Unfaithful Deeds: A Coward’s Heart
OMG this novella is the king of angst! And so well written. You learn about the FMC and MMC’s in the good days…the golden haze of their early marriage and the bad…the acute phase of the marital crisis, and the after as the blackmailing OW takes over. It’s amazing what the FMC goes through and survives. Loved it.
The main tropes are:
– At the beginning the FMC and MMC are a golden couple in love and working.
– After a miscarriage the MMC inexplicably builds a wall of distance and silence.
– Family trials begin for the FMC, including a young son, an addicted sister, work stress, no intimacy, and an unempathetic MMC who’s pissed he’s no longer treated as a king.
– The FMC moves out with her sister (she comes back twice a day to help her son). The MMC feels abandoned and unappreciated.
The OW appears and begins grooming the MMC to wreck his marriage.
– The sister overdoses…the MMC is unavailable as he cavorts with the OW, leaving his wife alone in the hospital facing a horrific crisis.
– The MMC tries to end the affair but is blackmailed by the OW.
– The FMC moves home to help her son. She finds evidence of the OW in her home. She sees the MMC/OW’s text messages. The FMC kicks him out.
– The FMC and MMC “reconcile”… is realistic but not particularly happy.
