<— Whoa! This one is very popular amongst our rom-com (romance comedy) reading buddies, and there are two more books that have been released in the series. In fact, book #3 was JUST released!
The series is called “Knitting in the City” and yep… I was all… knitting? Really? Er… okay. But going by these recommendations below, I really don’t think “knitting” factors into it all that much. And if it does, it sounds hilarious! 😛
Anne: not sure if you’ve read this one or heard about it but I just HAD to let you know how amazing it is. It is sweet, funny, SO clever, and sexy and I’m only at 44% but just wanted to rave about it to someone! The blurb doesn’t do it justice, so it is turning out to be the best book surprise of the summer for me. Loving it! Janie is so sweet, bordering on a genius with amazing smarts but is so beautifully naive when it comes men. She has zero control over what comes out of her mouth when she is flustered and, in the presence of Quinn, who she has nic-named Sir Mchotpants (who she thinks is a security guard but actually owns the comapny), this happens frequenty with hilarious results. I can’t wait to see where this one goes, PLEASE check it out, I’m sure it is something you will enjoy!
Evieve: Neanderthal Seeks Human by Penny Reid was so much fun!
Sara: Fav book Neanderthal Seeks Human by Penny Reid (very funny)
Mariah: Human Seeking Neanderthal is AWESOME!!!! I would totally take advantage of this 99cent bargain! I loved it so much. It is a new 5 star read for me. Well written and very witty! It is reminiscent of Tilly and Tess (Heller and Blood Fued). You will not be sorry!
Stella: just finished Neanderthal Seeks Human & I ABSOLUTELY LOVED this book. It was hilarious, smart & witty. I have to say that I couldn’t put the book down. I loved the main character Janie! I hope you get a chance to read it. I think you’ll enjoy it.
Jacee: Friends without Benefits by Penny Reid is good. So funny.
Karen: I just read an ARC of Love Hacked (Penny Reid’s new book) and the hero is smokin hot! He’s much younger than the heroine. He’s also a genius computer hacker with a chip on his shoulder. I loved it!!
P.S. The author states —> “…each book can be read as a standalone.”
About book #1:
There are three things you need to know about Janie Morris: 1) She is incapable of engaging in a conversation without volunteering TMTI (Too Much Trivial Information), especially when she is unnerved, 2) No one unnerves her more than Quinn Sullivan, and 3) She doesn’t know how to knit.
After losing her boyfriend, apartment, and job in the same day, Janie Morris can’t help wondering what new torment fate has in store. To her utter mortification, Quinn Sullivan- aka Sir McHotpants- witnesses it all then keeps turning up like a pair of shoes you lust after but can’t afford. The last thing she expects is for Quinn- the focus of her slightly, albeit harmless, stalkerish tendencies- to make her an offer she can’t refuse.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this series. Hilarious and sweet + great writing. HUGE fan.
I read them out of order, I read Friends then Neanderthal (and was lucky enough to get an ARC of Hacked). With all three, I literally laughed out loud after page 2. Page one is kinda a gimmie you know, a grabber. From page 2 on, you laugh and if you’re a pushover like me you might cry. You get angry because you ARE the heroine and you want what she wants (a hot guy, a hot smart guy…and a panty party.) and you want it now! I can’t wait for the future books involving the knitting girls. They are all so interesting and diverse. Yes, the books can be read as a stand alone, but why would you only read one when you can read all about them in the other books? You learn different things about them as you go along and they become your friends. I’m really anticipating Fiona’s story.
You guys rock!! This makes me wanna read ’em SO bad!!!! 😀
Loved the first 2 books in this series and I have the latest release sitting on my kindle to be read.
I also read them out of order, book 2 then book 1 and they were both fantastic! Excited to read the latest one! Any book that combines well written humour and steamy romance is on my auto-buy list!
Truly, Penny’s writing is so smart, quick-witted and funny. She’s a one-of-a-kind author – a true stand-out in this genre! READ HER BOOKS! (And I’m lucky to say I met Penny at Book Bash last year! I should have gotten her autograph then!)
Penny Reid is amazingly talented! She’s one of the finest Rom Com writers out there. I highly recommend her books.
Penny is awesome!! Love her books! I haven’t cracked open Love Hacked yet, but I can’t wait! Everyone should grab them if they haven’t!
I read them out of order because the hero in the second one has a beard. Oops! Went back and read Neanderthal. They can definitely be read as standalones. Love her writing! Funny, quirky and sexy!
Yay!! This is my FAVORITE chick lit author- her whole series is amazing!! I’m so glad you are highlighting her book… definitely worth the $ on Amazon and I strongly hope that these stories get picked up as movies
This is an amazing series! Left me in a funk because I want more and nothing feels like Penny writes. Seriously amazing books, all so unique and their own story but with the same amazing fill. Smart and funny. I gush over this author so much, it can’t be helped.
Knitting in the City is one of my favorite Romantic Comedy series. The character are intelligent and strong, loyal and kick ass. The books are hilarious and the way Penny Reid invents her own words to describe the otherwise indescribable is awesome. I spend half the time laughing and half the time Googling while reading this series because they are that funny and that smart. Also Penny Reid just so happens to be a really friendly author with a knack for making me smile everyday on social media.
I love this series!it is so different and super smart! these books are funny and the heroes are sexy! also, penny is such a good person and interacts with her readers. 🙂
Don’t read these books in public. People tend to look at you funny when you fall on the floor laughing. Also no eating or drinking because you will spew.
These books are amazing, I read NSH last year and had to wait for the next two….I was not disappointed in the least! I also met Penny at the Houston Book Bash and she is just as wonderful as I thought she would be, hilarious, generous, nice and just awesome! I have to admit NSH is still my favorite, I’ve read it 3 times alone (Janie and Quinn hold a special place for me) I think Alex and Sandra come in a close second….she weaves such individually interesting characters that I love them all! Do yourself a favor and READ these books!
I loved the first book – it made me want to join a knitting group! I think I smiled the entire time I read it. Which had my family giving me strange looks….
Sounds Good! Definitely on my TBR List! LOVE a Romance mixed with Humorous. Can’t wait to read!
I’ve already read Love Hacked twice. Quickly the first time and then slowly the second time to enjoy it fully. At first, I thought the age difference would be an issue, but it really wasn’t.
Alex’s backstory is so heartbreaking-he almost reminded me of Ian in The Madness of Ian Mackenzie, except he was more likely to stare than avoid eye contact. The combination of his vulnerability, open adoration, ignorance of social norms, paranoia, jealousy, possessiveness and alpha hotness was just too much to resist. I especially loved the lack of hackneyed tropes to cause misunderstandings. The mixture of hilarity and heart tugging emotion was nicely balanced.
Read it!!!
I meant I LOVE Romance mixed with Humor. (Thanks Auto Correct HATE IT!!!)
Hilarious change from angst-filled stories. Her Amazon page says JUNE 2014: Neanderthal Marries Human, the sequel to Neanderthal Seeks Human (book #1.5 in the ‘Knitting in the City’ series) and
SEPTEMBER 2014: Beauty and the Mustache, An educated romance (Book #4 in the ‘Knitting in the City’ series). Can’t wait!!!
I started Neanderthal Seeks Human after seeing if recommended on your blog the other week. Although i didnt find it overly funny the story line was FANTASTIC! I read it so quick and went straight onto the next book in the series. These sure got me out of my reading funk.
These are the perfect mix of funny, hot, sexy, unique and add a teeny bit of angst and they are perfection!
Oh yay!! I see my comment! I just re-read Love Hacked and I’ve decided it’s my favorite. It’s a bit darker and sexier/steamier than the others but just as funny. OMG ALEX!! He is my new book boyfriend. He is so vulnerable yet so alpha. How did she do that? Love these books I can’t believe you haven’t read them yet! Everyone needs to read these!
Absolutely loved book number one not just because of the great love story but because it was freaking hilarious! The characters and situations they found themselves in were a riot. This one had me laughing out loud!
just absolutely loved it. The nicknames Mchotpants. The Jokes. Loved the one. “A neutron walked into a bar asked how much for a beer the bartender replied “no charge”. There are heaps others too. Loved Janie’s nieveness. and his infatuation with Janie. The quirky names she made up for Manhore. If you loved Wallbanger this is for you.
Accidently Paranormal by Dakota Cassidy. I had to get that out before I had to flip back to my Kindle for the spelling! Sorry. I didn’t see this series on your reading order list. This is a fantastic series. Reminds me of “Rock Chicks” It’s funny with alpha males, crazy chicks and adventures that are hilarious. Spread the word…….
I check your site for books and the reading order of series. Thank you for this. I appreciate you!
