I had the chance to ask THE wonderful Sylvia Day a few questions about her sexy Crossfire series, and she answered!! ON VIDEO!!! GAH!!! I just love her. And not only do I have the video here for you today, but she’s also having a giveaway for a lucky commenter right here!
I asked her:
1.) Why do you think readers love books with a lot of angst and storylines that show the characters really struggling to find their happily ever after?
2.) Songs are so important in the telling or the feeling of a love story. Why did you choose the karaoke song choices you did for Eva and Gideon in Captivated By YouΒ (“Brave” for Eva and “Hanging by a Moment” for Gideon)?
3.) What was it like, writing from Gideon’s POV?
Ready for her answers?
And!! To celebrate Valentineβs Day,Β the author & publisher are having a special giveaway for one lucky commenter here in the U.S. That winner will receive the βGet Toastyβ gift set, including:
- Kate Spade βDarling Pointβ Toasting Flutes
- Moet & Chandon Champagne
- Copy ofΒ Captivated By You (Crossfire, Book 4)
HowΒ to enter for a chance to win it?Β Just leave a comment telling usΒ about your most memorable Valentine’s Day (or just leave a comment π that’s fine, too!), andΒ by 10pm EST, Sunday February 15th 2015, I will randomly selectΒ ONEΒ winner for the prize set above.
The winner will be contacted and will have 48hrs to respond with a mailing address, so if you are picked, do not delay or you will lose your chance. This gift set will be sent directly to the winner by the publisher (Penguin Random House).

Jeez- being stood up in college by my boyfriend that The next day thought I would find it as funny as his fraternity brothers did when he told me it was a bet. Uh-no. Cheers to a great Valentines Day!
My best Valentine’s Day was finding out I was expecting our 3rd child. We had 2 boys, with the youngest being 7 when we found out. We ended up having a little girl and refer to her as our “bonus baby” π
I’ll be honest I’ve never had an actual Valentine’s Day event. Typically I’m single around the holiday plus I’m young so…no stories sadly. Great giveaway!
I’ve been with my boyfriend for 7 years now and each Valentine’s Day with him has been the best.
Most memorable Valentine’s Day. I thought my boyfriend, now husband, had forgotten Valentine’s Day. He hadn’t said anything all day in between classes on campus. I kept waiting for him to ask me to dinner, maybe he would have candy for me, etc…NOTHING. That evening we had our usual sorority meeting. Meeting had just gotten started and there was a knock on the door. In comes a guy dressed in a white tux, carrying big heart ballons with chocolates. He also had a guitar and sang “Deb’s got a way about her” to the Billy Joel song of “She’s got a way about her”. Bryan had re-written the song about me. To this day, almost 31 years later, when I hear Billy Joel’s version it still brings back such a wonderful, romantic memory. I still like “Deb’s got a way about her” better π
My husband brought me to a nice restaurant and flowers were waiting there for me. Very sweet of him. π
My husband was 3 weeks Post-Op from rotator cuff surgery and when I got home from work he had candles lit, arrangement of roses on the table and dinner that he actually had cooked on the table as well. I was so shocked because you see my husband just doesn’t cook. It warmed my heart to know he had done all of that for me. By far this was my best Valentine’s Day ever.
Most memorable was last year when I gave my husband a lap dance and strip tease!
My husband is a chef, so we rarely get to spend the actual day together. We usually go out on a date just after the real day. However he always sends me flowers on Valentine’s Day, so I kinda get to celebrate twice!
My favorite Valentine’s Day was with my husband 5 years ago. He took the day off work as a surprise, and we spent the day as we did when we were in college together. We went to a great restaurant, not too dressy, then a fun movie. He bought me flowers and Godiva chocolates and treated me like the 18 year old I was when we first met in college, 25 years prior. Later that evening, we went back to the routine of kids and work, but we were able to just be “us” for a few hours.
Valentines Day is usually a work day, which I hate so sometimes we celebrate it on a different day so it can be dedicated truly to us. We met when I was 14 and he was 20….I called a pay phone looking for a friend of mine who usually hung out around the street it was on ….well my husband answered….34 years ago…we have been married for 27 years this june. He buys me flowers but I feel them as a waste of money since they are jacked up in price around “V” day and die so quickly. My favorite thing that he does is when he finds a pay phone (which there are rarely any in this technology/wifi driven world) he takes a selfie of himself answering the pay phone and sends it to me…That above all is my favorite gift. Happy “V” day to all…
Most memorable Valentine’s Day would be the one when my husband purposed to me! Excited to celebrate 8 years on Saturday.
I’d Say getting 2 dozen roses for my anniversary/Valentine’s day delivered to the vet clinic I was working at during high school… it was delivered before I got there and ask the ladies were so excited they hid then from me for a little bit…..
I love, love, love the Crossfire series and would love, love, love to win this!!!!
My husband and I were married on Valentine’s Day 2005 – just the two of us… It was the best day ever! π
Can’t wait to get away this valentines as I’ll be leaving behind the cold of northeast pa and going to sunny Mexico!
Last year was the sweetest when my non romantic husband came home with flowers for my daughter and myself. The look on my daughters face was worth all the years he forgot.
The best Valentines Day was whin I planned a trip to Vegas!!!! I packed my husbands suitcase & picked him up @ work, then blindfolded him. All the way to the airport, but security made him the blindfold off. I then, put it back on him until we boarded!!! 4 days in Vegas w/ out kids, it was heavenβ€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈ Best one yet
Honestly, EVERY Valentines Day has been wonderful. It isn’t due to the love of a man, although a few of THOSE years were wonderful but more so…..I have had the love of many and love many myself. My amazing son and the love of HIS life…..my beautifully dysfunctional family, my crazy friends and my adorable fur babies. MOSTLY though, I have a love of myself and God and with all this love….how could every day of the year not be my favorite in some small way. Every day I am alive is amazing.
Sadly I have no memorable Valentines day story. I’ve been single for a while so it just becomes another day where I get to surround myself with my loves, my dogs.
One of the worst Valentines Day I will remember is when my entire house got the stomach bug. Haha we had a big night planned out. instead we were fighting over the bathroom. Hahah……
The most memorable was when my husband gave me for our first Valentine as a married couple Dozen roses and a diamond necklace, but he also gave my 4 year old daughter from my first marriage a 1/2 fx roses and a necklace just like mine. He showed so much love to a child that wasn’t even his.
My hubs, then my ,bf had been together for a year. We had broken up on 1st January. So after 45 days on v day, we got back together. He kissed me and we’ve been together since then
My birthday is the 15th (day after V Day) so I do not get chocolates, flowers, or dinner instead that is my day to spoil my husband and son with a great home cooked meal and favors for the hubby after our son is in bed π
I do have to admit I love watching my son read his valentine cards he gets at school; it is so cute when girls leave a personal notes.
Happy Valentine’s Day!
This will by my 14th VDAY with my hubby, I’m a terrible Valentine and he’s an amazing one! He blows me away each year with his thoughtfulness! <3
Mine would have to be last year 2014 because I was wheel chair bound. I had a broken foot in two places and sprained ankle and heel. I was so miserable!!
My boyfriend and me do the same thing every year. We get each other a simple gift and go out to dinner the day before Valentine’s Day because the restaurants are crazy the day of.
I think that this Valantine’s Day will be the most memorable. First because FSOG movie. Then my husband and I are not getting each other anything in lieu of going to Vegas where we got married 23 ago
My most memorable Valentines is when my hubby and I unknowingly bought each other the exact same card!
My daughter wrote me a letter telling me how much she loved me. She is only 5. <3 Nothing can beat that.
Thank you for the chance!

My hubby and I have a tradition for Valentine’s Day, we forgo the typical Valentine’s Day gifts and purchase unique art pieces together instead ~ one year we got a beautiful painting from a little art gallery in Charleston SC….it still hangs in our bedroom!
Would love to win this, I love this series!
My first date with my now husband was on Valentine’s Day. I will always remember being so nervous!!!
Best Valentines Day was the year before I married my husband. He told me that he was going to take me to one of my favorite Italian restaurants that’s very hard to get into on a normal day. As I was getting ready he called and told me to meet him at his place as there was a mix up with the reservation and that we would have to try and find somewhere else to go. I was really disappointed but was trying to not let him know that. Turns out when I got to his apartment, he had a table set with dinner from the Italian restaurant, he had made desert and had my favorite bottle of Champagne. Turned out to be an amazing night just the two of us.
The first Valentine’s Day after my husband and I got married. We made a special dinner together and a homemade cookie cake. It was extra special for some reason π Thanks for doing the giveaway!
Unfortunately my most memorable Valentines Day was the first Valentines Day with my husband….I was in a horrible car accident. Luckily everyone was ok. Not great but definitely memorable π Every one since has been great though π
Thanks for the giveaway!!!
My favorite Valentines was after an extended period of trying to get pregnant my husband brought home a German Shepherd puppy that I had visited several times at a local shelter… she had a big red bow around her neck with a card…
I brought home (unknowingly) a rescue shepherd from a different shelter; he had a note I attached to his collar telling my husband that the puppy would take very good care of the baby I was carrying… My husband, cried, I cried and the puppies ran around barking and jumping to get our attention
My most memorable valentines day was when my husband came home with balloons, chocolate, and a rose after making me thought he forgot all day long. π
Ok finished captivated…when is sequel coming?
Awesome interview and questions. Love this series and I would love to win as I already have the first 3 books, this would be a bonus to my set. Happy Valentines Day β₯
My most memorable Valentine’s Day was the one where my husband and I got each other the SAME card. What a shock, and delight and laughable moment. To this day I get a chuckle each time I think of it.
Oh please count me in! I love these books
I love when my son makes me vday cards
My husband proposed. Well boyfriend then lol… still going strong π
Valentine Day is also my birthday and 21 years ago my husband gave me my engagement ring (had it in his coat pocket and asked me to get his keys)at dinner with my 3 girls from my first marriage and the youngest who was 7 asked “does that mean we’re getting married?” We laughed and have had a wonderful life together!
Thank you for this awesome giveaway and Happy Valentine Day to all
I guess my most memorable Valentine’s Day was two years ago when got to spend the day with my boyfriend. Previous to this, we had lost touch for about 15 years- we were high school sweethearts. I am lucky that he is in my life and we have been through so much- together and apart. Truth be told- everyday is Valentines day for me. I am one of the lucky ones- and I don’t take it for granted.
My most memorable Valentines Day was last year. My boyfriend (now fiancΓ©e π ) did the usual romantic dinner with teddy bear and chocolates, but what made it special was the after. We just laid in bed, no naughtiness, and talked about everything from our fears to our dreams until the sun came up. However, I’m sure this year will be just as amazing as we are going to dinner in Seattle and he is taking me to see the Fifty Shades movie, because he knows I love it so much.
My most memorable Valentine’s day did not even include a man. My wonderful grandkids(boy and girl) made me beautiful cards all by themselves. Those cards and
the cookies they made just for me was so wonderful. I will never forget that day.
Love this !!! Ever since ive had my kids. My date is with one of them. Lots of fun. Thanks a bunch for the chance to win !
Happy Valentine’s Day!!! I got an early gift this year with my favorite cookies, chocolate, and a gift card for more books!
went out to eat
I’ve ways been that girl that is a friend to the boys. I was convinced I was invisible in that regard. Out of my 4 girlfriends I was always single. Now, I do recognize that I’m an introvert. I was never boy crazy and I was always reading a book or watching a movie. This one Valentine’s Day, this guy Eric asked me out and in an effort to be more outgoing and “act my age” I went out with him. I was incredibly akward and there just wasn’t that spark that i had read about, dreamed about, and waited for. I was miserable and we parted ways right after dinner. I was walking to my apartment when I saw Nathan, he was waiting for me. I had met him through one of my friends boyfriend months earlier. He made me smile when we spoke I felt this giddiness when I saw him but I never allowed myself to hope that he would see me. I knew my place by then.
He asked me what I was going to do for the night and i told him something to the effect of just hanging out
A ex boyfriend wrote a poem for me. I love poetry. Thank you for this amazing giveaway.
Three years ago. Even thought I didn’t go out and do something I had just found out that I was expecting my first son drake!:)
My most memorable valentines day will be this one (2015) after I win this giveaway!!!!!!!…<3
My best Valentine was when I got my first hand written Valentine’s Day card from my son when he was 4years old. Of course I still have it! β€οΈ
Flowers delivered to my work followed by a special dinner out!!
Not really a memorable valentines day ever but,I had a set if crystal champagne flutes I bought before I got married 22 yrs ago. I lent them to my daughter last year for her wedding day. 1 got broken that night on the way home. My husband thinks Valentines day is just a day the card people came up with.
I absolutely LOVE Gideon Cross! He’s my go to guy! Thank you for this and the interview was awesome as was her answers! Again, THANK YOU <3
Can’t wait for book 5. Any update on when?
Thanks
My husband buys me flowers every year … the day after valentine’s day (50% off!). I think it’s funny. That’s why he married me.
Every day and year I am blessed to live and celebrate with my forever valentine is something special.
My husband and I always cook a really spectacular meal together and before kids dinner was always very formal (like the day we were born formal)!!
Such a gracious soul to have made that video. Can”‘t wait for the next installment of Crossfire!
One Valentine’s Day my husband surprised me with a trip to the beach…and he gave me a Golden Retriever puppy! That was many years ago…but my husband and I always celebrate the day in some way…a card…a note with something sweet written on it.
My husband buys our two little girls (4 and 8) flowers and candy every year. It’s the sweetest thing ever.
For 29 Years, I was always single on Valentine’s Day. I felt cursed! In 1999, Don Krayeski and I went on our very first date together…on Valentine’s Day! I should have known that he was “the one” because he broke my 29-year-curse!!! We’ve been together for 16 years on this Valentine’s Day (married for 15 years)! We’re celebrating by going to see FSOG! Maybe this Valentine’s Day will be even better than our very first one!
Thank you for the chance to win!<3
We don’t really celebrate it as I think Valentine;s Day is every day for us. However I would love to leave a comment on how much I loved the crossfire novels. You are truely a gifted writer and would like to thank you gor sharing your talents with us your readers
My most memorable Valentines Day was our 1st together when I realized how truly and madly I was in love. That was 33 years ago and I’m still truly and madly in love!
my most memorable was not a happy one. it was last valentine’s day. i had waited til i got home to give my daughter her valentine’s stuff and had just walked in the door when her phone rang. it was her brother-in-law telling her that her father had passed away. he had been fighting cancer. not sure how this one will be for us.
Love Sylvia Day’s novels!
π
I’ve been married 35 yrs and my husband has given me flowers every yr without fail!
Last year for Valentines we went to the Moose for a dinner and dance. They were selling raffle tickets and I filled out 9 with my name and put my husbands on one. Well later in the evening they were calling for my husband and I thought what do they need him for and it was that he had won the Valentines Basket for us. We got 2 beautiful plush white robes, champange, chocolate covered strawberries and rose petals. It was a great feeling and so fun.
I’ve never really had any memorable valentine’s days to speak of. I have been able to spend them with my kids and husband over the past 5 years though an they have all been special.
I love Sylvia’s books!
I don’t think I have a best Valentine’s Day. they are all really wonderful especially the ones shared with my wonderful babies and husband.
My husband has always been a romantic! He has written me poems, bought me jewelry, taken me out to movies, dinners, and he always sends me flowers. We will be married 20 years this July. I am truly blessed because he’s not only been a wonderful husband but an even better father. Every Valentines Day is good, no matter what, as long as I’m with him.
The best valentines day for me would be last year. It was when me and my fiancΓ© had found out we were going to have another child. Now we’re blessed with 2 amazing little boys.
Well most valentines I don’t get flowers because we got married 2/6 so he doesn’t buy them twice in 8 days. But I think this valentines is the cutest. My 13 year old daughter made me a valentine heart and wrote that she was happy that “I helped her be born” That was just the cutest, sweetest thing ever!!!
I can’t think of one in particular. Usually I get breakfast in bed, which I love because I can be lazy and read while eating!!! Thanks for the give-away!!
Happy Valentine’s Day!!!!!!!
I love the crossfire series! The best Valentine’s day would be watching the television adaptation of this series if it ever comes to be!
I love Valentine’s Day! I look forward to it every year! Thanks for the great giveaway!
My favorite Valentine’s Day was 2 years ago when my husband came home for a 2 week leave pass from his deployment in Afghanistan. Totally love the crossfire series and thanks for the awesome giveaway!!!
My husband cleaned the house, watched the children and sent me to the spa.
I’m not usually a fan of Valentine’s day, but a bottle of champagne could make me one… π
On Valentine’s Day my husband usually surprises me with dinner plans which is a huge treat. I find I’m usually in charge of what my family eats so having a day where this decision is not only out of my hands but also a surprise is realllly nice;) It’s a simple “gift” but one I appreciate.
I plan to celebrate a cold Valentine’s night by getting cozy and comfy and starting a new book from one of Maryse’s always amazing lists. I always find more than one. Champagne and flutes would be a fabulous addition. Happy Valentine’s Day To All!!!!
Thank you for the post and the great interview, I found it so interesting that Gideon was a mystery to her for 3 books and yet was able to create a story that had me want to devour every word! Then when he did reveal himself Captivated By You was a seemless continuation and I loved it also. Bravo Ms. Day!
I have no ‘real memorable’ Valentines day event except I know that my husband always remembers it and makes me feel loved and cherished no matter how simple the gesture. π
Thanks for the chance to win this fun & fabulous package! =D
Had a great valentines day this year. My boyfriend and I took my son to the park. Then we had a great dinner by ourselves. Spent the night playing video games. Was just chill, laid back, and relaxing.
At the time We had only been dating a short time. (Been married 20yrs now . My daughter from prior marriage was only 2. He came to visit bringing chocolates and flowers for his Valentine… It was my daughter… I knew then I would marry him.
