Kresley Cole – Immortals After Dark Series Reading Order

by Maryse on March 30, 2009 · 58 comments

in Kresley Cole, Reading Order Guide:

I loved this series (and so did my mom!!). An addictive and funny, passion-filled series that will have you consuming each one after the next. A world where witches, vampires, werewolves, valkyrie, and “others”co-exist. Families and alliances, enemies and foes. One by one, every new installment focuses on a new paranormal power struggle, often between equally matched opponents. But the twist? The enemies in battle are often appalled (and titillated) when they realize they are destined mates.

As per the author’s website:

Every creature or being that was thought to be mythical . . . isn’t.

They all secretly exist alongside humans and enjoy the gift of immortality. There are hundreds of different kinds: from Vampires to Lykae, from Furies to Shifters, from the Fey to Valkyries.

These immortals call their world The Lore.

You may have had a brush with one of Lorekind already. The eccentric billionaire with hypnotic charisma—and an aversion to sunlight. The ethereal waif of impossible beauty—whose fingernails look more like claws. The Highlander with a seventeenth-century Scottish accent and animal magnetism—who can never be penciled in on the night of the full moon.

They walk among us, but they war among themselves. Each faction has its strengths, weaknesses, and age old prejudices against the others. Every five hundred years, the Accession, a battle for supremacy, rages. That time is now. . . .

As per Kresley Cole regarding the future of the series:

“After 2011, there will be at least four more full-length novels (including Lothaire’s book in early 2012). There really is no end in sight for the series. I have another dozen plotted out, so I’m ready for more if you are!”

Plese don’t stop writing this series, I was hoping Ms cole would back to some oh the character and do a 2 book such as Lochan and Emma, they really need another book, Murdock and his brothers finding there Sisters, and the Demond boys

MP October 23, 2010 at 1:58 PM

Hi,
I was just wondering if any of you have an idea if Ms. Cole wrote the story of Lanthe and Thronos from the book `kiss of a demon king`?
I’m not sure if I miss it and if not if there are rumours of it coming out?

Nikki October 24, 2010 at 8:58 AM

i think the next book you should write should be a book about regin and one of the lykae twin brothers. i think they would make a very intersting pair.

rachel osborne March 26, 2011 at 1:05 PM

BCH April 11, 2011 at 1:20 PM

I have never loved books as much as I love these!!! I can’t seem to put them down!! I love how each book is tied together and all the stories are in the same world!!! I get so caught up in them and I am almost done with Kiss of a Demon King and I just started it! I have to start limiting how many pages I read so I don’t spend my entire day reading it! I really really hope she writes a lot more because these books are just too good to end!

Maryse April 13, 2011 at 8:20 AM

I “marathon” read this series also. I have a few favorites, but a standout for me was Cade’s book.

LauraLee April 18, 2011 at 12:47 PM

Like so many others who have raved about Kresley Cole’s phenominally written Immortals After Dark series, I, too, believe many of these stories NEED a follow-up book! Lady Cole don’t you even dare to think of retiring…and please write faster.

Maryse April 22, 2011 at 7:48 AM

Hi Laura! How did you like her latest one? Any favorites?

Teiana June 17, 2011 at 3:14 PM

This series makes me *blush*. The books never get old, I could read they all day, and each story gets better. Dark Needs at Night’s Edge (book 4) was my favorite. I feel in love with Conrad.

Maryse June 17, 2011 at 4:58 PM

Oh yes that is one of my favorites too!. But the first demon brother book. That one was my favorite for sure.

Theresa August 10, 2011 at 2:34 PM

I’m on Cade’s book now. Everytime I finish one of the books I say to my self “that has to be my favorite” And then I read the next one. I seriously can not choose. I love them all!

Marion August 16, 2011 at 9:44 AM

Cole’s book is also my favourite…but I just finished re-reading Kaderine and Sebastion’s book. Love love loved it!! So hard to decide!! Can’t wait for Lothaire”s book!

Maryse August 20, 2011 at 10:41 AM

I love this series, and my mom has just finished (and loved it) too!

amber September 6, 2011 at 12:58 AM

I love this series!!!!! I just finished the last one. :-( can’t wait til Luther comes out……even though I can’t decide whether I like him or hate him.

Elsy September 7, 2011 at 11:41 PM

This series is awesome!!!!!!!I have friends at work addicted just like me. Miss Cole has a great mind for a story. I have read all the books and can’t wait for the next one. My favorite books would have to be Bowen and Maris book and Crows and Malcolm. I read alot and have favorite authors, but Miss Cole is part of my top three.

Mandy September 19, 2011 at 6:17 PM

I just started this series and I love it already I am on the second book :)

Kristin October 4, 2011 at 12:46 PM

I just have to say that this series is quickly rising up to one of my favorites! Cade and Holly’s story totally made me smile! Also, wanted to say to Maryse that I LOVE your site, and think that it’s awesome that you help out nerds like me find out the next book in a series, or a really good series to read! Thank you!

Maryse October 6, 2011 at 12:07 PM

Awww Kristin!! Thank you!! I’m so glad to help – I’m always on the lookout for something good.

I LOVED Cade’s story. One of my favorites, for sure!

Lola November 7, 2011 at 11:37 PM

Jun January 23, 2012 at 4:19 AM

I Love This Series!! I re-read the series about every six months. Usually when I have to hold off buying any new books for a week or two. lol I love this web site it really helps me when I am looking for something new or different to read.

nadia torregano January 25, 2012 at 11:48 AM

Love love love the series! But I cannot figure out which book is #7 in the series???

Maryse January 25, 2012 at 11:51 AM

Nadia

Book #7 is Pleasure of a Dark Prince (Immortals After Dark).

The list above is the exact reading order guide (in the order you should read the books)

I hope that helps!

Lucia January 27, 2012 at 11:46 PM

I’ve not read any of the books in this series…do you need to read them in order for them to make sense? I’m totally excited to start! :)

Maryse January 28, 2012 at 9:08 AM

Hi Lucia! Yes, it is best to read them in order as there are character introductions throughout and a progressing story line in the background of each main story. :)

Debbie January 31, 2012 at 2:33 PM

My Lothaire review on Amazon…

Wowza…. I mean…. WOOOOWWWWZZZAAAAAA!!! At first I was thinking I should reread the series so that I could flow right into Lothaire, but no need… Picks right up where she left off in Dreams of a Dark Warrior…. I must say, the Enemy of Old in past books, made me think he was old and wrinkly… BUT NO WAY… he’s hotter than hot… I have to admit, he pisses me off A LOT in this book, but I guess a little anger never hurt anyone, especially when it melts into that hot steamy hunk of a man… and in the words of Maryse (www.maryse.net) SQUEEEEEEEEE…. He’s a beautiful Alpha male with money, looks, and badass ways… and what could be better than our little Miss human, Elizabeth to tame that mutha!!! Lots of ups and downs, tears, and of course always laughs… that damn crew of Vaulkeries and Witches…. “Nickle beers and disco bowling” I’M IN!!! FIVE STARS….

Debbie Besabella February 19, 2012 at 2:39 PM

Recently started this series and already in LOVE with it. Just finished Kaderin and Sebastian’s book, which was even better than the first book in the series. If Cole continues to raise the bar with each novel, I think my head will pop off from all the sex and passion. Everyone has recently been raving about Lothaire’s book and that’s got me all excited to pummel through this series.

Leticia April 30, 2012 at 11:15 AM

Thank you soo much for posting which book comes first-last in the series! I had never heard of Kresley until I picked up a random book in a drug store (McGrath&Lucia) and fell IN LOVE with the way Kresley writes, and the plots, action and romance in her novel! I then read a few others…out of order, but still amazing! With this list, I will now go back and read them all in order! :)

Ife A. May 14, 2012 at 2:10 PM

I love this series. I’m currently trying to buy all the books and read them in chronological order, because the four or five I have read have been all different parts of the story. I really enjoy the way she makes the characters (mainly the Valkyries) current, even though they are hundreds or thousands of years old. And how she tries to capture the Scottish accent of then Lykae clan! It’s all so good. The “romance” part is almost secondary to her awesome storytelling :)

Dawn June 28, 2012 at 6:10 AM

The only one’s of Kresley Coles Immortals after Dark Series books that i have not read are Nikolai and Myst’s story and Lothaire’s book and i just have to say they are all simply FAN-FREEEECAN-TASTIC. If i had to pick one fav of the series i think it would be Pleasure of a Dark Prince: Garreth and Lucia’s or as the lykae pronounces it Lousha’s story.MacRieve is just sooooooooo Yummy!!!! I hope that Miss Cole keeps the series going and going and going.with stories about the lykae twins, Kristoff the Forbearer King, and all the other creatures of the Lore.

Kimmy September 14, 2012 at 5:13 PM

First and foremost I have to tell you Maryse, that I am so thankful to have found you!!! I adore the IAD series! I can wait until November. I can’t pick a favorite book in this series, but I really like Nix and Reign’s characters!

I am an avid reader and now that I have found someone with the same reading interests, I am so excited to read all of your suggestions.

Again, thank you and I am looking forward to keeping up with your blog!

Tiffani November 4, 2012 at 1:04 AM

Just found this series today and I’m already hooked

Stephanie November 12, 2012 at 1:15 PM

I always thought the series went
The warlord wants forever, a hunger like no other, no rest for the wicked, wicked deeds on a winter’s night, dark needs at nights edge, dark desires after dusk, kiss of a demon king, deep kiss of winter, pleasure of a dark prince, demon from the dark, dreams of a dark warrior, Lothaire, Macrueve(5/14/13). Am I wrong? xD

Maryse November 12, 2012 at 1:25 PM

I included the “Shadow’s Claim” “spinoff” book in the series reading order since it is a part of the series and due to Lothaire’s book, many might want to read this one after it. As per the publisher: “a new paranormal series following the royal bloodline of Dacia, a vampire kingdom hidden within the Lore of the Immortals After Dark.”

Tiffani November 22, 2012 at 11:46 PM

All caught up and I’m having difficulty starting something new I went through the same thing after finishing black dagger I was thinking about the fever series what’s your thoughts on it

Anony December 29, 2012 at 9:36 PM

I love this series. I seriously have such a hard time finding anything else that is better than IAD. I NEED at LEAST 3 books each year! I wish Mrs.Cole could write faster! She is so very talented. I can’t wait for the next book. Can anyone elaborate further? Will it be about the twins, Uilleam and Munro? The suspense is killing me! <3

P.S. My favorite story is Lachlain and Emma. I love him and want him for my own! Though, Cade was so charming and heroic…And Trehan was so intense…tough to choose just one favorite!

cristina March 21, 2013 at 12:05 PM

IAD..my first paranormal reading ..the best . I m from romania and all my life i hire stories of vampiri, demon, lupine like humans…but this is a nice fantasy ….the romance i want more..Ms Cole do not stop writing

Queenbol May 12, 2013 at 5:08 AM

You forgot Deep Kiss of Winter! D:

Maryse May 12, 2013 at 5:19 AM

It’s up there. ;) it’s called “Untouched” in the Deep Kiss of Winter Anthology.

Queenbol May 13, 2013 at 7:21 AM

Oooh yeah. Woops. Yeah I’m not very observant…

Gynnie July 14, 2013 at 5:49 AM

I like following your blog as it shows the books in reading order. I’m on the Kresley Cole marathon read now.

Thanks.

Sari July 25, 2013 at 2:42 PM

I accidently”found this series and read the first book. HOOKED immediately. Have just finished the last book written, I think withdrawals are quite likely. I am not a Re-reader, but am seriously contemplating starting back on the first book. I LOVED this series. Thank you Ms Cole and your brilliant, funny, sexy imagination!!!!! I am so glad that you have more to look forward to. So, really, you don’t have time to read this, get back on your computer and continue…sorry to interrupt!!!!

Jean August 17, 2013 at 10:47 PM

Jacqui October 19, 2013 at 3:30 PM

HELP! Just finished the series with MacRieve. What do I read next?

Tania November 4, 2013 at 11:13 PM

I am half way into MacReive and I’m so sad to finish the series! I’ve read the series – each book finished within 2 days. Now I’m going to finish the series and feel so lost! What do I read next? I’m probably going to re-read a few I guess…
Do you have any suggestions on what to read next? I’ve been told to start the. Mortal instruments series…
I really hope Cole writes about Melanthe and perhaps a bit of insight into the “phanTom” lol. And regin and even Nix!!! Getting excited to even think about it haha!!!

Amy November 14, 2013 at 11:59 AM

Love these books.

Christa February 2, 2014 at 12:05 AM

I really would love to know what books comes after Macrieve. There is a prologue at the end about his Munro but I can’t find any information on it. Please for the love of God let it be released already or in the works. Please help a girl out.

tytytyty.

Kat February 4, 2014 at 11:17 AM

I’ve read each of these books about a million times. I just started reading them again yesterday and I go about a book a day! What I really want to read, so much, is Nix’s story. But I know that Nix’s story will most likely be the last so I can wait a little longer! No better way to go out than with a Nucking Futs crazy Valkyrie :)

Saadat February 5, 2014 at 12:20 PM

Love this series. Especially A hunger like no other and Kiss of a Demon King. Just wonderful novels all of them. I read only 7 books, 1,2,3,7,9,11,13. Now I’m reading 4th novel.

Brooklyn February 6, 2014 at 7:54 PM

Do you have to read them all to understand are they related like that? My bf is reading the 13th book first he dosent think he missing anything but is he? Shld i read them all?

Tania February 6, 2014 at 8:37 PM

In my opinion I’d say read them in order. Once you get into it, you will find yourself on the second or third book and you’ll understand why it’s good to have started with book one. I read them all in order – which included reading the books on my iPad (I didn’t have all the books and it was too addictive to worry about buying them etc)!
I was also thinking whether I needed to read them in order but nearly all comments from other fans said to read I order and I’m glad I listened :)

roxanne April 8, 2014 at 9:27 AM

I love love love the whole series!!!
and yes please do read them in order :) just for all the little cameo’s and hints and flash backs. I think so much would be lost if I’d have read them in a different order. (for example, lothaire wouldn’t be so mysterious in the beginning if you already read his story.)

Btw for all you valkyries out there, I found a website with IAD inspired nailpolish :D http://www.etsy.com/nl/shop/PawsbyEddie
