BOOK HOARDING! Tee hee!! Yes. I am so guilty of this myself. I love that we can struggle with the same “book collecting” needs, the squirreling over awesome reviews and blurb jolts, click to our hearts content and feel guilty about it together. Although Nay doesn’t seem to feel so guilty about it. π *snort*
Tasha J started us off saying…
Tasha J: My new hobby as of late seems to be searching for books, reading synopsisβ and reviews, adding to tbr and collecting as opposed to readingβ¦.then I will read a book or 2 and go back to this. How do I control myself??
Nay: TashaβIβm so great at collecting too. I LOVE to do it! On some days I love it more than reading.
I search for a book that I know is really angsty, then I scroll down the page to the reviews and looks for peopleβs βangstβ shelves and I search them. Then I search Listopia lists.I do it for whatever trope I happen to be in the mood for, but Iβm so sad when I get to someoneβs shelf thatβs titled something like βangstiest books in the universeβ and their GR profile is set to βprivateβ
Tasha J:Β Yes, I seem to enjoy it too. The problem is, I feel like Iβm guiltily wasting time reading about books as opposed to reading the actual books I have. Lol!
I have SO many books that I’ve one-clicked or added to my TBR list and thought to myself OH YES!! I am reading this one soon… and then I continue collecting and TBR-ing, and forget the ones I was so desperate to read as they get pushed down to the bottom.
bev: Iβve always loved book lists and even during this slump I buy more than I read. Though I think, thankfully, Iβm getting a bit burned out on that.
Though I do enjoy going through pre orders at the end of each year. Like the last week of December posts will come up of the most anticipated books in all the genres and I like to sit with my coffee and window shop, lol .
Can you relate?
P.S. For the fun of it, here all of my various TBR lists I’ve made over the years (the ones that I published, anyway). And yes… I need to make an updated one. I can’t believe I don’t have a new TBR list. Those are my favorite to do, and make me feel organized.
GASP!! No wonder I’m all over the place.
I’ve actually read a lot of the books on these lists over time (that I should cross out), but still need read a bunch more. And the books just keep coming (and so will my TBR lists). π Yep! That’s what I’m going to do this week. Create an updated TBR list. π BOOK PROJECT!!

Lol! I canβt believe you made a post about us horders! Glad Iβm not alone. π Iβm guilty of this already, as Iβve just finished a book and have been window shopping already. *sigh*
Seriously, Iβll finish one and then think βok, now I want to read this one, this one, or this one.β *opens book, reads a few pages* *scrolls GR, Instagram, blog posts/comments, author recommendations, new releases* Thinks, βhmm maybe Iβm in the mood for this one, oh WHY doesnβt this come out for 7 more months, I want it NOWβ *adds to TBR or One-clicks* *proceeds back to books I was trying to read and No. Not in the mood for that anymore, what ELSE is everyone buzzing about??* REPEAT. Itβs a viscous love/hate cycle. π
Tasha, you’ve just described my exact process to a T!!!!!
Ha ha. I feel you, Tasha. Sometimes I just couldn’t be bothered starting a new book so I play around looking at author websites, seeing what’s coming up, checking out GR friends fav bookshelves, reading reviews, downloading samples. It’s fun.
But other times I have a cleanup spree and go through my kindle deleting samples I downloaded AGES AGO and never tried. You know that moment when you look at a kindle sample and ask yourself, what the HECK was I thinking downloading a sample of THAT??????
I’m not a book hoarder. If I borrow it, I gotta at least try to read it. If I buy it, same. I don’t have a very big collection of TBRs. What I DO HAVE is a big list of DNFs… that I swear I’ll get to someday. Zombie Apocalypse maybe?
I’m just always searching for 5 star reads, and I just need to settle for 3-4 stars being okay.
And I’m too picky. I notice editing errors, and hate certain writing styles or use of words or phrases. They distract me from the story. And I don’t need everything plus the kitchen sink in a book! Keep it simple. Unless it’s Fantasy or PNR, then give me world building!!! And characters!!! Otherwise, just get on with the damn story already.
I download WAY TOO MANY samples. Ugh. It’s a problem. You guys mention a book, I download the sample. Months later, I have no clue why I did.
I have 187 books on my kindle and over 300 on my Amazon wish list. Every Monday, Tuesday and Friday I am either buying or adding to my wish list, which, once or twice a week, I change the order to βprice low to highβ and download anything that has had a price drop to 1.99 or less.
Itβs a sickness, I know
Kind of a fun sickness, tho, right? π
Sandi – ooh, I’ve never tried sorting by price! I’m a totally random shopper. I look at Recommendations for me, and you’re mentions. Random.
Your. Gah! I swear I’m literate.
It is a fun sickness!!
SAME. I’ve got over 1300 books on my kindle alone I’ve bought and haven’t read yet. Where do we get help??!!!! I average about 120-150 books a year so it’s going to take me a decade to get through them let alone the books I’ll buy along the way lol.
Sandi – oh my goodness! I have have SO many books in my amazon wishlist and I NEVER thought to do βprice low to highβ! I always just scroll through them to see if theyβve lowered in price. Youβve just changed my life.
I am so with everyone in the looking at other peopleβs lists. Or buying books and saying βthis looks amazingβ and then I forget about it completely and it goes unread. Thankfully I go back sometimes and say, βoh yeah! Iβm going to read this one.β
What I do is βbuyβ all of the free books that sound like I will read them one day. I have so many free books from amazon itβs insane. But there are a lot of βfirst in a seriesβ books in there. Or Iβve read the book off of kindle unlimited and I say βthat was good, Iβll get it for free.β Itβs also a great way to discover βnew to meβ authors. I have a problem.
Oh! AND I have so many books in my Audible wishlist! I keep looking at some books and saying to them (*while pointing my finger at it*) βGo in the Romance Package.β Sometimes they listen.
See, Kindle Unlimited makes me really misbehave in this area. I have currently have 1722 unread books, though I am happy to say about 1500 were free. (that counts for something, right?) But, I’ll look at that 1722, and want a specific type, and suddenly I’m getting a new one from KU rather than something I paid actual money for.
I just spent 2 hours yesterday looking at tons of GR shelves (including Tasha’s and Michele Gs!) for thrillers. Since I’m on my audiobook kick, those are my fave to listen to.
And OMG–I just went and looked at Amazon, and I now have 5,993 on my kindle and my cloud. Eep! And that doesn’t count the over 2,000 that are on my GR tbr that I haven’t purchased yet.
BUT, like Tessa, many of mine were free (probably about 4-5,000 of them), and many of the 2,000 on my GR tbr are free with KU.
I truly have a disease!
Ashley, glad I could help. I forgot about my audible books.
Ha ha ha. You guys are out of control! I though I was bad, but my list is minuscule compared with some of you.
My name is Nay, and I’m a Book-a-holic.
NAY! You need a support group. And a sponsor. Step away from the freebies! It’s ok. You can do it.
That number would freak me the heck out. I couldn’t even begin to tackle my next read if I had that many on my device. How do you decide? Random? System?
Since I have very similar taste in reading, I secretly want to look at your Kindle!!!
Hmmmm. I thought I was the only one. Glad to know I’m not π
