Reader Question… Solved! The book about the heroine that ends up at an unsafe BDSM club…

Hello Maryse,

I’ve only found your blog a few days ago but I’m loving it already.

I saw you help people with books they had been looking for and I hope you can help me as well. There’s this book I’ve been looking for, I don’t know the author or title, it might be part of a series.

It’s a romance/erotic book involving BDSM and I remember some things about the story. Basically there’s this woman who’s into bdsm (she likes to be dominated, rougher sex, she might be a masochist too, never explored these desires though). I think she’s a bit older than your average romance novel character, maybe 40s ( I think she might have kids, that are adults, already grown and living their own life) .

She, IF I remember correctly, had a bad experience with her ex husband, he was abusive perhaps, the relationship wasn’t a good one and she feels miserable about her life and what her life has come to be, so she decides that she will try to find herself one last time by looking to satisfy these hidden “bad” desires, and if that doesn’t work she’ll resign herself to continue living a dull life and she’ll stop hoping for things to change, she’ll stop hoping to be able to find a bit of happiness at last.

As she’s exploring this new desires and she’s inexperienced, she ends up going to what she thought was a bdsm place, something she looked up online, (I think the moment is set near a warehouse, and there’s a parking lot too) but the place was not it, it was not a proper club with rules, dungeon monitors etc, it was a mess of meeting of extreme debauchery with zero safety whatsoever and where it was implied that the woman was there to be assaulted.

She obviously didn’t know, and she ends up up being brutally beaten up against her will, the police gets involved and she is “rescued” and for her this feels like a sign that she shouldn’t have even tried, she just wanted to give herself and her life another chance but it was a mistake, she’s feeling awfully ashamed and hurt.

I remember this scene where she’s hurt, all cut up and bruised, waiting sitting at the police station, and she’s feeling on herself the gazes of the policewomen there, she’s thinking that those women probably think she is a freak, sick woman, and by going willingly to that awful place, she ASKED for what happened to her, she wanted to be assaulted this way, she’s feeling miserable and here there’s this man who is into bdsm, he’s also a member of a real bdsm club, (I think perhaps a police man or perhaps not :/).

He understands what she was trying to do by going to that bad place and I think he tells her that he understands and he gives her a card with her number on it (?), I’m really not sure about this. Anyway sorry for the papyrus but I was trying to give you as many details I remember as possible.

I’ve been searching for this book for AGES. Really hope someone can finally put an end to this search. Looking forward to an possibly an answer and looking forward to exploring the blog more <3

Okay so… I think I read this one wayyyyy back in my early indie days, and I’m thinking this is a book by Cherise Sinclair (2nd or 3rd book? Had a Z in his name? I remember one of the Masters was a police officer by day).

I don’t have too much BDSM reading experience, but this one sounds like one I reviewed but I can’t pinpoint which one (I was on a  D/s kick back then, and devoured a bunch in a row). And now I’m dying to know, too!!

Anyone know it? If not, let’s make a list of guesses (and in turn, a mini-genre list). 😀

Millie: I think it’s “This Is Who I Am (Masters of the Shadowlands Book 7)” by Cherise Sinclair ! Book 7 from the Masters of Shadowland series !

Tracey: Ooohhhh I know this one It is by Joey Hill part of her Knights of the Boardroom series and it’s ‘Afterlife: A Knights of the Boardroom Novel (Knight’s of the Board Room Series Book 4)’. It’s been a while but such a good series.
