HAPPY MONDAY MY BOOK CREW!!! Start of a new week and new reading adventures, including these early bird book releases. But first…
THREE THINGS:
1.) I pet horses this weekend. 🙂 They were so friendly, though not so much with each other. Who knew horses were jealous and territorial?
2.) I went down into a Florida aquifer on Saturday. The most amazing beautiful blue spring, in a cave and it was SO neat to see! We can even snorkel in it, but it’s pretty cold.
3.) There was an alligator in one of our post offices in my area last week (he just walked right in on his own late one night), and I just found out it was one of my friends that was called upon to trap it! Can you imagine walking into your post office, and right there in the lobby is a gator just hanging out? GASP!! LOL!!

1. I found an old bead bracelet made by my kids way back and have been wearing it in last few days. Blast from the past. Very groovy. 😎
2. Went to our local farmers market on Saturday – it’s 1 block away from our house. Asparagus, strawberries, a new Chinese green, fresh basil. (One way traffic, face masks 😉)
3. After 2 months of lockdown in our province, restaurants are allowed to open outdoor patios (only)! Lots of smiles & laughs in our neighbourhood this w/e as people, wined & dined in 25C weather. 🍹
I hear that in Montreal, all the terraces are open for business now (outside only) except that the construction crews are tearing them all out to renovate so there’s nowhere to eat. 😂
🙂
1. I had two graduation open houses this weekend and one was outdoors and I felt like I was melting. Phew was it HOT this weekend!
2. The cicadas here (Indiana) are getting worse by the day, but thankfully there aren’t trees by my house, so I haven’t come across them, UNTIL I drove 30 miles south to dinner on Friday. One landed on me and I about had a heart attack! I was literally frozen in place with my eyes closed yelling, “get it off of me! Get it off of me!” My fiance was dying laughing, but he did come to my rescue. Lol I don’t mind small bugs, but big bugs are a hard NO for me!
3. I just finished the third book, Ruins of Chaos, by Amelia Hutchins and I’m DYING for the next one! This series is blowing my mind! Each book just gets better and better! It’s bringing out all the emotions in me which is a good sign of a great series! It’s just agony waiting for the next installment, especially when you get on a roll of reading one book after another. It’s like a movie I never want to end and then I’m forced to hit “pause.” I read on her Facebook page that she’s got a lot going on in her life right now, so I’m sending good vibes her way! 🙂
And here we have Tasha J making tacos out of the cicadas!! Meaty. 😉 And I’m dying to find out how those turned out.
So is my son! He’s been on me non stop with the when’s. This week is as nuts as last week though and I wanna nail it. It’s not like it’s something I’ve done before. This requires finesse. I actually just saw a taco truck in Indiana made them as well and they put some other meat in w/it and now I’m wondering if I should add some smoked pork or something. Omg and this https://www.facebook.com/1067652123248710/posts/6243577402322797/
How cool for dessert?! This I would eat. Lol
I’m interested in hearing how they turn out Tasha! I didn’t know about the food truck here making them! There’s plenty of those bugs to go around that’s for sure!
Alright, I’m gonna try to shoot for Friday! I saw it too late in order to properly plan to make the trip, which I totally would have rather done as opposed to cooking on my own. I mean, I liked making an adventure out of it, but I would’ve left it to the pros just as well. It was in Bloomington and I guess there was a whole event as well, where I’d only seen the taco truck. Maybe future events? 🤞https://www.heraldtimesonline.com/story/news/local/2021/06/14/cicada-mania-event-saturday-draws-crowd-taste-cicadas-sinkhole/7683766002/?fbclid=IwAR0gCi1dbr6Z68HyqDtpMSEHd_4OrRtsPKRJ6z_xEybBMF5GjNngSFLSQRs
I would definitely take a bite… I’m always up to try something at least once (er… food wise. Not sure if I’ll be skydiving anytime soon). 😉
Those DO look yummy. There are no actual cicadas in them are there?
I finished reading Pack up the Moon by Kristan Higgins after reading your recommendations last week. I just wanted to let you know this book tore out every one of my heartstrings. I was sobbing at one am last night, trying to be quiet so I didn’t wake up my husband. Soooo good.
YAY!!!!! I love when a book affects us that hard. Thank you so much for letting us know. 😀
Love your three things, Maryse. Sounds like you had a lovely weekend. An alligator wandering into a shop, though? Weird!! And a bit scary!
Mony it’s great that some things are opening up in your area. Here too. We had a lockdown after a recent scare (I had to teach online for a week again 🙁 ) but now everything is starting to open up, cafes and markets and stuff.
Thank you Jan! Yes it was a great weekend, and the aquifer is what stole my breath away.
And we made so many jokes that night about what that gator was doing in the post office. Like what possessed him to just… walk on in like that? Drug sniffing gator? Maybe he wanted to be in the air conditioning for a bit. Maybe escaping a mean bully gator and hiding out? Or hiding out from his wife-gator?
Tee hee!
Maryse, your 3 things just get more and more interesting every week. It’s like reading an adventure every Monday. So fun!
Also, I knew horses were territorial bc when I was a teen, on a family vaca, we were going horseback riding. And we’d brought my cousin with us. So, when they get everyone set up with their horses they do it 1 by 1 and your horse moves to wait while they help get the rest of the folks on. My horse was by the food bin and my cousin’s was clear on the other side of the fenced in area before we took off and I just knew what was coming next. He (the horse) got this look, stared mine down for eating the goods and he was coming to put him in his place. He was on a mission. And as he charged over, mine dodged too late as his went to bite mine, got my thigh instead and mine reared up and threw me off into a pile of 💩. Knocked the wind outta me for a long time, my lower back was injured, but nothing major and my entire thigh had swollen and bruised for a long while after. I developed a cyst that I had to get removed with plastic surgery many months later and have a scar on my leg where they had to remove some of the muscle. They even found grain from his teeth in there. I’ve ridden since, but now have anxiety with it and don’t get as much joy out of it.
LOL Tasha!! I’m really trying to be outside more and enjoy life and experience new things, and just connect with nature and things that bring me peace, or excitement.
So far, I’m totally having fun. I wonder what my next weekend will be like…
AND OMG on your crazy horse story!!!!!! What an ordeal and that you had to continue to deal with the damage from it for so long.
I’m not much of a horse rider, but I do like to pet ’em. I went horse riding once when I was a teen, and it was trotting, and I slid down the side of him sideways (so like literally, I was hanging on to him from his side, my legs trying to stay wrapped around him… it was hilarious!!)
No damage, but it was bareback and I was in shorts so I had severe allergic reaction (hives like crazy).
Me me, I have one! Strict Confidence comes out tomorrow 😀
Also Devil May Care (book three in the modern day pirate romance by Amelia Wilde) comes out tomorrow.
YAY!!!! Yep!! I added the, both to today’s main Tuesday new release list!! 😀 Thank you Skye!
I’m re-reading The Fae Chronicles (Amelia Hutchins) now because I’m not ready to step away from her alpha males just yet, but I’ll be ready to start something new afterwards. I’m thinking The Mixetape by Brittainy Cherry. Anyone read it yet? I absolutely love her writing style! She has the ability to hit those really deep emotions for me.
I love her too. I bet you can’t go wrong with that one at all. Totally my thing!
