<— This one tempts me big time, and Lisa (and Shannon) recommend it!
Lisa: Maryse, Had to send you a note as I just finished Shooter (Burnout #1) by Dahlia West. Last night I finished the Night walker series by Jacquelyn Frank and I was looking to move on to something lighter. In looking at your bargain list I noticed Shooter, one click later I found myself giggling and laughing at the banter between Chris Shooter Sullivan and his Army Ranger crew. I really liked the development of the relatioship between Chris and Hayley its not just meet and fall into bed. Although, we like that too right :-). While the preview of this books comes off as with an MC theme, its not. I highly recommend this little gem of a book, its perfect for an in-between read. I’m very much looking forward to reading the next 2 books in the series.
Shannon: I also read Shooter and enjoyed it very much.
About book #1:
Chris “Shooter” Sullivan has returned to his home town of Rapid City, South Dakota to pick up the pieces of his life shattered by a roadside bomb in Iraq. He only wants to focus on holding what’s left of his old unit together, running his garage where he builds custom bikes and cars, and pretending that his murdered father’s motorcycle gang doesn’t exist.
Hayley Turner is a young woman with her own traumatic past. Fresh off the bus from Nowhere, USA, all she wants is a job and a place to live, until it’s time for her to leave again. She doesn’t want to make friends, or enemies, least of all the ex-Army Ranger who obviously doesn’t like her. She bristles under his watchful eye. He’s even got her convinced she’s bad news.
But circumstances force two people who don’t need anyone to need each other more and more. The more Chris gets to know Hayley, the harder it is to stay detached. And the more Hayley gets to know Chris, the more she realizes she’s been alone for so long she might never recover from it.
- Shooter (Burnout 1) <— seems to be loved by many!
- Tex (Burnout 2) <— reviews are a bit all over the place with this one…
- Slick (Burnout 2.5) <— super short with cliffhanger ending…
This series is great (I skip book2 as It has a sub/Dom aspect and not my thing. Am really looking forward to Hawk the next one due out, lucky caught a long excerpt and was hooked) ! This writer and series was a Really nice find!
Cliffhangers or standalones? I’ve sworn off cliffhangers till all the books are available.
I’m thinking each one is about a different couple in their entourage? Probably can be read as standalones, but I’d love to hear from someone that has read them, to know for sure…
I enjoyed book 1, but have skipped the others based on reviews. I belong to a goodreads group that has posted many times about staying away from book 2, that the main H is nothing like his character in book 1, and that it’s just gross. I’ll probably read Hawk when it comes out.
Lauren, yes these are individual stories of each couple. Each can a standalone. Except Slick which is a novella and has a cliffhanger. Rosheen and Lori, I loved Shooter but then I read book 2 Tex, and it has some really distriburing scenes not at all like book 1.
When is the next book coming out?Would love to know about Tildy and Hawks baby. Also if Tex and Vegas get married.
