixins will that make a difference?
Cocktails?? WOO-HOO!!!! What a redundant question!! 😛
Awesome! See you in May! 😉
bev…this popped up on my playlist this morning and I totally thought of When We Collided. I’m still aching a bit from that ending. *rubs chest with fist*
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=esK3BUomejQ
Knowing the story behind the song doesn’t help either. “I can’t take my mind off of you…”
Jean! You know I’m no stranger to the darkness…
AMY YOU KNEW IT WAS COMING WHEN YOU TYPED THAT!!!!!!!!!!! HOW CAN YOU SAY IT’S NOT A MARMY BOOK?????? HA? IT’S GOT ALL THE FEELS, ALL THE ACHY FEELS EVEN IF BEAUTIFUL IT’S STILL GOT EM! AND POOR SWEET SWEET EHD, DIDN’T HE GIVE YOU TUMMY ACHES???? HA? HA?
Ela, sorry, but I must agree with Amy. I don’t think of Transcendence as a “Marmy” book. I consider a “Marmy” book one that will tear me apart, rip my heart out, and go through my supply of tissues from the tears. LOL! Although, yes, it did have the feels and I loved it! (I do love that you are screaming at Amy though…haha!)
JEAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HOW DARE YOU TAKE AMY’S SIDE *EVEN IF I’M WRONG YOU ARE MY BUDDY WHO HAS TO AGREE WITH ME NO MATTER WHAT*
I’m sorry Ela…..I seriously hesitated before submitting that comment…..heehee! Love you both!
“I do love that you are screaming at Amy though…haha!” <—— Of COURSE you do, LOL!!!
Ela, Jean has seen some of my epic freak outs and rants in the past. 😉 And yes, it had all kinds of wonderful as well as heart-clenching feels, but not Marmy-level feels. *looks at clock* Here, have a drink… *slides shot of Jager to Ela*
Oh you 2 SUCK! I’m going back to my buddy read of darkness that I have no clue where it’s going!
To me, Transcendence is our example of “sweet book” that we LOVED!!!! Perfectly done… exciting, and a VERY cool ending, but all in all, that book warms the cockles of my heart.
LOL.
Not a Marmy. 😉
P.S. What the heck are cockles, anyway? 😛
*giggles and tosses Ela a flashlight*
Blahahaha……okay, I’m joining Ela in the darkness…..”steals her shot of Jager”
Jean! you’re too late for the Jager, I already drank it *catches flashlight*
Damn! Amy, are you joining us in the darkness?
Hey guys! Somehow I missed that yesterday was Tuesday, haven’t scoped the whole list out yet but I had to mention this book Im reading real quick. She, the Kingdom by Olivian Pope. Anyone else read this??! Check out that blurb!! I was really intrigued especially after I briefly caught some reviews so as not to spoil. It’s probably too early to tell, but so far I’m really enjoying it!! I’m about 30ish percent, reads quick, has good writing, the story is giving me feels! It’s weird though, but still I’m looking past the weird and it has me jittery you guys!! I’m wanting to know what the heck is gonna happen, and the anticipation has me going crazy. Has a bit of a 50 shades feel so far! 🙂
And Nay (I think it was Nay), if you’re still in the mood for hot forbidding, angst and you haven’t read this, maybe give it a try!
Untamed State is on sale. This is not an easy read, but so well written. Breaks your heart and made me so angry.
I was gonna say, isn’t it a little too early for jager? But I’m 2 margaritas in, so…
Yeah, no. Transcendence is not what I’d call a marmy book. Sorry Ela 😉 It’s a lovely book, though. And quite unique in its setting. Anyone who hasn’t read it – go check it out now!
Maryse, cockles = a corruption of the Latin name for the heart’s ventricles, cochleae cordis
Ela, I WANT to agree with you. REALLY I do. But Transcendence wasn’t a Marmy read for me either. 🙁 sorry
Cockles are some kind of mollusk but this is a good description of the phrase:
https://www.dictionary.com/browse/warm-the-cockles-of-one-s-heart
So, warm cockles = not a marmy (but still wonderful ;))
I can’t WAIT for Whitney!! All of your reactions have me SO intrigued. 😀
You guys… I keep seeing “warm cookies” and “Maryse, cookies” instead of coCKles. LOL!!!
Now I want cookies. And whatever everyone’s drinking. Maybe a cookie martini?
Er…what Fabi said. *snort*
R!! It’s never to early for a drink! Unless you’re on the clock like I am. *sigh*
Maryse’s *ROAR!!* at the Whitney book…
Wow, you girls are in rare form for so early in the evening…LOL!
I’m reading Home Tears by Tijan right now… Then I have an ARC to read… Wild Abandon Christmas… pretty stoked about that one. Then…if Miss Emma Scott is ready… I’m down for Hausfrau… although Whispers and the Roar is certainly head turning…
LOL Amy. Altho I think the roaring Maryse has, ahem, matured somewhat. Perhaps the frustration of Whitney My Love has aged her prematurely?
WELL *STICKS OUT TONGUE* Y’ALL JUST ALL SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!
43% into Whispers and the Roars. It’s STILL TO EARLY if y’all can believe it to make any assessments….we’re still trying to figure what the heck is going on.
Yes, Ela, LisaA, and I have been having a ball on GR trying to figure out what the deal is with Whispers and the Roars. I think I’ve got it, but I’m still not positive.
Would you believe I’ve NEVER had a martini? I have a list of things I’m going to eat and drink after I’m allowed again-like the opposite of a bucket list, maybe a re-birth list, and with food/drink–and I’m going to put martini on it. What type should I have??
That spot! Ooooh! It makes me so angry. That spot made it so I didn’t like the book as near as much as everyone else. It was just… No. And yep, I still finished it, because the story was so good, but Something Wonderful and Paradise will always be the two I recommend most.
I have been in a happy reading mood. I’m not reading anything currently. I have a packed book that I might, but I haven’t even touched Home Tears or Dollars. The season is obviously influencing me. 🙂
Tessa I think that’s the first time I’ve heard you say you’re not reading anything.
Sorry I missed all the lovin’ earlier.
*big belated huggles to everyone*
I’ve been busy today catching up on life after yesterday’s It Ends With Us sob fest took over.
I’m actually making a list of best and worst of 2016. Will post when finished.
Good luck to all reading Whispers & Roars…that sounds super creepy.
Leslie–I don’t think it’s creepy. Just mysterious because the reader is clueless.
Tasha–thanks for the recommendation! I will definitely check that out! But what I want to know is, how does that author expect to get their name out there and sell any books? There’s no info about her/him on GR, Amazon, FB or anywhere that I can find. No web page, no nothing. The title doesn’t really tell you what the book is about and the blurb is one vague sentence, so how can anyone even know if they want to read it or not?? IF they happen to come across it.
Rofl I know, right? Instead I just did the window cling thingy. This house WILL be festive!
Whoa.
Look at the Marmies. All, no your book can’t join my club.
It’s too nice.
And doesn’t wear the right shoes.
LOL bev!!!
Now you make “Marmies” sound like “Mean Girls”
*snort*
“You can’t sit with us!!!”
Sidenote: That’s not true Ela. You can TOTALLY sit with us, and snuggle with us in our Marmy blankie fort. :D!!! You can even bring Transcendence for a re-read. That book was awesome.
baaahahahaha ROTFL *gasp* hahahaha
Nay, I dk the one sentence blurb is what had intrigued me. That and the reviews of how great it was even with her being a first time author. But also how everyone says it’s so weird. Seriously out of curiosity I just read the sample and decided I had to know more. You’ll see what’s weird about it just in that much. I’m about halfway through now and my eyes constantly bulge, my heart races, I’m like wth, seriously, omg I bet I know what’s gonna happen, and I can’t help but laugh too. Never had I really read a book about *this thing* I can say that for sure. And it’s super fast. If I had the time I probably could’ve been done by now and I just started it today. So far I’d say it’s a guilty pleasure read for me and it’s a little thrilling too, anticipating what’s next. But seriously, the subject matter!!! LOL is all I can say right now. Maybe the author is relying on word of mouth for sales? I dk 😉
Tasha-maybe so . Well, you sold me, so I’ll give it a try next! Thanks!
bev, bev, bev… We don’t discriminate based on shoes…it’s more about what color nail polish they’ve got on and whether or not they like booze…
Oh bev, that comment up the is what makes me love you! LOL!!!!
The books…I meant the books lining up to be in the death club, only to be denied, of course LOL! Bad joke, obviously funnier in my head, and way funnier if I hadn’t hit submit on accident.
Just went to my middles band concert… Squealing musical instruments for an hour. 5-6th graders… It was sorta painful- speaking of drinks… Who is the bartender tonight?
Guys!!! I went to a glass works shop and got a Full Tilt experience today!! I posted it on my IG but not sure if I can link it. It’s robinhillwrites. So freaking cool.
I haven’t read Full Tilt…so I have no idea what the Full Tilt experience is… *hides from the peanut onslaught that I’m sure is coming*
I promise the Full Tilt experience is spoiler free!!
Amy, When We Collide worked out ok for you?
I liked it pretty well. Just maybe wished more in depth, more day to day stuff around the town.
:O :O!!!! Omg this book!!!! I’m at 77% for all you angsty lovers looking for something a little different try this book!!
73% done with Whispers and the Roars and I love it. It is labeled as dark, but I am not getting dark. I am getting a hella amazing love between the two main characters. It is a plot twist I have seen once before…but handled so beautifully. This had to be a tough writing experience for the author.
Yeah, what Lisa said! But I’m just at 65%. I think we lost Ela! (for tonight, anyway)
Finished! I’m not sure what my rating will be yet, though leaning towards 4ish stars. I really enjoyed it, it was entertaining for sure and I became quickly absorbed in the drama and angst. The writing was really good, and I liked that it was a quick read bc sometimes I don’t want to spend a week on a book, but also it moved too fast and skipped over some character development and connection. It was hot, if not kind of weird. Lol All in all Id definately recommend it and think a lot of you here would like it!
Sounds good to me! Thanks, Tasha!
Hoo hoo hoo. Mariana Zapata’s new book is LIVE on amazon!! (In Australia, anyway). *happy little dance* Kulti was one of my fav reads this year. The new one’s called ‘Wait For It’. I’m dropping everything and hunkering down with my kindle in a blankie fort where no one else can find me. *cracks out a mad cackling laugh and runs to get a blankie*
Bev, you are too funny!!
I have made my best/worst list of 2016 if anyone is interested.
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/18388041-best-and-worst-you-read-in-2016
Love the list Leslie! Didn’t even think about doing it on GR. Good idea!
Let me know if you read it! I want to see what you think! 🙂
R, I like to do that stuff on blog’s group in GR because I can link the book. It makes me crazy in here when you guys talk about a book and I have to leave blog, search for book on GRs, etc. Plus the option of spoiler tags helps. If Maryse wants to make a post of all readers faves of 2016, I can email list or whatever so it’s easier.
I love seeing everyone’s best/worst. It’s kind of funny when my worst is someone else’s fave.
Yes Leslie please email me your list (and if you have any comments to add to your choices) and I’ll dedicate a post to it. 😀
Nay, I thought the same thing about those “She” books and their author….now THAT’S Creepy!
I’m assuming bev’s got my back with wanting to stick a book under the Marmy category but being ROYALLY REJECTED?
And yes, Whispers and the Roars is not creepy at all just very mysterious. But I know of a very creepy book that it’s sequel just came out (have not read either one). BR anyone???
Tasha, I see there is a book 2 so I’m curious if there is a cliffy.
No cliffy…just MORE
Ok, out of curiosity, again (I like mystery ;)), I checked fb for this author and I found her page.
https://m.facebook.com/olivianpope/
Dilemma.
I just started another on my color tbr, but the new MZ book I’d out. Blurb doesn’t give much a way, does it?
I’m tempted. I either love or don’t her books. Hmm.
Anyone jumping in?
Wow, this list Maryse. So many I want to one-click.Have to read all comments when have more time!
Also, Mariana Zapata just released a new book- Wait For It.
R. didn’t know there was going to be a Christmas novella for WA-loved that book!!
Ooooh, a new MZ? Mine! 😀 I finally did start a book and loving the story so far.

A Promise of Fire by Amanda Bouchet
Thanks, Tasha! When I search for O. Pope on FB, I kept getting the character from Scandal, and I didn’t see the ‘search instead for Olivian Pope’ right under it–duh!
I’m going to read it as soon as I can buy it. Right now I’m reading KU freebies or books I already have (because I have about a million!)
Ela–I saw you and Lisa talking about the creepy book on GR, so I posted that I wanted to BR with y’all, and she suggested we set up a thread, so it’s there now (I didn’t want to keep hi-jacking Leslie’s thread–sorry, Leslie!)

Aaaaannnd…I’m crying again. I think I may be re-sending you my top ten Maryse.
Ooooh R. I LOVE your reaction to Sand and Ash. THIS makes me happy! 😀 Or sad for you… and happy for it sounding SO gooooood!!!
R!!!! I loved that book! So happy you are reading it!
FLT: The sick stench of stale cigarette and beer linger in the air. (Whispers and the Roars). This book is not what I was expecting….not really dark….
Well… I’m a brat, my FLT, is from my ARC… “New York City.” Wild Abandon Christmas by Jeannine Colette
Bev, re: MZ, I only read Kulti and disliked (I was bored silly) but want to try something else since everyone raves about her. Do you have a favorite?
FLT –
“This has to be a joke.” Sweet Cheeks by K Bromberg (e-reading this one)

Pretty Stolen Dolls, Ker Dukey and K. Webster
For all the triller/spooky book lovers, Bird Box by Josh Malerman is on sale for 1.99 from 9.99 through Dec. 31st!
Does anyone who bought The Bird and the Sword know if it’s lendable? And if so, would like to lend it to me? I’m in the mood to finally tackle that one but I’ve bought so many books lately and I’m still buying Xmas gifts yet so I’d like to hold off as much as possible on buying more until after Xmas. I’d be happy to return the favor!
Also, Nay or if anyone is interested She, the Kingdom is lendable if you’d like, I can send it to you!
Ladies (and gentlemen, if any are lurking), Whispers and the Roars is in the bag, and it was amazing. For anyone who fears it as a dark read or because it has triggers, please don’t. The triggers aren’t really in your face or over the top. It is, at it’s very core, an unconditional love story.
FLT – Same as Ela’s
“DADDY ALWAYS TOLD US TO be careful.”
Pretty Stolen Dolls, Ker Dukey and K. Webster
Lisa I’m so excited! I one-clicked it and shall start it tonight!!! I think Amy’s reading it too, so yay me and the buddy-read. Who else is reading Whispers & Roars?
And Ela – did you see my response, and more importantly Nay’s (which is way more thought out and eloquent) on GR Thread?
Tasha, I’m getting ready to do a buddy read of Pretty Stolen Dolls with Ela and Lisa (and anyone else who wants to join), but if no one else asks about it, I’d love to borrow it after that. Maybe the beginning of next week?
Annnnd, FLT — same as Ela’s and Lisa’s:
“DADDY ALWAYS TOLD US TO be careful.”

Tasha, I have The Bird and the Sword, what’s your email?
Well fudge that…it looks like it’s not lendable.
Or I should say the copy I bought that was still 3.99 is not lendable or I lent it already…sorry.
Ok, I’m on GR as Natasha, I could send you a friend request and you can let me know when you’re ready or I’ll catch ya on here next week!
Thanks Ela! My email is [email protected], let me know if there’s something you’d like in return some time!
Oh, boo! Thanks anyway
OMG bev…LOL!!!!!!!
Now see, if we included books from EVERY emotional level on the Marmy list then some people would skip out on them altogether…there had to be some distinction. 😉
We may exclude BOOKS from the Marmy list but we never exclude friends. The more to snuggle with the better!!
Leslie, Kulti, LOL.
One of my favorites last year. I love love love a slow build& burn. Plus, Sal was a great heroine Big plus for me.
I remember Pretty Stolen Dolls…really good and creeeeepy.
Speaking of creepy, Her Master’s Courtesan traumatized me but what did I just click? Her Master’s Christmas. ‘Cause I’m a masochist like that. Aiden is scary. *shudder*
FLT
“When my eyes are closed, the monster can’t see me.” ~ Whispers and the Roars by K Webster
I think I’m starting Whispers and Roars tonight… but then there’s that other “Marmy-looking” book that someone just recommended on the Friday List and now I MUST!!!!
I loved Kulti and The Wall of Winnipeg and Me, two of my favorites ever! I wasn’t a huge fan of Rhythm, Chord and Malykhin or Under Locke. I wasn’t head over heels for Lingus but I liked it more than the other two. I’ll wait to hear feedback on the latest.
Wall was good, just not up to Kulti. I do not think I made it past the first chapter of Lingus. Too raunchy, lol.
bev said raunchy and now I want to read it… LOL! I liked Kulti, didn’t read WoW… But now I want to read Lingus LOL!
Screeeeeeeeeeeeeeeech!!!!
::::too raunchy:::::
Gimme!!!
I bought Kulti and Winnipeg when they were on sale due to everyone’s recs, but now that I’ve discovered I’m not a fan of slow burn I’m not sure if I’ll ever read them :-/
I have seriously mixed feelings about the new TJR. I collect all her books…and this one is going to stick out like a sore thumb. I know she’s getting bigger, and this cover (to me anyway) is proof of that, as is the **no paperback** release, and I’m super stoked for her, but…what about me???!!
I hate raunchy. I’m with you bev!
Lol well it does involve a porn convention, but I liked the humor
Grey…oh Grey!!!!!!!!! We need your moderator skills on GR’s….We NEED an avatar, hence we added Maryse’s picture but need you to actually place it in the right place.
I loved Under Locke and WoW was good too but Kulti I could not get into.
Kulti, Lingus and Under Locke were 5,4 & 3 stars for me respectively.
The heroine in Kulti is awesome!
I’m not a fan of the slow burn either R, but I definitely liked Kulti better than WoW. (Ela, we are just not in agreement this week….lol….but normally we are book sisters!)
Did y’all finish Whispers?? CRAAZZZYY!!!
Maybe I’ll join the book read of Pretty Stolen Dolls
I guess I need to check out Lingus too…..I don’t mind raunchy….haha!
Yeah! WTH Jean???? Loved Whispers! Already started Dolls…
I’m stuck at work…I’ll try and do it from my phone! LOL!
I think I might not be a fan of slow burn either. I’m not sure…I don’t have an issue if it takes a while for couple to get together…as long as there is good sexual tension AND it’s not boring. If story drags, is too repetitive or overly descriptive, I can’t deal.
yes! What Leslie said.
FLT:
‘I woke up screaming.’ Wait For It by Mariana Zapata.
I’m 45% in and really liking it. But, be warned, it IS a slow burn like Kulti and WoW. I FLOVED those two books, esp. Kulti. But I can see how some people got bored with it. But I loved the characters and was happy to dig deep into to their stories for the great payoff in the end. I didn’t really like the other MZ books as much.
Wait For It seems to be similar in style to Kulti and Wow, although it’s a different kind of story from those two. The h is Diana Cassilis, best friend of Vanessa (from WoW) and a relative (cousin maybe?) of Sal from Kulti. But it’s completely a standalone. You gradually get to know the great characters in the book as their stories unfold and relationships develop. Diana is just lovely, and she’s got a heckuva lot to deal with but she does it so well. And there are lots of funny, sweet moments.
I’m glued to this book and have dropped the other ones I was reading till I’m done with this one. So far I highly recommend it to anyone who liked Kulti or WoW or who appreciates slow burn and well-written characters with integrity.
Wait there are people who don’t like sloooow burn books?
Gasp.
Hey, does Maryse want her face as your mascot?
What what whaaaaaa? My face as a mascot? This could be fun! LOL!
Oh, sounds good to me Jan!! I love a good slow burn and especially those two books of hers!
Did Life of Anna make the Marmy list? Darkest thing I’ve ever read. Shudders. Or is it “make you cry” books?
FLT:
“BENJAMIN EMPTIED THE last of his ale and set his tankard down, his eyes scanning the inn for a glimpse of the brown-haired serving girl.” Of Vice & Virtue. Time Walkers book 3.
I don’t think Amy or I read Life of Anna…
And basically… I think it’s pretty much any book Amy and I have devoured and that freaked us OUT. Dark ways… or sad ways, or shocking-exciting twist ways. 😀
Some seem gentle but are so clever and intense in emotions that we become a part of the story and it affects us as if it were real,
some took a crazy turn that we didn’t see coming, and
some are complete mind f**ks. But it has to be well written, captivating, and one we can’t stop thinking about and/or talking about.
If there’s “shock-value” (scary or sad or twist-wise) it has to have merit.
It didn’t MichelleS, but I was surprised The Tied Man and a couple of others made the list. I guess I separate dark reads from regular tear jerkers in my mind.
My eyes hurt too much to look… did these make Marmy list? original Sinners Series, Bad Things (Krylov), The Tied Man, Carnage?
I think the Marmy list basically consists of anything Maryse and/or Amy read and lost their sh!t over.
Hahaha! Bev, you crack me up. I swear, you’re really not a writer?
Don’t mind a slow-burn, as long as the story doesn’t totally drag. No slow-burn for the sake of a slow-burn, it has to work for the story.
FLT:
“I woke up screaming.” Wait for It by Mariana Zapata.
hmmm I’m pretty sure TTM and another of Krylov’s did. But not Bad Things. 🙁
I guess I don’t really consider those Marmy books. They’re darker. Not like Rainfall or The Man I Love which are pure burning emotion. Those others Michelle, are darker and the emotion comes more from the scenes than from the people. Then again, so does TTM. Gah! I don’t know. Maybe we all have different opinions of what a Marmy read is.
I think the Marmy reads are tearjerkers, rip your heart out, and more than likely, death books!
TTM, Life of Anna, After, etc…..just DARK (but intriguing)!
Bev, you crack me up as usual!
*grabs MichelleS and yanks her behind the couch with me* apparently we aren’t allowed to say the C word. I don’t know why…but shhh! Wanna buddy read it with me, after I read my current read…and Hausfrau? LOL?!?
Is the C-word Carnage?
What bev and Maryse said…EXACTLY what they said!! 😀
Nope, didn’t read Life of Anna (yet) or Original Sinners (yet) but I would definitely put After as a Marmy…is it on the list? I can’ remember…
And he C book…no. Just no.
Well *shakes head* I still feel this Marmy group is a Mafia
*snort*
And *that* is why I made us cute shirts *nods*
I’m in line for one of Grey’s t-shirts!
And yes, that is the C-word…’round here and according to Ela, it is the equivalent of the *other* C-word. 😛
Seattle skyline last night with snow falling…absolutely beautiful. I think now would be a good time to start Bared to You since I’m getting Fifty Shades feels from last night’s scenery. 😉
MARYSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THERE’S A REASON THAT BOOKS IS REFERRED TO AS THE BOOK THAT SHALL NOT BE NAMED OR THE C BOOK! YOU JUST HAD TO SAY THAT FULL TITLE! STUPID ASS BOOK AND STUPID SUCKY CHARACTERS!
*whooooops*
Ela is using BIG LETTERS….
*runs and hides and giggles*
Everybody needs to join Pretty Stolen Dolls buddy read and it’s sequel of course. Amy, will you be reading he sequel?
And Yes…the C-book is also called the C&nt book or the characters are stupid C*cks book.
Maryse, I hope you love Whispers and the Roars! I LOVED IT! I’m reading Pretty Stolen Dolls now….
I’m “officially” starting Whispers and Roars tonight. Yesterday was a tad too crazy, and I didn’t get any reading time in. 🙁
Ela…I probably won’t be reading the sequel. I liked PSD, but that kind of story I prefer to be wrapped up in one book. Totally a “me” thing. I’ll live vicariously through you guys though!
Amy, I can’t wait to hear your reaction to Whispers! So, did you not like PSD? I’m at 40%
All the talk about the C word book just has me intrigued and wanting to read it to see what all the fuss is about. I have the whole box set!
EVERYONE NEEDS TO READ Pretty Stolen Dolls (Pretty Stolen Dolls #1) by Ker DukeY AND K. Webster
JEAN! WHY AREN’T YOU IN THE GR BR POSTING?????
GO AHEAD JEAN READ THE C-BOOK, I’M SURE YOU’LL LOVE IT
1) I LOVED the C word book. The angst I felt reminded me of how I felt with Thoughtless (for different reasons). Please don’t hate me!! What’s up with that, anyway? Can someone share the Reader’s Digest version of why it’s ‘the book that shall not be named’?
2) Maryse and Amy (and anyone else who’s reading it)–you should post your comments on the buddy read for W&R on the thread on GR–it’s a great book to talk about while you’re reading it, because you have to be so careful not to give anything away! lol Ela, Jean, Lisa A. and I all loved it!
3) Yes, Jean–why aren’t you with us on the PSD thread on GR???
Nay I don’t Goodreads much… LOL!
I “comments” here (and on Facebook) but mostly here. It’s hard sometimes, to keep up with multi-discussioning. 😉
*snort*
Ummm….I didn’t know there was one.
Maryse, I will send you the last with added comments when I have a chance. 🙂
Funny thing about “c-word” book…Back in the day I thought I was all bad-a$$ reading dark or angsty books…I had “c-word” all lined up in my TBR, then….I realized I am a big, fat, wuss and started questioning some of my TBR choices. In comes Ela and you can imagine what she told me….so I promptly removed from TBR never to be thought of again.
Jean, I liked PSD but that’s not the sort of story I want drawn out over two books. I prefer it to be all wrapped up in one book, and there’s also the whole MC being a detective which I’m not terribly fond of. No real reason, just a personal taste thing, ya know?
Also, the C-word book…it was just TOO much angst and drama and emotion for me, to the point where I was just DONE.

Yep! I saved Leslie from THAT THING! And what Amy said…it was just TOO MUCH OF EVERYTHING IN THAT C-BOOK…
*giggle* too much everything in the C book?!? *snicker* I really am going to have to read it now… just you know… #ForReasons… I can’t have my fellow book blog buddies suffering through this one alone!
See Grey, that’s how I feel…..I need to know…..
And while you’re reading the C-book, can you please add an Avatar pic to our GR group?
Yep, Ela, I just did!
Grey and Jean–remember, I LURVED the C book, so you may actually like it. It was one of my favorites of whatever year it came out *because* of how angsty it was. That’s my kind of tear my guts up and spit them out angst!!
Maryse–yes, it is!! Definitely!
I read the C book. Hated-loved it. Read the follow up too. It’s just not my first choice for reading pleasure. I’m a HEA person. I’ll go to hell & back, but, dammit, I want my HEA.
LOL Nay!I even said in a status update when I was reading Thoughtless that it smelled a little like the C book! But that wasn’t a good status update. That was the point where I ALMOST DNF’d.
So guess what!!?? I’m In Sulphur Springs and I just drove by CoHo’s bookstore and it’s SOOOOOO cute!! I couldn’t take pics because I was driving, but it’s in this adorable little downtown area and everything is lit up for Christmas! Tomorrow night I’m just going to park and meander about with my camera.
R, SHAME ON YOU!!! Thoughtless does NOT smell!!
Tell Colleen Hoover I said hello and she owes me therapy from IEWU.
I will Leslie! I’m going to be having that same convo with Amy Harmon!
