Remain: A Supernatural Love Story <— WHOA, RIGHT?? The king of twisty horror movies (he’s my absolute favorite – even the movies considered “duds” I’ve found captivating!!) and the king of twisty love stories and what a match-up!!!! I was absolutely delighted and there is nothing I love more than a good ghost love story, because… how can it possibly work, right? GAHHHHH!!!! My heart ached already going into this knowing I was in for something touching and angsty.

Book Review – The Love of My Afterlife by Kirsty Greenwood
The Love of My Afterlife <— Very quirky, lots of funny (and at times, over-the-top silly) but definitely a rainy day read to cheer you up, though it does get kind of deep at one point and pulled at my heartstrings, which I appreciated. I love some depth with my silly-sweet, you know? I liked it!! It wasn’t necessarily unputdownable and mind-blowing but it was fun and full of heart. And it was also unforgettable. I actually like it even more now looking back on it and writing this.
Book Review – Bald Faced Liar by Victoria Helen Stone
Bald-Faced Liar: A Novel <— I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS AUTHOR so I was all in, for another one of her clever psych-thrillers. And while it was not my most favorite (let’s just say the reveal didn’t blow me away but there was a tiny twist in the reveal that did – like holy moly that part was clever!!) it was still an overall fun read that kept me guessing.
P.S. For those of you that are captivated by the whole “Satanic Panic” from the 80s/90s, this one’s for you (I’m looking at you, R.! 😉 ) It’s actually kind of an “aftermath”/fallout from all of that, at least, for this main character. I’m not huge on the “satanic panic” stories for some reason (though I sort of remember them from back in the day in real life, but I was just a kid – so maybe that’s why I’m not as affected).
Book Review – The Helper by M. M. Dewil
The Helper <— I couldn’t resist one clicking this one. Cover… appealing, title… intriguing, and OMG!!!! WHAT. A. BLURB. JOLT!!!!! I was SO IN.
I mean, who could resist a down on her luck, single mom (recently out of a financially and emotionally abusive marriage), struggling to keep custody of her daughter due to poverty circumstances and being offered a unique job. I was already in, for that – I love a good hardback story turned into a success story!!
But… what could she possibly be hired for that was so outrageous? What was going to turn her life upside down?? I wanted to go on that ride with her SO bad and so… I did.
Book Review – My Husband: A Novel by Maud Ventura
My Husband: A Novel <— Oooooh okay. This one was cool in its own, very unique way. It has that psych-thriller/domestic thriller feel the whole way through, an unreliable narrator (or is she?) and an interesting twist that I did not see coming, that made this one that much more memorable.
This one has it all (by way of domestic issues). Stalkerish obsession, toxic love, mistrust, cheating, trapping, marital strife, the works!
