I just “discovered” a book that was recently released, is the series finale, and has 80 five-star reviews. ONLY 5 star reviews!!! I think it’s safe to say, readers LOVED how this series ended. So I did a bit of research on the blog and realized… OMG! Our very own Amy introduced it to us a while ago! Here’s a series that had Amy going crazy (in good and bad ways) and she gave us a mini review in the comments!
Amy: Sorry in advance if this gets lengthy (and if I’ve gushed about it before), but I have to throw in my two cents about the Dark Secrets series by A.M. Hudson. The short version – in case y’all don’t feel like reading my rambling – it’s about vampires, the books are all a good length, it follows Ara from late high school into adulthood, and the books get better writing-wise as the series goes on. Yes, some things are eyeroll-worthy in it, but everything else about the story makes up for it. Definitely worth the money.
Okay, longer version: Holy crap, this series has had me all over the place. I read it when the first book was actually two separate books, and to be honest I’m surprised I stuck with it after the first book because Ara was an annoying little twit with her arm crossing and temper tantrums and just overall childish behavior. BUT, she does grow up and mature as the series goes on. There is a scene though (I *think* it would be in the new combined first book) that was so awful that I had to take a break at one point. And it’s a lengthy scene that just wouldn’t seem to end. *shudder*
What has made them stick with me and has kept me hooked is how I have gone from loving to hating and back to loving the characters! Ara irritated me but then started maturing so I liked her, *then* she did something SO STUPID in book 3 and I couldn’t stand her to the point where I almost didn’t continue the series. And now I like her again! Then David is horrible, and I don’t think I have *ever* despised a character to the extent I did after loving him so much. Despised!!! Like, want-to-throw-some-acid-on-the-mothereffers-junk despised. And now he’s back in my good graces which I never thought would be possible. Oh! And then there is this other character (won’t say which one) who I absolutely HATED beyond all hate but who now the author has made me love. How the heck does she do all that?!?
*deep breath* And that concludes my out-of-control rambling.
