Evidence of the Affair
SHORT (but great) STORY ALERT!! I was surprised (and totally into) the character “POV” with this one. By that title alone, you know you’re going into a grittier look at relationships. While it’s not a romance, it IS a love story, albeit… possibly the end of one.
Loaded in feelings and angst (and angry moments), but of course, when it comes to this author, you know that’s exactly what you’re going to get.
It is funny the crazy things our brains make up to save us from the truth.
Sure, it’s short, but it’s well developed and realistically explores all sorts of personal pain and introspection. It will keep you reading, desperate to find out what happens, and it did throw quite a surprise our way!!
Tasha: …I’m almost done with Evidence of the Affair and I’m shocked! There’s 1 little snippet that had me gasp and I didn’t see it coming.
Cheryl: I just finished it and it was… interesting. Kept waiting for a twist. …Tasha, I did a double take too. Just one of those where a bomb is thrown out casually.
Jenn: Evidence of the Affair can make me feel so much in such a short amount of time because I could relate to Carrie’s struggle and yes I gasped and actually had to go back and read it again because I questioned myself on whether I read it correctly!
I KNOW RIGHT!??? ME TOO!!! I was all… Waitwait!! What??!
So what’s it about?
A wife discovers her husband’s infidelity by finding the love notes his “other woman” is sending him. Shocked and reeling…
…he’s the same Ken I’ve always known and loved and still eats a turkey sandwich every day. It’s just that he’s capable of things I never knew.
…instead of confronting him, she patiently awaits each new letter he’s hidden, gathering more information for herself.
Days later, I still hear it reverberating in my head over and over and over. I have never felt so alone. Alone in the world and alone in my marriage. Alone in love, really.
Then she writes to the woman’s husband and tells him, and the whole story unfolds through the perspective and developing friendship and alliance of the spouses that are being cheated on.
Thank you for being there for me. I know you only as handwriting on a page, and yet you might be my closest friend.
It’s a quick, emotional & surprising story but… pure Taylor Jenkins Reid. Now I wish for a part 2. 😉 *fingers crossed*
She’s one of my absolute favorites (always so poignant, yet raw in her storytelling), and we journey with her through the harder parts of love. An HEA is not guaranteed, but becoming fully immersed and feeling the heartache (or elation) always is!
4 stars!
