Reader Question – The book with the dead twin sister and her boyfriend…

in Reader Questions

Okay here’s another reader looking for a book title. It, too looks right up our alley, but I don’t know what it is.

Lise asks:

Ok you are my last resort. I swear I’ve read a book synopsis about twin sisters. One sister dies and surviving twin develops a relationship with the dead sister’s boyfriend. I’ve been combing through B&N, Good Reads, etc. I can’t seem to find it. I’m hoping you know what book I’m talking about…it’s driving me crazy!!

Right??!!! I wanna read this. Kind of taboo with the whole “twin” thing (when it comes to their significant others), so this one has me curious.

UPDATE: Lisa just got back to us and confirmed the book she was looking for IS on the list!! She said:

Thank you! It was The Sky Is Everywhere!! Thanks for ending my search!!

Yay! You guys rock so much! Here were all of the suggestions:

The only book I can think of would be Rule…but it was twin brothers and one died, not sisters.

There’s one where the girl becomes engaged and he dies and she ends up with his brother- one of them is called Luke- I think! But I can’t remember it’s name, sorry.

Sounds like THE SKY IS EVERYWHERE by Jandy Nelson

from goodreads:

Seventeen-year-old Lennie Walker, bookworm and band geek, plays second clarinet and spends her time tucked safely and happily in the shadow of her fiery older sister, Bailey. But when Bailey dies abruptly, Lennie is catapulted to center stage of her own life – and, despite her nonexistent history with boys, suddenly finds herself struggling to balance two. Toby was Bailey’s boyfriend; his grief mirrors Lennie’s own. Joe is the new boy in town, a transplant from Paris whose nearly magical grin is matched only by his musical talent. For Lennie, they’re the sun and the moon; one boy takes her out of her sorrow, the other comforts her in it. But just like their celestial counterparts, they can’t collide without the whole wide world exploding.

This remarkable debut is perfect for fans of Sarah Dessen, Deb Caletti, and Francesca Lia Block. Just as much a celebration of love as it is a portrait of loss, Lennie’s struggle to sort her own melody out of the noise around her is always honest, often hilarious, and ultimately unforgettable.

I’ve read The Sky Is Everywhere and her question sounds just like that book.

This sounds a little bit like Think Twice by Lisa Scottoline. The one twin tries to take over the other twins life

kim March 9, 2013 at 1:43 PM

sounds to me like regina’s song by david and leigh eddings – not exactly a romance novel…

The Sky is Everywhere is not about twins but it’s very good! Made me cry!

LucyLou March 9, 2013 at 6:44 PM

Not to change the subject on anyone, but the Saletti Blood series by Vana Vargas looks like a pretty good Mafia type romance. Hmmmm….

Erica March 9, 2013 at 7:45 PM

Reminds me a little bit of A Beautiful Lie by Tara Sivec, but it was a girl who fell in love with her fiancées best friend after he died.

Maryse March 9, 2013 at 7:50 PM

Hrmmmmm is right, LucyLou. I noticed that, too…

LucyLou March 9, 2013 at 7:55 PM

Twice Kissed by Lisa Jackson?

Audrey Niffenegger wrote “Her Fearful Symmetry,” which is a SUPER creepy book about twins dying, getting involved with significant others, hauntings, possessions.. Some what awkward at times. Just saying.

Fallen too far

Brianna Lee Book Reviews March 10, 2013 at 9:12 AM

Hmmm, maybe THE LYING GAMES by Sara Shepard?? It was twin sisters separated at birth (didn’t know they were sisters) and one sister was murdered. The other twin saw a youtube video of her and contacted her to meet for the first time. Except it was the killer who responded and not the sister. The sister goes and ends up living the life of the other sister who died, pretending to be her (per the killers orders). She ends up hanging with the same friends, boyfriend, and family (because noone knows she is dead and that the twin is living her life). The alive sister tries hard to live her sisters life while trying to find the killer. She ends up finding her own love interest that she has to keep secret to hold up appearances of her popular but now dead, twin sister.
