The Girl in the Woods (Misted Pines Series Book 2) by Kristen Ashley <— KRISTEN ASHLEY’S LATEST IS LIVE!!!! FBI AGENT HUNTING FOR A SERIAL KILLER!! To celebrate this release, Kristen is sponsoring today’s newsletter!
The author says:
These characters begged (and wheedled… so much, they made the weather cooperate with them) to have their story told, so I’m ridiculously excited for you to read all about Rus’ journey to capture the Crystal Killer!
You’ll see some familiar faces in Misted Pines – some from THE GIRL IN THE MIST and maybe a couple you haven’t seen in a while! THE GIRL IN THE WOODS releases March 21
These are interconnected stories but each one stands alone. There’s never a dull moment for Cade Bohannan and Delphine Larue in Misted Pines, so I invite you to cuddle up, grab your go-to beverage and sink into this story so you’ll know the lay of the land (and get to meet Cade…and the twins)!
She also tells us a but about the heroine:
Our heroine, Lucinda “Cin” Bonner owns and runs a family owned business called Bon Amie. Once a Wild West bordello, it’s now a respectable burlesque club on the outskirts of Misted Pines. Our hero, FBI Agent Zachariah “Rus” Lazarus has seen a lot in his day, but he was not prepared for all that is Cin. Nor is he prepared for what will happen when he tracks the Crystal Killer to Misted Pines.
This body would be the last for Zachariah Lazarus…
The Crystal Killer’s latest casualty was discovered in a sleepy town in the Pacific Northwest, Misted Pines.
His years in the FBI, and tracking the Crystal Killer, have taken their toll on Rus. He lost his marriage to the job. And the burdens he carries for the victims was crushing him.
Misted Pines has recently survived a killer’s rampage and a town scandal that made global news. The media was primed to devour a new story. So Rus already has his work cut out for him.
But it’s more.
Something is just not right with this latest victim.
As Rus works with the local sheriff to unravel the mystery, the victim’s employer, Lucinda Bonner, decides she’s going to do everything she can to help.
To help Rus find the killer. To help Rus survive the hunt. To help Rus navigate the intricate, and sometimes sordid, history of the town of Misted Pines.
And to help Rus let go of his burdens.

Ok y’all, I need to discuss this book. I LOVE KA. Pretty much read everything she writes multiple times. I’m used to her style of writing & rambling sentence structure. But, who edited this book? 😳 Surely a big author like KA has professional editors…
At the beginning I kept getting distracted when it felt like a sensitivity reader had edited the chapters bc it kept having these random unnecessary caveats and comments that were distracting. We get it. You’re very online right now. That’s great, but It’s taking me out of the story bc I know *why* you’re doing it rather than it feeling organic to the characters. Just took me out of the story & was very *2023 culturally aware* rather than immersive escapism. Esp if you’ve read her backlog multiple times. Ya know?
Then there were entire (long) sentences later on (especially toward the end) that I would re-read & just think, “Kristen, what are you trying to say?”
Was it just me? Overall, I devoured the book & def need more from this series. But only bc I need more from side characters.
I am in Canada. Where can I find her books.
Hi Claudette. Amazon Canada probably has all of them too. I think if you click my link for her book, it will automatically forward you to the Canadian Amazon, and you can see the rest of her books there as well.
