Charyse Allan’s “KATE” is live (it was one of our Monday early birds this week)Β and it sounds both nervewrackingly exciting and poignant. Any book where the heroine is in hiding, has my attention!! π
And the author is celebrating her latest release by sponsoring today’s Friday Finds newsletter, having a giveaway and she’s sent over TEN FUN FACTS!! P.S. I get a kick out of Charyse’s name ’cause it rhymes with mine!! π
So what’s it about?
After escaping her past, Kate builds her life around a single purpose: staying hidden. ButΒ when the unexpected threatens to unravel her tightly kept secrets, her will to remain aloneΒ falters.
βKateβ is a fast-paced contemporary romance with an intelligent, headstrong heroine whoΒ fights against a dark past by clinging to her woven control and a sexy air force hero who insists on pushing her to relent that control. Surprising twists, secrets revealed, and the test of true love, βKateβ will have readers hungry for every word.
And the author told me:
“This was a story that I wanted to challenge myself with a more touching narrative, including some elements I have lived through personally, along with those around me….
I hope readers will find an inner strength in this story. Kate lived through a lot of traumaΒ growing up that some might not even see as trauma, but through it, she was able to find beauty and grow in love that she didnβt even know how to recognize. If anything, I hope people see that our past doesnβt define us; itβs what we do with it that does.”
Ten Fun Facts:
1.) Before I start writing a novel, I do a lot of research. I prefer to have a good layout of the setting, what the characters look like and their unique mannerisms. Iβm that author who likes to make sure the color, texture, or smell, matches the place, era, and time of day. My greatest tool is Pinterest; I have a board for every novel, which helps me make sure my stories are cohesive and consistent.
2.) My biggest challenge in writing is making sure the male characters donβt sound like the females. Women think differently than men and vice versa. More often than not, men are not inside their heads thinking a million thoughts at one time like most women are. My husband helps me make sure my male characters sound authentic, so their banter and thoughts donβt sound forced.
3.) Kate was my favorite character to write, thus far. Sheβs full of life, but tries to control every situation she encounters. Watching her grow and evolve was an amazing journey.
4.) The inclusion of Kateβs rare syndrome (Hyperemesis Gravidarum) wasn’t expected, but something I found would bring awareness to this hardship many pregnant women go through. It also allowed more depth with Kate learning to relent her control.
5.) If someone were inviting Kate over for dinner, they should prepare the highest quality steak they can find with peanut butter sandwiches or chocolate cake for dessert.
6.) If Kate were at a bookstore, she would be found in either the computer science or parenting section and right now sheβs reading I Heart My Little A-holes.
7.) Kai smokes like a chimney and tries hiding it from most everyone, although heβs not really fooling anyone, especially not Kate. She gives him crap for the habit every chance she gets.
8.) I love that jasmine was incorporated with the cover, since Kate always has the scent around her; it reminds her of her best friendβs house that is covered in jasmine.
9.) My upcoming releases include famous rappers, chefs, veterinarians, and criminals mixed with plenty of romance, life-altering choices, and added suspense.
10.) Hot Tree Publishing–who published “Kate”–and I have a working relationship that’s the better half of a decade, so it was easy to say yes when they offered to publish “Kate”. I am excited to see where my published career takes me next!
