To Maryse and followers: Thank you, all of you! About a month ago I stumbled across Maryse’s blog while trying to find a good read after the “What He Doesn’t Know” duet and “Transcend”. What I found was a group that loved a lot of the same books that I love. I also found some great reads I was not familiar with, “God-Shaped Hole”, “Rainfall”, “Every Wrong Reason”, “Road Tripped”, “Lessons in Corruption” and some that I had originally passed on, “Birthday Girl” and “The Boy and his Ribbon”. These have all been added to my permanent favorites! I have never had a TBR list, and used to spend hours looking for the next good read, but looking (so far) through recommendations and reviews I have a list of 18 books! So thank you Maryse for the great blog and reviews and to all of your followers for the awesome recommendations! I have found my tribe!
THIS page is getting bookmarked!!! I just know there are some pretties on those lists which I haven’t read yet. 😉
Awwww Mona…I’m so glad you found us! *big squeezy welcome hug*
You say you have never had a TBR list, but just know if you stick around here long enough you will end up with a TBR list you will probably never get caught up on…and that’s a GOOD thing! 😀
Omgggg!!! This is amazing so much choice and potential stomach turning butterflies
My goodness!!! I’m thrilled we have a new angsty-book addict amongst us and just want to SQUEEEEEEEZE Mona so hard!!
Welcome Mona. We’ll set up a blankie fort just for you during our next angst-ridden buddy read. 🙂
Cait. Right???? The butterflies are already fluttering hard!!!
I think I’ve read through this entire list now and am going through withdrawals trying to find another angsts romance. Any new recommendations?
Have you read The Love of My Next Life by Brit Benson? (It’s a duet)
I haven’t read it! Tell me about it (without spoilers of course). Super angsty, I’m assuming?
Yes, it’s angsty (although probably not as angsty as the stuff in your list). It’s mostly petty high school drama type of thing, but it’s very entertaining and I really liked the main couple together! He’s possessive and she’s really attracted to him. It’s very interesting, and although it wasn’t quite the type of angsty romance drama I was looking for, I definitely really enjoyed it. 🙂
P.S. Can I ask you for recommendations? I’m looking for a certain type of read in this genre, and I’ve only read The Next Life duet so far (it was my introduction to this type of story).
I’m looking it up right now. 🙂 Thank you Elijah!! Have you read anything off of this list yet?
What to Read After Beautiful Disaster: https://www.maryse.net/books/my-favorite-books/what-to-read-after-beautiful-disaster.html
I think you’ll LOVE these!!
You’re welcome. 🙂
No, I have not yet read anything off the above list yet. The Love of My Next Life duet is still the only romance I’ve read in this demographic, as I’m still new to both this type of book (angsty romances) and I’m still new to books in general. I only started reading seriously February 25th of this year.
Thank you, I will look into that list (and this list), but I’ve been really looking for a certain type of read. I have made several Reddit posts asking for this, but I’ve never gotten a single recommendation, and so it made me sad… I want to describe to someone what I want and they give me something that fits what I said I’m looking for. I want it so bad haha. If you wouldn’t mind giving me recommendations based on this… I would be very grateful.
“I want ANGST. I want DRAMA. I want TOXICITY. I want UNPREDICTABILITY. I want TENSION. I want SUSPENSE. I want to be STRESSED. I want to ANTICIPATE. I want to be IMMERSED. I want it to be IMPOSSIBLE to look away and stop reading.
I have been on the hunt for a while now, and I really really really want something that is super suspenseful, unpredictable (I can enjoy predictable/semi-predictable stories, but I really really want something where I have no clue what’s gonna happen), filled to the brim with angst and drama and you never know what’s gonna happen next, but not necessarily a thriller. It can still be a thriller, but it’s kind of hard to explain what I mean when I say I want the suspense to mainly come from the drama. Like, “OMG what is he gonna say?? How are they gonna react?? Did she really just do that?! OH MY GOD I WAS NOT EXPECTING THAT TO HAPPEN.” Stuff like that. Plot twists, tension (I don’t mean sexual tension, but that’s fine, too) and DRAMA. I want to be at the edge of my seat not knowing what’s next! Ugh, I am in DESPARATE need for something. I have literally been craving it. Also, I would prefer if the book has a good amount of focus on the plot with actual plot development, such as unexpected events and whatnot.
Btw, I have no triggers, I don’t care how dark it is (it doesn’t have to be dark, though, but I don’t mind if it’s a little dark or extremely dark or whatever, just as long as it fits what I’m looking for), and I don’t mind if there isn’t a HEA. Literally no restrictions, except that I’m usually not into the idea of fantasy/sci-fi, and preferably no FBI/Police MCs, but if it fits what I’m looking for, then by all means, I’m willing to give anything a chance.
Any and all suggestions are highly appreciated.”
I copy-pasted one of my Reddit posts (which got removed for some reason, ugh).
Again, I would be sooooooo BEYOND grateful if you gave me recommendations based on the above. I’ve been looking for a long time now.
Ahhh you’ve come to the right blog. We are the QUEENS of angsty, can’t look away, toxic relationships, and lovers of crazy endings.
I’ll pull up our best of lists (including that one up there for sure) – try “Thoughtless” and you’ll see. 😉
Yeah, I randomly discovered your blog earlier this week and I’m glad I did. I haven’t looked around a whole lot, but it seems pretty great from what I have seen. 🙂
Okay! I’ve heard of Thoughtless, but never really looked into it. I will read it and get back to you on it, if you don’t mind. 🙂
(For now, from my local library I’m getting Drive by Kate Stewart, A Love Letter to Whiskey, and Between Never and Forever by Brit Benson, author of The Love of My Next Life duet. I put in purchase requests for all 3 of those books and just put in a purchase request for Nocticadia, which looks very unique and intriguing, especially since I’ve never read a book like that before. They purchased the first 3 books and I’ll read them when they arrive at the library. I don’t know why but I felt like telling you that haha.)
