<—- BREAKING NEWS UPDATE!!!!! R.L. MATHEWSON FANS (as we should ALL BE!!) The LATEST NEIGHBOR FROM HELL ALERT!!!!! It’s LIVE! Fire & Brimstone: A Neighbor from Hell *squeeeee* I LOVE this series!
“What happens when a Bradford with questionable OCD, a tempter and a reputation for making his employees cry falls for the woman that refuses to accept the fact that he’s fired her…”
P.S. Here are my review of the first two books in this hilarious (seriously… HILARIOUS yet super angsty-pining romance series):
- Book Review – Playing for Keeps (A Neighbor from Hell Novel) by R.L. Mathewson
- Okay… This Isn’t the Review Just Yet, But I Loved This Book!! Perfection (A Neighbor from Hell) by R.L. Mathewson
It’s ready!! A huge new release list with 75+ new books to explore. Kind of hard to choose, though, right? I can help! 😉
Here are a few that look extra exciting to me: Feyness (yep!! In the paranormal section. Something about that blurb gave me that *oomph* effect. She can see your soul… and the history of it. Your past lives. All of it. And she meets one so dark but he pulls her to him…), The Captive Series Bundle (super-bargain for the entire series and Amy said it left her heart aching for three days!!!), Wait (she’s running back to the rock star that once broke her heart. Plus it’s A.L. Jackson so you know this one’s gonna hurt!), Bad Judgment (college stripper hired to tutor him…), I’m Still Here (she’s in a coma, and everything thinks she can’t hear them, even contemplating taking her off life support!! But she loves a certain stranger’s daily visits).
Plus of course, we’ve got some BIG favorites, like Maya Banks, Abbi Glines, Molly McAdams and S.C. Stephens that just released new ones! I highlighted ’em below.
P.S. Let me know if I’m missing any or if you loved any (from this list or elsewhere).
P.P.S. ➔ Follow me (and Pimmie AND Hobbit – my sweet puppies – yep, I have a new addition!) on Instagram? That would be SO cool!!!

Maryse think Laura Kay’es book got moved to April 2017 bummer
Ahhh thank you Theresa!!!! 😀
Love your posts, comments and reviews. Always have. Give your sweet minpins a hug from me and Molly! ❤️
Wait. You have the SEP? Maryse, you haven’t read her yet, right?
I sure haven’t, bev!! Should I start it tonight? I’m kind of loving these paper books. It almost seems as if I read those faster than my ebooks. Who knows? LOL!!! 😛
Should we just do a buddy read?
Hey Maryse…amazing list as always…just wanted to add Seven Years by Dannika Dark is on sale for .99!! Love a good bargain!
Ooh. I’m in if you are.
Okay I’ll start! Let’s buddy read, bev!!! 😀 YAY!!!
Ok. Hope it’s good. It can make me a bit nervous reading an author I used to love, you know? When you haven’t kept up with them.
One click.
Gah, so I think I’m finally going to get to start Anti-Stepbrother tonight. Deep breaths. Deep breaths!
One clicked The Captive series. Thats a steal!
I am still reading A Kingdom of Dreams and loving it!
The new SEP book is calling my name. I used to read her books back to back. They are very good!
My library has the new SEP book, bad news is I just have to wait a little for it. :>
Sorry must be overtired. What’s SEP?
Susan Elizabeth Phillips. ☺
Lol thank you Bev!! It took me a week but I finally finished Last Hour of Gann!!! Wow!! Once the H and h met I was all in. Wow!! Think my anxiety level was off the charts from that point to the very end!!!! There was more than a few times I was covering my face reading between my fingers!!! Did I mention WOW!!! Won’t say any more buuuuut do wish there had been an EPILOGUE!!!!
Yeaaa Linda! We have another fan for LHoG.
Omg I just read Everything We Keep from this list and it was amazing.
Kathryn Kelly’s new Death Dwellers MC book, Misfit, is out. The FINAL book of the series….been waiting a year for this one. It. Is. EPIC!!!
Wow what a list!!! I started “Wait” and I’m not feeling it at all! I’m 50% in and I’m forcing myself to read it at this stage! I don’t like the way it is written and it’s somewhat confusing!!
Oh NO Cait?? *sigh* Really? Let us know if you dnf it… This author usually reaches deep into the emotions and internal dialogue. I’m curious…
I seem to be hitting on about one great book out of every five or so I try. It’s annoying and hilarious how much it affects my mood when I’m not reading a great book.
Question for those of you that have Kindle Unlimited. I’m doing a free trial this month. How do you keep track of the books you have read? I assume when I return the book, (which I haven’t done yet) that I will not have it on my kindle anymore so then I can’t categorize it in the have “read” or even 5* categories that I normally track my reads in. Thanks!
Grey, if you pop in…
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!! 😀
Fabi, I feel the same way, especially since school starts soon and I’ll be back to work. Feel like my precious reading time is being wasted.
Fabi are you reading a good book now?
One thing you could try is going back to Maryse and everyone’s 2015 best of. Maybe one you wanted to read at the time or shake it up with one you wouldn’t try usually.
Amanda, EWK scares me a little with the MBK’s comments above. Were you a sobbing mess at the end? The story intigues me, but I don’t want to be “wrecked” at the end.
Cheryl I have KU, but I don’t know what happens to books after I read them because I track everything in GR. I can test something out for you if you want though!
Ok, almost done with Lover’s Lament. I like it, I do, but Katie? Slightly annoying. Really.
SPOILERISH SPOILERISH SPOILERISH SPOILERS
BEWARE BEWARE BEWARE
ONLY GO FORWARD IF YOU’VE READ A LOVERS LAMENT!!!!!!
ANGELS FEAR TO TREAD!!!!!
She is a nurse and she is doing that at that time? WTH?
And she is a delivery nurse, what if the dads started doing that if it was needed at that time for baby or mom. Like she’s the Gingerbread Man. Can’t catch me.
Cheryl, I quit using KU a while back but if I remember correctly, there is a link or tab in your Amazon Content and Devices list that let’s you view KU reads.
Bev, great minds think alike. I was considering limiting myself to reading other’s five star books and avoiding anything new for a while. *annoyed at self*
Happy birthday Grey !
Cheryl…I read EWK and was never a sobbing mess. Actually, the blurb was kind of foretelling so I never even really felt sad about his death (and I never really connected to their relationship anyway), but I loved the new guy in her life. The ending for me we more of a “whaaaa???” and head-scratching ending, then the epilogue made me want to throw my hands up and say, “seriously?” I also didn’t know it was going to be a series so that might have affected my reaction. 😉
I dunno…I guess I can say it’s a rec?
R & Fabi thanks. Didn’t even think about GR option. I think with Amazon once you return the book, it no longer shows up on your KU reads. I’ll have to play around with it to see. So far, I think it’s been good- has definitely saved me money.
Happy Birthday Grey!!! 🙂
Amy, ooo-kay?! Sounds like it’s a wtf read and maybe I should wait for the sequel to release before starting that mind-f*ck. And it’s a long wait- next summer, so putting this on the back-burner for now.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY GREY!!!
Happy birthday GREY!!!!!!! 😀 😀 😀 :D!!!!!
Happy birthday Grey!!!
I haven’t been on since I’ve been binge reading a series, Children of the Gods by IT Lucas. They are decent, with each couple set as a trilogy. I’m almost done with the second couple and am about to start on number three.
Cheryl, I use GR for my books too. I only recently made a tag called KU books, but I plan to utilize it. That said, I have saved a LOT on KU. I like it.
Thanks Tessa! I think GR’s is my best option for keeping up with my KU reads.
Happy birthday Grey!!!!
Hi Maryse, I may be missing it but don’t see The Debt on here by Karina Halle which is coming out Monday, Aug. 29th. (maybe Sunday for pre-orders?) My husband’s name is Keir and I love the McGregors so I’m all over this!!!
OMG Marina!!!! How did I miss THAT one? I’m adding it ASAP!!! Thank you! 😀
Thank you friends. I’m touched you remembered and took the time to wish me well! It’s been a day for me. Me and birthdays… yeah, the trend continues. Cool tidbit for the day, not sure if many of you follow me on twitter, but Alison Sweeney tweeted me happy birthday, so that’s wicked cool… *major fangirl moment*
I haven’t really had much time to read though… *grumble, stomp* and I am totally feeling all of everyone’s pain when they say they are having trouble getting into books lately… Me. Too. I blame CoHo. *giggle* (and Cheryl, girl I so get it, I am in massive plan mode for back to work too)
I tweeted you and THAT didn’t make you fangirl? Fine! 😀
That’s so cool! I didn’t see it, did you RT?
I stopped watching years and years ago, but Days was my first soap love. Watching it while I was way too young.
Ok, finished A Lover’s Lament & 22% into first star i see tonight.
Saw this and thought of the discussion we had the other day regarding tattoos. Loving #5 and #12 and Drew stole my idea (#32)!!
https://www.goodhousekeeping.com/beauty/g3812/tiny-stunning-tattoos-for-grown-ups/?slide=5&mag=bea&list=nl_bew_news&src=nl&date=082416
I’m on page 51 bev… 😀
Marina, was Keir introduced in The Lie? Read all the other McGregor books but not that one; yet.
Cheryl I keep seeing these dainty ones and think they are great. Love the ampersand too. Plus the flowers and birds. There is a couple flower ones I saw before I loved…..see if I can find them.
Do these separately to try & stay out of moderation. The whole list is like 89 pics of flower tattoos, lol.
Bev, love the color with the flower.
Cheryl, there was a mention of Keir in The Lie because when I first encountered his name I stopped everything and went “what? wait a minute is there going to be a book about Keir???” He’s Brigs’ cousin who was a soldier I think.
Cant wait for The Debt. I have loved that series by Karina Halle.
I was having a long, drawn out, grumpy, book slump so I’ve dived back into Night Horde territory with Susan Fanetti’s SoCal spin off series. I AM LOVING IT.
I couldn’t jump straight into this after the first series because I was feeling so emotionally shredded but God, its good to be back.
Her books are like a grimy messed up version of KA to me. I know they won’t disappoint.
Happy Birthday Grey. And wishing you many happy reading hours in the year ahead!!
Bev…Im trying to work out what you’re referring to in Lovers Lament?? I only read as month or so ago…..looking it up now.
First line Thursday:
‘Top five reasons (out of 100) I am NEVER coming out of this blanket fort’
Frenched by Melanie Harlow
Sounds like the h needs Amy to make her a drink…and someone to hand over Manny!!
That’s a super cute first line Lisa.
FLT
“The security men had advised against it.”. Black Rain by Matthew B.J. Delaney
Hey ladies! Finally finished LHoG yesterday and agree with Linda……wish there was an epilogue! And it seemed to end so abruptly for me! But still, really loved it! Thanks for the push!
Happy birthday Grey!
Bev, not sure what you are referring to in Lover’s Lament either. ….
FLT: I hated getting phone calls in the middle of the night. (Furious Rush, S.C. Stephens). So far, so good. Forbiddeny love/hate relationship with so many variables….it could go in many different directions!
A Lover’s Lament, I put four but probably 3.5 stars for me. I really liked it though.
Part I’m talking about
LOOK AWAY IF YOU HAVE NOT READ THE BOOK.
LOOK AWAY LOOK AWAY LOOK AWAY**************************
Towards the end of the book. When her, Dev, and Navas are all at the hospital. And she is first pounding on the door to get in and screaming. Then the scene in the room when she is too overcome to say anything about being *spoiler* though Navasota is telling her to. But then is able to right when the doctor and nurses need to *spoiler* Dev. And so pushes one of the nurses out of the way. Then is running around dodging them all to yell at Dev. And hitting and kicking Navas to do it. Who himself is injured and just went through a he’ll that she could probably not really imagine.
The other time she got on my nerves was how she treated her mom.
FLT:
The city was his.
First Star I See Tonight by SEP.
Lol. Bev, i just figured she was a nut. However, I know what you mean.
My first line today is gross. Sorry.

‘I vomited into the toilet, hugging the cool sides, trying to contain the sounds of my retching.’
A Court of Myst and Fury by Sarah J. Maas
The library was finally able to give it to me! It took them forever to get a copy, even though they requested it in June. I wonfer what happened. Usually once requested, it takes max two weeks. *shrugs*
I’m still reading Owen Meany, but I started another book to read simultaneously. While on a business trip, my husband (who doesn’t seem to know me at all sometimes) stood in a bookstore and read blurbs until he found a book he thought I’d like. A BOOK. I melted. For me, that beats jewelry any day. So, I squirreled everything else!
FLT: “How on earth could I have let them talk me into it?” from The Little Paris Book Shop by Nina George.
Oh Robin, I love that! It is so much better than jewelry! What an awesome husband! I WISH my husband would do that!
I think women are much easier to please than men think…they just have to pay attention once in a while.
Blahahaha, so true! My husband just asked what I wanted for my birthday and I said “slippers”! Lol!
Are you an August birthday too?
lol Jean. Maybe we’re not always up front about what pleases us?
“Honey, for my birthday…you know how much I lovee to read…why don’t you pick out a special for me that you think I’ll love?”
Raise your hand if you’d even ‘consider’ being that straightforward with your SO.
Typos from hell…hahaha
That was supposed to say “pick out a ‘book’…
LOL Fabi. I usually just get what I want and tell him about it after. Honestly, I don’t think I’m even going to like this book. But by God I’m going to read the heck out of it! It’s not just that he stood in a bookstore reading blurbs, he actually told me, “I know you only like happy endings, so I read through several books and I’m pretty sure this one has a happy ending.” OMG died.
R, Sept 4….Labor Day weekend is always a party for me! I would have to read it too if my husband took the time to pick it. I read the blurb though, and yeah, not sure it would be my thing! Good luck!
Yes Fabi, I could ask him, but not so sure he would follow up! Ha!
I like to pick my own gifts too…haha….usually Amazon gift cards!
But isn’t it nice when people tell you what they’d want or like?
It’s convenient, that’s for sure. But I would so much rather someone *think* about me when buying me a gift. Isn’t that the whole point? I really try to do that myself when buying for other people.
Now for my teenager…just take the cash and go. Mama don’t know what a G-Eazy is and she don’t need to…
Really R. That was super duper sweet of him to pick out a book for you. I’d not only read it but also rave about it. 🙂
He came in and saw me reading it last night and got so excited because he knows all about my never ending TBR! He was like…you’re reading it??
Awwww! That’s the sweetest thing.
Oh, I agree thoughtful surprise gifts are great–to give & recieve. But I’ve also been the stressed out gift giver trying to pick out the right kind of gift. The anything is fine or nothing as hints do not help, lol. So, even a “think books, or an I love new ingredients, or ect” help.
One time I told my friend I love lemon and so, as part of a care package of stuff, I got lemon candy and tea.
But your husband is super sweet and thoughtful. And how happy he is that your reading it.
Wasn’t that on a favorites list? The fish author?
I didn’t know ahead of time, but when I looked the book up I saw that Suanne had read it and loved it. I told him and he looked at me with a blank expression, so I said…you know, the woman who wrote the Fish Books???? He’s like “OMG really? So I did good!!” LOL. I’d never heard of it before then.
Speaking of the Fish Books, I went to lunch at Cracker Barrel the other day and this happened: https://www.instagram.com/p/BJYJz8QjX2U/?taken-by=robinhillwrites
Have you ever been literally winded by candy?? Asking for a friend…
Jean, do you think he got you the slippers and gift cards?
Damn I hope so bev! He’s usually pretty good and if I give him an idea, he’ll run with it.
I love that you have got a bookish and cozy theme going on. Especially going into fall.
Call me boring but any day I happen to buy new pajamas and have a new book(especially in fall/winter) is a good day.
I really want to watch the remake of The Magnificent 7, but ladies you have to watch the trailer for the edge of seventeen. I want to see it but I’m bad with second hand embarrassment. Like cover my face and can’t watch bad.

“She’s back.”
The Chocolate Touch by Laura Florand.
I’m in the middle of a total Laura Florand craze. I’m in love with these French guys with their sexy, rough exteriors and their sweet, tender, vulnerable centres. Hoh, hoh, hoh… (with a French accent)
Just finished A Kingdom of Dreams and loved it!! I am in love with Royce Westmoreland. I love reading HR set in the Middle Ages, so any good recs?

Happy Birthday Grey!
I, too, love Amazon gift cards the best! If the inlaws would just take the hint.

I have a theory. Hating someone feels disturbingly similar to being in love with them. “The Hating Game” by Sally Thorne
Bev – I watched trailer & now want to see movie! What’s so bad about it??
And I watched M7 trailer too. Chris Pratt is a funny hot guy. I love that.
I scrolled right over Cumberbatch and thought, wow, Bev didn’t even mention him!!
Why am I a brown rabbit monster?? Where’s my cute pink Avatar?
bev… I see your cute pink avatar right next to your comment. Do you still see a brown rabbbit?
MichelleS, did you change your email?
I know, I love BC, but I do not know that character. Maybe one of the comic readers on here know.
The part that made me cringe was when she accidentally sent that post or text. Though Woody Harrelson reading it was awesome.
Anne, have you read Julie Garwood?
Bev, that looks great. I was grinning throughout the trailer. I want to see it.
Tessa, it made me smile too.
Over halfway done with The First Star I See Tonight. It doesn’t seem to have some of the emotional moments of her other books. It has made me smile and laugh. There is a charm to her writing.
After this comes the big decision though. A Promise of Fire vs. Sawbones. Which one, which one?
It has to be one of them.
Michelle you’re still a cute pink avatar from where Im looking!? No brown rabbit monsters here 😉
Jan are the Laura Florand books HR? Besides the old classics I don’t generally read HR. …maybe its time I tried.
Tessa I have read Julie Garwood and love her Medieval HR books. I want books with that sort of feel 🙂
No Lisa, Laura Florand’s books are CRs set in Paris and rural France. There are 2 main series which kind of connect. One is set in the world of top chocolatiers/ chefs and the other with perfume/ flower growers/ manufacturers. Neither of which normally interest me that much LOL. But I’m fluvvin these books.
OK, there is a kind of a sameness to them to an extent (if you are reading them one after another like I am) but I’m still hooked, and loving working my way through them. Some of the couples reappear in other books and it’s nice to revisit them. The books are sweet and sexy and very romantic. I read Once Upon a Rose first, which hooked me, then went to the Amour et Chocolat series. Some books are better than others. My favs so far are The Chocolate Touch and The Chocolate Heart. Vulnerable, damaged (but sexy) characters who fall in love with each other and heal each other with their love. Sigh……..
Thanks Bev for putting me onto this author 🙂
Thanx Bev AND Jan. They might work as a nice counterpart to my current Horde MC fix….from seedy bikers to romantic french men!! 😉
Weird…but I no longer get email updates for posts here Maryse even when I subscribe.
Lisa… might they be routed to a spam box by accident?
@ Jan – I have Once Upon a Rose on my TBR….not sure how it got there (I think the one click monster comes while I’m sleeping)… perhaps you or Bev recommended?! Anyway…good to know the others are good, they sound nice & swoony!!
Anne if your after another HR book. Try Whitney my love by Judith mcnaught same author as kingdom of dreams. Its really super good. But completely different story. You will love it.
I like that Leslie…..sleep one clicking!! Its like sleep walking…but you get new books out of it.
Thank you Melinda! I just started reading Whitney My Love yesterday. Love this author!
Anne, Do you have any triggers? Whitney, My Love has a scene that might hit it.
Tessa, later editions are a bit more sanitized, right? But still…..
Is it bad I can’t remember what version I first read? But it was over 20 years ago, *gasp*
And, besides Garwood, so many of those HR s had those triggers I probably didn’t respond as I should of.
Makes me want to see what my library has of her books and do a re-read of some. Maybe we, McNaught fans of old, should see what we can find in common and do a buddy re-read sometime soon. Her HR or CR, but not the suspense.
I will never get over that time when they as one went suspense.
😀 I remember them. I keep saying some those old historicals are worse than some of the dark books out now. I can handle Whitney, My Love, but I really did prefer Something Wonderful because of that scene. Besides, how can I resist a book that says. loosely quoted (I don’t have the book anymore) “Normalcy is a sign of a stagnant mind.” 😀
I was wrong. Conventionality is a refuge of a stagnant mind.
Huh. I can’t remember *that* scene from Whitney My Love (can’t even remember what it was LOL). It mustn’t have been a trigger for me cos I can remember loving all of those books without reservation. And yeah, Bev, I can remember the disappointment when Ms McNaught’s books went all suspensey and I was like. what???? Her wonderful HRs and a few good CRs just disappeared as she went in another direction that I didn’t enjoy at all and I just stopped buying her books.
Now I want to get my copies out again after all of the fresh interest here for these old HRs of hers. Maybe when I’ve finished my Laura Florand fest…. 😉
I actually can’t remember that scene. I actually bought every one of her books and they are all completely different. I loved them all. The first one I read wasn’t a HR it was called Every breath you take. And the line at the end when they were taking their vowels were”do you promise to love honor and cherish”and he replied “with every breath I take”. So good. I loved Something Wonderful too Tessa. The other one was Until You.
I read Laura Florand . Once upon a rose. Just didn’t do it for me 3 stars. Took a long time to get into like 50 %.
Bev I would so do a buddy read on any Mc Naught book. I haven’t read the for a while but when I read them I would finish one and have another waiting. I bought the whole series of all the books she wrote.
Yeah at the time (back in the day) I liked a couple of McNaught’s CRs as well as the HRs. One called Paradise? And I think, one called Double Standards? Probably a bit dated now.
Tessa is that quote in Something Wonderful. I really have to read them again. I just remember stalking the author trying to find more books she wrote. But she doesn’t seem to write anymore.
It is. Her grandpa said it to her. I just loved it, even as an adult.
