Another series that gets recommended on a regular basis:
Sandy:
“… should add Parasol Protectorate series to your list which was absolutely deliciously wonderful and amusing. Vampires, werewolfs, ghosts and of course the soulless. It is by Gail Carriger.”
and Leslie’s enthusiastic email to me, saying it was a MUST READ:
“TRUST ME YOU WILL LOVE IT my favorite read last year. I am in a local book club … and it was voted our favorite read as a whole group too.”
As per the author:
The Parasol Protectorate Series books are comedies of manners set in Victorian London: full of vampires, dirigibles, and tea. They are either Jane Austen doing urban fantasy, or PG Wodehouse doing steampunk.
Alexia Tarabotti is laboring under a great many social tribulations. First, she has no soul. Second, she’s a spinster whose father is both Italian and dead. Third, she is being rudely attacked by a vampire to whom she has not been properly introduced! Where to go from there? From bad to worse apparently, for Alexia accidentally kills the vampire, and the appalling Lord Maccon (loud, messy, gorgeous, and werewolf) is sent by Queen Victoria to investigate.
- Soulless
- Changeless
- Blameless (The Parasol Protectorate)
- Heartless (The Parasol Protectorate)
- Timeless (expected release date March 1st 2012)
This was voted best read in my local bookclub as was my vote 100% Love the funny english humor and the character will be ones you will not soon forget. Dying in anticipation for the 4th book Hearless.
I would like to recommend the Clockwork Agents series by Kate Cross. It has the fun steam-punk feel to it with a great mix of everything else we love!
