in Latest Book Releases

Happy new release day, and… *squeeee!!!* Brand new contemporary romance by J.R. Ward on the list!!”The Bourbon Kings” is LIVE!!! Okay so from the blurb, she’s part of the “estate staff” for the wealthy family of a huge bourbon company, fell in love with one of them… and they had a bitter break up. He’s back at the estate, a few years later, with his wife. OUCH!!

PLUS! Some of today’s highlights that have blurbs that are already jolting me? EASY! Racing the Sun (one of my fave authors + she becomes a nanny to 2 bratty kids of a moody ex-racer), Pretty Baby (psych thriller and the blurb DEFINITELY got me. It’s the follow up to “The Good Girl” and she’s on a train and sees a desolate looking woman and a baby, and brings them home with her… Eeeeeep!!!) and Tattered on My Sleeve (biker book and they are in love until something happens where now they can’t stop trying to hurt each other – sounds tumultuous!!) and A Real Cowboy Knows How to Kiss (I don’t usually gravitate to cowboy books, but I LOVED her description… someone nobody ever noticed before, and he’s a prisoner that does), and Forever Bound (hired to be the “girlfriend” to famous people, and her latest contract is about to run out…) and A Dream for Love (she wins a stay at a Hollywood star’s vacation home, and he shows up, and wants her to leave), and Mate (released by her kidnapper/master that she loves… and now is alone with a baby)…

And there are so many more that I highlighted below!

P.S. Let me know if I’m missing any or if you loved any (from this list or elsewhere).

For those going on a road trip soon, or maybe you’ve got some projects that require both hands this weekend but still allows you to “listen”… check out the free audible trial + 2 free ebooks deal —>

  • AND! Here’s the fun-tool again! —> Find out which of YOUR Kindle books are available as audiobooks at a BARGAIN-PRICE! <— This thing is so cool (Amazon calls it “Matchmaker“)! It’s an Amazon feature, that scans your Kindle books and will list all of the ones you have that are also available as an audiobook at a discounted price (not normal audiobook prices). This way, you can switch back and forth, seamlessly between your ebooks and your audiobooks. VERY COOL!

I read it in less than 24 hours and I work 9 hours a day with 1 hour of commute time total. The cliffhanger is absolutely insane. I am almost upset that I read it without the 2nd book being released, but not quite. I would recommend that to anyone who is looking for something quick to read. 1. The Paper Swan by Leylah Attar – August 4th 2015 <— Look what’s up for pre-order and coming out on August 4th (and super-bargain priced)! I loved this author’s other angsty romance, and I hear this one is completely different. Even though the blurb makes it sound like one, it is NOT a love triangle. It sounds so crazy-good!!! “They say it takes 21 days to form a habit. They lie. For 21 days she held on. But on Day 22, she would have given anything for the sweet slumber of death. I love Downton Abbey & so interested…….but think I’ll wait.
Is anyone watching Poldark? I’ve seen the old one & have the first two books. Really want to read them. I was able to watch the first new one, really good. But have missed the other eps so far. Can’t wait for it to come out on dvd.

bev July 28, 2015 at 11:26 AM

I just read a favorites so far list. And Whoot have a couple already to read. Like Him & The Frenchman.

Shane July 28, 2015 at 11:41 AM

Dr. Seuss… Stap!! Haha…I want to read HIM, but I want to hear more reviews on it first…

Tessa July 28, 2015 at 11:47 AM

The Rocker books in one collection? Everyone, buy that series! The Rocker who Loves Me is so perfect sweet, and the rest of the series is super good too!

Another Jennifer Estep book? *puts it on her wishlist* And, the Dragon Mystic? *also now on her list* Too many good books this week.

Every Last Breath by Jennifer Armentrout is definitely paranormal. It’s got demons and gargoyles. *grins* Oooh, Amy! The series is complete! Read it!

MichelleS July 28, 2015 at 11:59 AM

A Real Cowboy Knows How to Kiss sounds….. interesting…… I love a second chances story.

But for now I am sticking with Wild Reckless… after much squirreling I finally decided on a book, so I don’t want to get derailed now.

Is it bad that Bourbon Kings isn’t even tempting me a little???

Cher July 28, 2015 at 12:22 PM

Lucky’s Choice by Jamie Begley was released early. Love these bikers.

Fabi July 28, 2015 at 12:22 PM

I one clicked Reborn. It sounds intriguing and its really inexpensive. But it doesn’t sound PNR at all. I had Him and Crossover pre-ordered. I’m still debating Bourbon King because, ouch, the price. But wasn’t there another PNR from from a popular author released today? I have to go back and look through Friday’s or last Tuesday’s list.

Anne July 28, 2015 at 12:34 PM

Got The Bourbon Kings and Racing the Sun :D So excited! Hope TBK lives up to my expectations.

Anne July 28, 2015 at 12:39 PM

Is Reborn PNR? From the blurb it sounds like a CR.

MichelleS Wild Reckless is so good!

bev July 28, 2015 at 1:03 PM

Fabi let me know if you squirrel to Him. Like I said I just saw it on someone’s best of list. You know one of those halfway through the year one’s.
MichelleS, another was the Frenchman. I don’t remember buying it, but looks fun. Alpha rugby player, I think. Anyway sounds a little like you’ve been looking for. If it looks good to you after your current, let me know. It’d be nice to read one I already have, lol.
Oh, Cheryl too. Pretty sure he is or was a rugby player. So sports.

Fabi July 28, 2015 at 1:17 PM

Reborn definitely sounds CR to me, and really good.

Bev, I want to read Him. But I’ve been sneak reading The Locker Room today. It’s on my phone, not paper based like the other two I have started at home. Anyways, I can’t remember who here recommended it. But…I am absolutely heartbroken at 40%. I only thought I was heartbroken at the beginning. Man, where this has gone and is going. I’m not sure I can take it. What is it with you ladies loving these heart shattering stories? They break me. Just…break me.

Maryse July 28, 2015 at 1:21 PM

Yeah Fabi it was Jennifer L Armentrout’s. I just added it. :D

Maryse July 28, 2015 at 1:22 PM

Thanks for updating me on Reborn, I just switched it to the contemporary section. Now I gotta check out it’s blurb!! :D

bev July 28, 2015 at 1:25 PM

Fabi, if I start…….Ok when I start Him, I’ll have 3 books started too. Not sure why as I like the other two Alot. I’m a little different than you, in that a lot of times if I’m out reading I like a book book. Maybe because when on ereader I sometimes feel like others try and look overt shoulder, weird & paranoid I know. But I do bring it everywhere and read it out too.

Maryse July 28, 2015 at 1:38 PM

Thank you Cher. I added it! :D

Grey July 28, 2015 at 2:39 PM

Whyyyy are there only so many hours in the day??? *whine*

The Bourbon Kings & Wicked Fall are the two top pics for me today! The two by Mary Kubica look amazing too… oh ooomph, my feels alert is going off with Racing the Sun, although I haven’t read the first in this series yet either.

fabi July 28, 2015 at 2:51 PM

Maryse, I thought it was Kresley Cole or someone like that. I have to go look on last week’s threads…

Amy July 28, 2015 at 2:56 PM

I want to read the Bourbon Kings ’cause holy moly it sounds like all kinds of tummy twisting! But does anyone know if it is part of a series? I’m feeling kinda ambivalent lately when it comes to series…

I want, want, WANT Before We Were Strangers! Next week, right? Oooooh, that author worked me over with Sweet Thing and all of it’s emotions! :D

Slow work day so I’m going to make a Sephora run (yay!), make taco Tuesday supper with apple margaritas (yum!) and then settle down and read… *slumps shoulders* I have no idea. :?

Lauren July 28, 2015 at 2:57 PM

Saw Love Hurts on the list… is a MUST READ!!! I’d say, hands down my favorite book of the year so far. I’ve been making my “Favorite book list” to send for Maryse’s Saturday post & that was the first book I put on it.

Amy July 28, 2015 at 3:00 PM

I saw that about JA’s Dark Element series, Tessa! *happy dance* And I hear the love triangle is pretty brutal in that there isn’t one guy who is better than the other. ;)

Maryse, just wanted to give you big hugs for all of the work you put into these lists for us. *squeezes Maryse*

bev July 28, 2015 at 3:01 PM

Fabi, i went back to look through that fav list and when checking on a book saw it was third in a series. Any way checked out one and thought might be for you, one clicked myself.

Tasha J July 28, 2015 at 3:04 PM

Great list! I’ve added 7 to my overwhelming tbr list. :) But I think I’m most excited for Pretty Baby, I loved The Good Girl and I had no idea she was even writing a sequel! Also curious about All We Have Is Now by Lisa Schroeder, no reviews yet but sounds intriguing. Its so hard to find time to read, there just aren’t enough hours or enough energy in the day, especially with two littles running around, BUT I did manage one last week and I really enjoyed it – With A Twist by Staci Hart. I’m now a fan of the man bun Haha!! And I’m currently reading Jezebel, I’m at 62% right now and hope to finish in the next cpl days. Knowing that there’s this huge twist at the end is driving me nuts, I have tons of crazy ideas as to what’s going to happen and I can’t wait to see if I’m right. The anticipation has me on pins and needles right now!! Lol

Tessa July 28, 2015 at 3:08 PM

Amy, it’s so brutal that the author herself couldn’t pick one. I can’t, and you know I normally go for the bad guy, but they are both have equally awesome and jerk like moments. One because he’s evil, the other one because he’s good. Does that make sense? Insanely awesome.

Maryse, Ilona Andrew’s Magic Shift comes out on 8/4 too. *grins HUGE*

Amy July 28, 2015 at 3:10 PM

Tasha, *please* come back after you finish Jezebel…I’m loving the reactions from everyone who reads that book! And don’t skip the novella. Just trust us. ;)

bev July 28, 2015 at 3:13 PM

Ok this sounds really good. Not out yet & a bit $$.

Jean July 28, 2015 at 3:14 PM

Why does The Bourbon Kings have to be $13.99. I got an actual sample in the mail from the author and it was a tease! I think I will wait for some reviews.

Is it me, or do these lists get longer and longer each week?

Maryse July 28, 2015 at 3:27 PM

Sephora and apple Martinis???

Maryse July 28, 2015 at 3:27 PM

Fabi did you find out yet? :D

Maryse July 28, 2015 at 3:28 PM

Oh Lauren I can’t wait for your list!!!!

Maryse July 28, 2015 at 3:29 PM

Oh boy.. now suddenly Love Hurts is at the top of my NEXT READ list…

Maryse July 28, 2015 at 3:29 PM

And yessssssssss

My TBR lists are so full I just invented a new one. LOL!! “NEXT READ LIST”

Maryse July 28, 2015 at 3:31 PM

Okay Tessa i’ll add it. :D

Maryse July 28, 2015 at 3:34 PM

Yes Jean, I say that each week… the amount of releases is mind boggling. And this is just in the “romance” categories. Can you imagine ALL books released each Tuesday?

Tasha J July 28, 2015 at 3:35 PM

Absolutely will let you guys know when I finish! Some of my ideas are pretty outlandish lol. Also not really book related but sometimes when I’m not in the mood to read I get into a little kick on Netflix. I almost never get to finish a series, but a month ago maybe I watched a show called Star-Crossed with Aimee Teegarden from Friday Night Lights. I never finished, I stopped a cpl episodes to the end bc I saw it cancelled so I can pretend it ended however I want. Lol, anyway it reminded me a lot of Jennifer Armentrouts lux series! And then a couple weeks ago I gave Bitten a shot. At first I thought corny acting, ok story. But I got past the acting and started really getting into it and found out it was based on the Otherworld series by Kelly Armstrong. It’s renewed for season 3 so I’m gonna continue watching :D Anybody read that series?? Any shows you guys recommend for Netflix?

Maryse July 28, 2015 at 3:36 PM

OMG speaking of Netflix… someone just emailed me a recommendation for a movie I HAD to watch on it… so I’m looking it up.

Amy July 28, 2015 at 3:38 PM

Aw Tessa, I’m going to have to read the series before I accidentally see a spoiler!

Her not being able even as the author to choose a guy reminds me of an indie YA PNR series I followed for a couple of years when I first rediscovered my love of reading back a few years ago. The books were crazy long and soooooo ridiculously over the top, but I’m sure y’all remember those days of falling for books so easily before becoming more, um, critical I guess. Anyways, she created a love triangle between the h and these two cousins then threw in another guy (some kind of supernatural specter being) and the whole love quadrangle spanned the course of the nine books only to have the author end it with her getting all THREE of them! The heck?? She was told she would be with one, then in the future when that guy died the second guy would come back to life so she could be with him, then when THAT guy died then she would spend eternity with the specter guy…and she would never age! I was SO mad at the author for trying to appease everyone with that ending. I still want my time back that I spent on that series, and I will *never* read the subsequent NA series that follows them in college.

Yeah, guess I’m the one who took the bitchy pills today. ;) But dang if that didn’t feel good to finally rant about it!

Maryse July 28, 2015 at 3:41 PM

Should I do it? Should I watch a movie? *gasp* Instead of reading…???

Sadie says:

“I just wanted to let you know that I just watched a movie on Netflix that I thought would be right up your alley. It’s called IN YOUR EYES.

I know you don’t often review movies, and this isn’t a review request by any means (I have literally NOTHING to do with this film) but I just thought you’d like it! It’s a love story, but it’s not something I’ve ever seen before and I LOVED it!

If you haven’t already seen it, I highly recommend it!”

Wanna watch it with me right now you guys? I’m doin’ it!!!

Tasha J July 28, 2015 at 3:56 PM

I had to look up In Your Eyes and I thought ooh this sounds good!….wait, I’ve already seen it. Lol, I can’t remember how much I liked it though, but it did keep my attention the entire movie! I did that a cpl days ago with my familiar stranger, looked it up bc it sounded good and says I have it. I don’t remember a single thing about it though…

Amy July 28, 2015 at 4:01 PM

That movie DOES sound good! You know what, I think watching a movie (especially one like that!) is perfect when in a book funk because we can get some – I said *some* – of the feels we crave while reading but without the hours-long commitment.

Speaking of feels…okay ladies, bear with me in my ramblings and off-topic stuff but I had a venti caramel macchiato with an extra shot (that’s four shots total!) and I’m so wound up it’s not even funny. Like, leg-bouncing wound up. Literally. Anyways, this video…THIS VIDEO. It packed some of our favorite book feels into a 3-minute video. It made my heart HURT but I want the song now.

I gotta stop running my mouth here or I’ll never get out of the house…

Amy July 28, 2015 at 4:03 PM

“I was gonna marry you…” *sob*

Okay, I’m going…I’m going…

Maryse July 28, 2015 at 4:16 PM

I was thinking the same thing Amy!!!

Just a couple of hours of investment and I get a little “mini-book” on tv!

Maryse July 28, 2015 at 4:17 PM

Okay as soon as my video is over i’m watching yours Amy.

Tasha J July 28, 2015 at 4:20 PM

Amy!! That video was heartbreaking, but I love the song! Thanks for that! Caramel macchiato is my go to Starbucks drink. The iced is new to me and my new guilty pleasure…no way I could handle all that caffeine tho, decaf for me all the way! Hold back the river by James Bay is my current obsession.

Tessa July 28, 2015 at 4:22 PM

Bev, that does look good, and I did love her Black Wing series.

Amy, there was an NA series as a follow up? What was the name? I swear that ending gave me a huh? moment, but darn if I don’t want to continue reading the series. Seriously, name! I fell in love with that series. :)

That song does sound sad. Oh Amy! Just an FYI. By 9% in SR, she is slapping him. Not your type at all. :P

fabi July 28, 2015 at 4:29 PM

Maryse, sorry it took me so long. Turns out it doesn’t come out for a couple of days. Bound to Darkness: A Midnight Breed Novel (The Midnight Breed Series Book 13) by Lara Adrian – July 30th 2015

Bev, thank you!!! I one clicked Prince of Tricks

Netflix, there’s been a few series based on books that I’ve enjoyed. I think Bitten was one of my favs. What about Lost Girl? It’s loosely based on Succubus Blues.

Tessa July 28, 2015 at 4:32 PM

Warning for those who read the book, Bitten isn’t exactly following the book exactly. I have to see a little of this season, but up to there, no cabal has been mentioned.

Succubus Blues? Fabi, do you know who wrote it?

Tessa July 28, 2015 at 4:38 PM

Just checked and it doesn’t seem true. Just a rumor. I knew the name of the book sounded familiar. I read the series. :) I think it’s just the similarities.

fabi July 28, 2015 at 4:40 PM

Are you referring to Succubus Blues Tessa? You’re right, the TV series is not based purely on the books its just extremely similar.

Jen C July 28, 2015 at 4:42 PM

FYI A book from the Tangled series by Emma Chase is free right now! (Holy Frigging Matrimony – A Tangled Series Short Story (The Tangled)) :)

Tessa July 28, 2015 at 5:48 PM

Oh cool. Thanks Jen.

Fabi, that makes sense. I really liked that series.

Michelle July 28, 2015 at 7:20 PM

Alpha by Jasinda Wilder is free right now :)

Yeah I want Bourbon Kings but that price is a NO for me!

Amy July 28, 2015 at 8:09 PM

*gasp* Tessa, you recognized the series I was talking about?? Oh no…

*covers face*

No, no, no…

*flaps hands*

I did the one thing that irritates me the most and posted a total and complete spoiler! I know I didn’t mention the series but still…GAH! MARYSE!!! EDIT!!!! Edit my post!! I’m freaking out here!!!

Amy July 28, 2015 at 8:14 PM

Tessa, I’ll PM you on GR and tell you the NA series name. I’m too scared to do it here after my spoiler mess-up. :?

Tasha, isn’t the caramel macchiato yummy when it’s iced?? Then you get those bits of caramel through the straw and yummmmmmm…

And that video, right? I was thinking how sweet it looked and then 0:50 happened and my heart DROPPED. Book feels in a music video!! *sniffle*

Anne July 28, 2015 at 8:16 PM

Amy that video! Oh the feels! Love her voice though.

Started The Bourbon Kings and liking it so far. I’ll keep you guys posted :)

Nicole July 28, 2015 at 8:23 PM

Ha ok so broke all the bank rules today and read at my desk all day :) finished Crossroads by Rilet hart and it was awesome!!! Sweet hot and hilarious!!! Everyone needs to read this book! I am going to read Him next! But I can’t imagine it being as good as Crossroads! I will let you know in a day or so I probably should work tomorrow :)

bev July 28, 2015 at 8:40 PM

Finally time to read. Lost my whole day somehow.
Pretty sure I’m Swedish/Scottish/Irish.
Note to self, send emails of chubby ponies to Maryse.

fabi July 28, 2015 at 8:42 PM

Awesome Nicole. Crossroads is next for me!

Tessa July 28, 2015 at 8:49 PM

Thanks Amy. I read it, but hey, even better, I remember that ending Oh so well. lol There was a bit of wtf with the supernatural guy, with me thinking, aren’t you too old for her? However, loved it despite the excessively weird ending.

Amy July 28, 2015 at 9:13 PM

Hehe, Nicole is a rebel! Don’t feel bad Nicole…I work from home and sometimes end up reading when I’m supposed to be working. As long as I’m sitting at my desk though I can convince myself I am “working.” ;)

Anne, I love Tristan Pettyman’s voice. Have you read the Avoiding series? TP’s song My Oh My is SO the song for that series!

Ugh Tessa, that ending *ruined* the entire series for me! I felt so cheated to have things end like that…I’ve *never* seen that happen before in a book. And then to have the “villian” not really dealt with? My BP is rising just thinking about it. *snort*

Amy July 28, 2015 at 9:15 PM

OMG, Bev is going to send Maryse pictures of chubbies!!!! *snorrrrrrrrt*

bev July 28, 2015 at 9:30 PM

Ponies, Amy, Ponies.
Fess up. Your really 16 year old Andy. And your “work from home” is actually homework, right? Its ok. ;-)

bev July 28, 2015 at 9:31 PM

Fabi, Him first.

Maryse July 28, 2015 at 9:37 PM

whoa. pics of chubbies?

*scrolls up*

Maryse July 28, 2015 at 9:39 PM

chubby PONIIIIIIESSS okay.

Although, that in itself has me perplexed. I’ve never gotten pictures of chubby ponies before.

I thank you, bev, for thinking of me, for that.

Tee hee!!!! :P

bev July 28, 2015 at 9:40 PM
Maryse July 28, 2015 at 9:41 PM

Amy? What post? Give me the first sentence it starts with… I didn’t see anything that looked spoiler-ish.

Maryse July 28, 2015 at 9:41 PM

Oh that IS a chubby pony.

Why are we looking at chubby ponies again?

bev July 28, 2015 at 9:41 PM

MichelleS July 28, 2015 at 9:45 PM

Someone needs a sugar cube…

bev July 28, 2015 at 9:47 PM

Written in Red. Lol.
Sadie sent you a movie rec through email.
Can’t exactly throw a pony…….

Amy July 28, 2015 at 9:55 PM

BEV!! Okay, now you *have* to go to the RT convention in Vegas next year so you can see me for yourself! Hmph!!!

Maryse, it was at 3:38 and started with “Aw Tessa”…maybe I overreacted but I kinda freaked when I saw that Tessa recognized the series. I’ll let you be the judge… :?

Amy July 28, 2015 at 9:56 PM

OMG I wanna cuddle that pony!!! My inner little girl just squealed!

Tessa July 28, 2015 at 10:04 PM

That pony is adorable. Why are you sending pony pics? And Amy, I told you, it’s not a spoiler because OBVIOUSLY I read the end. That’s all you typed was the end. Not even the story. Anyone reading that would be clueless unless they read the whole thing.

Still waiting for that GR send missy!

No really. Please don’t make me go through all my books to figure out what the series is. *whimpers slightly at the idea*

bev July 28, 2015 at 10:06 PM

See, MichelleS gets me.
*high fives MichelleS*

Tessa July 28, 2015 at 10:08 PM

Oh! She doesn’t get the awesomeness of crows and ponies yet. I adored the ponies, but those crows were awesome too. And puppy wolves! Mustn’t forget puppy wolves!

Cheryl July 28, 2015 at 10:16 PM

“sports story” Ok, Bev I’m one-clicking The Frenchman!! Thanks!

Cheryl July 28, 2015 at 10:19 PM

The Bourbon Kings sounds so good but did anyone find out if there is a CH or a series?

Amy, caramel macchiato is my fav-hot or cold, although lately I’ve been getting the very berry hibiscus- refreshing!!

Cheryl July 28, 2015 at 10:26 PM

Lauren, heard something about Love Hurts having a CH; is that true??

Amy, sad, great break-up song- kept waiting for a “twist” at the end of the video!

bev July 28, 2015 at 10:42 PM

I can’t believe there is already 79 comments. Well, 80 now.:-)
Sometimes I’m not sure if I want to know what Maryse is reading or not. On one hand curious on the other fun to be surprised.

Amy July 28, 2015 at 10:49 PM

Ack! Sorry Tessa…it’s sent now. ;)

I *loved* the crows in WiR!! Then again, I love crows in real life so that’s kind of a given. “Shiny!!”

LOL Cheryl!! We do love our twists, don’t we? I can’t remember the last time a video gave me a lump in my throat. Oh, and that berry hibiscus drink is to die for…especially with a pump or two of sweetener. Ooooh, it would be great with a shot of hibiscus vodka!! :D

Cheryl July 28, 2015 at 10:49 PM

Oh yeh, forgot about Karina Halle’s latest release-clicking on that one and can’t wait for Before We Were Strangers, but on Amazon it says August 18th-WAAAAAAHHH!!!

Amy July 28, 2015 at 10:51 PM

Bev…82!!!!! :P Meh, what can I say…this is what happens when I get bored and don’t know what to read.

bev July 28, 2015 at 10:55 PM

Read Him with me. I still have to start. Busier today than anticipated.

Cheryl July 28, 2015 at 11:09 PM

“Hibiscus vodka”…OMG going to liquor store tomorrow…that will be my new favorite summer drink!!!

Found this too, now I can add this and berries to the vodka and voila-very berry hisbiscus vodka drink anytime I want it!!!!

Fabi July 28, 2015 at 11:15 PM

…errr, I meant to say Him is next. Sorry Bev. Just a slip of the tongue…errr, finger.

Ack, I give up.

I am so tired. I’m still working…I wanna read. Waaahhhhhh

Fabi July 28, 2015 at 11:17 PM

Cheryl, The Bourbon Kings is definitely a series but I don’t know if it has a CH since I haven’t read it yet.

Tessa July 28, 2015 at 11:25 PM

Thank you Amy!

Don’t know what to read? Read this!

Yes, I’m on you about this because you said you’d read it after the series was complete. :P

Anne July 28, 2015 at 11:41 PM

Amy I haven’t read the Avoiding series but I did read her Record one and loved it! So adding Avoiding to my never ending TBR list :D

Awww look at that chubby pony!! Too cute!!

Jean July 29, 2015 at 6:57 AM

I have not read the Covenant series Amy and if you think I’m making any more deals with you, you’re crazy! (Oh yeah, you are crazy…. bring it on!) Lol! I’ll read the series of you read SR……hahahahaha!

Quick question, what is this Shadows book? I thought Onyx was next in the Lux series?

You guys are so funny! I missed all the chubby talk last night!

Grey July 29, 2015 at 8:01 AM

Dang it… there was talk of chubbies and I was not present??? *pout*

However, I need to explain, I was reading The Bourbon Kings. yay! It is part of a series, I haven’t finished it yet, but I see that it says book 1 next to it on the front listing of her books. I don’t know if it will be a cliffy… the BDB books she really tended to wrap up each main character’s story before moving to the next character for the next story, make sense?

Berry flavored vodka? geez… do I live under a rock or what, that sounds deliciously summery… and being as though temps are soaring to the 5th level of Hell today… I. Need. Some.

Cheryl July 29, 2015 at 9:06 AM

Keep us posted Grey, few of us around here, not mentioning any names*whisper/cough Amy* do not handle CH very well!!! Saw that it said book one and wondered the same thing- different characters/book.

Going to get my hibiscus vodka now…

Katherine July 29, 2015 at 9:06 AM

@Tasha J – You might want to give Arrow on Netflix a chance. The first 12 episodes are so-so, but then the Oliver/Felicity (Olicity) stuff starts happening (she’s an awkward it nerd who says whatever pops into her head, he’s hot, rich and just back from being shipwrecked on a deserted island for 5 years). After that, you can enjoy reading Gina Maxwell’s Tempting Her Best Friend as she based the characters on Oliver and Felicity.

As for new releases, Badass in My Bed #3 (Rae Lynn Blaise) just released. Really hate the title, but enjoyed the books.

Fabi July 29, 2015 at 9:39 AM

ooohhhh, I LOVE Arrow!!! Good call Katherine.

Diane M July 29, 2015 at 10:10 AM

Hibiscus tea is the best too!!

This is so weird, right before Golden dynasty my friend made me read 1000 White women and they are very similar stories! 1000 was about women sent to procreate with Cheyenne Indian warriors and the way they picked them out, violated them and didn’t speak the same language, very similar feels for such different books

Tasha J July 29, 2015 at 10:11 AM

Thanks for the rec Katherine, Arrow sounds really good! I accidentally posted my thoughts on Jezebel on a different post, whoops! lol off to find that…

Tasha J July 29, 2015 at 10:16 AM

Found it! On the way, I missed the slow burn post and glimpsed downide ghosts so that’s next for me. Vaca in 2 days so plenty of time *hopefully* :) anyway here is what I had posted…

Ok so I just finished Jezebel and I did love it, it was a great story and I was heavily anticipating the ending especially from about 70% on. But I wasn’t really shocked, I was actually pretty spot on. :D I will definitely read the novella!

Jean July 29, 2015 at 10:55 AM

Tasha, I can’t believe you were spot on with Jezebel. I mean, I figured some things out, but didn’t expect THAT!

OK guys, need some help… i need to read Shadows before Onyx (Lux series)?

bev July 29, 2015 at 11:09 AM

Jean, Here’s your order.
2. anything else.

Jean July 29, 2015 at 11:15 AM

Blahahahaha! Bev, you are funny today!

Shane July 29, 2015 at 11:22 AM

Hibiscus vodka, nice… You guys, I can’t keep up. Ponies aawww….

Amy July 29, 2015 at 11:28 AM

Oh wow, Tasha…that kinda sucks if you saw it coming. :? The shock of it was what made it so crazy! Michelle described it perfectly when she said (paraphrasing here) that she knew the players and pieces but not the gameboard, and that’s exactly what happened with me…I was NOT expecting it to play out like that!

Jean, Shadows is about Dawson and Bethany so I would say you could read it now since you have finished Obsidian. I think reading it after Obsidian gives it more *oomph* than reading it before, even though it is labeled as #0.5. It’s funny but I remember soooooo much from that series but have a hard time remembering which scenes took place in which books. ;)

bev July 29, 2015 at 11:29 AM

Did u guys vote in this? Can’t remember all the choices i sent in. But have read a few and even better have a few in my library now. And some I need to get.:-P

Jean July 29, 2015 at 11:36 AM

Thanks Amy!

Amy July 29, 2015 at 11:45 AM

LOL Bev!!! Hey, did you remember to add WiR to your favorites list? I wasn’t sure if it slipped your mind when you were compiling it… :P

Mmmmm, hibiscus. Tea or vodka, it doesn’t matter…ANY kind of hibiscus drink is yummy! :D

bev July 29, 2015 at 11:52 AM

Lol, Amy. I haven’t made one yet.

Tessa July 29, 2015 at 12:04 PM

You need to make one Bev! Just for us to see, if nothing else. :) I love that list. I’m going to go through it later, but man, a lot I’ve read. I just don’t know how many.

Finished Surviving Raine. I really liked it. About a four star for me, because at times, it seemed, i don’t know, not as stomach twisty as it could be? However, still really loved it.

bev July 29, 2015 at 12:09 PM

Lol, i don’t think any surprises. I’ll try and do it this weekend.
Tessa, the part that got to me is how he saw the island vs. how she saw it.

Tessa July 29, 2015 at 12:20 PM

Oh I loved that, especially his view of the boxers. He really tried, though. I thought that was so sweet. I think I’ll buy the Evan Ardon (Aldon?) book before reading the second, since he’s involved too with the second.

Tasha J July 29, 2015 at 1:36 PM

Hmm..I can’t explain too much here without spoiling and I hate to downplay a book that so many of you loved because I did love it too, it’s just I wasn’t really shocked at the end, it didn’t have that punch that left me speechless, that what the @!&$!! I did write out my whole thought process that explains it in detail if anyone wants to read it and discuss. Maybe it was players and pieces, I do like that description too it just seemed maybe it fit more easily together than I thought it would? If that makes sense

MichelleS July 29, 2015 at 1:49 PM

My take on Jezebel ending is: with sooooo many people talking about it & how shocking it is, it’s no wonder that people reading it now are either not as shocked or maybe even figure it out – because you are considering anything & everything as possible. A bit desensitized…. does that make sense? because going in truly blind is mind blowing.

Tasha J July 29, 2015 at 2:04 PM

Absolutely possible MichelleS! I found myself really nitpicking every minor detail not just because I wanted to try and guess the ending but also because we were told ‘remember the devil is in the details’ and coming up with about 20 different possibilities and once the seed was planted the luster was gone.

Anne July 29, 2015 at 3:34 PM

Bev that list is great! Thanks for sharing! Added a few to my wishlist :)

I am reading The Bourbon Kings (20%) but I don’t know why I am not connecting with the writing, which translates in a lack of connection with the MC’s :/

bev July 29, 2015 at 3:38 PM

A few hours until home and book. And slightly bored. Anyone want to play another round of 20 questions? Well not 20.

Dogs or Cats?
What Golden Girls are you?
Favorite ice cream?
Do you think Jean should read WiR?

bev July 29, 2015 at 3:46 PM

Ok, 4.

I think I’m a Dorothy.:-P
Chocolate peanut butter or the B&J nutella.

Jean July 29, 2015 at 3:53 PM

Omg bev, you really are funny today! I’m bored too, last minutes of work

Grew up with dogs, but have cats now – love them both!
I don’t know enough about the GG to pick my character – can you give descriptions of each of them?
CHOCOLATE ICE CREAM – I never falter!
Yes, I think I should read WiR!! Lol!!

MichelleS July 29, 2015 at 4:46 PM

Dogs, Dororhy, pistachio, and YES… But only when she’s in a UF mood, or else she won’t appreciate it. I’m getting protective of the courtyard like Bev now, oh oh! Time to sort some mail….

MichelleS July 29, 2015 at 4:48 PM

Anne- that’s what I was afraid of! Too pricey to buy based on author alone… Never connected with any of her contemporary stuff… I’m thinking BDB was just its own unique world never to be replicated!

Fabi July 29, 2015 at 4:55 PM

Ditto MichelleS on TBK. I’ll wait and see.

Bev, Bev, Bev, *sigh* trying to figure out who’s worse, you with Jean and WiR or me (and others) with Amy and SR. hehehe We’re all such pushers.

Almost done with work? I’m so jealous of all of you. How did my life go from almost retired to back to nonstop crazyness? Family…gotta live ‘em since we’re stuck with them. *kidding* :-/ sort of

I miss reading. I think I’m going into withdrawals.

bev July 29, 2015 at 4:58 PM

Jean, get thee to netflix. Yes now choosing your viewing too, lol.

MichelleS July 29, 2015 at 5:28 PM

Nothing is doing it for me. I think it’s the meds. They are changing my taste in books. I am being super critical & snarky – I got to 51% with Wild Reckless and 25% with Existence #2. I can’t keep my eyes from rolling. It’s not even the stories or characters – just the execution. Maybe I need something more legit – like a Sweet Gum Tree or something? A real author with a real editor? Need to feel better soon so I can get back to enjoying trashy romances.

bev July 29, 2015 at 6:48 PM

MichelleS, that’s always tough. I’d say try samples but that doesn’t sound like your problem.
All of me isn’t professionally edited & maybe too much like the others.Maybe a Ellen O’Connell. Indie but western and not OTT.

Tessa July 29, 2015 at 7:04 PM

Four questions huh?

1. cats
2. None? Closest is maybe Dorothy? Don’t know.
3. Coffee. Or a discontinued one, Ben and Jerry’s From Russia With Buzz. Coffee insanity mixed with alcohol. YUM.
4. Of course!

Now, back to the library book I got. God Save the Queen. I’ve been wanting to read it for a long while, and got the sample, but couldn’t find out if it were a sample or not, because I lost the book. Sony transferred all their books to Kobo and I lost a LOT. But, I think it was just a sample. Hoping anyway.

bev July 29, 2015 at 7:16 PM

Lol, I was just clock watching and bored. Tessa, I thought your book was a bio on the current Queen. Then saw the cover.

Tessa July 29, 2015 at 7:17 PM

Rofl Nope. Kate Locke, so it’s a PNR book. Kinda steam punk-ish vampires and lycans. :)

Amy July 29, 2015 at 7:42 PM

I like it when we do these random questions! It’s fun to see everyone’s responses. :D

– Cats
– Sophia
– Beni imo
– Yep, lol!

Amy July 29, 2015 at 7:46 PM

“Ewwww, you look gross Miss Amy. And you smell funny!” <——- said by a little neighbor girl when I got back from my run.

Dang, kids are honest.

Michelle July 29, 2015 at 7:51 PM

LMAO Bev! If you get tired of pusing WiR just tag me and I’ll give it a go!

1. Well I’m a dog and cat vet primarily so both…butttt secretly cats, shhh don’t tell!
2. Dorothy
3. Blueberry cheesecake
4. No.

…did my reverse psychology work?

Fabi July 29, 2015 at 7:56 PM

Lol Michelle!

MichelleS July 29, 2015 at 7:58 PM

Michelle: my hubby always tries to find blueberry cheesecake flavored ice cream!! So funny to see someone else liking THAT as their fave!! He searches for cold stone creamery all over…A vet who picked cats? YES!!! Knew you were a cool chick!

Amy July 29, 2015 at 8:29 PM

CATS!! *whooping*

Not that dogs aren’t great… ;)

bev July 29, 2015 at 8:35 PM

Michelle, any time. This came from Jean never having read a shifter book.

Seriously, lets all take a moment to stare at Jean in shocked fascination.
She was so close. Until Fabi!

bev July 29, 2015 at 8:39 PM

I can’t believe I’m surrounded by cat ladies.;-)

But really dogs give hugs. And LOVE you. Your the best the best part of their day. Plus they tell creepy people walk the other way.
I don’t think I’ve had pistachio ice cream or Amy’s.
I’m wondering if Jean would be a Sophia too.

bev July 29, 2015 at 8:44 PM

Fabi, this is what you should do. Go to library and pick out the old Fabio covered books. Leave them all around your brothers work space. And read them. Out loud. To him. Maybe he’ll decide he’d rather you were at home reading.

Fabi July 29, 2015 at 8:51 PM

Holy crap Bev! I think I peed my pants! Bahahahaha

Fabi July 29, 2015 at 9:03 PM

Ok I gotta chime in on the cats vs dogs convo. I’m in animal lover. The last place I lived had a few acres so I had 4 dogs, 4 cats, 2 parakeets, and two horses. And, one seriously dedicated and understanding Vet! Yes, they all got along (for the most part). They had plenty of rabbits and frogs and bugs to chase to waste time chasing each other. All that to say that I am also secretly (or not so secretly) a cat lover.

And…yes, Jean should eventually read WiR. I’m just worried about that being her first shifter novel because it’s really different than the typical.shifter PNR. There’s not a lot of ummm hanky panky or even romance that you typically find in shifter books. BUT, S
I STILL say its one of my favorite series because it is SO original.

MichelleS July 29, 2015 at 9:04 PM

Beni imo? Had to look that up.., ew! Purple potatoes?

Never had pistachio ice cream? GASP!!! Go out & buy some this instant!

Why is Fabi stuck at her brothers? What’d I miss?

MichelleS July 29, 2015 at 9:09 PM

Okay, let’s all analyze this “Jean reading WiR” thingy: what had she read that’s similar? Mercy Thompson? Anything like that? It’s an acquired taste, no? I don’t even consider it a strong “shifter” book… Not really… It’s just its own thing. What fantasy type books have you read Jean?

Tessa July 29, 2015 at 9:25 PM

She said she never read any shifter book at all. I know she read the Until the End of the World series, but no idea past that. Where is Jean? Reading?

bev July 29, 2015 at 9:37 PM

Fabi, lol. But I get it. When I was clock watching it wasn’t for my job but helping family.
And definitely not a typical shifter. The fated mates and OTT alphas. *sigh* those were fun.

Cheryl July 29, 2015 at 10:15 PM

Poor Jean she’s getting bullied!! ;)

Dogs. Allergic to cats.
Coffee or Ben & Jerry’s Cherry Garcia
No. ;)

bev July 29, 2015 at 10:36 PM

We have a Blanche!!

Michelle, you know why Cheryl is saying no, right? Cause she hasn’t read WiR yet.

Tessa July 29, 2015 at 10:41 PM

She gets a reprieve before we bug her. Her favorite ice cream is coffee like me. We know she has good taste! Though, Cherry Garcia… maybe not.

Anne July 29, 2015 at 10:54 PM

Oh fun!

1. Dogs! Love them!
2. Don’t know cause I’ve never watched that show *hides*
3. Cookies and Cream!
4. I think we should both read WiR :)

Cheryl July 29, 2015 at 10:58 PM

Bev- smarty pants!!

Tessa- cherries, chocolate chunks and vanilla ice cream, what’s not to love!!!

Tessa July 29, 2015 at 11:48 PM

It’s alright, just not the best. Currently I don’t know what their best is, but even chunky monkey was better!

Tessa July 29, 2015 at 11:49 PM

Then again, it’s been years since I ate Ben and Jerry’s. Maybe the Cherry Garcia is the best.

bev July 30, 2015 at 12:46 AM

Mmm, I love cherry so it’s good to me. So happy it’s cherry season right now. They also have a marshmallow one I really like. But right now it’s this one.
Umpqua for the pb & chocolate. Jean Umpqua also has a triple chocolate that I used to love to get in high school. Tried again recently and was like this is still

bev July 30, 2015 at 2:20 AM

Stayed up to late to finish Him. I liked this. Great characters, they had nice chemistry, humor, and no surprise well written. Always wish a bit more in the falling stage. Also, one of the families is so very well done I wanted to spend 10x more time with them. Really.
Now, what next? I have a few calling my name. Yet, talking of Oconnell makes want to do a re-read of Eyes of Silver Eyes of Gold. Guess time to sleep on it. :-)

Marit July 30, 2015 at 2:28 AM

I’m reading the Blood & Roses Series by Callie Hart! LOVING it. The heroine is smart and uptight, and HE is a BADASS ;) He’s living a dangerous life, but she needs his help :) A must read, ladies ;) Trust me!

Michelle July 30, 2015 at 5:32 AM

Haha MichelleS, tell hubby he has excellent taste in ice cream, well you do too since pistachio is probably my third favorite! Cats edge out dogs – I dunno, I just ‘get’ them a little more.

Bev, cats can’t love you or give hugs?! Exhibit A:

Jean, you’ve never read ANY shifters books!…*blinks in mystified manner* Well you can read it with Cheryl…and Anne…and *whisper yells* Maryse and anyone else who is missing out on the fabulousness of WiR. Ok Bev, going off to take care of cats…oh and I guess dogs too ;) so you have the next watch for holdouts.

Sharon July 30, 2015 at 5:45 AM

Not to change the subject. . . But I am 28% into The Bourbon Kings and I.LOVE.IT! Wasn’t sure I would because, well The Brothers! Liked the Angels but did’t love them. This one? A nice change! Ok, back to the book!

Amber La Barhe July 30, 2015 at 9:15 AM
bev July 30, 2015 at 9:43 AM

Michelle that is super sweet. And I miss having a cat sometimes. But…….just not the same, lol. One of my favorite cat moments. You know if in peril Lady would try and save you. The cats would think, lunch maybe?

bev July 30, 2015 at 9:45 AM

Sharon, lol.
We do get off topic sometimes. Jeez, Cheryl. ;-)

Jean July 30, 2015 at 10:25 AM

Oh my gosh you guys, I missed all your comments last night! I skipped reading and was watching The Maze Runner movie!!! Sooo good! (I think it was on Fabi’s favorite books list??) And that Dylan O’Brien sure is a cutey;)

Ok, you guys are ganging up on me! I don’t think I’ve read any shifter books.

Ummm…..thinking…..I’m not even sure if I have or not. I mean I read the Twilight series long ago (are werewolves considered shifters?) Read BDB series, Fae Chronicles and Fever Series……but as I’ve said before I have problems differentiating PNR, UF, etc. I feel so stupid.

And, if you all think WiR is not a good shifter one to start with, what would you suggest? (You better duck….Bev will start to throw things at you)!

Bev, love when you get us all on a roll with your trivia questions! Haha! So much fun around here!

Oh and the Lux series….read Shadows because I needed to know what happened to Dawson. Tessa, Daemon and Dawson totally remind me of Mason/Logan… them both for different reasons!

OK, this was too long….I’m out!

bev July 30, 2015 at 10:26 AM

First line Thursday.

“Anne’s fear was all-pervasive, mind numbing, a greedy serpent coiled in her stomach, devouring all strength and will.”
Eyes of Silver, Eyes of Gold by Ellen O’Connell.
The opening scenes are hard.

Amy July 30, 2015 at 10:51 AM

“I pulled the shard out just as his wound began spurting blood.” ~ Warprize by Elizabeth Vaughan

Tessa July 30, 2015 at 11:00 AM

Jean if not WIR, probably the Mercy Thompson series. For straight up shifters, (which werewolves are one of) it’s probably the best. The romance isn’t even there at the beginning though. If you need romance, erm… I’ll think on it. lol

Love that you are liking Lux. Awesome series, right? :)

First line Thursday:

‘I hate goblins.’
God Save the Queen by Kate Locke

bev July 30, 2015 at 11:09 AM

Amy, have wanted to read that book forever. And is it weird that you surprised me with that?
Jean WIR is not bad in any way, lol. I think when you say shifter it’s usually pnr. And certain themes like fated mates-have to be together-OTT alphas.
Maybe Kresley Cole, Feehan’s leopards, Kenyon, Suzanna Wright, Singh, etc.
BUT WIR does it in such an amazing way. I mean they are wolfs or crows. And Mercy just rocks.

Jean July 30, 2015 at 11:10 AM

First line Thursday:
“Growing up in the Crowley Ridge area of Arkansas, I paid little attention to the sweet gum trees except to admire their brilliant colors during the fall. ” (The Sweet Gum Tree, Katherine Allred)

Yep, I bit the bullet…… Bev, it was between this and WiR, but since I bought SGT back in Nov 2014, and Amy has been nagging me to read it longer than your WiR nag, I figured it was the right thing to do! Lol! And I won’t even mention that Amy promised to drop everything and read SR when I started SGT…..oh I guess I just kinda did that! Haha! WiR is NEXT……need a break from Lux series.

bev July 30, 2015 at 11:16 AM

*looks at Amy*

MichelleS July 30, 2015 at 11:24 AM

OMG. Best Thursday EVUH….. Jean is reading SGT, so you know what that means? Fat ladies are singing all over the world and pigs are flying and Amy’s going to fall in love with Bastian!!

And this God Save the Queen sounds amazing. Why does it have to be ten bucks? Going to see if my library carries it.

I don’t have a first line yet…. but hopefully sometime today that will change.

MichelleS July 30, 2015 at 11:32 AM

My library has all three books on the shelf – so I placed a hold… but with my shoulder, I am really better off with an e-reader! boo! I am going to try to read the “books”…. they always take at least a day for holds to get set up… so…. still reading blurbs…. I downloaded sample for Warprize, Amy, and like it…again, 7 bucks??? hmm……

Tessa July 30, 2015 at 11:39 AM

It is good, but I did the same thing. I have the library copy. Mine is the size of a paperback, but is a hardback. Hopefully that helps as far as weight.

Jean! *blinks* Awesome!

Amy July 30, 2015 at 11:47 AM

Wait…did you see that? My first line just changed! ;)

“My head was pounding, and I was pretty sure the whole room was spinning.” ~ Surviving Raine by Shay Savage

Anne July 30, 2015 at 11:58 AM

Jean is finally reading SGT!! *happy dance*

I need to read SR too so maybe I’ll BR with Amy :D

Jean July 30, 2015 at 12:17 PM

Wait, what?!? Amy switched books! Yay! Is the feud finally over?! Lol! (Now I just hope you like it….)

MichelleS…..”fat ladies are singing all over the world and pigs are flying”….Hahahaha!

Fabi July 30, 2015 at 12:32 PM

*dying dying dying* Amy is meeting Sebastian. *faints dead away*

Fabi July 30, 2015 at 12:36 PM

*revives briefly for 1st line Thursday*

“Xander Karcek pounded down the glossy wood of the court, thigh muscles straining, huge biceps pumping, and sweat dripping into his eyes from his black bangs.”. The Locker Room by Amy Lane

started it on a whim last weekend but haven’t had a chance to get back to it

Cheryl July 30, 2015 at 1:18 PM

Jean- *spits drink on laptop* OMG you just dropped that bomb. :)

Amy- good save!!

“Maddy was going to beg.” Crazy Thing Called Love (Crooked Creek Ranch Book 3) by Molly O’Keefe.

Not the best, have to say last 2 books have been little to no angst and just sappy writing! Need to read something with angst and “feeling.”

MichelleS July 30, 2015 at 1:28 PM

Who is actually reading today? huh? I know I’m not… I’m just biting my nails waiting for the Jean and Amy updates….. I may buddy read both books at the same time… :-) Or Amy could send me Warprize since she’s not reading it now!

Amy July 30, 2015 at 1:35 PM

Y’all say what you will about me but I DO keep my word. ;) Hehe, *now* what are you guys going to give me a hard time about with SR off the table??? Bam! I just took away your ammo!!!!!

I have some work to finish then I have to meet with my trainer, but after that I’m jumping into SR.

MichelleS…say the word and I’ll send Warprize to you. :D

bev July 30, 2015 at 1:39 PM

Cheryl, I read that one. I really felt bad for the heroine but wish she hadn’t become so closed off.

Amy, have you read…….? Lol. Want me to start nagging you to read a book?

Fabi July 30, 2015 at 1:41 PM

Actually, I think Jean took away our amo. ;-) . WTG Jean. Sooo glad you guys are reading your respective challenges.

Michelle S July 30, 2015 at 1:46 PM

I agree! That was like gunfight at the OK corral… a big ole’ stand-off. sigh… now what will we do to badger them?

You can send it anytime Amy! It’s too pricey for me right now. My email is (going to make it so it doesn’t read like a real one so it can’t be used…)… let’s see… santiagogirl85 at gmail dot com…… does that make sense? someone said to do it like that once…

bev July 30, 2015 at 1:57 PM

*gives evil laugh*
The one I’m reading is leandable. When done………..
*Eyes MichelleS email.*

Amy July 30, 2015 at 1:59 PM

That makes sense MichelleS…I have ya on GR too with your email. ;) I’m sending it now…

I feel like something is missin’ now…you feel that too Jean? :? Oh well, now we just have to wait for the next couple of ladies to get in a standoff!! *rubs hands together*

Jean July 30, 2015 at 2:13 PM

Haha, yep I feel a huge void without our ongoing battle. I’m sure we’ll find something else to wrangle about….hmm wrangle, makes me think of cowboys!

Hey bev, has Amy read WiR??

Did you guys hear The Girl in 6E by Alessandra Torre is being made into a movie? Haven’t read it yet, but my friend loved it! Books being made into movies makes me nervous…. the movie is NEVER a good as the book!

Cheryl July 30, 2015 at 2:17 PM

Sure won’t take long for the next “oh no she didn’t!!!”

Bev, just started it. It was a toss up with The Frenchman that you rec’d…did you read that one yet? Read the sample and then when she said she was a virgin I thought “Fifty Shades” and not the strong, feisty, h I was looking forward to reading…maybe she ends up being this. Think I might also check out Karina Halle’s newest…IDK I’m all over the place and not liking anything lately or I should say it’s not enough. Maybe I should just go for a run. Have had to take time off because fractured/bruised some ribs couple weeks ago…ready to run again :(

Amy July 30, 2015 at 2:32 PM

Yes, Jean, she has read WiR. :P

I know what you mean about books to movies…very few live up to the books. I’ve watched the Ugly Love teaser (“You knew the rules, Tate.” *sob* Oh, my heart!) but I’m so afraid the movie won’t do it justice. Same thing if the Covenant TV series does actually happen.

MichelleS!! It’s won’t let me lend it! I’m so sorry. :(

Amy July 30, 2015 at 2:33 PM

Aw Cheryl, hope you’re feeling better now! *gentle hugs*

Jean July 30, 2015 at 2:37 PM

Ugly Love teaser? Oh no, how could it be as good as the book?

The Infamous Ellen James is .99$ today. It’s been on my list for a while from one of Maryse’s list of romcom/funny books. Maybe that will take you out of your funk MichelleS/Cheryl???

Amy July 30, 2015 at 2:44 PM

Jean, here’s the movie teaser…

Nick Bateman as Miles… Down girls!!! <—– talking to my ovaries

Jean July 30, 2015 at 2:52 PM

Omg Amy….talk about hot!!!!!!! Me and my friends at work just watched it and we’re all dying!

bev July 30, 2015 at 3:19 PM

Ouch, Cheryl. That must be very painful. I admire you runners. I’d get 10 steps, lol. Plus its over 100′, don’t even want to walk. I haven’t read it. I didn’t remember buying it either. It must of been a .99 or free at one point. Yes, it does look like a certain type, for a certain mood.

bev July 30, 2015 at 3:21 PM

Yes, Amy read it as part of a book swap. I think I may start badgering her to read Lisa Kleypas.

Tessa July 30, 2015 at 3:29 PM

I know what to badger Amy about, but I won’t until after she reads SR.

I think I’ve read God Save the Queen, but I’m not sure. Parts sound somewhat familiar, but… *shrugs* I don’t know.

Tessa July 30, 2015 at 3:51 PM

Yep, I can now officially say I’ve read it. Gah, stupid Sony/Kobo losing my books.

Cheryl July 30, 2015 at 4:15 PM

Jean, I’ve read The Infamous Ellen James!! I don’t remember specifics but I do remember I liked it!

Damn, that trailer is HOT; maybe I should just re-read Ugly Love. They never joined the mile high club, did they?? I remember a lot about UL, but not exactly what happened in his past. That’s the kinda book I’m looking for now. *sigh*

Amy July 30, 2015 at 4:22 PM

Jean, right?!? He is actually *exactly* how I pictured Miles when I was reading UL. :D

Bev, believe me…running is not my favorite kind of cardio but the benefits are worth it. Every time I go running, I hit the half-mile mark and I’m ready to quit. Every. Single. Time. Never fails.

Oh man, I’m going to have to stretch SR out for a bit so I can hold off the book pressure bombs that are sure to be coming my way!!

Cheryl July 30, 2015 at 4:23 PM

Just went to the library with my daughter to pick up her next summer assignment book. Was looking around, and noticed Burned by Karen Moning. I never read this one and also Iced. Can’t remember why. Do I need to read Iced? Seem to recall comments about waiting until next book is soon to be released before reading Burned and that it wasn’t as good as previous books.

Cheryl July 30, 2015 at 4:24 PM

Yeh, I’m with you Amy; always gets better after the first mile.

Amy July 30, 2015 at 4:26 PM

Cheryl…I don’t think there were any mile-high scenes in the book, even with a flight attendant like what is shown in the teaser. *scratches head* Unless it was mentioned as a past event and I just forgot. His past was the most heartbreaking part. The water on the cover has dual meaning. :(

Amy July 30, 2015 at 4:33 PM

Oooooh, better duck Cheryl…there are some here that *really* didn’t like one of those books (can’t remember which one). You’re gonna get an earful!!! :P

Tessa July 30, 2015 at 4:49 PM

Burned. So much hate for that book. I loved it, but I seem to be the only one. A lot more liked Iced. I can see the issues with Burned, but I can also see what she’s doing, and trust her to take us further.

Amy… if you take too long, I’ll just start hounding you before you’re done! :P

bev July 30, 2015 at 4:50 PM

I really really liked Iced. Really. It was unique. Which is why I didn’t like Burned. Iced was a little controversial and some speculate that’s how Burned happened.

UL was a dnf for me. His parts sounded like a teen girl to me. I’m curious as to how that part will sound spoken. And skimming through it I didn’t feel that he was I in love with the heroine.

MichelleS July 30, 2015 at 5:40 PM

I loved Iced. Loved Dani & her crazy buzzing around. Burned was a big’ ole’ disappointment! Barrons… Ugh….. Don’t get me started!

Ugly Love: read it, think I liked it, can’t remember anything! Most of her books are like that for me! Love her, but not super memorable. *ducking from all the haters*

Cheryl July 30, 2015 at 6:14 PM

Ah, quick glance at UL and now I remember about his past. Ahh, the water…no others that I remember …just Tate I think because there was nothing for years prior.

Hmm, think I’ll wait to read Iced and Burned until closer to next book being released, think I saw January.

Anne July 30, 2015 at 6:27 PM

Nick Bateman is so hot!! Please I want a guy just like him! I loved Ugly Love so much! His past was so heartbreaking. Can’t wait for the movie.

I am reading Broken Dove and really liking it. This series is great!

Anne July 30, 2015 at 6:28 PM

Cheryl hope you are feeling better! *hugs*

Amy July 30, 2015 at 6:44 PM

Kinda random but I was skimming over my Kindle library (should be reading but I’m in an organizing mood!) and I saw the Luke complete series bundle by Cassia Leo which shows a man in a suit on the front, and it reminded me of a book I read probably well over two years ago, Paradise Hops by Liz Crowe. My friends who love a good love triangle, this is a GOOD one!! I can’t remember the angst level but I *do* remember it being really emotional.

Oh, and the connection to the suit, since there is not a suit on the cover of PH? *clutches chest* It’s a heartbreaking one. If you read it, you’ll get it. I love books that give me that little unexpected heart clench when I randomly think of them years later! :D

Diane M July 30, 2015 at 7:31 PM

Anyone ever read any Anne Calhoun? My friend is always hounding me for good Erotica, we’re trying out Liberating Lacy, it’s pretty good so far

i’m lactose intolerant and i only run when chased buuuuut….

mmmmmm…cookie dough…..worth the pain

bev July 30, 2015 at 8:58 PM

Time for a tall iced drink and my book.
Randomly bought Essie Sunset Sneak today so think I’ll do my nails tonight. :-)

Amy, I think I have that. Did Maryse review that and say the hero could be a bit of a diva?

Maryse July 30, 2015 at 8:59 PM

Hey I read Paradise Hops a few years ago too, Amy! Can’t remember my level of love for it though…

Maryse July 30, 2015 at 8:59 PM

Agreed Anne… he’s pretty perfect. <3

Grey July 30, 2015 at 9:00 PM

Hey everyone, sorry for being MIA… Dang RL interfering in my fun.

I see that the apocalypse is imminent with the great standoff ending. I haven’t read Sweet Gum Tree but Surviving Raine, Humina Humina!

I am at 67% on The Bourbon Kings, so far I’m enjoying it. That’s something this author definitely has a talent for, so many characters, many jumping off points for future books. This is not a BDB book by any stretch though, which makes me sad and crazy nostalgic. *world gets fuzzy as I indulge in a little trip down memory lane with my fave vamp Vishous.*

2. Not sure actually… Probably Sophia.
3. Peanut butter smores ice cream (yeah…let that little time bomb swirl away in your brains before making a midnight run to your local grocer.)
4. I reserve the right not to answer this question because I haven’t read it yet either…

First line Thursday, are we supposed to use the very first line of the book…or the first line we read today?

I’ll do both… *lunes from The Bourbon Kings by J.R.Ward

First line, “You are cordially invited to A Derby Brunch in celebration of the One Hundred and Thirty-Ninth Running of The Charlemont Derby.”

My first line of the day…
“Laying in bed and playing with my breasts”, Virginia Elizabeth Baldwine, ‘Gin’ to her family, leaned back in her padded chair. (Chapter 9)

bev July 30, 2015 at 9:02 PM

I’m trying to remember a book. Historical pnr. Read it in the early 2000s when that hit big. I want to say the hero was fae and was a faun or Pan. He planned on just seducing the heroine for a child. Then was going to take the child and leave. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Cheryl July 30, 2015 at 9:32 PM

Well, after watching the UL trailer and thinking about the book, I got sucked back into it and re-read it. *sigh Miles*

Now what…

Maryse July 30, 2015 at 9:54 PM

Ahhhh I’m missing the fun here!! Gotta scroll back up and catch up…

Tessa July 30, 2015 at 10:03 PM

Diane, no! Not lactose intolerant. That must be some good stuff to risk it though. :)

Oh, happy because I haven’t read this, just a super long sample. None of this now is in any way familiar. *does happy dance*

Grey. first line of the book, but who cares? That line is um… wow. *blinks* Makes me curious, that’s for sure!

Amy July 30, 2015 at 10:06 PM

Bev, that color is gorgeous!! Are you wearing your nails long or short with that color?I never did pick up that collection but now you have me itching to do some online nail polish shopping…

Exactly, Maryse! I remember snippets of it and that I liked it, and apparently I marked it on my spreadsheet as 3.5-4 stars, but I can’t remember if I loved it enough to say if it is great…hence why I stuck with “good.” ;) But for some reason that whole suit thing *really* sticks out and makes my heart clench. I remember enough about THAT part to have a reaction. Did you review it?

Amy July 30, 2015 at 10:09 PM

Oh my, Grey…that ice cream sounds heavenly!

Bev, I would like to know what that one is as well ’cause it sounds like it could be all kinds of fun!

Cheryl, you could always buddy read SR with me. ;)

Grey July 30, 2015 at 10:40 PM

Finished The Bourbon Kings… pardon me whilst I twirl around here in happy book gluttony LOL! I’d give it 4 stars. I can’t remember who asked, possibly Amy…about it being a cliffy? I would say no… there is an excerpt from the next installment and it does mention the main characters straight away… but… the ending of this first book, sh*t this is hard to do without spoiling anything. Let’s just say I was satisfied with the path she took. Whew…sweating bullets over here.

Now… I’m trying to decide what to read next!!

bev July 30, 2015 at 10:53 PM

Amy, I pretty much keep them on what I consider the short side. On time I was being treated to a mani and I was warning the manicurist that my nails are really short. She looked at them and was, “um, no”. If you look at your palm, I keep them were the nail tip is just seen. *shrug* lol.

Niki July 30, 2015 at 11:06 PM

Jean, I saw the movie news for The Girl in 6E too!!! Alessandra Torre put up a cute you-tube video about it! Such a good book but I haven’t read the second one yet.

Cheryl, you should read Iced first; I like Burned better than Iced but I think I’m in the minority :)

I also don’t remember UL but I’ve read it….

In a book slump so I’m rereading Burn for Me.. although I have to finish reading Kate Daniels to be ready for Tuesday!!

Tessa July 30, 2015 at 11:09 PM

Yeah, finally someone else who liked Burned! *continues her happy dance from before*

Niki July 30, 2015 at 11:27 PM

Haha Tessa… We do have very similar like/loves for the same books!! Back to my Ilona Andrews reading zone :)

Tessa July 30, 2015 at 11:48 PM

Enjoy! :)

Grey July 31, 2015 at 8:09 AM

Sadness. Keep trying to join the forums, thinking that maybe would be easier to chat there, but for whatever reason, my confirmation email isn’t arriving :(

Fabi July 31, 2015 at 8:11 AM

Grey, have you checked you Spam or Junk mailbox? Mine went there even though the regular blog posts come straight to my inbox.

bev July 31, 2015 at 8:36 AM

That’s were I found my email too.

This book is still working for me, yay. She occasionally does the tell not show, which is usually not something I like. Though it’s not overwhelming. But she just tells a good story and I really like the characters.

Tessa July 31, 2015 at 9:27 AM

*blinks* In my defense, it’s only 7:30 here.

You’ll have to say how it goes at the end Bev. If I remember, that’s why we both DNF’d Deeper. Too much tell and no show. So if it’s working, she must be a good writer. :)

bev July 31, 2015 at 9:44 AM

Tessa, I LOVED Deeper, lol.
Its the same author as Without Words. Its Eyes of Silver Eyes of Gold. Its a re read for me, was one of my first ebooks & fell hard for it. Its her first book i think. I noticed it in Without too. So it’s not done in a big way just little bits. But, yes totally enjoying it.

bev July 31, 2015 at 9:45 AM

Salon day today. :-)

Grey July 31, 2015 at 10:06 AM

I have nothing in my junk mail :( dang it! I wanted to chat with you guys there too!

Fabi July 31, 2015 at 10:18 AM

Grey, I don’t think many of us go there unless there is a specific book we want to talk spoiler about. Then, we usually announce the new thread here.

Tessa July 31, 2015 at 10:19 AM

Someone was like me about Deeper. Too much telling, not enough showing. *shrugs* Oh, well. I’m too tired to go through the posts right now. *grins* Too many to search through.

Alright, anyone who likes PNR, Kate Locke’s world is definitely different. I’m really loving it, and plan to get book two and three from the library if they have it. A lot of intrigue and mystery that keeps my mind busy.

bev July 31, 2015 at 10:32 AM

Tessa, Fabi.

Tessa July 31, 2015 at 10:53 AM

Ooh! Thank you!

Grey July 31, 2015 at 11:11 AM

Thank you for letting me know!

Binge watching Scandal today. Taking a small book break, I read Fantastical last night until like 4am…

Maryse July 31, 2015 at 11:19 AM

I need to binge a tv series too. I hear Scandal is AMAZINg and I have yet to see even one episode…

Maryse July 31, 2015 at 11:21 AM

Oh I’m adding the Kate Locke series rec to today’s list. Thanks Tessa!!!

Maryse July 31, 2015 at 11:22 AM

LOL! Yeah we’re pretty much always chatting in the comments… *snort* – it kind of works the same way… ;)

Tessa July 31, 2015 at 11:24 AM

*grins* Thank you! It’s really good and others would like it as well.

Grey July 31, 2015 at 11:26 AM

Not sure what happened Maryse, but I havent gotten the confirmation email for the forum? I get all the notifications on comments… *shrug*

I love Scandal. I called my cable provider, wound up getting a better package for significantly less money… but the downer, is that my DVR box has to be upgraded. So, Scandal, Blacklist… it’s gotta be burned to my HDD before I lose it all.

Michelle July 31, 2015 at 12:00 PM

Omigoddddd Fabi! I’m so sad and emotional and choked up over CoTCB! I hatttteeeeee Broud! There was so much in that last chapter that I’m for sure in emotional overload here! *deep breaths* …and I’m tearing up again…

Maryse July 31, 2015 at 12:23 PM

Okay so updates on the Sweet Gum Tree & Surviving Raine love? Anyone? Anyonnnnnnnee…?

Maryse July 31, 2015 at 12:25 PM

WiR… yessss. I SO have to read that. You guys love it way too much. :P

Maryse July 31, 2015 at 12:25 PM

I want to read that Marit!! Sherry is STILL thinking about that series…

Maryse July 31, 2015 at 12:30 PM

Oh I wanna play questions!!

Dogs or Cats? Dogs (but small bad-ass ones like MinPins or French Bulldogs) – I’m allergic to cats bad!
What Golden Girls are you? Hmmm… Blanche? I barely remember those.
Favorite ice cream? Rum Raisin. What? LOL!! It has rum in it. *snort* Okay fine… strawberry. ANYTHING Ben & Jerry’s
Do you think Jean should read WiR? Yes! Me too.

Fabi July 31, 2015 at 12:31 PM

Ooohhh Michelle, I bet I know which part you’re on. *hugs* that’s brutal

Fabi July 31, 2015 at 12:32 PM

…but…it gets worse…just when you think it can’t, it does

Maryse July 31, 2015 at 12:32 PM

I’ve never had hibiscus anything. Hibiscus Vodka?? I must!

Anne July 31, 2015 at 12:32 PM

Michelle what book is CoTCB?

Still reading Broken Dove and loving it! Its a big book but enjoying it so far.

Fabi July 31, 2015 at 12:36 PM

Anne, it’s Clan of the Cave Bear.

Amy, can you hand Michelle your manatee please? She’s going to need it for the rest of the book.

Michelle July 31, 2015 at 12:40 PM

WHATTTT?! It gets worse *blinks and stares*

…what have I gotten myself into. Ok despite being emotionally drained, I have to go right onto book 2. Fabi, if I blow an emotional gasket for real, it’s soooooo your fault!

Anne, sorry I was a mess. It’s Clan of the Cave Bear and oh boy did I love it despite my blubbering and crying!

Michelle July 31, 2015 at 12:42 PM

I’m done with the book Fabi, that was my reaction to the whole last chapter from hell! *tearing up again* and I just put the tissues away *sighs*

Maryse July 31, 2015 at 12:48 PM

I’m not sure what it could be, Grey… I’ll have to investigate. I’ll follow up soon.

Anne July 31, 2015 at 12:49 PM

Fabi and Michelle thank you! Is it similar to Transcendence?

Fabi July 31, 2015 at 12:49 PM

Oooohhhh you’re at the end. :-0 You read incredibly fast. Now do you understand why CotCB is on my top 24 list?

Fabi July 31, 2015 at 12:51 PM

Yes and no Anne.

Michelle July 31, 2015 at 1:43 PM

YES Fabi I get it! I’m still a wreck but I want to see what happens and today is my day off so onto Book 2. That book took me four evenings to read which is foreverrrrrr for me. I think the second one is longer too!

Anne, I would say it’s very little like Transcendence besides the time period. There is no romance in the book and the story is about the relationships between the main herione, Ayla, and the various members of the clan, who all have POVs in the course of the story. I did not miss the romance at all (I do know it will be coming up in book 2) but appreciate the strong foundation placed to build Ayla’s story on without a rush into romance. I got to know just her, and everything afterwards will have more impact because of that. I LOVED it!

Anne July 31, 2015 at 2:26 PM

Michelle it sounds like a great read! Knowing Fabi and you love it I am adding it to my TBR pile :D

bev July 31, 2015 at 2:35 PM

Does anyone else just want to stare at yourself after going to the salon? Usually avoid mirrors, lol.

Jean July 31, 2015 at 2:45 PM

I’m at 41% of SGT and sitting here at my desk with tears streaming down my face….ugh my heart…sniff sniff….

Maryse July 31, 2015 at 2:46 PM

Tee hee!

Oh wait… I should giggle at your tears, Jean.

Fabi July 31, 2015 at 3:25 PM

Oh the romance kicks in alright. And, when it does…its a love for the ages. But there’s a while lot of story and angst and trials and tribulations and getting to know even more characters and meeting up with the old ones again later in the story and and and…its a long series with a lot of heartache. Ha!

Jean July 31, 2015 at 3:51 PM

That’s not nice Maryse! Now I’m at 52% and all teary-eyed again! Did not expect that…..waahhh!!

bev July 31, 2015 at 4:05 PM

Oh, Jean. But you can take a vacation at the courtyard. Make it a girls weekend and invite Anne, Cheryl, & Grey.
I’d say you know who, but….

Michelle July 31, 2015 at 5:34 PM

“…and meeting up with the old ones again later in the story” *jumps up and down* please let it be who I think and that my sobfest will not be in vain!

Oh Jean maybe you need the manatee more! I cried like a baby during SGT as well…one my all-time favorites though!

Ok back to reading because I’m all sucked back into the story again :D

MichelleS July 31, 2015 at 6:50 PM

Has anyone heard from Amy? Did she like SR? I decided to buddy read it with her after all that smack-talking we did…. and I just finished. I am now going to read Bastian’s Storm, which I never did read even though I loved SR. The whole Evan Arden and Sebastian Storm are in the same book was soooo weird to me. Anyhoo…. forcing Amy to read SR has made me revisit that world, so I am now starting Bastian’s Storm.

Amy? Did you like it??? Dying to know!

Cheryl July 31, 2015 at 7:00 PM

Amy, I’ve read Sr. Not a big fan of it-was meh for me and Bastian’s Storm was a dnf.

Paradise Hops does sound good. Now you have me really curious about the “suit.”

Amy July 31, 2015 at 7:29 PM

I’ve been so crazy, insanely busy today but last night I made it to 50% of SR…so far I’m enjoying it! :D Is it weird that I have felt dehydrated the whole time I have been reading it? I filled up my water bottle sooooo many times while reading it yesterday. Ugh, fish spinal fluid?!? *shudder* Blech.

My *only* issue is the all-male POV, which I already knew it had prior to starting it…don’t go gettin’ all crazy on me for that ’cause y’all KNOW I have problems with those!!!

Amy July 31, 2015 at 7:31 PM

Oh Jean, I know what part that is. Here…you and Michelle can cuddle with Manny together while I whip up some martinis. *hands manatee to Jean and Michelle*

I probably should check out the new post to check for all of your updates…
