Fun book-ish question that just popped into my head a few days ago, so I brought this one to our crew on my Maryse’s Book Blog Facebook page, and now I bring it to you!
What funny expression or word do you use regularly, that you actually first heard in a book?
For example: I’m always saying “Gah!!!” now, when expressing my gasp-worthy shock or silly turmoil. I first heard it from Sherrilyn Kenyon (I found it adorable when her heroine said it), and I could swear it was from her book “Born of Night“. <— P.S. Here’s my review of Born of Night and I think she was exclaiming GAH!! ’cause the bad-ass hero was trying to cover up his dimples. 😉
Rae: another favourite of mine Maryse. Loved that series so much.
Maryse: I had a RAGING CRUSH on Nykyrian. THOSE DIMPLES!!!!!
Oh and then there’s Karina Halle’s “douche canoe” <— 😂
Niki: Lol!!! Yes- “douche canoe”from Karina Halle’s EIT series! 😂
How about you?
Sheri: Yellow bellied sapsucker. I read it in one of William Shakespeare’s plays when I was in high school. 😆
Maryse: LOL!! That’s an awesome one!
Rae: tell me more. What play was that from 😀
Robin: I called my poodle Principessa forever after reading Sempre, but then it turned into Princess Pizza and now she’s just back to Poodle Strudel. 😂
Maryse: I LOVE IT!!!!!
Brenda: If they don’t learn about welding at home, they’ll learn about it on the streets. Substitute welding with other things.
Jamie: “Crap on toast” from Kim Harrison’s Hallows series.
Caitriona: End of (from This Man)
Marissa: Saying someone had a “wild hair” in place of saying they had a crazy idea and calling things “wonky”. Both from Kristen Ashley’s earlier books.
Kristy: “natch” JR Ward
Acacia: Twat waffle, I do believe I got from Karina Halle as well lol
Maryse: YES!!! LOL!!!! That Dex certainly has some expressions. 😉
Christine: The answer to everything is 42 (sidenote from Maryse —> The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy)
Nicole: G.A.Aiken Dragonkin series. Battle-f*ck. Makes me laugh every time 😂
