BARGAINS & READER RECOMMENDATIONS (NOTE: bargain priced when I added them, but prices can change on Amazon, so make sure to check before you finalize your order).
Since it’s Halloween Week, I’m throwing in a bunch of SCARY read recommendations, along with our awesome romances. Jean asked:
Jean: Isn’t there a book out there that’s so scary you can’t sleep, need to leave the lights on, and jump at every sound in the house? Anyone?
- Gerald’s Game (Signet) by Stephen King <— SCARIEST BOOK ALLISON EVER READ ALERT! Not bargain priced, but it sounds like the perfect read for this week and Allison recommends it BIG time!! “The scariest book I ever read was Gerald’s Game by Stephen King. For real, I read it when I was 19 and still lived at home. I ended up throwing it across the room and running INTO MY MOM’S ROOM AND SLEEPING ON HER FLOOR. That scary.”
- Heart-Shaped Box by Joe Hill <— STEPHEN KING’S SON ALERT!! That is of course, until she read this one. 😉 “Until I read Heart-Shaped Box by Joe Hill. It scared the bee-jeezus out of me. I read it when it first came out and I am still afraid of it.” and Megan agrees, BIG TIME! “Ok- so I’ve been reading your blog for about a year and have never commented on anything so I’m nervous about giving up my lurker status but I saw in your review someone asked what was a stay up late scaredy cat book to read and I read only one or two scary books a year and Heart Shaped Box by Joe Hill is one that all this time later I still get creeped out about. Let me know if anyone tries it.“
- Lisey’s Story: A Novel by Stephen King <— STEPHEN KING LOVE STORY ALERT??!! And this one sounds totally different for Stephen King, but Allison is absolutely head-over-heels for it!! A LOVE STORY? “Also, if Lisey’s Story by Stephen King is ever on sale, drop everything AND BUY IT. One of the most hauntingly beautiful love stories ever told. It was the book that, for me, made me realize that every marriage (or enduring couplehood) has its own language. I read it so many years ago, and to this day I still find myself quietly smiling when I notice my husband and I say something to each other that only we would understand. It makes me think of that book. And really, that book gave me that gift. <3” and Kat is happy to hear about it! “Allison, thanks for the recommendation. I own Lisey’s Story, physical copy, haven’t read it yet but definitely moving it up my TBR list.”
- The Beginning of the End (Apocalypse Z) by Manel Loureiro <— Megan also recommends this one!! “I thought of one more to share with your group: I read Manel Laurio’s Apocalypse Z trilogy and it was really good. He’s Spanish and I had to wait for each book to be translated on Kindle before reading. I was so desperate for the third one I downloaded it in Spanish thinking it would all come back to me from college… I read the first four pages and only got out of it something about air, wind or heavy breathing? Basically my Spanish sucks. Bottom line: all three are in English and are worth it. A lawyer and his cat trying to survive zombie apocalypse!“
- Mary: The Summoning (Bloody Mary) by Hillary Monahan <— CREEPY GAME ALERT!! Remember this one? It’s on sale and has lots of great reviews. I wonder if it’ll scare me good!
- Good Time Bad Boy by Sonya Clark <— bev found us this one! “Good Time Bad Boy by Sonya Clark. It was a pretty good read.” and it sure does sound like something we’d enjoy! “College classes will be her ticket out of poverty and instability. She doesn’t mind waiting tables for the time being, but she could do without the rowdy rednecks who sometimes get handsy. When one of them crosses the line, she snaps and gives him and his stupid ten gallon hat the telling off he deserves, but causing a scene gets her fired…“
- Off the Edge (Undercover Associates Book 2) by Carolyn Crane <— and bev found us this one, too! “Off the Edge by Carolyn Crane. Read & enjoyed one of hers.”
- The Ground Rules: Rewritten by Roya Carmen <— I think Jean liked it!!! LOL! “Just finished The Ground Rules Rewritten! Holy Hannah! I hate to ask, but when is the third book coming out? Any way you can find this out for us Maryse? I’m dying here!”
- Solitude of a Birdcage (Forget Me Not Book 1) <— SECRET LOVE TRIANGLE BETWEEN TWO BEST FRIENDS & ONE’S BOYFRIEND ALERT! Ohhhhh this one sounds romantically angsty!! I only heard about it ’cause book 32 just came out today, and so I was very intrigued… “When Isaac, Savannah’s boyfriend, falls victim to an act of violence that leaves him with no recollection of the prior eighteen months, both women tend to his recovery. For Savannah, it’s simply an attempt to care for the man she loves. For Maxie, it’s a chance at redemption. She tells Isaac nothing of the passionate secrets they’d been keeping from Savannah, nor of the unyielding feelings that nearly consumed them both.“
- Black Lies by Alessandra Torre <— OMG I LOVED THIS ONE!!! Jackie found us this one!! “Just in case you haven’t already seen it Alessandra Torre’s Black Lies is on sale for 99 cents.” (my review)
- Beg Tease Submit – Books 1-3: Submission Series Bundle #1 (The Submission Box Set) by C.D. Reiss <— BUNDLE!!!
- Seven Day Fiancé: A Love and Games Novel by Rachel Harris <— SHE WINS THE BAD BOY AT AN AUCTION & MAKES HIM HER FAKE FIANCE FOR CHRISTMAS!!!! SOUNDS SO SWEET and it’s on super-sale today!! “Her family is expecting her to come home with a fiancé–a fiancé who doesn’t exist. Well, he exists, but he definitely has no idea Angelle told her mama they were engaged. Tattooed, muscled, and hotter than sin, Cane can reduce Angelle to a hot mess with one look–and leave her heart a mess if she falls for him. But when she ends up winning him at a charity bachelor auction, she knows just how to solve her fiancé problem…“

It wasn’t the best idea she’s ever had, but she was desperate—she’s not about to leave her seven-year-old son to be raised by her rigid, overbearing in-laws.” AND!!! “…Libby must deal with her father-in-law’s attempts to declare her an unfit mother, her growing feelings for Wade—a tattooed redneck single dad she met while hiding in a closet at Back to School Night—and the return of her sire, who hasn’t stopped thinking about brave, snarky Libby since he turned her.“

Great list Maryse!
YAY!!!!! That’s right!! I’ll add it now.
Thank you Ela!! I was exhausted by the time I hit the end of it…
Hi Maryse,
My debut novel Safer With You released today! Available on Amazon. It is a contemporary romance with some suspense. I hope you get a chance to check it out! Thanks!
Maryse! Woman! That is one crazy long list. I am still clicking from yesterday’s list. Oh and I have to pre-order from next week’s list. ay ay ay
Maybe I can go into early retirement so I can read at least part of my tbr before I die. :-/
Here’s a big, huge “Thank You”. I don’t even remember what I did to find books before finding your blog.
READING WALK THROUGH FIRE AND OH GOD THE FEELS! MY HEART IS BREAKING AND MY EYES ARE SWEATING BIG! I’M ALREADY DREADING THE ENDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree Ela!!! Stayed up till 4 am because I started Walk through Fire last night…at 20% right now and it hurts!!!
This list is off the chain. Holy crap I don’t even know where to start! Thank you!
I finished up Kian by Tijan. Awww I loved it! Kian was so good, so selfless. I love him. I enjoyed it – I thought the story was original. Definitely recommend it!
Also finished Brando in one day. I enjoyed that as well, but it’s a total cliffie. Part 2 comes out in November.
Oh, AND HOW CAN I FORGET THIS!!
My copy of Gerald’s Game disappeared shortly after I read that book. I never lent it out and I have no idea where it went. I’m sure maybe my sister borrowed it and didn’t tell me or whatever. However, because that book scared me so bad I am literally afraid of it now. I sort of want to reread it, but I’m afraid to have it in my home or on my Kindle.
Don’t hate me because I’m weird.
Just sharing so that Jean knows this book, for me, was the one that kept me up at night with the lights on!
NIKI @ 38% I’M FEELING A LITTLE BIT BETTER BUT OH THE FEELS! I HAVEN’T HAD THIS IN SUCH A LONG TIME I DON’T WANT IT TO END EVER!!!!!!!!!! AND I BELIEVE THIS IS THE LAST TO THE CHAOS FAMILY????
The Wrath of Cain showed up in my library around 11pm last night & I just couldn’t help myself…..finished around 2am…..OMG, the first chapter made my stomach hurt!!! Excellent book though!
I know it’s not a lot but Wrong by Jana Aston is $2.51 right now, down from $2.99. Tiny price drop…..but still a price drop.
The Queen… It’s like my birthday, Christmas & Halloween all rolled up into one juicy package…if that package was on my Kindle & chock full of dirty naughty smut *shrug* cheers friends off with me!
I’m on a biker book roll (just finishing Under Locke) so KA is next.
Looking forward to Thoughtless (are we really going to fall in love with sketchy Griffin??). And The Game Plan because I loved The Hookup and Friend Zone.
Might even add One Kings Way. Samantha Young’s Dublin series are great for a HEA when your heart is feeling a bit shredded. Thanks for another epic list Maryse.
A. Lisa. Freaking. Kleypas. Historical!!!!! And……. can’t get to it for a few more hours. 🙁
Couldn’t wait for the new Kristen Ashley Chaos book. Started today and am 20% through. I have loved every book I’ve read of hers but this may be my first dnf with her. So far not liking either High or Millie. I will keep going though with the hopes it gets better.
Stephanie don’t you hate when that happens. So looking forward to a book only to discover you just don’t gel with the characters.
I very rarely dnf …I will usually plow on through but the books I dnf were all for this reason.
I’d get to a point were I’d wonder why the hell I’m reading about people I don’t even like! When you’re hoping for a meteor or zombie apocalypse to wipe everyone out (& your reading a romance) its time to give up!! 🙂
I would like to announce that November 9 by Colleen Hoover has two very cool twists.
That is all. 🙂
Took a wee break from reading The Queen and guess what just went live?
Lux the third book in the Nocte trilogy by Courtney Cole! YeeHaw!!
Maryse, is November 9 out already or are you reading a review copy? I can’t miss out on a Colleen Hoover book!
Think its due out November 10 for us mere mortals Fabi.
Somebody please find out about Callie Hart releases coming up!!!
Harper Sloan is going to have one coming soon but don’t know when.

Thank you Maryse! This list rocks!
Oh and we should buddy read November 9! Love Colleen Hoover!
I agree Anne…buddy read.
I’f happily read Colleen Hoovers shopping list and love it. *winks*
*I’d……
Completely overwhelmed with books, but that’s a good thing right?
Allison, thanks for the feedback on Gerald’s Game! I have to get that. Wonder what happened to your copy….. That would freak me out a little!
Maryse, so jealous you read November 9 already! Look forward to your review!
I am 55% into The Realm of You and it’s really an interesting book. Very different, but oh so good!!!!
R K Lilley, Bad Things is FREE
I am so happy to read this from Kristen Ashley’s website:
“The Chaos Series
As a spin-off of the Dream Man Series, The Chaos Series has begun.
The first four books have been released through Grand Central Publishing (see above for the latest two releases, Ride Steady and Walk Through Fire).
And never fear, there will be more Chaos unleashed with the stories of Hound, Snapper and Rush.
Lotsa badass biker goodness coming your way! We’ll let you know when these are scheduled to be written and roaring out to you.
Live wild and ride free, sistahs!”
So I stuck it out and finished Walk Through Fire and I’m so glad I did. Once you get through about 30% of book, it really picks up. Very rough at the beginning but if Millie can forgive the way High treats her during that time then I guess I can, although he was very bad. Tack is till my number 1.
What. A. List!!! So overwhelmed by reading goodness!!! Thanks Maryse.
I finally started This Much Is True (Truth In Lies series) by Katherine Owen, that I have had on my tbr list forever, because the last book in the series finally was released. It is sooo good. My tummy is in knots. The angst level is reminiscent of Thoughtless, wondering how this is going to work out. It says book 1 and 2 can be read as standalones, but it is recommended that you read them in order. I haven’t read the blurb for book 2, so not sure if it follows the same MC’s.
WHOA! That list!! I’ve been so tied up with a painting project here at home (because only a dumba$$ plans to paint during a work week just so she can have the weekend free *eyeroll*), and I totally missed the release-day fun here! Now to scroll back up and start my Tuesday one-clicking and catch up on all your comments…
I did not read at all yesterday. *gasp* but tonight, oh tonight. Me and the Cold Hearted Rake. I read one really positive review and on she liked it review, lol.
This review made me laugh though.
https://smartbitchestrashybooks.com/reviews/cold-hearted-rake-lisa-kleypas/
So what is every one reading right now? I haven’t read The Girl with all the Gifts yet either.
Hey…Benedict Arnold!! Yeah, Maryse, I’m talking to YOU! *points at Maryse* You’ve apparently been defecting to November 9 instead of reading TGWATG with me like you said you would. Pshh…whatever. And we’re not going to talk about the fact that I haven’t made it very far into it either. 😉
It’s good so far, but I think the problem I’m having is that I’m craving some emotional turmoil and angst right now. I think I’m going to try alternating TGWATG with something else and see how that works out for me. Maybe I need to check out Cheryl’s tummy-twisting read she mentioned.
Amy that comment you made a bit ago about the one book that still enrages you because of the hero made me laugh. That is the way I am about the heroine and why I can not read your books. Lol.
I’ve neglected my freebie reporting but there are some good ones that I have to post even though I’m crazy tired. I only do it for you 😀 then my brain is turning off for tonight!

Bev, I know! Isn’t it funny how we react differently to certain storylines and characters? Okay, so I have to ask…I know you don’t like books where the h cheats, but how about when the H cheats? Which scenario ruins the book for you?
Thank you Michelle! Hope you get some rest.
Michelle, thank you for the list of freebies! The very first one listed made my heart do a cartwheel. 😉
More the heroine than the hero. But I really haven’t read many….come to think of it. Though I have to stop saying it in absolutes.
Like there is a book greatly loved on here where the h sleeps with bf’s husband. I hated her reasoning. And when she goes after the H she knows he is married. But the H was also cheating and didn’t like him either. At all.
But there is a book I loved where the heroine sleeps with bf’s husband once cause her grief. I didn’t like it or thought ok reason but loved the book and it was lit fiction not Rom.
IDK it depends on the story and characters. Another YA had a triangle and it has h cross a line (PG style) but again really liked it. *shrug*
If I remember correctly did the one get drunk and one night? See that, the break, the get back I can do. Enjoy it. The I love them both or marriage is horrible cause my guy works long hours or doesn’t tell me I’m pretty often enough…..no no no.
But….huge one….I hate when there is a break up and he is off with everyone maybe kids(looking at you KA) and she never even looks at another. Uh no.
Bev I’m with you….I’m kind of ok with cheating in some scenarios but mostly it just turns me off. And if there are kids/marriage…no way. Ever.
I also struggle a bit with a H who behaves like a manwhore one minute (like when they are on a break or when he is suppose to be interested in the h) then a devoted monogamist the next. I know this is fiction and the suspension of reality is required to enjoy it….but I would never trust a guy like that in reality and I struggle to find the appeal in fiction. It is only resolved for me if the H is totally burned by this behaviour….(vengeful much..who me). I’m probably more tolerant of cheating in real life…..maybe because fiction is fantasy, I want it to be ideal and perfect and unrealistic….yep fantasy.
Tee hee!!!!
I’m Benedict Arnold!!!! I’m sorry Amy… I’m SO ready to get into a horror or psych thriller again.
So it’s not rocking your world? I bought “Room” and am dying to give that one a go, too.
Room was very heavy. I read it probably not long after it came out and it stayed with me. It’s one of those books. It will always be with me. I hear a huge kidnapping story in the news, like Elizabeth Smart or thise 4 young girls that were kept together, and I don’t know. I just look at those stories through different eyes since reading Room. Such an amazing, well-written book.
Oh my goodness Maryse. Room is an amazing book. At times I had to put it down and walk away to catch my breath. A child’s POV saves it from becoming unbearably dark I think. Its not one you can forget that’s for sure.
Hmmmm, a book greatly loved on here where the h sleeps with her bf’s husband…now I’m going to drive myself crazy trying to figure that one out to see if I’ve read it.
How funny…see, getting drunk and a one-night thing by the H p!sses me the heck off and I end up hating him, so that’s a no-go for me. I love seeing the differences and similarities we have on here about certain topics. 😀
Nah Maryse, it’s not rocking my world but it’s not boring either. It’s interesting enough to where I really want to see how things will turn out, but I enjoyed it the most before the “reveal.” I kept thinking, WTF is going on?!? And I *loved* that! But then we’re told why the little girl is there fairly quickly, and for me it just slowed down after that. BUT, like I said, I’m still enjoying it.
Room…is that the one by Emma Donoghue?
Amy, you have. Don’t want to say title for those who haven’t but think SOA. First in series, may/Dec, & she always has her ipod and no bra, lol.
Lisa, I think I am a bit harder on the women in books and easier on the men. But Vice versa in real life lol.
No bra?? LOL Bev! I *think* I know which one you’re talking about (if you mean SOA as in the TV show) because of the whole first in series and May/Dec stuff, but the whole iPod and bra thing don’t ring a bell as it’s been a while since I read it, and I don’t remember him being her bf’s husband. Good lord, our memories really do get weaker as time goes on. *sigh*
Thank you Michelle! OMG, if anyone hasn’t read Bad Things, get it and read it! It’s on a bunch of favorite lists for a reason.
First sentence Thursday:
‘A slither of sunlight peeked through the curtains hanging from the single window of the room, blinding me as I opened my crust filled eyes.’
Slammer by Tabatha Vargo.
It’s good, but not as anxious and angsty as I expected.
Omg Amy, I thought I knew what bev was talking about too, but the ipod? Bra? Bf’s husband? That threw me too! Lol!
That’s not a bad first line for you Tessa! Let me go look at mine…..be right back!
You all and cheating books. Honestly, I’m okay with cheating in a book, if there are major repercussions. Not the, “I feel bad” type of repercussions, but the total loss of emotions, trust, that person, etc. I read one where the person cheated and it was just “Sorry”, feels bad, then forgiveness. I was all wtf? It was the girl who cheated, but that doesn’t matter to me. I was more upset with the H for forgiving her so easily.
Okay, I’m going to cheat a little because I can’t resist sharing the first paragraph with you: “I wasn’t one to brag, but I had a good life. Screw that. I was one to brag and I was going to do it as often and as loudly as I could, because I had the greatest f$!king life in all of the history of great lives. Not many people could boast like I could boast. Not many people were in the most successful band in the world. Just me. Oh, and my bandmates. I guess. Whatever.”
Untamed (Thoughtless #4) by S.C. Stephens……Omg typical Griffin! Being inside his head is just as you can imagine……CRAZY!!!!!!
I’m with you Tessa! Cheating is a major problem for me, no matter which was is doing it!
That’s a great paragraph Jean.
My first line:
THE MANSION was a monstrosity.
Stygian by Santino Hassell
It’s my one consecion to Halloween 😉
“Her name is Melanie.” ~ The Girl With All the Gifts
😐
Thanks, Tessa. Your suckyfirstlineitis has latched onto me. 😛
ROFL Amy! That does suck! Hahaha!
*saves the word ‘suckyfirstlineitis ‘* I love that word so much.
Jean, again JEALOUS! 🙂
Oh, forgot to say. Finished Slammer. It was meh. I should have felt more, way more. Instead it felt rushed without details. :/
New first line:
‘Holy Mary, mother of God, the man was naked.’
Suddenly Beautiful by Boone Brux.
I’m two whole paragraphs in, so I’ve no idea how it is. It’s one of those, huh, interesting… books. 🙂
Lol Tessa. Now you have my attention.
Omg Tessa! Now THAT first line rocks!
Two more freebies for ya: Diamonds by KA Linde and Kiss the Sky by Krista & Becca Ritchie
“So here’s the file that almost killed me, Director.” Illuminae by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff
Ooohhh, you’re reading Illuminae? That one is high up on my tbr. Let me know what you think of it.
Has everyone noticed how much the original covers are changing on our books. I’ll be looking through my Kindle and think I see a book I forgot about, but no, it’s a new cover. And with some of them, I loved the old cover. Grrr….. one in particular, A Second Chance at Paris! Loved the old cover! (Fabi have you noticed that?)
Yes, I saw the new covers right before they went live. I like the new ones, they’re beautiful. But, like you, I loved the original one. I don’t know about the new ones, but I know the Cole McCade designed the original ASCaP and the Lost covers himself.
Check out the cover of Stygian. The title and cover are what drew me to the book. It’s a new author for me and I’m pleasantly surprised at the quality of the writing. I can’t keep highlighting or my whole book is going to turn yellow. :-/
…I think the house is haunted
…I think the woods are dangerous
…I think the landlords are vampires, or ghosts, or werewolfs, or serial killers, or immortals, or GAH…
…I think I better keep reading
I do like some of the new covers better, but really loved ASCaP’s original cover! Ohhhh Stygian cover is cool. Keep me updated on that one!
yup, I agree, that original one pulled at my heartstrings
I’ll let you know how this one goes. I’m only at 25% but I keep sneak reading at work. shhhh don’t tell
Lol fabi! I’m sneak reading at work too (well, in between checking my personal email for messages from Maryse’s blog)!
*blushes* Erm, half-naked. I seemed to have forgotten a very important word there. Though, naked would have been nice too.
Anyone who wants to read Diamond and Gold, *points to Michelle’s post* Seriously, that first one was insane. The second was good too, though healing. The other two to be released are more standalones about her friends, so no worries about not getting a complete series.
I think I may win the suckyfirstlineitis award today.
‘We’re driving.” This Much Is True (Truth In Lies Book 1) by Katherine Owen.
I just finished this book and for the majority of it, I needed Manny and the blanket cave. I haven’t felt this much gut-twisting since Thoughtless and The Opportunist. KILLED.ME. Only complaint is the ending. Too soon. Oh well, on to book 2…
Ooooooo Cheryl, you said a lot of magical words there, Thoughtless, The Opportunist, gut twisting……I’m on it!
Jean, I’m going to list the first line to book 2 since I’m starting it now AND it’s going to hurt just as much as book 1 I think! The blurb uses the word shattered. Amy, poor Manny’s taking a beating, this is rough.
“Thirty miles.” The Truth About Air & Water – Book 2 (Truth In Lies) by Katherine Owen. Yep, another great first line!
Haha Cheryl! That’s priceless!
Cheryl, you sold me too!
Fabi, excited to read Illuminae – with all the great reviews and that blurb, I couldn’t resist splurging. Fingers crossed it hits my dystopian sweet spot 😀
Lol. It is prob the book you are thinking off. She slept with bf’s crazy husband to punish herself because of her own crazy husband. But bf crazy too. So she’s all what evs I’m in love with this biker I used to have threesomes with.
“The Devil knows why my life should be ruined,” Devon Ravenel said grimly, ” all because a cousin I never liked fell from a horse.” The Cold Hearted Rake by Lisa Kleypas.
Cheryl, you have suckyfirstlineitis too. Though, you still have me intrigued.
Suddenly Beautiful was cute, but seemed like it might have been her first book. A lot of cliche’s for what is a fun plot, and slowed it. Also, some characters weren’t as full fleshed as they could be. Still cute. 🙂
I was excited for the new Kleypas Bev, but then the reviews seem really mixed. Curious to hear what you think.
I’m actually getting giddy over Cheryl’s promises of gut-twisting angst from the Truth in Lies books…I am SO ready for the turmoil!! Looks like I’ve found my reads for this weekend. 😀
Okay, hang on a sec…was her crazy BFF from a wealthy family and she had a hankering for threesomes? Because I think some of that is coming back to me now…
Nice, Tessa. *pbltttttt* You pass your suckyfirstlineitis to me and then you get a great first line. 😛
Ah another great list!! My tbr is bursting, I’m so overwhelmed! Haha (for real though ;)) Autumn Thorns sounds amazing and I saw that Jeaniene Frost had good things to say about it and her Night Huntress series is one of my all time favorite series, BUT it is a series and the next one doesn’t come out until next year so i dk if I’m up for it just yet. The Fall Up looks awesome too.
Michelle I have seen the mixed reviews too. I posted the one from Smart Bitches –made me laugh. Not that concerned because fist book and a lot of times those are not the best but still good.
Amy. Yes bf and her husband were very rich.
omg idk what book y’all are talking about with cheating threesomes but omg
You’ve stumped me too. I don’t know what book you guys are talking about…..and I thought I did.
YES!!! I know which one it is now!!
Jean it is probably the one you are thinking of.
She also wears chucks.
Big age difference as they meet when she is a child.
I don’t remember a best friend and threesome in that one.
Oh, wait. sorry. Let me clarify. I do know which one, but I really, I don’t remember the threesome thing though.
Unteachable by Leah Raeder is 1.99…REALLY good teacher-student read. 😉
Thank you Amy! That one was good!! I posted it on today’s Friday post. 😀
Tessa, the threesome was between her BFF and two other guys and was only talked about.
Alright, I need a paranormal that I probably already have or is in KU that is extra steamy. I thought I bought the Beyond series bundle by Kit Rocha, but nope. *growls* I only have book one. *read already*
Any suggestions?
Oh, and a good story! That part is important too. Is the Two Kings (Afterlfe) steamy?
Oh! That explains why I forgot about it. I think I just never liked her friend too much.
My 1st first line Thursday : “The story of Terisa and Geraden began very much like a fable.” – The Mirror Of Her Dreams. I’m only 13% in and it feels like I’ve been reading forever. Not a whole lot has happened yet and it’s long. Like 654 pages. It’s still early yet but I hope it starts picking up, I’m feeling a little squirrelly! 😛 I got a copy of Soulless from the Halloween list and I really liked the sample for that.
I was going to run out of ways to describe it but was having fun with it.
Tessa, I haven’t read it but maybe the Bastard by inez Kelly. I read a Suzanna Wright before and on steamy side.
I usually delete my books off of my ereader after reading. But just realized have not wanted to with Carry On yet. It always takes a few days with her books to not open and read random parts.
Ohhh Ive got a good first line(s). No suckyfirstlineitis for me!
‘I’m super wasted. Like, messed up to the point that Lance, my teammate has two sets of eyes.’
Pucked Up. Helena Hunting.
Bev I know which book you are talking about! The chucks and big age difference gave it away lol I did like that book though.
Reading Cold Hearted Rake and liking it so far 🙂
The Bastard looked good so I wish listed it. I think Two Kings is my answer just based on it being good. 🙂 Thank you Bev!
Lisa, I think that’s my next read. 🙂
Oh just one clicked Reckless Abandon 😀
Tessa, I have books 1 through 4 of the Beyond series if you want to borrow them…let me know. 😉
I read 1 in 2013 (according to my amazon history) and remember it was excessively hot. I just really thought I bought the bundle. I remember just wanting to read that couple because I just adored them. I may take you up on that later, Amy. I’m reading another of your recommendations instead. Only like, three pages in, but still loving it. 😀
Was 1-4 a bundle?
NVM. I found what I got. I got the Captive series, and got that confused with the Beyond series. *shakes head* TOO MANY BOOKS!
Ok reading book 2 The Truth About Air & Water and just have to say that it’s going to be angsty like book 1, but I’m not sure if I like the premise of it. Just seems again like communication and if you love someone you’ll stand by them and understand when things are out of their control and why does she have to be a mystery. We’ll see…
Ok, I did know what book you were talking about. Don’t remember the threesome either.
Lisa, Pucked Up! Love that first line and I loved the first book! I had preordered it but haven’t gotten to it yet!
Cheryl, you have me intrigued with both books!
*sigh* My sister is leaving me tomorrow and I will be sad…
But I have you guys so now I’m happy again!! <3 😀
Now i’m backtracking on all of these… I miss you guys!
We missed you too. Boy, you can tell it’s the day before Halloween with all the quiet today.
Aw Maryse…I’m sad for you that your sis has to leave tomorrow, but you’re right that you have us here! *big snuggly hug* I love knowing I can usually find at least one or two friends hanging around here at any given time…and when even more ladies show up then it’s REALLY a party!! 😀
Tessa! I LOVE the Captive series! I read Braith’s father’s book (Broken) not too long ago, and I seriously went into it believing I would have no sympathy for him whatsoever because he was so awful in Braith’s and Ara’s books. Holy moly!! *I* was “broken” by the end of it. As in crying and snuffling all over Manny and my heart hurt and I just needed a hug SO badly. Not kidding. Erica Stevens broke my freaking heart with that one.
And I have a lump in my throat and my eyes are watery now. *sniffle*
*huggles* Awww. I haven’t gotten that far. I think? I’m still on three. Here’s the thing. It’s either that or I finished it. My problem is there was another book out that was the same premise. In the Captive books, did they go to what used to be California?
*scratches head* That doesn’t sound familiar but I could have just forgotten it. I don’t remember I’d specific places were mentioned. First three books were Braith and Ara, fourth book was Braith’s brother (which was great as well!) and fifth book was the prequel about Atticus, Braith’s father.
Where’s Fabi?…FABI! I have to share my utter excitement over Illuminae! About a third of the way done and I already know it’s in my top 10 for the year and will likely climb if the pace keeps up…just OMG I’ve never read anything like it! To put it in terms you will understand, I’m Red Rising excited 😉 Back to reading…I can’t see myself stopping unless I fall asleep by accident!
Then I finished some other series I can’t remember the name of. Awesome. That means I still have two captive books to read, plus number five. Now to figure out the other vampire apocalypse book. *sighs* I should give up on keeping track of all the vampire books I’ve read.
Michelle!!! WOW I’m psyched about it now. I was going to read Pucked Up next but I may have to jump right into Illuminae.
Although I won’t be doing any reading this weekend. It’s move weekend. 🙁 but 🙂
Anyways, I’m not even halfway through Stygian yet.
But…I am so excited about Illuminae now!!!
Thank you thank you thank you.
I’ve been following along with the RR read on GR so that comparison just hit me -boom!-
Michelle what’s it about?
I stayed up half the night but I finished a 600 page book in less than 24 hours because it was FANTASTIC!!! What’s it about Bev? I like how Jay Kristoff sums it up on goodreads (check out the first review) – sounds crazy right! If you are not into space or zombies or anything dytopian or scifi, I can say it doesn’t matter and everyone should read, no experience, this book. The way it’s presented is uber unique – words and images in an artful weave that IMPACTS more than either alone; dialogue is conveyed in a way that makes it seem like you are living it not reading it. Seriously my mind is blown!! 5 HUGE stars!! It at least ties Red Rising for my favorite read of the year and maybe nudges it a little for just absolute novelty. Fabi, I can hardly contain myself waiting for you to get to this epic read! I’m buying the hardcover asap…I hope more authors jump into this format…ughh I have to stop gushing and get ready for work *deep breath* 🙁
Holy crap! Micheeeelle. I’m moving this weekend and can’t read. waaaaaaaa
Oh my God, I can’t wait to get my hands on that book. You’re getting the hard copy? I have a B&N GC, maybe I should just go get the book.
Oh Fabi I feel bad squeeing all over the place when you do not have reading time but I haven’t been as excited over a book since Red Rising really…not that I haven’t read some amazing books this year but the out of the box presentation, genre-bending uniqueness reminds me why I love reading. It has been complete book fog all day and I recommended it to sooo many people! For those who took the leap with Station Eleven it’s as beautifully packaged and has a lot of romance albeit the YA version but still satisfies. The visual aspect of the book beyond the words is what would be awesome to have in hardcover. Some of the print on the images was very small in the kindle version and I had to strain a little. Still readable and enjoyable but the hardcover will be like a work of art.
Alright, I’m getting the hard cover. Can’t wait!
I’m dying to go get it too! I know the images will be better in the hardcover. It’s really funny in some spots too which was surprising. There’s a little of everything – mayhem, action, explosions, love, wit, secrets, heartbreak…GAH just read it, I need someone to fangirl over it with me!!
I will! At this point I’m ready to crawl into one of these boxes with the book and pull the kids closed over me.
600 pages in 24 hours! I foresee a sleepless night for myself.
Wait. I know the book. You just jogged my memory. Saw it in this post and thought how fun they looked. This is it?
https://bookriot.com/2015/10/19/buy-borrow-bypass-illuminated-novels/
Um, Fabi. Why do you have kids in a box? I thought you didn’t do scary Halloween stuff.;-)
hahaha autocorrect strikes a Halloween punch. I meant *lids.
hmmm that review isn’t stellar but it does confirm Michelle’s opinion that it needs to be read in hardcover. The publisher may have missed an opportunity to make it truly interactive in eBook format.
Fabi, I have definitely read books that felt to slow. But generally it seems like a group of us sometimes love the books that I see others say are to long and slow moving.
That’s true. I’m partial to long books myself. And with Michelle flipping over it I KNOW I’m going to love it.
The blurb sounds pretty good for Illuminae but your reactions make it sound much better. Normally I wouldn’t have been attracted to this one, but the way you guys are going on about it, I think I need a temporary genre change!
Oh double woohoo. That would be awesome Maryse! I’m picking up the hard copy asap.
Maryse! I will flip even more if you read it!! Sometimes a nice genre change is just what you need and this one is guaranteed like nothing you have read before!
