HAPPY MONDAY EVERYONE!!! We have a pretty great early birds list (that one to the left sounds incredible and like it maybe it wants to hurt me!), and check out tomorrow’s preview. That list is going to be exciting!! What’s everyone reading, or planning on reading?
Three things:
1.) Spring is pretty much here in Florida, and I’m getting that gardening urge, BIG TIME!! I need a ton of gardening soil first though and that requires me to venture out and buy bags of it. Which I’m not going to do, so… *sigh*
2.) I’m reading “Pretty Girls: A Novel” by Karin Slaughter (just started it) and there’s a character in the book (a cheer mom who’s really good at cheerleading too) who’s name is “Penelope Ward”. Tee hee!!! Now guess who I “see” whenever this character is in a scene? 😆
3.) I’m going to have a Blueberry cobbler flavored coffee this morning. Those make me happy! Not my absolute favorite flavor but certainly a nice cozy pick me up in the morning. Here’s the ground version in the bag.
P.S. ALSO STILL ON ➔➔➔ TWO FREE MONTHS KINDLE UNLIMITED DEAL!!! <— If you haven’t tried it yet, now’s your chance. 😲👏👏👏

I got an ARC of Not According to Plan and it was a disappointment. It was very boring. I was really excited when I saw the cover and the description. I guess the plot had real potential, but it fell flat.
Can’t wait for Honey-Don’t List!!!!
Ahhhhh bummer!!!!
How are you feeling Harper? 😀
I’m good 😉 no one sick in my family yet, so that’s a win for sure! How are you?
So far so good. Worried.
1. On the gardening topic, I found spider mites on my basil yesterday. First time I’ve ever had an issue with them here. Promptly tossed it and washed the pot. Now I feel like they’re everywhere and I dk what to do. It was near a few succulents for about a week and I feel like if I spray them, they’re done for.
2. On reading, I finished an arc of Someday in Paris over the weekend and I was huffing and puffing, scoffing and ranting the ENTIRE way through. I relayed every point to the hubs (he was thrilled) cuz I needed someone to tell. It was super angsty, but too much for me personally. Now I dk what I’m in the mood for. Options: All the Stars and Teeth, Crescent City, Lock Every Door, The Bear and the Nightingale, Good Girls Lie, that one I got from Book of the Month…decisions, decisions.
3. I still want a darn latte and I’m ready to eat my chocolate banana ca- *AHEM*! bread.
How are you feeling Tasha?
And what are you in the mood for right now? I wanted something intense that would keep me guessing so that’s why I chose Pretty Girls.
I dk, I think I need out of this world, but at the same time, a page turner, something a little ‘biting’ if you will. But then I also need a bada** heroine, some push and pull, some intrigue. I chose Lock Every Door and Food Girls Lie for a little spook, a little mystifying settting, but sounds like I should go with something else from my mood description.
Enjoy Maryse! Great book!
1. Waiting impatiently to see if things will get any stricter here. I think we all should get stricter restrictions.
2. It looks like we are coming into some rain. I love rain so I’m here for it, but also might keep more people home.
3. Cereal and coffee are calling but I dont feel like moving.
OMG I WOULD LOVE A DAY or two of rain. It hasn’t rained here in weeks. My outdoor plants would really appreciate it.
It rained here all last week and snowed last night. Should warm up a bit through the week (50s).
1. I want a garden! I’m trying to get my husband to build me this: https://bit.ly/33CHaWc but he’s more inclined to build me this: https://amzn.to/2vHbvpV. We have deer to consider so it will need a fence no matter what we do. He *could* just fence in a square off the side of our shed and I could make planter boxes out of cinder blocks and fill with dirt. First I should probably get Gardening for Dummies because I don’t even know when or what to plant!
2. Today is my grocery pickup day and I’m wayyyy too excited about it. Almost everything in my list says “unavailable” so it’s kind of exciting to see what I’m going to get! Like a mystery trunk full of groceries! I have another grocery pickup scheduled for Thursday and I plan to start another one today for next week.
3. We’re also stocking up on booze today too. The hubs is going to call the local store and have them put together a care package for us! #priorities
LOL!!!
I like your style, R!!! 😉 Surprise boxes and most-excellent care packages.
Where are you ordering your food from R? Is it a local grocery store doing it for you?
Yes a local chain but not my usual. This one is about 30 minutes from me. Thursday’s store is right down the street. We never shop there because it’s touristy and $$$ and limited in options, but now we all are, so I figured I’d try it. It’ll be another full week before I’m out of self quarantine but even then IDK if I’m brave enough to venture inside a store!
That is awesome they offer that service.
It really is. IDK what we’d do without it. Make the neighbors shop for us I guess!
Sounds like a fun project for the two of you, good luck!
I’ve yet to actually see in person the horror of the grocery stores here. I’ll leave it to the hubs. We could do pick up, I think, but I’ve never done it. I tried once and it stressed me out seeing things online. I have a system when I go to the grocery and an order and it takes me more time hunting online than it would in store. Also, I never write everything I need down. Seeing is listing. Lol
We just added 2 M&M peanuts and 2 Fruit& Nut bars to our order. Afraid to order more – likely to just eat all one day. 🙂
I have some of those Robin, I actually hate gardening, love cooking and reading. But my husband is a dynamo in the harden , his Knick name is Mr Green fingers. We grow heaps of veggies and have fruit. But our garden is a formal garden.
So lucky and that’s amazing!!! I would love to have that ability. I eat vegetables constantly so to have a constant supply of fresh would be amazing, and so gratifying knowing I grew them myself.
We’ve been talking about growing a garden for years because we eat a lot of veggies, but we recently started eating organic and our grocery bill skyrocketed, so the timing is right. And now, organic isn’t even a choice. We’re lucky to get veggies period! I just learned of a local guy who boxes up his surplus and sells it at $10 – $20 per box on Saturday mornings. You just drive up and he brings it to your car. I think we’re going to check it out this weekend.
This would be great!! No more waste, for now anyway…
I feel like a tactical commander trying to plan my grocery shopping!! I have to shop for my in-laws and my family. I am trying to shop for my parents but they keep going out. My mother is 79 and my Dad is 87. I’m threatening to take her keys away! I’m in CA and it is supposed to rain tomorrow morning so that is when I will go. I figure most people didn’t want to shop on the weekend so will shop today in better weather. That is my plan anyway!! But on a bright side to this situation, we pulled out the Monopoly game that I had played as a child and played it with my 17 year old and 13 year old. First time, they had played it! My son has inherited my husband’s competitiveness!
If you scroll down to the video of the Italian mayors being DONE with people, it is awesome.
But I disagree about Stewart. Unless she lives with those friends.

Happy Manic Monday!
1) Knock on wood–our homestead is still hanging in there. We’re down to oldest son working at the restaurant a few days a week doing takeout only and hubs taking up the slack at the Lowe’s fulfillment center. We have 3 cases in our county right now, but Nashville keeps growing.
2) Hubs went to the store yesterday just to get what we’re out of and when he got home, he had a panic attack. Seeing all those empty shelves just did something to him. We’re trying to watch mindless entertainment to take our minds of things. We’ve seen Forrest Gump 3 times since Friday.
3) I’m listening to The Last Post by Renee Carlino. I’m at 20% and it’s decent so far. The H is a bit neurotic, which doesn’t make me interested in knowing more about him, but his “voice” is smart and kind of quirky in a good way, so I’m staying with it.
I finished The Chain. I’d give it a solid 4 stars. Very creepy and disturbing. Great writing and I enjoyed the narration.
Everyone stay virus/bacteria/germ free!
Hang in there Nay! Finances stress me out the most since we rely only on the hubs. He’s one dept. that they deemed essential so he still gets work and now 88 additional hours of vacation time since everyone else got paid time off. Hours are significantly cut though. For 2 years he’s worked 12-14 hour days 7 days a week and they’re not allowing overtime anymore. So, while this extra time at home is nice, we need to be more careful with spending. Especially if things change more.
Turns out he’s no longer essential (my hubs), just ordinary, and now we’re stuck w/him until April 6. Lord help us.
Because when he’s here, it messes up the balance. The kids start acting out. I start acting out. A little more gets done, a lot more gets piled up. I feel caged. I need options. I’m going for a wee drive tomorrow or sumthin.
Turns out 80% of the time, I’m fine. Every now and then I feel stuck. I think with the option, I might not even go anywhere, I just want the possibility. In April, cuz if it’s longer I bet I snap.
Hugs to Mr. Nay! Tell him I was the same. I was choking back tears the other day in grocery store. It’s awful. I’m sure he is scared to bring home something to you and having to go to multiple stores just to get what we need exposes us even more. It took me and my hubs days and several stores to get toilet paper! I take care of my 87 year old Dad and I’m so scared of infecting him or me getting sick and not being able to care for him. But for now I’m trying to be grateful that we are all healthy.
Take care of you Leslie. We’ve been pretty active here if you just want to chat about whatever.
I’m thinking about trying to garden with a pack of seeds and, well nothing else really.
Maryse REALLY WANTS CHEESE, but still won’t eat a banana.
Tasha might be close to sneaking out of her house in the middle of the night and building a tree house to live in instead. She may let the dog visit but not the kids. They have to learn to climb first. If they can reach her they get her.
R is going all Iron Chef on us with her surprise grocery bag. I’m guessing spam, barely, circus peanuts, and buttermilk. AND CHEESE.
Also, we might watch a show about a King and Tigers. Join us for a movie night. I wish I had popcorn and licorice.
I got everything but milk, cream, my husband’s happy bean bean soup 🙄(Campbell’s bean with bacon), and cherry pie filling. Seriously? Who out there is baking pies? I want them for Belgian waffles that I did not get enough of in Belgium.
Almost everything else was substituted one way or another, the most disappointing being frozen veggies with cheese sauce instead of just plain. I’ll be eating those as a last resort. Luckily my neighbors found us milk and eggs and we have the extra TP they were lacking so it all works out!
This is the most accurate depiction of my life right now. Spot on, Bev. 😂👍🏻🤣
Ok I keep seeing Tiger King making the rounds. I honestly usually stay far far away from true crime, but heard it is bonkers. Just a crazy ride. I’m thinking of hitting play, maybe today or sometime this week.
Anyone watched it or want to join me?
Okay wait…. tell me more about this Tiger King. I will join you tonight as soon as I get home from work!!! 😀 I have to work on the new releases tonight for tomorrow, so that will entertain me while I work.
I dont know much about it. I saw mention of someone like Chrissy Tiegen watching it and tweeting it something. And then saw it somewhere else. Then today on Lainey gossip is a post about it. It has a picture of a man with bleach blond hair wearing a shiny shirt and hugging what must be his pet Tiger. Then the lead in says:
Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness with a classic “hold my beer” moment. Do you think McMillions is the craziest true crime story you’ve heard? That’s only because you have not yet seen Tiger King, which is like McMillions on cocaine. Tiger King is so f-cking bonkers, it never stops delivering “wait, WHAT?!” moments. This story has everything: a cast of characters so colorful they’re almost self-parody, Florida, arson, fraud, a mysterious disappearance, hitmen, self-produced music videos, and actual lions, tigers, and bears. Oh my.
I stopped reading and though maybe I’ll take the journey first. You in?
Under Locke is free right now on Amazon! I love that book. Basically I just love Mariana Zapata.
ME TOO!!!!! I still have to catch up on a few of her latest…
I have listened to Wall of Winnipeg and Me, Kulti and Wait for It so many times….. (oh, and Luna and the Lie!) There’s just something about her books – they hit me with all the feels. Also, Callie Dalton does a wonderful job bringing the characters to life in the audiobooks.
You Guys!
ALL of Kimberly Adams books are FREE for a few days! That means you can read the whole ROAM series for free, plus the Fire Ballad series. This is one of my most read and beloved series. I know a lot of Peeps liked her book First, that’s free too! It’s all free! The most depressing thing is I have all of those books and I can’t read them for the first time.
So, happy news! Ella Summers released Angel Fever yesterday, the last of the Immortal Legacy series. I’m 3 pages in! lol For those who read the Legion of Angels series, this spinoff is a prequel trilogy about Nero’s parents. She said that the 9th Legion of Angels is coming next.
I went to ACE over the weekend and they do curbside pickup for garden things. I loaded up on soil! You can order online or call in your order. I live in the Tampa area and there are also many small, family owned garden places doing similar things. I’m on a lot of fb garden groups if you need help locating a non commercial place. Lots of plant starters and seeds for heat tolerant items at smaller places. I’m ready for the long haul of staying at home and need my veggies!!
Thanks for the tip Sarah! I wouldn’t have thought they’d do curbside. Maybe we can start that project sooner than later!
There are a lot of great gardening groups on Facebook. Most likely in every region of the country (I’m in FL and my fav group is for anyone in central FL). I find that gardeners in general are super helpful and love to share the knowledge to beginners. Most of my garden friends are loving life right now bc they don’t seem so crazy for their garden addictions now lol
I’ll look! Thanks!
From Canada…Hope it’s okay to share what my family’s doing here about COVID-19.
(Little taps on the noggin’ might be involved once in a while)
This might seem over the top – but there are good reasons that measures are so severe in many countries &. may even last for several months (UK seniors may be isolated until August).
That being said, here we go…
MONY’S HARD-CORE HOME RULES
NO VISITORS AT HOME (means no one “over for a coffee”)
– recent study reported that up to 18% INFECTED PEOPLE SHOWED NO SYMPTOMS
HANDS
– One study FOUND 95% OF HAND WASHING FOR COVID-19 IS INEFFECTIVE
– Washing 20 seconds between fingers, thumb, wrists, under nails
Good little video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=seA1wbXUQTs
GROCERIES (ordering on-line and pick up) (Walmart’s been amazing in Canada)
– 3-4 month supply (really!) Increasing HOARDING here as measures increase.
– Disinfecting grocery cart handle, buttons to be pressed, etc. or just wearing gloves
– Isolating groceries at home for 24 hours & WASHING HANDS afterwards.
NOTE: Studies report that CARDBOARD can be infected for up to 24 hrs, STEEL & PLASTIC 72 hours.
TEXTILES – less time but can hold virus.
BOOZE – ordering 2-3 month supply. Really. (Hoarding happening here)
Including TEQUILA (kidding…hmm, maybe not)
(Our ALCOHOL & CANNABIS stores remain open) 🙂
MEDS – Ordering ahead for as many months as possible
(Majority of ingredients in presc. drugs manufactured in CHINA. There’s a new lag for some drugs.
Stocking up on flu meds, Advil/Ibuprofen, Tylenol/Acetaminophen (IBUPROFEN has been cleared as OK)
WORK
– Speaking up if problem. (Nephew did about bottle returns at beer store)
– WASHING HANDS 3-4 times a day, END OF WORK AND RETURN TO HOME (yup, boring),
– Wiping down WORK SURFACES (e.g. counter, keyboard)
– Keeping distance 6 feet from people (NOT shaking hands)
PUBLIC PLACES ONLY for essentials. Keeping 6 ft space – HISSING at others if they don’t 🙂
TAKE OUT FOOD – Early studies report food is low risk.
Asking it be left on porch. Isolating packaging and placing food into another container. Wash hands.
WIPES & CLEANERS – stocking up. Making sure bottle says it kills viruses.
Have in car, front hallway, etc. If we run out, will use US CDC alternative (see below)
Disinfecting HIGH-USE things and areas
E.g. credit card, steering wheel, car door handle, door knob on front door, etc.
PURRELL – have in purse, front hallway, car, etc. (If alternative, making sure solution 60% alcohol.
Fighting with spouse because together too much…
KEEPING IT REAL – going out for walks, looking at the moon & stars on night walk, listening to birds and children laughing, looking for signs of spring, and all that normal stuff
——————————————-
From U.S. CDC – COVID-19 Disinfectant – BLEACH AND WATER:
To make a bleach solution, mix:
5 tablespoons (1/3rd cup) bleach per gallon of water OR 4 teaspoons bleach per quart of water
My state just went on a stay at home order and it makes me want to go shopping again, lol. Just get what I need and stay home for the next 3 or 4 weeks. But I also have enough now for at least 2 weeks. But it triggered that urge. Not worried about food supply…..well people might of ran through the store after the order, but the urge to hunker down for x amount of time.
I didnt quarantine my goods but did wipe them down with paper towels and a bleach based cleaner. It was odd to buy a cold drink but not drink it until I cleaned it.
Anyway. I like the lockdown and just wish the whole country would do it.
Apparently it does make me feel better to hoard dog food. I just ordered another 30lb bag and a box of wet food. Well, she is stocked up now, lol.
I love that you have your dog with you through this. My dogs are well stocked too. They are my happiness.
I get those same triggers, but me too, I’m stocked for a few weeks. I don’t have to leave.
Homework was sh*t today. I spent 3 hours Saturday helping my daughter read like 4 articles, take notes and write a children’s story about glaciers and the Great Lakes. This week is a Thomas Edison essay and I think the Civil War. I really strongly dislike history and science. Still, to this day. I spent an hour today trying to figure out a tricky math problem. And I still dk the answer. Like one of those escape room type things that I would never escape. 😒 I quite enjoyed finding the parts of a sentence and comparing and contrasting and English stuff. Every day the teachers have a new app to add or some extra stuff in case you’re bored or substitute assignments and it’s messing with my system and I’m frustrated. J screamed during every minute of it, didn’t nap, it’s becoming harder by the day. The middle spent an hr and a half eating dinner tonight. I kid u not; he’s on a swallowing strike. It’s like his brain is at war with his mouth. He’ll chew a bite of corn, peas, beef n noodles, whatever for 10-15min PER bite. Also, there was a lot of frustration tracing letters today. Maybe cuz it’s Monday? I dk, but it was a poo day.
I love this from Shonda Rhimes on homeschooling:
https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.cnn.com/cnn/2020/03/17/entertainment/shonda-rhimes-homeschool-coronavirus/index.html
So the Tiger King is broken up into eps. I watched the first two. These people are…..interesting. The first ep is a sort of introduction and then the second gets a little crazier with a 😮cliff hanger.
I watched an episode or two… I feel it’s too crazy for me. I’m sort of interested but they are all just so over the top.
Completely. On one hand I’m curious because I think some one ends up dead or missing but on the other hand I dont like any of them and dont like spending time with them. I guess the crime element of true crime.
Except the cats. People need to stop. They are so beautiful, just perfect.
Oh, the one being the maybe basis for scarface? Was not expecting that. What if he’s your neighbor?
1. My school closed today, and I did my first day of teaching my high schoolers online, via video-conferencing. They all logged in and were quite excited about the technology. The novelty may wear off quickly though LOL. But sfsg.
2. My son has a chest infection but thank goodness it’s not the virus! Gave us all a scare. He and his wife are expecting their first baby. I don’t know how it affects pregnant women 🙁
3. There have been huge lines outside government offices yesterday and today with people who have lost their jobs (due to their workplace being forced to close) queuing up to apply for unemployment benefits. Some queuing for up to five hours :-0 Trying to keep up their social distancing while queuing. I feel for them. At least I can do my job from home.
So scary, Jan.
My daughter is 39 wks pregnant and had also been worried. Son is an epidemiologist and tells me research to date shows that there isn’t an increased risk to pregnant women and newborns (although it may have an impact on delivery options for infected pregnant women). It’s been a relief for her to know that.
Her midwifery group has stopped home visits and home births due to potential infections from homes. Also her husband is not allowed to attend prenatal visits at the clinic. Access to labour ward now limited to fathers and staff only, etc….
So scary for her Mony. Just not long ago she didn’t even imagine THIS as an issue with her delivery…
yea, we had an airbnb set up for a month just to help and hang out.
But concerned about exposure to the baby – health staff are starting to say that even grandparents shouldn’t be in contact (FaceTime!).
So likely not going – it’ll be her call.
Good news though – airbnb says that, with coronavirus, reservations can be cancelled and we can get money back.
Hey, Problem Child by Victoria Helen Stone is out (Jane Doe #2) and KU!! I loved that 1st book and I know you did too. 😉
Heck yes I did!!!! I posted it on the Tuesday list. 😀 *claps with glee*
Oops, I didn’t even know it was Tuesday!!! 🤦🏼♀️
