Okay so I’m awaiting Evelyn’s confirmation on her latest reader “Guess the book” question, so in the meantime, I’m posting this in case someone here has an idea if any of the answers already provided are correct or if they want to venture their own guess!
Evelyn needs our book/author help! Maybe someone here knows? She asks:
“Hey – I have an “author” question that you might have the answer to. We’ve been talking about this at work, and both of us have read the series of books, but can’t remember the author’s name. I tried looking it up on the library site, since I get my books from there, to no avail.
The books are initially about a geologist/alchemist who discovers a secret, and of course the “other side” that wants the power for themselves. Then each of the books going forward (thru the centuries) expounds on this.
I know this may not be much to go on……. they were such great stories, I just had to try to figure out the author’s name. Hope you’ve read these and know who I’m talking about. I know it’s a shot in the “dark”.”
Lauren: Is it Dark Alchemy series by Laura Bickle?
Maryse: Or is it Deborah Harkness’s “A Discovery of Witches“? Let me know Evelyn, and if it’s not our guesses, I’ll post it to see what other readers come up with. :)
Evelyn: Thanks for the suggestions, but neither of those authors are it.
Jacqueline: A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness?
Maryse’s Book Blog: I guessed that one too, Jacqueline (I read book #1) but she said it wasn’t it…
Jacqueline: Ok, I didn’t think it quite fit… What about Torrent by Lindsay Buroker
Monique: Elizabeth Hunter series?
Colleen: Amanda Quick… Arcane Society
Carrie: that’s the one i was thinking of, too!
Dotti: I was thinking that as well, The Arcane Society by Amanda Quick, and under her other name Jane Ann Krentz. She also uses the name Jayne Castle. If I’m not mistaken, she used all three names in that series. It was hard to keep track of which book was next. Confusing.
Kathleen: I didn’t know she had a third pen name…checking into this
A Hidden Fire: Elemental Mysteries Book One <— MichelleS (one of our resident paranormal addicts) thinks it could be this one, saying: “Elemental Mysteries – LOVE IT!!! One of the best Urban Fantasies I’ve ever read. Strong characters. Good writing. Slowly unfolding and world building. Fantastic.”
Maryse’s Book Blog: Ohhh excellent! Okay I’ll let her know and see if it’s the one.
