Here’s one that has been recommended by both Dawn and Natalie. Natalie says:
“I dont know if you have this one on your list yet but I recommend you read the Vampire Journals series. Its definitely different from the rest of the vampire books. It has a lot of history, time travel, vampires and a hot leading man.”
and Kitty agrees:
“…about a girl named Caitlin who is in her teens and finds out very quickly she is more than human. The series has everything I think most true readers love, romance, heart break, conflicting feelings, betrayal, a profound journey to save the world and true love on many levels…”
About book #1:
“Eighteen year old Caitlin Paine finds herself uprooted from her nice suburb and forced to attend a dangerous New York City high school when her Mom moves again. The one ray of light in her new surroundings is Jonah, a new classmate who takes an instant liking to her. But before their romance can blossom, Caitlin suddenly finds herself changing.
She is overcome by a superhuman strength, a sensitivity to light, a desire to feed–by feelings she does not understand. She seeks answers to what’s happening to her, and her cravings lead her to the wrong place at the wrong time. Her eyes are opened to a hidden world, right beneath her feet, thriving underground in New York City.
She finds herself caught between two dangerous covens, right in the middle of a vampire war. It is at this moment that Caitlin meets Caleb, a mysterious and powerful vampire who rescues her from the dark forces. He needs her to help lead him to the legendary lost artifact. And she needs him for answers, and for protection. Together, they will need to answer one crucial question: who was her real father? But Caitlin finds herself caught between two men as something else arises between them: a forbidden love. A love between the races that will risk both of their lives, and will force them to decide whether to risk it all for each other…”

Really, really want to like this one but my goodness it sure as some really bad reviews! For 0.99 I’ll still check it out but I think the main complaints are very poor editing, grammor errors and cheesy story line….some good reviews as well but the amount of bad ones have me skittish!
Hi Julie!
I haven’t read it at all yet, so I can’t go on my own experience, but I totally get you. Editing issues can really be disturbing…
Well. If you do read one, I’d love to hear what you think. Right now I’m still on my bad-boy Alpha kick, and already have my TBR pile in order with them 🙂
Okay, I just got this update from Natalie (on my Facebook page):
“Been reading the series. I recommend it. A great read.”
Thanks , Maryse 🙂 I’ve been following your blog for at least a year and a half but never posted until I found you on Face Book, but I love your recs! I will always be in debt to you for finding the Fifty Trilogy, OMG I blushed while reading it but SOOOO good!! And I just finished “Captive In The Dark” and it was a hard read but I couldn’t stop! Upsetting but amazing read!! Anyway, thanks so much for being our novel “Guinea Pig” :))
LOL!! Glad to take on that title 😉
Hi Julie,
I have read all 7 of the Vampire Journals. Now, for the good part.. the characters are addicting and the overall story concept is good. However, the grammatical errors, spelling errors, name switching (saying one person is talking when it’s supposed to be someone else) is very distracting and I have noticed in almost every book that the same general things happen, when you read past the 3rd book you’ll know what I mean. BUT, for some silly reason no matter how much it bugs me I still love the characters and I have read all of them out up to date.. Hope this helps!
I agree with julie. I am looking forward to number 8 , I took my kindle with me all the time. Please let me know when number is ready for down load. Thankyou
This is the first series I have ever read that i have read so fast! I love the main and complete concept of the series. I really do enjoy it. But the constant grammatical errors, word choicing, and constant saying of the same thing makes me dislike the books just a bit.
In almost every chapter of the 3rd through 4th book, all the chapters started out with ‘Caitlin Ran’ . I dislike the author using the same sentences, frases, concepts, and words for each chapter.
I did end up skipping a total of about 25% of the chapters through the series just so i could get to read about Caitlin and Caleb. I didn’t really like all of the Kyle , Sam , Polly , and other non-main character input for a full chapter.
Also, another dislike, everytime they would time travel Caitlin would always end up with Polly and Aiden and always attend some dance or whatever…
Sorry if this was a rant, but on the good side. The books are great! I have read 3 books in a days time (4-6) and really enjoyed the series, great experience 🙂
I totally agree with Emilee they are distracting but the whole character and concept idea is great, although, Caitlin does get on my nerves with jumping to conclusions all the time…
I’m in the middle of book 7 in the vampire journals. I love the over all books but there are alot of mistakes in the writing to get past. The other thing I’m not loving is how caitlin’s whole world starts and ends with the men in her life. She’s so strong in one way and so vulnerable and weak in another. Not in a good way either! Still I really like this series. The history and different time periods is great. I just found your page tonight and I’m so glad. I love reading. I’m definitely going to check out your picks. Thanks a lot!!
Kayla
try reading the last 4 books one after the other – same old same old – just the name of the places change and more heads get ripped off. It also seams that the more physical power she gets the dummer she becomes. She is constantly shocked, surprised and astonished about the same things. She also seems to forget that her necklace is the key.
And then she is supposed to be Jesus daughter – really!!
When is book 12 coming ????
