<— HAPPY MONDAY & CANADA DAY to my family and friends!!! We’ve got a mini list of new releases, including a trilogy (that one there to the left) that sounds INCREDIBLE and all three books released at the same time!!! YAY US!!!
ALSO!!! The Girl He Used to Know: A NovelĀ (I 5-star LOVED it!! It had an incredible twist!!!) is back on super-bargain today!!!! If you missed the big sale yesterday, it’s been extended, and it’s a MUST READ!! P.S. Here’s my review. š
But first…
THREE THINGS:
1.) An update on Bird Poop Corn. It’s a sad one…š Iām so sad, but I canāt be madā¦ my landscaper/weeder guy came by last week. Did an AWESOME job as usual. But.. a little overzealous in the weeding as he apparently thought that ONE LONE CORN STALK amidst my flower bed didnāt belong.Ā And he plucked it.Ā Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa *thud*Ā *fainted*
Leslie M:Ā Oooooooh nooooooo!!! š±Ā RIP bird poop corn.
Cheryl: Oh nooo. Reminds me of when my Dad was āhelpingā and pulled up a little lemon tree/plant my kids had started from a seed. They still mess with him about it whenever he is āhelpingā in the yard.
2.) I watched THREE amazing movies back-to-back on Saturday while I worked on properly re-organizing blog posts into their proper categories. Green Book, Gran Torino, The Upside. It wasĀ a full day of amazing movies about unconventional friendships and personal growth.Ā LOVE them all!
Green Book is FANTASTIC. Itās no wonder it got so much hype and awards. It was absolute perfection. Probably my favorite movie of all time right now, and had me crying happy tears. The ending brought tears to my eyes… and then very very end had me crying. LOVED it.
Gran Torino:Ā I love how in his last two movies (the other one I just watched by him was “The Mule”Ā – also fantastic!!). Heās always a grumpy old guy suffering his own personal issues but giving people life advice by telling them what to do. And yet, he grows, too.Ā It was so deep. Clint Eastwood is a master with movies and picking the right stories and bringing growth to those that watch. Amazing actor, and an amazing producer and director. He’s officially my favorite.
The Upside: I was so scared this one was going to make me cry (for obvious reasons) but it was wonderful too. Funny, uplifting, and had me beaming by the end. I love that it’s a true story. Warms my heart so much.
3.) My latest 5 STAR review is up!!! Don’t bite me. š The Wives by Tarryn Fisher <— fantastic and twisty!!!!

I’m first?! Cue the glitter cannon! I haven’t been first in ages!
Happy Monday and happy Canada Day, Maryse! And Happy 4-day week for those who get it. Hubs has to work the night shift, but he already works a 4-day week, so I guess that’ll have to be good enough. Oh, and he gets paid double time for working on the 4th! Yippee!
How about a glitter elephant?
He’s PERFECT!!!!! *twirls in the elephant glitter*
Love it! Grey HAS to see this! *makes glitter angels*
This is adorable!
Love this Nay! Do I take it you’re out of your editing cave??!!
I’m out until tomorrow. Then I go into deep inside again for the next week or so.
3 Things:
1) Hubs and I also watched various movies all weekend. We haven’t done that in years. We watched an action movie with Idris Elba and Jeffrey Dean Morgan (hubba hubba) called The Losers and I loved it. And I haven’t heard of Green Book, but you tell me ‘Viggo’ ā¤ļøļø, and I’m there! I LOVED him in Eastern Promises–him doing a Russian accent is something special to hear.
2) Hubs surprised me this weekend by telling me that he wants to go away somewhere for a long weekend for his birthday on the 18th. We’re either going to Atlanta to see a couple of Braves games or we may even go down to Florida. It’s been so long since we’ve been able to go on vacation that I don’t care where we go, so I’m going to let him pick for his b’day. I love baseball, but I’d really love to go to Florida, even though I’m not keen on driving 8 hours for a 4-day weekend. šµ And I’m not sure how well my gimpy leg and sand will get along.
3) Maryse, I’m so sorry for your loss… RIP bird poop corn! š
NAY!!!
Viggo is Italian in this one (a bad ass New Yorker Italian) and OMG he even speaks it so perfectly!!! *swooooooon*
I love him too!
and YAY on the upcoming vacation. I can’t wit to find out where you end up. š
Ooh! I can’t wait to hear Italian Viggo!
Yay for vacations! Iām staring longingly daily at the calendar waiting for mine. Panama City beach. Itās been 6 years since weāve done a beach vacation. I hope the drive doesnāt kill me. 13 hours for us. Weāre stopping halfway in Franklin, TN. I read the downtown area was neat (bookstore, coffee, funky beer for the hubby, food, shops = my kind of fun) and thereās some historical tours that sound cool. And a pool for the kids to wear out for the next stretch.
I’m so sad about bird poop corn! I have bird poop bluebonnets but they’re in the middle of my yard and always get cut!
1. My newsletter went out today and I announced my next official project, Magnolia May, which I’m starting this fall, if not sooner. The heroine is pretty demanding so we’ll see.
2. They’re pouring the patio for our pool today and I just want to sit outside and watch. If the weather cooperates, they’ll plaster Friday and we should be in it next week!
3. I’m reading Heartache and Hope by Jay McLean and it’s freaking me out how much I love it! I’m not a YA fan or a sports romance fan, and I *usually* hate anything set in high school. I have Shawn Mendez cast in my head as Connor and that’s certainly not hurting things. This is the second book in a row I’ve cast him in, all thanks to this video! (https://youtu.be/Pkh8UtuejGw) We’ll just pretend he’s no 20. š£
So jealous of your pool!! My next house I want a pool or to be on the water.
It’s been years in the making, and now that we’re finally getting it, we’re planning to move. But we’ll at least have it this season. Just long enough for me to get spoiled! š
YEARSSS! And now you’re moving! š¤£
Figures right? I’m sure the excitement will wear off and all the reasons we wanted to move in the first place will reappear!
GASP!!! Well at least a pool is a definite attraction to buyers… (or renters for that matter).
As much as I complain about maintaining my pool (and trust me I complain), I spent all of yesterday afternoon in it. Today, I wouldn’t get rid of it if you paid me. I needed to just be. I was having a rough day and I got in a float with music and cocktails and let myself totally veg. It was wonderful…except, I forgot the sunscreen…so I’m a bit red chested today.
ACK! Aloe vera stat! Hope it feels better, though isn’t the pool time worth it? š
Slathered on tons of aloe! It was so worth it! I was just foolish for not sunscreening my paleness better!!
I love floating in my pool. I got a waterproof cover for my Kindle so I can read while I float. However it’s going to be time for me to invest in a Kindle Oasis…
I’m most excited to just have my laptop outside so I can write and then take dips when I get hot. I’m way too fair skinned to be out there in long spurts, even with massive amounts of sunscreen. I’ll build a base tan eventually though.
I keep looking at the Kindle Oasis….
Dropped my Oasis in the tub and still performing perfectly.
SQUEEEEE!!! NEW R PROJECT!!!!!! š
I’m so excited! I’m already talking like my heroine (I’ve even started saying y’all!) and I told Nay this morning I need to acquire a taste for bourbon so I can start drinking like her. Frankie and I are a lot alike, but Maggie and I don’t have as much in common.
Ohhh bourbon….you’re a “Method” writer instead of a “Method” actor…look at you go R!!!
I’ll be a pro by the retreat! You should join me on this adventure!
Send me the training regime….
1. Drink bourbon
2. Report back
Sounds complicated…but I’ll give it my best effort. š
Bourbon is Yuck. Pure Yuck. š
Right? Writing is hard!!! š¤£
I LOVE bourbon (just thinking of making an old-fashioned) and I already say ya’ll. Sign me up!
lol I say ya’ll even if I’ve NEVER lived in the south. My dad’s influence. š
So, what is the playlist for this bourbon drinking heroine?
I don’t have one yet, but I know I’ll be using a several mid to late 80s country songs. Restless Heart’s Bluest Eyes in Texas is my go-to theme song right now. And of course, gotta have Maggie May!
Wake up Maggie, I think I’ve got something to sayyyyy to yooooooou….
One of my favorite songs of all time. I want to name something Maggie May. Like hopefully my next min-pin. š
Robin–I was thinking Restless Heart would be perfect! And, of course, Steve Wariner! š
Enjoy your newsletter and your upcoming book sounds good and funny.
Just wanted to mention that Fantasticland by Mike Bockoven is on sale for $1.99! This is the amusement park horror novel that Tasha loved, and I’ve been waiting for it to go on sale, so *click*!
Omg! YES!! Read it. One of my absolute favorites, ever. You can even pretend to be me and believe itās real. Makes it all the more horrifying. *snort*
OMG!!!!! YAYYYYYYY!! Thank you for the find. I’m one-clicking it now!!
Oh yes…I remember when you read it! *One clicking*
Hii Maryse! Do you have any book recommendations or an already established list for Romeo and Juliet type of romances? I am in the mood for a forbidden love story of two people from two families at feud or similar. š Have a lovely Sunday!
I’m on it as we speak, Jackie!! š
Youāre the best! Thanks a million!
Hi Jackie!!
I have a list for you (and we’re still adding to it). If you have any of your own favorites, let me know and I’ll add those too.

*hug*
Maryse
Long live bird poop corn. š
1. Saving money right now for Disneyworld. My family has the hotel booked for The Floridian so YAY! š And we’ll be there for the food and wine festival in Epcot.
2. So, I’ve been going through a need for legos. lol Dude has tons, and for a while, he was ignoring them, but the last two weeks has gotten back into them. OMG, we’ve been watching the Lego Movie every single Saturday in the morning. He’s on a kick too. So… in my spiral of oooh, legos, I started to look around for more. Being me, I went with holiday ones. He got a lego advent calendar two years ago, then last year didn’t want anything to do with it. This year, he’s looking at them again and excited. (An old one has a snow blower. ALL HAIL VACUUM TYPE PRODUCTS!) So I want to get him one for this Christmas and the snowblower one for me. š It also has a Mrs. Claus, an ice sculpture, and a fireplace! Then, well, it’s going to be Halloween, so I found a ten dollar Halloween set that is a skeleton in a dungeon with an evil…guy? *shrugs* He was excited because it would be his first lego jail. lol https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/toys-games-lego-seasonal-40260-halloween-haunt/32896379?ean=0673419266871
3. I saw a movie too! I did! š Murder Mystery on Netflix. OMG, hilarious. A little Clue-esque with the murder and humor. I absolutely loved it.
OMG, Tessa! That Lego set is SO cute! They make me so nostalgic for when my boys were younger. Every time hubs and I go to Walmart and walk by the toy department, we can see all the various boxes of Lego kits and wish we could still get them for our boys.
Thatās what grand babies are for!! š
OMG, the price of legos is insane. If it weren’t, he’d have the whole castle, pirate, and elf set. Um, plus what he wants. lol
I watched Murder Mystery too and enjoyed it. I donāt thing it was this weekend though. No, I binged quite a bit of The Fosters. I didnāt do a whole lot of anything else really. Dumb laundry. Lol!
I so rarely watch “adult” movies, that it was a real treat, especially since one of my absolute favorite movies is Clue. š Though, eew, LAUNDRY SUCKS! š *realizes she has to do hers*
I loved Disney when my kiddos were little. Funny thing is they all want to go back even though they are all grown now…sniffle. I need to check out that movie…sounds like fun!!
I LOVED Disney shows for SO long. Still do… in fact, I named my dog Pimmie (Pim) after the little sister in “Phil of the Future” (she was a bossy, little snarky thing named “Pim” and I loved her the most)
That’s a super cute reason! My cat Toby is named from a train from Thomas the train and my second cat I named when I was 6 was named Tigger. Not original, but I was watching Winnie the Pooh at the time. lol
Take them! This is the first time going on a huge trip since all the weddings last year. It’s kind of a “for the family, both new and old” thing. The “kids” from when I first went years ago (then, 4 and 7) are now grown adults. lol And they are super excited to go. One of them is even one of the brides. š And the new husbands are all awesome and fit in so well with such a great sense of humor and personalities. It’s gonna be fun!
You never outgrow Disney!!
Tessa, that brings back so many memories. My son was so into Legos when he was little. I had to make him a Bionicle halloween costume one year. We still have all the bins and some of the sets he put together in our play room. We even went to Legoland when the kids were younger. So much fun! We still get him a small set every Christmas.
Happy Monday!! I’ve seen Green Card and I did like it. My daughter on the other hand did not, because she said it was not an accurate account and in RL they were never friends. Ugh.
Three things:
1. I am on summer break and already feeling refreshed. Now if I could get my lazy butt outside for a run!!
2. My daughter was in NYC for the Pride Parade yesterday. She said it was a great experience and had some great speakers. If you watch the show Pose, several of their stars were there.
3. Don’t have a summer vacation planned, but want to. Both kids don’t want a beach vacation. How can they be related to me??!! š
Whaaa? They don’t want a beach vacation? Hubs and I were just talking a few minutes ago about Atlanta vs. Florida, and although Florida (the beach) would always be our first pick, the short time is a big concern; however, the main concern is that our 3 sons won’t understand how we could go to the beach without them. They’ve been wanting to go for years, but we haven’t been able to (mainly because of all my “stuff”), so I think we’ll probably do Atlanta and plan a week-long Florida family vacation for spring.
That sounds like a great plan Nay. Now if we could figure out what to do for our family vacation!
Gahhhhhh nooooo say it isn’t so, Cheryl. I LOVED them as best friends. It made me feel so happy and warm and fuzzy.
Me too Maryse.
1. I’m so bummed that the poop corn is gone. It made me think back to many years ago when my husband cut down my tomato plants that I had growing on the side of our house. I still to this day think it was intentional since he doesn’t eat tomatoes. He claims he thought they were “weeds.” Sure….
2. I watched Five Feet Apart over the weekend…sobbed of course…but it was quite good.
3. I’m intrigued by the In Moonlight & Memories trilogy up there but dangggg it’s pricey. Also, Where the Dandelions Bloom is calling my historical fiction lover…
Five Feet Apart scares me!!!!!!! My heart already feels like it’s hurting…
My heart definitely hurt Maryse…but it was worth it.
Yeah…. some weeds are beloved, people!!!
My corn was book-world famous!!! š
*sob*
Know what I’m going to do? Imma plant another one next spring exactly in that spot since we KNOW it works. š
Yes, plant another!!!
AND AND!! I’ll get it the CUTEST waterproof bow and tie it around it… presenting it as our beloved corn plant!!!
NOBODY will doubt that it is loved and wanted right where it is. I WISH I had done it this time.
š *sniff sniff*
What a great idea, Maryse! We had one growing in our yard this spring. Also just a random thing. It barely started producing corn and hubs mowed over it. He said the cord would’ve been ‘crap’. But I wanted to see how much it would grow!
Men just don’t “get it”!
Yes Maryse, definitely to the bow!!
There are no exciting 3 thing for me. Just basic day to day over here.
1. New carpet for he basement is getting installed tomorrow. If youāll remember, it flooded recently with the monsoon of 2019. Itās currently ripped a quarter way through with like an indoor/outdoor yucky green (and this room was painted in OSU theme. And they adhered it with some kind of sticker black foam stuff so thatās getting tracked everywhere. It will be grey and soft which is nice.
2. Hmmmm…..I bought these micro greens at the farmers market this weekend that look like clover, kind of? Like a ton of tiny little weeds like that, but theyāre broccoli. Or sunflower (tastes like carrots) or radish and a couple others. Broccoli was unanimous so thatās what I got. Theyāre neat. Lol
3. Iām SOOOOO excited for Stranger Things 3 premiere Thursday!
I LOVE MICRO GREENS!!!!! I grow them in a glass jar laying on it’s side (a sprouting jar) and I add them to EVERYTHING. My sammiches, my soups, in my salads. LOVE LOVE!!!
Youāre such an awesome green thumb! Iād never heard of them, but Iāve been using them a ton. On my wraps, in my eggs and what not. Iām loving them so far!
Oh! Not sure if you posted it, but Sloanās Howell has a new release called Savage Beast. It sounded intriguing so Iām trying it. I still havenāt decided from my last lineup. I was eyeing Parental Guidance by Avery Flynn today too.
If you read Parental Guidance, please report back. I’ve been eyeballing that one myself…
Sounds good. I was reading the synopsis thinking here we go, hockey star gets in trouble, pr girl hookup or fake gf, the usual, but no! Parents set em up on an app? Lol, different take.
I know – sounds like a little different take…
Three things:
1.) I’m almost finished with newest in Crossbreed series. Hands down the best in that series. Don’t want it to end.
2.) I may be floating in my pool soon too. Don’t have a Kindle Oasis, so I use Bluetooth headphones & listen to an audiobook.
3.) RIP little bird poop corn. Was following your journey. So sad.
All you ladies living the dream on your floats or siting by your pools reading on your kindles….whoās hosting the pool party?!? Cookout! And weāll need a projector screen so we can stream Stranger Things after dinner and watch fireworks and eat sāmores.
That sounds like the MOST FUN EVER, Tasha!!!
My husband drags one of our big TV’s out there every so often…usually when there is a sport on he wants to watch….lol. Not the same as a projector screen tho… Would be so fun!!
Thank you ALL for the sweet birdpoop-corn support. I was soooooo shocked and upset when I glanced over my property pleased and what a wonderful job he did again…
And then panicked… glanced at my “Corn” spot and it was empty. I WAS ALL OHHHHH NOOOOOOOOOO!!!
Even my neighbors would stop and inspect my corn. It was like our mascot.
*sigh*
But I appreciate that we were all in his surprise sweet short life together.
Good afternoon!! I was crazy busy this a.m. with back to back appointments and I missed the morning glitter.
Three things:
1) I convinced hubs to try the show A Million Little Things and we binged watched all weekend!!
2) Wicked excited about Robin’s new book Magnolia May.
3) I GOT AN INSTANT POT!!!! SO FREAKING EXCITED!!! I just did the water test and now I’m ready to cook something. HELP!!! Recipes needed!!! (Anything but seafood)
YESSSSSSSSS INSTANT POT IS THE BEST!! I use mine ALL the time.
And very cool when you can binge-watch with a buddy. š
I’m so excited!!! Been wanting one forever and finally bought one today. I think I want to do some sort of chicken breast…
LOVE A Million Little Things…I actually got my hubby to watch that one too. Woo Hoo on your Instant Pot!!! You’ll love it…I use mine but not nearly as much as my air fryer…it gets used constantly!!
Maryse, have you ever done a non-fiction inspirational/self-help type list? I’ve been asked a few times for recommendations but that is not my area of expertise at all. Anything from motivational like Eat, Pray, Love to self-help like Rachel Hollis. Or if anyone has any recommendations I can share, I’m all ears!
I don’t have a list yet, but I’ve actually reviewed a couple on the blog.
I’d LOVE to build a list!! I listen to that stuff all the time (yes… I said listen. I can’t read self-help… I can only audiobook it. Craziest thing since I can only READ fiction and not listen to it).
š
I made artichoke chicken piccata for the 1st time today. Piccata anything, really and it was DIVINE!! *pats back* Salty, tangy yumminess. Was he!! on my canker sore though.
My favorite!!!!! Seriously. I ADORE chicken piccata and can’t get enough of it!
Is anyone else watching Big Little Lies this season?? Iām loving Renata and Meryl! I know sheās awful (Meryl) but the character is so good I canāt not feel for her. And Renata is such a snot, but she makes me laugh too. Really liking the direction and that itās new to me. I loved season 1 so much, even having adored the book (cuz ya donāt always get that, ya know?), but this keeps me super intrigued because itās fresh. And I missed the Monterey 5!
Dang, I forgot it was on. I have to catch up!!
I’m watching. LOVE it! Meryl is hilarious–such a pain in the keister! I also love Renata. And Madeline too. Reese Witherspoon is really good at playing an ignorantly snooty (and snotty) woman. I still need to watch the one that just aired.
