Their lips met in a soft kiss filled with love and hope. She sank her fingers into his thick hair when he deepened the kiss, sweeping his tongue into her mouth to tangle with hers. His hands splayed on her back, holding her firmly against him.
He gradually ended the kiss and then pressed his forehead to hers. They stood like that, in each other’s arms, for a long minute.

Jeyra slowly made her way to the prison bars and stuck her arm through to give Varek the bag of food. When he took it from her, their fingers brushed. A shock went through her and made her breath catch. She refused to look at him in case he noticed.
“You appear troubled,” Varek said.
She nodded and sat down to lean to the side and brace herself against the bars. “It’s been an interesting morning.”
