HAPPY TUESDAY EVERYONE!!! 61 new books on today’s list and definite blurb jolts for me, so I will be posting my mini blurb jolt list! 😀 Also… I’m going to do another 2 things before we start out day with awesome book releases (and I. Mean. AWESOME!) I forgot one important thing yesterday, and so while I talk about it, I thought I’d bring you a mini “meal subscription” review. 😉
BUT FIRST… my blurb jolts: No Rep (by Lani Lynn Vale!!! A cop and a reclusive heroine that he once saved are at the same CrossFit gym!! YAY!! I love cop romances and reclusive characters), For Your Own Good (psych-thriller!! Teacher of the year that has a side of vindictiveness… “…His main focus is pushing these kids to their full academic potential. All he wants is for his colleagues—and the endlessly meddlesome parents—to stay out of his way. If not, well, they’ll get what they deserve…”) EEEEEEP!!! The Daredevil (her fake relationship with him… even though he has a disinterested exterior – love those aloof heroes!!), Southern Secrets (he’s everywhere she turns, and now he’s her new roommate!!), The Perfect Ruin (Shanora Williams’ latest!! Psych-thriller, and she wants to take her perfect life away from her!!! Ohhh revenge-stalker alert!!), oh and last but NOT least!!! Just One Look (Tasha J – my book twin – LOVED IT!!! And it’s another stalker psych-thriller, but in his office… Why are female stalkers so much fun? LOL!! In books! ALWAYS AND ONLY IN BOOKS!! “…A few clicks of her mouse and she can see every adoring word they write to each other. By peeking into their apparently perfect life, Cassie finds renewed purpose and happiness...” <— Again. EEEEEEEP!! 😱
And now… two more things:
1.) One of my new all-time favorite movies that I can’t believe I haven’t watched before, or even heard of (especially since I love Will Smith) was “Seven Pounds“. I watched it on Saturday and it rocked my world. OMG YOU GUYS. This movie had my heart, and I was hooked and so intrigued right from the start. It has SO MUCH DEPTH. And Will Smith rocked it.
And there are twists and turns and reveals that will take your breath away (and it ALL makes sense in its own special way). I was pretty excited that I guessed and important reveal correctly. Fair warning. Tissues ON HAND!! I cried.
2.) I wish I had actually videoed this and maybe TikTok’d it (hilarious missed opportunity because I love to shirk directions and boy did I with this!! All of my own personal side-talk while I was “trying” to follow directions and saying to myself… yeah… NO. Here’s how I’m going to actually do it…) I think that would have been so fun had I actually captured it.
So here’s my quick-comment mini review of my first “Hello Fresh” meal:
Maryse: Quick update!! I made the “one pan saucy beef and charred pepper tacos” and it was fabulous!!!
I was MUCH lazier than their instructions… this whole… fry the veggies… then wipe out the pan… and then fry the meat, then mix both back together and add the…
Get out of here! 😂 I have no time for that. You said “one pan” and I mean “one pan”
bell pepper slices and onion slices and meat and spices (and beef stock) alllll mixed at the same time in the pan… and guess what? Maybe not “charred” veggies but definitely perfectly delicious and cooked. Everything turned out perfect.
I kind of wish everything was prechopped since I have to cook it myself but it’s true that pre-chopped veggies are not great at staying fresh, so I get that.
Flavors… perfect!!! Very happy with this Hello Fresh meal. 😀
Oh and I threw their soft shelled tacos in my freezer and used my own super-low carb version (2 carbs). I love them just as much.
P.S. I nearly fainted when I realized each serving is 810 calories. OMG NO. Hopefully the majority of the calories are in their soft shell wraps that I decided NOT to use. 😉 Wishful thinking…
Mony: Sounds delish!
bev: That sounds delicious. I am not a good cook at all, just don’t have the patience for it, so usually follow recipes to the letter. But the last few weeks not so much when it comes to the measuring. The important parts like liquids sure, but half a cup of sliced Olives? Eh, just throw some in. Also not caring as much about if I don’t have a spice I thought I did. Salt and parm cover a lot.
Theresa: I love Hello Fresh and Home Chef…..I alternate between the 2. Just be sure to keep up with your weekly order. I have had weeks where I forgot to look at the menu and received too much or something nobody in my house will eat!
Jody: I did the Hello Fresh deliveries for awhile last year. I only ordered veggie meals. I stopped because it was expensive (for me), the quality was starting to get iffy and the choices were repetitive/ similar. But it did get me to stop being lazy. And try new things. One of my fave recipes to make is the Greek Goddess chickpea bowl.
R. Renee: I loved Home Chef, but after a while the meals began tasting the same. This is likely because I was sticking to low carb/low cal so my options were limited. I assume you’ll run into this too, so switching between companies is a good idea. The other issue we had was being tied to our meals so we didn’t lose them. Some nights we just wanted to go out or order in and we couldn’t do that if we had a fridge full of food. Also when the hubs took a spur of the moment trip, I was stuck eating double. We resolved this by cutting it down to a few times per week, but in the end decided to take a break. I definitely miss it though.
Now we’re doing eMeals, which fits us much better but has its own set of issues.
READER RECOMMENDATIONS & BARGAIN FINDS:

- Sweetbitter: A novel by Stephanie Danler <— INSTANT BESTSELLER SUPER-BARGAIN!! This reviews on this are either love or hate (and Michele G and Amy were 2 that DID NOT love it). LOL! But that cover intrigues me and the blurb, even more.
Michele G: as a sidenote – I absolutely and completely disliked Sweetbitter….you know I don’t say that often.
Amy: I figure with the reviews, it can go either way for me. Hausfrau has a lot of 1-star reviews yet I freaking loved it, but then Sweetbitter had a lot of 1-star reviews and I would agree with them…I just felt cruddy and disappointed after reading it.
- We Begin at the End by Chris Whitaker <— TASHA J FOUND US THIS SALE!!
Tasha J: We Begin at the End by Chris Whitaker is on sale on kindle today… I got it. I remember Michele really loving it and have heard great things.
Michele G: We Begin at the End by Chris Whitaker yesterday. Absolutely amazing! Gave me serious Where the Crawdads Sing vibes. It wasn’t set near the coast and wasn’t the same time period…it was all in the character development. I really loved it. …I had to pop in and let you know.
MichelleS: I just got in line at the library for We Begin at the End. I am number five! Woo hoo. You had me at “it has that Where the Crawdad’s Sing vibe”. I loved that book.
- The Lost Village by Camilla Sten <— TASHA J ALSO FOUND US THIS DEAL!
Tasha J: And then The Lost Village by Camilla Sten… I bought on paperback a little while ago and am tempted to get on kindle too. Just for convenience. 😂
Maryse: I’m that way too!!! I have a print copy of “The Last One Home” by Victoria Helen Stone ( I love her!!) and now the ebook is super-bargain priced… thinking of getting it too. For the same reasons. 😂

Loved A Good Day for Chardonnay as well! I badly need book 3 of that series.
And For Your Own Good + Small Favors are on my short list!
Finished Tessa Bailey’s way late last night…or early this morning? I went to bed at 2. Right after I binged the rest of Never Have I Ever on Netflix. 🙂 And I wholly enjoyed the book. Really wish there was more of the first half stretched longer and more banter. And less smexy scenes. But, overall it was a good one. Now to finish a BOTM so my subscription isn’t a waste.
Can’t wait to read A Good Day for Chardonnay! Been waiting for months!
More Levi in this one too, I loved it more than the 1st!!
We Begin at the End by Chris Whitaker is on sale on kindle today for 3.99, I got it. I remember Michele really loving it and have heard great things.
And then The Lost Village by Camilla Sten is 2.99. I bought on paperback a little while ago and am tempted to get on kindle too. Just for convenience. 😂
I’m that way too!!! I have a print copy of “The Last One Home” by Victoria Helen Stone ( I love her!!) and now the ebook is super-bargain… thinking of getting it too. For the same reasons. 😂
Oh, I loved her book, Jane Doe!!
I’ll be adding these sale finds too! 🙂 Thank you Tasha!!
Finished my July tbr in time for the new Kleypas.
I’m super curious about this one.
Jan if you pop up let’s BR it. Unless your already done, lol.
I’ve finished it bev! Sorry about the buddy read. LOL. It was a lovely, very romantic read. 4.5 stars. I really enjoyed this one 😀 Hope you do too.
Tasha and others…
My daughter loved Sun Down Motel. She’s on holidays & we’re all minding the baby – so she’s reading like crazy and has run out of books.
Any suggestions for other books along the lines of that one and Night Swim, The Last Thing He Told Me and other mystery/suspense books?
Thanks everyone!
The Burning Girls by CJ Tudor
The Guest List by Lisa Foley
The Hunting Wives by May Cobb, you either love it or hate it, like Desperate Housewives, I loved it
The Last Time I Lied by Riley Sager, just finished that one this summer and loved
We Were Never Here by Andrea Bartz
A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder and the second is great as well, but has a conclusion
Grown by Tiffany D. Jackson
The Other People by CJ Tudor
The Herd by Andrea Bartz
If she likes a little comedy with mystery, I’m obsessed with Finlay Donovan is Killing It and preordered #2 for this Feb, I believe
Also, so glad she loved Sun Down!! Broken Girls by same author is great too. And, I also really liked The Last Thing He Told Me. Hope she (and you) enjoy your quality time. 🙂
A big thank you Tasha! My daughter loves these titles and sends her thanks as well. She’s already reading The Last Time I Lied. Nothing like a mom of a baby being freed from child care…goes wild reading books. LOL
Awesome, hope she enjoys!
And that’s exactly what I would do. 😉
For anyone curious, btw, I think if you like To All The Boys I Loved Before & The Kissing Booth, Never Have I Ever is for you! I binged in a week or 2 and think I’m Team Ben all the way! Hope there is a season 3!!
I know this is way off base, but every time I start reading a ton more romance books, it makes me want to try a little harder to look better everyday lol. Anyone have any good makeup suggestions? I like to keep things on the lighter more natural side. Thanks!
Hi Janie!
Ive switched everything up for me to be on the lighter side, because it’s summer and I want a slight glow and nothing too heavy. I just want to glow and look healthy.
For me, it’s mascara without fail (my eyelashes are blonde and not very striking without mascara), a light color under my bottom eyelashes (for now I’m into this pretty mint green eyeliner – very light application)… just a hint of peach eyeshadow on my eyelids (and literally just one color), peachy pink – or full on pink pink on my cheeks (but applied modestly – for a sun kissed glow), and a neutral light pink glossy-lipstick on my lips (sometimes I’ll add a bit of lipliner first but most often – the naked shiny lips looks fine for me).I use Buxom.
So that’s been my makeup routine for the last couple of months. 🙂
And I ALWAYS do my hair… long layers, large barrel curling iron for soft look waves.
Thank you, Maryse! I’m going to try all of your tips, your looks sounds so fresh faced and pretty!
At 70% of Devil in Disguise. I really really like these two characters which is also why I’m a bit disappointed. I like them and their chemistry so much I wish more time had been taken with them getting to know each other, banter with each other, and fall for each other. Kleypas is so good at writing chemistry between characters that I can’t help but want her to really dive into that. I saw a review at SBTB that gave it a B- and I’d probably give it that too or a B.
I just love watching the fall and wish more would take time with that. Also when the characters are slowly revealed to each other they are also revealed to us the reader.
Thanks Bev for the feedback…really helpful.
I wholeheartedly agree, bev. Haven’t read this one, but that slow burn and “living” is everything to me, when I’m reading.
Ooh I already replied to your comment above, bev. I gave it 4.5 stars. I understand what you’re saying about the getting to know each other bit. I do kinda agree. But still, the book just swept me along and I really enjoyed it. I’m giving it an A 😀
I just love the way she writes though. I wonder who the next couple will be if she keeps up with the Wallflower family.
This is really making me want to finally go to England and/or Scotland. 2022 will there be safe travels? 🙏
Pre-Covid, I had planned to go to England and Scotland in 2021 or 2022. Not sure when I’ll get there now….. 🙁
I was very sad to hear about the death of C.M. Owens. I read the majority of her books – they made me laugh a lot & sometimes just stunned me. Favourites are Worth It – co-written with SM Shade – with its unimaginable bachelorette party, Maverick with the sharp wit of the little brother, and Wilder (The Wild Ones), with its first date complete with fresh deer & joints. A talented writer.
Double date night in Tomahawk
Him: “Be prepared for the best date of your life, pretty girl.” A dead deer is on the front porch…
Her: “What kind of date consists of killing and skinning a deer?”
Him: “We were going to cook you fresh tenderloin for our date…we wanted to do the date right,”
Her: “Just curious, how often do you date?”
A very distinct, familiar scent wafts into the cabin…
Her: “Are they seriously smoking marijuana out there?…who smokes pot on a first date while skinning a deer?”
The door reopens, and Kai walks in, winks at me, and sucks on the blunt—I think it’s called a blunt anyway—that is hanging out of his mouth.
Her: “Are you smoking weed?”
Him: “Sorry,” he says as he pulls it from his mouth and wipes off the end. “Was I supposed to let you hit it first?
Maryse, do you have a “Romance Suspense” book list? Books similar to Tiffany Snow’s books like the Kathleen Turner series and Corrupted Hearts series? Romance and action all in one?
FLT
Sunshine stared into her cup of coffee as though it were a witch’s cauldron, a window revealing all the ways she could kill her parents.
A Good Day for Chardonnay by Darynda Jones
Loving this one…
❤️ it!
BOTM were released today for August and I think I’ll *gasp* skip this month. I have only done that once in my year + subscription. Nothing is screaming at me and I’m so behind on what I’ve got anyway. Andrea Bartz’s We We’re Never Here is an add on and I may have done for that if I hadn’t already read an ARC of it.
Also, I signed up to go crabbing on vacation and have never cooked a crab before. I was told just to steam them for 20 min. So, I’m a need a particulars for cooking kind of person. Anyone ever cooked blue crab? 🦀💙 I want a simple meal idea for that day. So I don’t mess it up. Lol!
