Contract of Silence: abandoned at the altar, pregnant, and bound to the arrogant Billionaire <— Ahhhhh this is an interesting review from Margie, ’cause this one… didn’t hit quite right for her, but she reviewed it for us, anyway. And I love that. An honest take on a book in a genre that she loves, but didn’t quite hit the mark for her, and I want to hear all of the greats, goods, and not-so-goods too. 🙂
She says:
I was conflicted about this book, but I know some readers like this style so I’m sending it in. I had to skip through it. It’s got over 400 5 and 4 star reviews on Amazon.
If you like Mills & Boon style angst, you’ll like this book. I’ve read a lot of Mills & Boon paperback books and at that time they were really the only romance options available.
Now we can find good betrayal revenge books that are not so superficial…that have more character building and better storytelling. So I personally thought the book was a bit over the top, superficial, and silly at times, but that’s my opinion.
The writing was fine. It has a dramatic opening…the MMC leaves the pregnant FMC at the altar. He faces the 300 guests and says:
“I will not marry a woman who lied to me. Who cheated on me. And who planned to force me to raise another man’s child.”
Great hook, but then it skips five years ahead and the MMC doesn’t investigate or really do anything after his dramatic pronouncement to verify if the FMC is a lying gold digger or not.
Also in the Mills & Boon manner there are lots of nonproductive angsty arguments with desire creeping in at inexplicable times. You mostly want to whack the overly dramatic, opinionated MMC on the head. The FMC vacillates between I must be strong and I love him.
It’s also long…so it’s never ending angst.
It’s available as a KU.
