Good morning!
My discounted KU membership expires soon and I’m not sure if I want to renew. At the rate I’ve been reading lately it wouldn’t be worth it. 🙁 Of course it expires during my beach vacay.
Leslie–I can’t remember if I know this or not, but do you enjoy reading mysteries or thrillers? If so, there are bunches of them in audiobook for free through KU. I’ve also found other genres. I’ve been trying to remember to shelve them on my ‘audiobook free’ shelf on GR, but I’ve only got 17 so far, and some of those may be free in the Audible Escape package.
I like to watch mystery/thrillers but I dont read them. That is awesome you are finding KU audios. I have taken advantage of several romance ones. Audiobooks rock!!
Good morning! I finished painting my foyer ceiling, stairs and interior of the front door. Now to paint the exterior door and sidelights!!! I also finished Filthy Vows. This book is reminiscent of her “Innocence” series and the erotic nature of it. It is fairly short, just over two hundred pages and therefore doesn’t have a lot of depth. It basically is a long drawn-out lead up to the h’s fantasy. HOWEVER, it doesn’t exactly end on a cliffhanger, but there is a sequel that will not be released until October!!! Ugh!
What color did you paint, Cheryl?
Maryse, somewhat boring neutrals. Ceiling- Chantilly lace and trim/interior door and sidelights- Orange Peel. The trim color is on the trim and doors throughout the house. Creamy white colors. The foyer has wallpaper above wainscoting/chair rail. House is old- 1904; however previous owners removed the original front door. I’ve been searching for an old one to go with my late Victorian house, but in the interim it currently is a dark oak stain on the exterior, not sure if will paint a color or re-stain.
Good morning! Lots of great books up there, but I’m getting ready to start one that Leslie picked for me–We Were Here by Daisy Prescott.
I’ve been wanting to read it for years, so I can’t wait! Actually, I REALLY can’t wait to read Geoducks are for Lovers, but when this came out after GAFL, the author said this should be read first.
And the weather is so wonderful here right now. It’s almost 11am, and it’s only 71 degrees! And it’s not raining!
I haven’t read any by her yet either Nay, but she’s very well loved and her stories sound hilarious (but not corny, ya know?)
That’s what I’ve heard too. I’m looking forward to being taken back to the 90s!
I haven’t read any by her either. The Geoducks one looks cute. I’m not sure about the college one set in the 90s, though. Hmmmm. I might try the sample of the Geoducks anyways.
Jan–since I was in college in the mid-80s, I’m hoping that’ll be close enough to bring back some great memories.
Yeah, I get that. I realised I’ve tried of her wingman series which I didn’t love that much. Still I might give geoducks a go. I like the title. No idea what it means LOL.
I posted above on my FLT–the geoducks are their school mascot! lol
I read the Penalty Box by Odette Stone yesterday. I have read all 3 books in this hockey series. I love hockey romances:) These books are perfect for summer vacation reading.
Kathy I love sports romances too. Noticed the first two books in the series are available on Hoopla. Going to listen to those and then get Penalty Box on KU..;)
So many good audio books on Hoopla, more so than e books. I liked the first book but enjoyed the 2nd and 3rd books more. Have you read any Rebecca Jenshak’s books? Her first is The Assist. There are 3 books in the basketball series. The 3rd book is coming out on Thurs. I think you would like them!
Kathy, I haven’t read any of her books, but I’m adding them to my tbr. Thanks!
Hi
Wanted to mention a bargain find. Julie Garwood, Honor’s Splendor is on KU right now…… Not sure if this is newly added to there or not…. but fingers crossed that maybe she is taking KU for a test run and will add more soon
Thank you Morgan. I wish there were more of the popular HR authors on KU. Most of the ones on KU I’ve never heard of. I’ve tried a couple but without much luck. I have been getting my money’s worth with CRs on KU, though.
Jan, Joanna Lindsey now has a few of her older books on KU.
Thanks, Kathy.
YAY!! Thank you Morgan!!!! I’ve noticed there are a few books from the big publishers being included in KU…
*squee* I can see re-reading older Garwood and Lindsey books. 😀
Hey, for those who go to the library to get books like me, I just found out our state has a program that basically lets you borrow from almost every library in CA and most in Nevada. I was thinking, especially for those books that are popular but aren’t at your library, check if there is an interlibrary loan program available. I just got Kill the Queen from San Diego and Into the Night from Mountain View. 🙂 Just a thought to help get those more expensive books. 🙂
Also, read the Kane series! It’s NUTS!
You can do this in some libraries in Australia, too (including my local one). It really expands the range of books you can get from the library. It’s great.
Tessa, YES! We can do that here in Mass and its great because Boston PL is huge selection plus a whole bunch of other libraries too.
Woot woot to free books!!
Just finished Endless Stretch of Blue by Riley Hart (M/M Romance). Five Stars. It is about two people who lost loved ones in a tragic fire and form a friendship over that loss. So good that I finished it in one day!
I LOVE Riley Hart!!!!! Thank you for the recommendation Kathy!!
Maryse, to reply to your comment from other post…you will be disappointed to hear that no one in my family eats lobster or seafood. ☹
Not sure what part of Canada you are from, but I assume you have been to Maine? It’s so beautiful there. We DO plan on enjoying fun treats at beach like homemade ice cream, fried dough and homemade candy shops. 😋
P.S. Florida is still one of my fave places. Hoping to be able to take my son on a trip there at some point. I haven’t been since before he was born.
GASP!!!! *thud* No seafood? Allergies or just don’t like it?
I have never been to Maine but my boyfriend’s family is from there so I will be going to visit soon. 🙂 I can’t wait to go!
We dont like seafood. I know…blasphemous!!
Oooh, that is super exciting that you will be going to Maine. I’ve been to a bunch of different places. I love Portland and Ogunquit.
I would like to go to Maine. And Florida. Just sayin’
I went to Maine about 5 years ago. First time ever heading that way for vacations and I’m embarrassed to say, I didn’t know New York was so big and country like. I honestly pictured NYC and was panicking about having to go through it. 🤦♀️ It wasn’t too much different than here, I think, where we stayed. My favorite was Portland. We went shopping there and had crepes. (I always remember the food 😜) All different kinds. And we took a seaplane ride somewhere. I’ll never do it again cuz it made me nauseas, but neat to experience. And the end, my pick was to picnic at this state park? Lighthouse area and wade on the beach. That was the best! The food was phenomenal all week. Of course I had to try a lobster roll. I didn’t like it. I prefer crab. Did you know McDonalds has lobster rolls there? I thought that was the funniest thing! I tried to get my hubby to try it, but he wouldn’t. Lol
The McLobster!!!!!! I remember that from so many years ago. Funny story – my first husband and I decided to just drive to the East Coast for our honeymoon. No real destination in mind – just get in the car here in Omaha and go. We just knew we’d eventually end up in Maine. On the last leg of our journey there, we stopped in New Hampshire to have lunch. Had the fried seafood platter, which was generally pretty darn tasty, but back East they serve fried clams with the stomachs attached, not just clam strips. I thought they tasted disgusting, so I ate one and nooooooo more. However, my husband ate his and mine. It must have been too rich for him, because he proceeded to get violently ill. By the time we got ourselves settled into a hotel in Kittery, Maine, he was so sick that I thought I was going to have to get him to the hospital. Needless to say, he didn’t eat anything for the next two days, I never got to eat Lobster in Maine, and I had to settle for getting a McLobster on our way out of town. Also…in Maine they pronounce oil as earl. went for a sandwich somewhere and they asked if I wanted earl on it. I was like “Hell no. I don’t want Earl touching my sandwich.” Ahhhh, good times!!!
Hahah!! That sounds like a romcom! Clam strips are vile. I also had a bad experience with them. I assume the oil for your sandwich would’ve been olive. 😂 In my opinion, you weren’t missing out on the lobster roll. I think lobster is too sweet. And it was cold and doesn’t mix with mayo. Not like crab.
Wait, you did get a Mclobster?? How was it?!
Amazingly uninspiring! Add to that the fact that it had a “Mc” in front of it, and it was even less impressive. I enjoy lobster, but not as much as crab for sure. had never had (nor have I had since that time) a lobster roll. I prefer my rich little nuggets of lobster floating in buttery goodness as they are meant to! Damnit!! Now I want crab legs, and it’s 7:30 in the morning.
Me too. And that lobster mcthingie. 😛
Ok, I have my book subscription drama resolved. I am not renewing my KU but…I AM doing an Audible Escape for 3 months at only $2.95 per month!! *happy dance*
I just love all these good deals.
Ohhhh wow that is SO CHEAP!!!!! I don’t have an audible subscription yet, so I can still get in on these deals. BUT I also don’t listen to audiobooks enough yet.
Leslie–I saw that deal late last night and was going to tell you about it, but I’ve been gone all day.
Maryse–if you’re like me, once you start listening, you won’t be able to stop! It’s so great to listen when you’re cooking, cleaning, doing laundry (it’s awesome when you’re folding clothes!) I’ve been listening to so many thrillers: Jar of Hearts (LOVED), the Gregg Olsen books I mentioned the other day, which are free in audio with KU, and, of course, the one I can’t shut up about–Blake Crouch’s Wayward Pines (and also Luther Kite) series. I’ve listed to other books of his that were great too.
I’m constantly walking around with my earbuds in and having to yank one out and say, “Huh?” to everyone in my house.
Nay, that is me too with the audiobooks. I even listen in the car. Love them!!
You used to hate them right? It’s all a matter of keep trying til you get used to it and then BAM, you get hooked.
Leslie–You’re probably thinking about how I hate listening to the male narrator do the female narration during sex scenes and vice versa. I still rarely listen to romances for that reason. Unless it’s duet editing–then I’m all over it! I’ve always loved listening to audio books in general, though. Back in 2014, that’s about all I was doing.
That’s me too. With all the painting I’ve been doing lately I have been listening to audiobooks. Makes it more fun!!
Leslie, I signed up for the free trial of Audible Escape. Where did you find the 3 months for $2.95/month offer?
Stacy, I just googled Audible Escape but I can’t find it now. Maybe it expired?? Or it might only show up for non-members?
The Penalty Box such a good book!. Reminds me of wall of winnipeg!
Is this the one by odette stone?
Puck Me Secretly is free right now!
Go for it. It’s a decent read.
I posted yesterday…and it disappeared. 😭
No matter. I’m here again. I think life is returning to some semblance of normal!
bev, can I get a cliff notes version of what I’ve missed?
Oh, and because I’ve been slacking!
I think bev is missing. I may have missed a post, but I haven’t seen her on here in probably a week? I was going to ask about her last night, but I feel asleep.
I think she’s getting ready for the “bunny/rabbit app” K-dramas coming up… I miss her though. I love her humor.
bev, where are youuuuu????? Hellllooooooo????? We miss you…….
YAY Grey!!!!! This summer has been fun but a bit hectic.
Another good find for KU, Penny Reid Knitting in the city series is there now. All TEN books!! Which made my morning as I haven’t read them yet but her Winston Brothers series is hilarious.
I need to read her again!! I’ve read a couple and chuckled, but I was more into angsty romance back then. I’m SO much more into the funny stuff now. 😉
Good morning! Happy Friday eve!
FLT:
“My first week of college at Evergreen was a blur.”
We Were Here by Daisy Prescott
Now I get the geoduck reference–it’s their school mascot! 😝
FLT:
The day of the massacre started out like any other.
Kill the Queen by Jennifer Estep
This is the one I got from San Diego and OMG, so goooooood! This has been a hectic week so I’m still not done, but it’s not the book’s fault. The action is fast-paced. The only slow was waiting for the massacre to start. lol But, all the talk and such beforehand actually matters later, even the minor stuff. I love that nothing was actually wasted.
Book #3 is already up for preorder! 🙂 And the cover is AMAZINGGGGG!!!!
Oh, wow, Maryse–that cover IS amazing!!
I’ve wanted to read this for a while and Michele recently rec’d it to me, so I’ll move it up the looong list!
My family laughs at me because I have the following shelves on GR. It started with ‘soon’ and it’s evolved over the years: Soon➡️Next➡️Next now not next later➡️On deck➡️Read this book dammit.
I’ll put this on the last shelf! 🤣
I always want to intuitively pronounce that as gee-oh-duck, because that’s what it looks like. But it’s goo-ee-duck, right?
Oh what?? I was always gee-oh-duck too!
Yes, the chefs pronounce it gooeyduck. And they’re vulgar looking suckers!
3 days till vacation! The pressure is on to pack and finish things up here. I got all 3 rooms done. Took nearly a full day for each. And the garage is spotless! You had to weave previously (that goes for all the rooms). I feel lighter, brighter, SO MUCH BETTER! I have to say I am super paranoid about all this flesh eating bacteria in the news. 😬 I pray we have a smooth, healthy trip.
I read 2 books! The first 2 in the Dark Legacy series by Jaymin Eve and Tate James. I need #3! Now, I want to read a book or 2 that aren’t out yet, a small handful I already have, and some that I don’t have, but want to have. 🤪 I really want to read The Guy on the Right by Kate Stewart and That’s What Frenemies are For by Sophie Littlefield and Lauren Gershell. And a fantasy or paranormal. I’m trying The One by Nora Roberts.
Glad to see that you’re back IN to your reading, Tasha! And that you’ve cleaned as I live among my piles. 🤣 But I got a steroid shot IN my elbow for tennis elbow yesterday, so I can’t lift my arm. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ So boohoo, no cleaning for me for a couple of days!
Hope you have fun on your vacation! Sorry if you posted already, but where are y’all going?
😂😂 I still have piles, they’ll never go away completely. But, livable. There’s dusting and mopping to be done, but I don’t feel as pressured for that. And OMG, my elbow hurts just imagining that. *shivers* What did you need it for? We’re going to Panama City Beach, FL. Stopping in Franklin, TN on the way down. There’s a bookstore I want to stop in there. ☺️ It’ll be something with 3 kiddos for 7 days, I think. The last time we went this far away it was only with 1. I loathe long car rides.
Don’t go in the water, don’t drink the liquor, and basically don’t have any fun!! It’ll be a dream vacation, huh? I hope it’s healthy, smooth, and relaxing for you. I so need a vacation. I’ve been taking off a bunch of time from work because I have a ton of vacation to burn, but not doing anything. And I avoid every opportunity to clean, but that’s hard to do when you’ve been sitting on your butt for five day weekends several weeks in a row while your husband works, and you haven’t cleaned the house. So, I decided I better go back to work and work full weeks so I can avoid cleaning!!!
Lol, I also avoid cleaning. That is why I had to take several days to basically spring clean. I do this several times a year. Let it get to the point it’s overwhelming and stress until I can take those days to fix it. I only ever have time for basic day to day laundry, dishes, sweeping, cooking, taxiing, babysitting, yada yada. So when it comes to the extra build up? I put it off till I can’t breathe anymore and huff and puff till I get it done. Who has time for fun anymore? We have to make time and DO IT! Even if it’s nothing somewhere or here, we have to take time to just be. But, I can be better anywhere when my environment is just so. Lol!!
I have to get in the water. I have to let the kids get in the water. We’re taking the risk. I am a bit terrified though. I’m sure I’ll be paranoid doing body checks for a week or so after also. I have to wonder if the media are hyping this up, as the bacteria is always there. But, it’s working.
Tasha–I live on the other side of Nashville (toward Kentucky) and when my sister lived in Franklin and I sold antiques on ebay, I used to go antiquing there all the time. The square/downtown area is wonderful.
My son just got back from Panama City last week. He said it was great.
Oooh that’s what I’m looking forward to, Nay. Franklin is for me, actually. Lol!
Did he get in the water?
Yes, he did. And I forgot to answer about my elbow. I’ve had tennis elbow for years from carrying my boys’ baby carriers on my left arm. I got my 2nd shot about a year ago and it seemed to get much better, but as soon as I used crutches for my broken leg, I reinjured it all over again. I’m avoiding another surgery for as long as I can. My body is already a pin cushion! 🤣 However, my ortho surgeon told me that I may be able to get the biggest plate out of my leg at the end of the year. If that thing is still hurting and restricting my knee bending, I may just take him up on it. You can feel (and kind of see) a corner of it just below my knee. GROSS! 🤮
Oh my gosh, I can’t imagine having all that pain or being poked and prodded consistently! *shudders* Those baby carriers are such a pain, aren’t they? My first 2, I moved them to convertible seats at around 5 months. With J, I didn’t want to waste it since I had to buy a new one and went much longer, but man it hurt! He was a problem feeder, for every bottle, if you remember, and feeding him in that thing while walking him around or swaying was one of my tricks to get him to drink. My arm would frequently fall asleep. At least I didn’t get any permanent pain though. *hugs*
I didn’t get the pain until years later, but we figured out that that’s what caused it. I seem to be a medical anomaly though.
Oooh❤️! Yes…it’s FLT! Except…I don’t have a FLT… I need one.
Hmm, I need a good bully. I know, I still need to read my PFM, but…I’m feeling some angst today. Tessaaaa!
Have you read the Dark Legacy series, Grey? It’s goood. Has that Fallen Crest-ish feel.
*perks ears up* um, I don’t think so? Who’s it by?
Jaymin Eve and Tate James. I wasn’t sure at first when I started it. I went in blind, thought it was going to be paranormal or something, but it sucked me in around 20% and I jumped right into book 2. #3 comes out Aug 11
Yeah, I was torn on your PFM between Mafia and his Angel and the Dark Legacy books. I’m with Tasha on this one. READ IT! Jaymin Eve can write characters better than most. Tate James can tell a story that will suck you in. Combine them… YAY!
Finished Kill the Queen and I need the next book, Protect the Prince, NOW! 😀 It was really good. The details weren’t ignored and gah, so good.
FLT:
Prologue: [Continuation of Recording] “Amira: My mother always preached that the more bite marks on your tongue, the happier your marriage.” Last Summer by Kerry Lonsdale. Loving the suspense of this story.
