- Louder Than Love by Jessica Topper <— EX-ROCK STAR & OMG I LOVED THIS ONE LIKE CRAZY & it’s just been re-released – LIVE TODAY (and will now be available in paperback too!!) 😀 P.S. Here’s my 4.5 STAR review.
Lisa: Read Louder Than Love!!! More mature H/h, a widower and a washed up rock star. But its not really a rock star romance. Its just……amazing. One of my favorites.
Maryse: I LOVED Louder Than Love (2nd half really makes it shine!)
Jean: I loved Louder Than Love!
Jen: I started Louder Than Love this afternoon and I am loving it. I have already cried twice and laughed out loud multiple times and I am only 20% in.
- Not What I Expected by Jewel E. Ann <— JEWEL E. ANN’S LATEST & IT’S BACK ON TODAY’S LIST ’cause our fellow readers are LOVING IT! I KNEW that would happen!!! 😀
Lisa A: Just want to give some feedback on Not What I Expected by Jewel E Ann. It was amazing guys!! It’s not what I’ve come to typically expect from her. It was a lot lighter, but funny as all heck and just a slice of true life.
As I mentioned in my review of it, who of us hasn’t contemplated holding a pillow over our husband’s head as he slept, or dreamed of just living somewhere all alone in your own space with no one to answer to. It’s a story about losing yourself and the journey to rediscovery. I am sure you will see yourselves within the pages and it will cause you to think!!
Amy: This book was so good. I definitely recommend it!
Summer: I loved it!
Leslie: One clicked! Thanks ladies. In the middle of First, that one is so so good! I’ll start this one next. Keep Em’ coming!!
Rae: Jewel E Anne thanks Maryse.
- The Crazy Good SEAL Series: Books 1-3 by Rachel Robinson <— SUPER-BARGAIN SERIES BUNDLE ALERT!! I read the first two books and I LOVED THEM!! Book Review – Crazy Good & Book Review – Set In Stone.
Lori: Great review! I definitely agree with your rating. I’m a sucker for a huge alpha badass! When I got teary eyed during the first chapter, I knew it was going to be a good read. The tear soaked head of her little dog….mush I tell you!
Ashley: Just finished this one up last night at midnight because I could NOT put it down (I may end up getting fired from work!). I loved, loved, loved it! I had added it to my wish list because I always have to get up my “courage” to read books that may cause ugly crying and boy did I. ugggggllly. cry. I highly recommend this one….5+ stars for Mav and Windsor.
Theresa: OMG I read months ago and I still remember crying. Loved everyone of those books. You need to read them all.
- Final Girls: A Novel by Riley Sager <— SUPER-BARGAIN PRICE FOR THIS THRILLER!!!! I one-clicked it, and my sister reviewed it on my blog!! When she first commented about it on the blog she said:
Johanne: Oh !!! And I just bought Final Girls by Riley Sager. I like thrillers… The 3 girls survived some massive killings that took place in front of them, each on their own. They do not know each other, just that they are survivors. And then one day, one of the 3 survivors knocks on another’s door and announces that they are now 2. I have goose bumps just thinking about it. THAT I WANT TO READ NOW !!!! lol
P.S. And then she did. And here’s her review.

- Layla by Colleen Hoover <— COLLEEN HOOVER OMG BLURB JOLT ALERT!!! Buddy read with me??! This one sounds like an angsty doozy!!! The love of his life is attacked, and though she eventually recovers… she’s different. “…In order to put their relationship back on track, Leeds whisks Layla away to the bed-and-breakfast where they first met. Once they arrive, Layla’s behavior takes a bizarre turn. And that’s just one of many inexplicable occurrences. Feeling distant from Layla, Leeds soon finds solace in Willow—another guest of the B&B with whom he forms a connection…”
Michele G: Maryse, I read Layla early (a few months ago)… I LOVED it!! I enjoy that CoHo writes a variety of genres. This one is kind of a paranormal romance. It’s twisty and fun…although there were times I was angry with the characters and wanted to throw my ereader (I resisted of course). I read it in a day…it was addictive!
Shaleen: I have been preparing myself to read this book for months!!! I know it will be worth it though, it always is when it comes to Colleen Hoover’s books.
Maryse: OH I CANNOT WAIT MICHELE!!!! This is totally up my alley and I am SO in the mood for it!! 😀

OMG the bad review post cracked me up. IDK how I missed it!
I’ve been lucky. I have some brutal reviews but I agree with some of them and many I just find entertaining. My favorite begins, “Oh dear…” 😆 And this one actually sold books to the age gap crowd! “Kinda over the age gap here (16 years in a modern love story with a 21 year old is a bit rough for me generally).” <– Thanks! 🤣
OMG that post WAS hilarious!!! And then Suanne’s comments in the comment section. 😂😂😂
Yes!! OMG! 😆🙈
Um, what review?
It’s the post we made 5 years ago about “bad reviews” and we’re laughing about it all over again. It’s up there in my Blasts From the Past section:
https://www.maryse.net/books/book-recommendations/bad-reviews-that-make-you-want-to-read-the-book.html
Your bad reviews are the best! Or at least your status updates!
I was just reading it too. That was hysterical. I still want the title of the book Suanne described.
I am guilty of writing bad reviews when I don’t like a book. I write them more for myself than for any other reason. In a few months, when this book crosses my path again and I feel tempted to read it, I want to remember why I shouldn’t ou should. And, the first thing I do when deciding if I want to read a book or not is read the reviews. If you guys recommended it, I read it. If an author I follow liked it, I read it. Then I go to the one-star reviews and see if what they complained about is something I would too. So they help me a LOT.
I 100% think bad reviews are as important as good ones, so keep writing them. Whether you mean to or not, you’re directing future readers either to or away from the book, and both are good. I don’t go into the age gap in my blurb so if a reader hates those, I kind of hope they see that bad review to steer them away from it!
https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/1940404842
You’re welcome
Bad reviews are hilarious sometimes, although I guess they can be pretty painful for authors 🙁 But they often say more about the reviewer than the book. Sometimes ya think, why did they read that book if they don’t like ‘x’ whatever they’re complaining about? Read another book guys!
I admit I sometimes read bad reviews to help me decide yes or no to a book. Sometimes they are more honest too. I hate the auto 5 star reviews obviously written by the author’s auntie Flo. You HAVE TO READ THIS BOOK!! Yeah. Rigghhhtt. At least with the bad reviews, you get the feeling they’ve actually read the book, unlike auntie Flo LOL.
They can be painful but they’re not written for authors so if we chose to read them, it’s our own fault. Unfortunately, authors tend to be masochists! 😆
Ha ha. True – they are written for other readers. I think authors are brave if they do read them, but I guess sometimes they can learn from them too – what readers want etc.
I will totally Buddy Read!
YAY!!! Okay on it!! I’m so excited Ela!!!
THIS EXCITEDDDDD!!!!!

If anybody is looking for a little escapism, try the Zoey Draven’s Horde King of Drakkar Series. I have devoured the first two books. Also for those of you who have KU and are into hockey books, Toni Aleo’s books are all now on KU.
YAY!!! Thank you Kathy! 😀
I second to Kathy. LOVED it! I’m always looking for books similar to Warprize series by Elizabeth Vaughan and it reminded me of the series.
I’m always checking to see if there is a new book in the series out! Young, have you read Luna Voss’ Kryzon Breeding Auction. The titles and covers could be better but the series is really good.
Thanks Kathy! I will check it out.
Hey everyone! I thought I’d jump in here and see if anyone has any recommendations for a specific trope I’m craving.
It’s where a woman (for whatever reason) leaves her life behind to start over, living and working, in a small town where she meets the man of her dreams. I guess kind of like Sweet Dreams by Kristen Ashley or the concept of Virgin River (which I just started and am loving!)
Thanks 🙂
Safe Haven by Nicholas Sparks came to mind first, though I like the movie better than the book. 😆 I think these fit the bill too, but the heroine does know someone in the town prior to moving: The Lost Husband by Katherine Center and Wild Abandon by Jeannine Colette. Everything Girl by Emily Meyer might have the feel you’re looking for even though the heroine is only visiting for work. Same with The Simple Wild by KA Tucker.
Thank you! I’ve been wondering about The Simple Wild. I always hear good things!
It’s soooo good!
The Perfect Hope by Nora Roberts
True Confessions by Rachel Gibson
Some of the books in Susan Elizabeth Phillips Wynette, Texas series might fit the bill. A bit old school, but she’s a terrific and entertaining writer.
Or maybe some of Julie Anne Long’s Hellcat Canyon books.
You Can Have Manhattan by P. Dangelico.
These aren’t all quite on your request, but along those lines – someone trying to start a new life away from the big city and finding the love of their life.
Thanks Jan!
I actually own The Perfect Hope and the rest of the series, but I’ve yet to read them. I’m definitely adding them to my “read pile”.
Devney Perry’s Jamison Valley Series
Kelly Elliot’s Meet Me in Montana Series
Catherine Cowle’s Sutter Lake Series
C.A. Harm’s Sawyer Brothers Series
I have read all!
Thanks Kathy, these all sound right up my alley!!!
Devney Perry has Runaway Road (which is another of her series) free right now. Happy reading!
I just got it, thanks again!!
Thanks for the heads up on the free book!
Just put part of this list together for a friend looking for same trope…Hard to beat Sweet Dreams though!
Welcome to Temptation,The Bribe, Call Me Irresistible, Taming a Maverick, Everything Girl, Rock Bottom Girl, Arrogant Devil
Ashley- The Gamble, Rock Chicks (#3), Play It Safe, Soaring
Shalvis- Rainy Day Friends, Lucky Harbour Series #10-12 + more, Instant Attraction, Instant Gratification, Then Came You
Hope you find what you’re looking for!
More Kristen Ashley?! Yes, please!! Thanks Mony!!
This is a GREAT idea, and so many awesome recommendations here. 😀 I’m going to turn this into an official post/recommendations list.
Thanks Maryse!! I’ll be using it ALOT 🙂
I liked Louder Than Love. One of the better rock star romances out there. Mature MCs too, from memory, which I like.
I’m going to read What You See. I like the trope and the Alaska setting.
Who’s the author of What you See? Are you liking it?
Hi Harper,
It’s on the list up there. New book from Cherise Sinclair. She’s perhaps more well-known for her bdsm series, but this series is romances set in Alaska, and not bdsm. I’m quite enjoying it. Kinda sweet and sexy.
Continuing with my quest of mystery dinners (open overly stocked freezer, close eyes, pick something)…and we have a winner. Tonight it will be bean & chicken quesadillas.
I did look around in there… 4 big chocolate bars (who did that??), 10 lbs butter, frozen Mamie Clafoutis almond croissants (edible?), a 14 lb. turkey (what! when?), 12 bags berries, 10 pkgs naan, 25 lbs chicken breasts, 10 bread loaves. 2 people in households. Lots of fun!
This all happened stocking for pandemic. Vaccine coming. Time to eat.
Add “The Darkest Temptation” by Danielle Lori to the list. It will be released on December 12th!
Hi Elektra! Thank you for letting me know. I can’t find the preorder on Amazon? Do you have the link to it?
Hi Maryse,
I believe the link will be available on Friday. Ill ensure that you receive it!
Thank you so much!!! 😀
You’re welcome!

FLT
After his family’s matchmaking extravaganza at Thanksgiving, high school teacher Zach Wong is terrified of what his parents might do for Chinese New Year.
A Fake Girlfriend for Chinese New Year by Jackie Lau
Omg omg omg!!! Beartown (the tv series) is coming to HBO in 2021!!! I need to read #2 ASAP. Love Backman’s writing and this was my favorite book of his.
FLT: “I clawed at his hands, my eyes wide.” When the Stars Fall by Emery Rose. The prologue. Wow.
I’m also reading Jewel E. Ann’s Not What I Expected: “Everything in moderation.” I started them both thinking one would stand out but so far I’m loving them both!
When the Stars Fall sounds great – I’ve added it to my 2021 book challenge. Thanks R.!
You’re welcome! Hope you love it!
FLT:
The sweet smell of pineapple, coconut and hot oil jerked nine-year-old Kana Peleki to a stop in front of the small, brick-fronted restaurant. “Dad?”
from the prologue of What You See (Sons of the Survivalist), new one from Cherise Sinclair.
Wow, great FLTs this week!
