Kristen is looking for this book. This one sparks my memory big time. I feel like I’ve read it for sure. It also brings two books to mind (but I know they’re not “it” because neither had auctions).
One book by Kristen Ashley (I’m forgetting which one?? Gah!) and one by Colleen Hoover (Too Late)… maybe it’s because the heroines in question were in trouble with their criminal boyfriends, and the undercover guys were working to pull them out of it.
But I HAVE read this one, with the auctions and the undercover cop… GAH!! I want to know so bad!!
She asks:

it was a book about a guy who helped girls who were being trafficked, I think because someone close to him had been taken and he was trying to make amends. There were auctions involved and he was undercover and buying people to free maybe?
His girlfriend disappears somehow and he’s trying to find her? There’s a twist I can’t give away.
Man! I wish I could remember what it was called.

Kristen: Can I answer my own question?? One deep dive into my kindle and I’m pretty sure I found it: Tight by Alessandra Torre. Not a surprising option at all. I’ve read almost everything she’s written. If you haven’t read Tight, you totally should! PS. I’ve been a follower forever….I’m pretty sure I found it here. There may be a blog post to tag!
Karen: That was a very disturbing book. Well written, but I still shudder when I think about it and I read it many years ago.
Kristen: I still can’t believe I forgot this one! I used to reference it all the time for books that blew my mind!
May be time for a re-read, but I do remember the twists…hmmm. Off to make sure I have in fact read everything on her list just in case!

Did you mean “Tight”? That’s the one that Shea guessed. And the one I read and was remembering from your description…

I’m trying to find a very similar story.. he’s undercover and to get his mentor to trust him more, he buys the first girl.. she’s kidnapped but was not supposed to be the one taken.. she’s left naked in the house and is not allowed to leave.. he has to act as the monster.. the boss/mentor tries to force himself on her but also wanting to sense how the guy will react..
