Back in the early to mid 2000’s I read a contemporary suspense romance story. I can’t remember if it was a novel on its own or if it was part of a romance short story anthology, but the premise is:
…one night a commotion starts in a hospital as this badass female vigilante crime fighter is doing battle with a bad guy.
A hospital doctor gets involved trying to help her. At one point they do a stakeout together I think, there’s a gap in my memory as to what bad guys they’re fighting. I think eventually she is tasked to protect the doctor from the bad guys. There’s something about her making him hide behind a couch I think.
She shares her history at one point I think she mentions she was abused as a kid so it was a goal of hers to eventually be a foster or maybe the doctor wanted to help kids.
Eventually they fall in love and the ending is they start fostering kids.
The young boy is asking them about when he is supposed to leave and what is going on with his mom and when would he go back to her. The female heroine tells him that his mom is working hard to get him back and asks him if he wants to change families while he’s waiting to go back to his mom and the young boy responds no he likes living with them.
He tries to put his plate in the sink and accidentally breaks the plate and he looks scared like they’re going to yell at him but they don’t. The doctor tells everyone to stay where they are and he carries them out safely and they live happily ever after.
It is an erotic contemporary romance that has suspense, comedy, action and of course steamy sex.
