This was maybe 5 years ago, the author posted something about the new book she was writing was different from her usual type of stories.
She went on to give the first chapter about off-duty or ex-cop and a kid walking home in the early morning from a party, the cop mistakes the boy reaching for his cell phone is a gun and shoots him.
Anyone have a guess?
