Sherrilyn Kenyon – Dark-Hunter & Dream-Hunter Reading Order

by Maryse on March 30, 2009 · 70 comments

in Reading Order Guide:,Sherrilyn Kenyon

NOTE: Also included in this list, in the proper reading order: The Were-Hunter books, the Dream-Hunter books, and the latest “Chronicals of Nick” books (because of the character’s in these books, and the stories that are unfolding, they are still part of the “Dark-Hunter” series). They do merge, and important characters from the Dark-Hunter series have large roles in all the books.

About the series (as per the author):

In the world of the Dark-Hunters nothing is ever as it seems. Life and death both take on a whole knew meaning as this immortal cadre of warriors fight to protect mankind from those creatures and demons who would prey on us.

Extra’s that are relevant to the series:

  • The Dark-Hunter Companion – Consider this handbook your education. Hunter 101. In here you’ll find out all there is to know about being a Dark-Hunter.
  • Dark-Hunter: An Insider’s Guide: is a compilation of 5 of Sherrilyn Kenyon’s untold stories from the Dark Hunter Series (sidenote: see their position in the reading order list, above). This compilation includes: The Promise, Where Angels Fear To Tread, Dark Hunter Christmas, Second Chances, and Fear of Darkness.

Thanks for posting the list! For some reason Sherrilyn’s new website doesn’t include the short stories chronologically with the main books.

Maryse August 10, 2009 at 8:33 AM

My pleasure! These lists help me out too!

Maryse January 3, 2010 at 10:17 AM

Hi! Glad to help :) Actually, the Were-Hunter books are also included in this list (because, officially, they were still part of the “Dark-Hunter” series), but here’s an impromptu list:
1.) Night Play (Dark-Hunter, Book 6) — Vane’s book
2.) Unleash the Night (Dark-Hunter, Book 9) — Wren’s book
3.) Dark Side of the Moon (Dark-Hunter, Book 10) — Ravyn’s book
4.) Bad Moon Rising: A Dark-Hunter Novel — Fang’s book

Thank you for the list; however, where does Blood Lite fit in the order.

lysal March 6, 2010 at 1:32 PM

Thank-you so so much! i’d got myself all confused with all the different lists. unfortunately the link to the free e-book doesn’t seem to work?

cheers

Maryse March 9, 2010 at 9:55 AM

Hi Lysal! I don’t think it fits anywhere in this particular series (I know she has a short story in it, but I don’t think it merges with any of the Dark-Hunter series).

Hope this helps!

B May 2, 2010 at 7:48 PM

Thanks a lot for the list, I been looking everywhere for something like this without any luck til now. I know Sherrilyn saids that the books can be read in any order but I want to enjoy the full story.

Thanks
B

Amanda May 23, 2010 at 12:03 AM

so i actually read 9 of the dark hunter books out of order. although i just finished bad moon rising and i wanted to find the list so i could see what i was missing. Needless to say this list helps alot so thanks.

Amanda May 23, 2010 at 12:05 AM

also, just wondering do you think the dream hunter series is worth it to pick up, and does it somehow coincide with the dark hunter series ?

Amanda May 23, 2010 at 12:22 AM

oh and one more question, i promise, aside from the sherrilyn kenyon books, im really into mythology and reading about the greek gods, I think thats why i loved acheron’s book the most. So cutting to the chase what series would you recommend that would satisfy my need for Greek Gods and Goddesses ?

Maryse May 24, 2010 at 7:20 PM

Hi Amanda!

I liked the Dream Hunter series. Not *as* much as the Dark-Hunters, but they do merge, and important characters from the Dark-Hunter series have large roles even in the Dream Hunter books. Plus, how cool is it, that a “god” can connect with you in your dreams, and fall in love? Takes the saying “man of your dreams” to a whole new level ;)

I’m not well versed in books about Greek Gods, but maybe someone else can steer us both in the right direction? Sherrilyn introduced me to these fascinating beings, and I’d love to read more.

Darlene Mitchell June 19, 2010 at 10:10 AM

P.C. Cast has a series of books that connect with Greek Gods and mythology. Goddess Summoning Series, and I liked the Divine Series also, based on Celtic Mythology.

Hope you enjoy them.

Thank you for posting this.My books were in a mess because I just recently moved for college and my reading order got messed up; And kenyons list dosn’t include the anthologys. Also helps me because my bf is interested in the serires but hes going to school in the UK and can’t seem to find them now I can finally start sending them to him in the correct order. ^^ we are both OCD when it comes to reading. even if you don’t have to read them in order. Thank you again so much.

Maryse July 10, 2010 at 9:19 AM

Hi Isis! I get it…I have too many books and a case of OCD for reading orders too (as you can see ;) )

Terrie Buchanan July 15, 2010 at 1:30 PM

Hi Everyone. I just have to say the I have read all the Dark Hunter and Dream Hunters series and loved them all. I,like some of the other readers, like the Greek God books as well. I have read the Divine Series and found them to be very good also. The Infinity: Chronicles of Nick was great. I liked how it took you back to when Nick was a young teenager. I can’t wait until Invincible comes out. I thought I seen on amazon that No Mercy was due out in September 2010? But look foward to reading that also. I hope that Sherrilyn Kenyon continues to awe us with more Dark Hunter and Dream Hunter books. I love the way that I can get lost in her book and feel like I know the characters in them. You feel like you are right there because of the way she describes every detail. Keep up the great job your doing Sherrilyn!!

Bette July 18, 2010 at 7:17 PM

The link to the free ebook “Fear the Darkness” gives me an error. Is there another way to get to this?

I have used your listed to read all the books in order (down to the last three) and have really appreciated it. Thanks for your time/effort on this.

Maryse July 19, 2010 at 8:05 PM

Hi Bette! Thanks for pointing that out. I fixed it. Just click on the link, and when you get to her page, scroll down to the bottom of it and you’ll see she’s giving away two free stories. Click the button to sign up to receive them.

Renee August 5, 2010 at 6:23 PM

Hi I was wondering if you recommend this highly as I have weened myself from Twlight and J.R Ward and then Gena Showalter.

Maryse August 5, 2010 at 7:00 PM

Absolutely YES!!! I LOVE this series, and there are so many books already in it and the author is also continuing it so there is plenty to look forward to.

I have so many favorites in the series and I’m already thinking about re-reading some of them.
:) Lucky you!! You get to experience it for the first time!

Julie August 9, 2010 at 5:22 PM

Great site! Will visit often.

Tonya Jackson August 19, 2010 at 8:57 PM

I received Bad Moon Rising from a friend along with a bunch of other books. I was hooked on the dark hunters after that. Within 3 weeks I have read all the books. These were the first books from Sherrilyn Kenyon that I have ever read and I can’t wait to read more. Fabulous books!!!

Maryse August 26, 2010 at 9:07 PM

Oh I LOVE this series SO much!! My favorites Are Talon’s book, Vane’s book and of course Acheron’s. But thinking back…I love them all.

Trin September 10, 2010 at 11:35 PM

You’re the only list i find that includes where to read the dream hunters at, this list made the series EVEN MORE enjoyable

Maryse September 11, 2010 at 11:29 AM

Thank you Trin!! When I first started reading these books I was always searching for what came next in a series, and started making these lists for myself, but I’m happy to share them ;)

Laura September 14, 2010 at 8:35 PM

Hey!

For Greek Gods and Goddesses Gena Showalter’s the Dark Lords is an excellent series! Also, L. A Banks writes a very good series, A Vampire Huntress Legend series and it’s extremely entertaining and thourough and also has a plethora of gods and godesses.

If you haven’t read it, J. R Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood is extremely satisfying (no gods/goddesses).

Thank you for the list! It was killing me not being able to figure out the order! I have something like a mini library in my room and I loan books to my sister and friends so not knowing what books come first (or even how many books in the series) is sort of a bad thing, ;)

So thanks!~

Shar Downs September 18, 2010 at 5:59 PM

Rika Ashton September 29, 2010 at 2:49 AM

Love, love, love the Dark-hunter series! Thanks so much for the reading order, the “Sherrilyn Kenyon” section of my shelf has been messed up for so long. Just a quick question, do you know if she’d writing any more Dream-Hunter novels? It’s been a while since the last one came out and it kind of ended in a cliff-hanger.

ANGELA MATLOCK October 23, 2010 at 7:17 PM

OMG!!! LOVED THIS SERIES OF BOOKS BY SHERRYLON KENYON, I BOUGHT THE WHOLE SERIES, AND NOW AM ABOUT TO FINISH ACHERON, THEN ONLY LIKE 4 BOOKS LEFT!! IM GOING TO BE SO SAD WHEN ITS OVER. I NOW NEED A WHOLE NEW SERIES TO READ. SOMETHING ALONG THE SAME LINES AS THE SERIES IM ABOUT TO FINISH. mitzy November 4, 2010 at 4:01 AM

i scrolled all the way down to the bottom of your page and didnt see the link for the free books from sherrilyn kenyon.

Maryse November 4, 2010 at 8:39 AM

Hi Mitzy! You have to scroll down the bottom of her page (not this one). Click on my link that says “(free e-book!)”, and it will send you to her “free stuff” page.

Once you’re on her page, scroll down to the bottom of it (right now her “free books” button is on the bottom left) – big picture/button – you can’t miss it.

Hope this helps!

Dawna November 23, 2010 at 1:24 AM

Hi, Just wanted to say thank you for the liste, for some reason Sherrilyn’s website is buggy for me atm. Who knows maybe its just my web browser =/. Well anyways thank you. :)

Maryse November 30, 2010 at 9:44 AM

Hi Dawna! Glad to help :)

Ivie Sparaco November 30, 2010 at 11:19 AM

I have used this guide to read the entire series. Thank you so much!

Kelly November 30, 2010 at 10:49 PM

Where does “A Dark-Hunter Christmas” and “Blood Lite” belong in the list? I’ve read just about everything but “No Mercy” and “Redemption” thus far but I want to re-read them down the road but in order this time to see what I missed the first time around…

Maryse November 30, 2010 at 11:53 PM

Hey Kelly!! You rock! Thank’s for pointing that out. I’ve added them into the reading order guide in what I believe to be, the proper positions (with a little help from Sherrilyn’s site & Amazon).

breanna December 1, 2010 at 11:24 AM

i really wish i had this entire series. she is an exquisite writter and she is my favorite author. i have most of the books but im missing a few. :(

JAN December 14, 2010 at 3:33 PM

JAN December 14, 2010 at 3:36 PM

ALSO I DONT SEE REDEMPTION IN YOUR LIST. WHERE IS IT, AND WHAT CAN IT BE READ IN??

Maryse December 14, 2010 at 3:45 PM

Hi Jan!

Redemption is at the bottom of this list, as it hasn’t come out yet (it will only be available to read as of next year). Not sure what page Dark-Hunter Christmas is on, maybe someone else knows?

I’ll try to find out in the meantime…
:)

April January 16, 2011 at 3:44 PM

Has anyone found out what page the “Dark-Hunter Christmas” is on in the Dark Companion?
Thanks,
April

Patricia February 22, 2011 at 11:51 AM

thank you for posting the oder its much easier this way the new website sherrilyn has is confusing to me this helps so much thanks again

Maryse February 22, 2011 at 11:55 AM

:) My pleasure!! There are so many “spin-offs” in her main series, that are extremely relevant to the advancement of the main saga, so I felt a need to organize the list.

Kari February 23, 2011 at 10:46 AM

Thanks so much for the list!! Where does The Promise short story fall in this order (it is in An Insider’s Guide)? I am trying to read them all in order… I am at Sins of the Night:)
Thanks again!

vanessa April 13, 2011 at 11:32 PM

Thanks for a complete reading order. really helps. I love all her books and i am almost caught up…i think!

Trish May 14, 2011 at 8:21 AM

can anyone tell me where the dark hunter vol 1-3 goes in this series at its the cartoon version on the front of the book and on her website it says they about Talon and Kyrian. I havent gotten them yet but wasnt sure where they fit into the series reading order……these look alot like blood lite on the covers too. Thanks for the help, patiently waiting for a response.

Tina June 9, 2011 at 1:32 PM

I have two list for the Dark-Hunter series and both are different from what you have posted here. So i just want to make sure your list is the correct one before i move on to the next book. and do i also read the books that are not highlighted.
I hope you can set me on the right path……. because i am really really enjoying this series.

Maryse June 9, 2011 at 1:40 PM

Hi Tina!

Yes i’ve read the entire series, and this is the correct list if you want ALL the books (and not just the Dark-Hunter) books. She has “Were-Hunter” and Dream-Hunter books, plus short stories and also Nick’s story (as a teen) that melds into the series. If you want to read it exactly as each story was written, and the entire story unfolds, this would be the list.

Tina June 9, 2011 at 1:45 PM

thank you so much for helping me.
