<— Who’s in the mood for a tear-your-heart-out, OMG-NO-FREAKING-WAY, love story? ‘Cause I think this is one of those! In fact, my book-crew here (at least Β few of ’em) are *squeeing* BIG TIME over the release of this latest book (that one over there to the left), and it seems it’s ’cause one of ’em in the big “Ferro” series, threw ’em all for a loop. Something they didn’t see coming.
BUT!!! They are saying this “part” of that big series can be read as a standalone!
Tessa: “This last one is a βstandaloneβ which I can totally see. I just think if youβve read the other books, the impact is going to hurt big time. I fell in love with that couple, then to read that synopsis. *sniffles*”
Jean:Β the Trystan story was a whole separate series and I loved it! Been waiting for the follow up for over a year I think! …Β the Trystan Scott series I kinda consider standalone, especially the first 5 books since heβs not even involved with the Ferros at that point.
Tessa:Β The Trystan Scotts series can be read outside of the Ferro familyβs series. His first five (Itβs basically the whole first story) are bundled… After that, you can go straight to the newest…
Maybe not so much of an HEA, that they were expecting? Maybe now there is one?
Yep!!! I’m hearing it’s angsty as all get-out! And while I DO haveΒ the “reading order” of the entire series (and all of the spin-offs), I know it seems daunting, asΒ it gets pretty convoluted. I’m afraid to read too much into the blurbs and descriptions ’cause you know me and spoilers. I need to NOT know. I’m good with knowing it’s gonna hurt though. THAT gets me every time!!!
BUT!! Some say you can read THIS “spin-off” on it’s own without worrying too much about the rest of the “rest”. π Okay so here’s the whole conversation that sparked MY interest in this angsty sounding heartbreaker! Beware… we are told a bit more than I usually like knowing BUT what we are told made me want to read it more… π
Tessa:Β Broken Promisesβ¦ Yes. I and a lot of other people have been waiting for Trystanβs story. Iβm wishlisting until after Christmas, because itβs going to TEAR MY HEART OUT! Yes, yelling. The first part, The Secret Life of Tristan Scott totally made me fall in love. This one is going to hurt.
Amy:Β *perks up* Tear your heart out?? I gotta look and see if I have any of the Tristan Scott booksβ¦
Tessa: Amy, I have to give warning. The first of the Trystan Scott books are in HS, and itβs from the girlβs POV and being his friend and falling in love. This one is ten years laterβ¦. and STUFF HAPPENED! Thatβs why Iβm scared of this one. A standalone, though. I justβ¦ I read that first series and fell utterly in love with the couple. Iβm worried about a Danika and Trystan (weird coincidence) heartbreak.
Amy: *snort* And I WANT a T&D heartbreak, Tessa.Β
Β Actually, all of what you described sounds perfect to me! Unless the H cheats on her and she takes him back all doe-eyed. *cringes* Is that what youβre trying to warn me about? Or am I asking a totally spoilery question?
Tessa: What happened? I have NO IDEA. Thatβs why I want to read it. Here I am in happy HEA land and BOOM! I read a Ferro book and they are not together and heβs all depressed and I donβt know what! Then, read the synopsis and and andβ¦ WTF happened?
Jean:Β Tessa, been waiting like you forever for Broken Promises!!!! Love Trystanβ¦.my heart was on the floor! And then we had to wait all this timeβ¦.ugh! Amy, I think you will love!
Ela: I wish I could be as excited as you Jean but that author lost me with The Arrangement having 21 installments (1st one being free). I was so excited for these serials too but then got to 8 and found she was planning on writing MANY more, if this were one giant book it would cost … AND thatβs what REALLY bothered me AND it looks like more to come??? Iβm sorry but that is just not right IMOβ¦ Ok, Rant Overβ¦.Carry ON
Tessa: …The Trystan Scott series, though, arenβt as many books. This last one is a βstandaloneβ which I can totally see. I just think if youβve read the other books, the impact is going to hurt big time. I fell in love with that couple, then to read that synopsis. *sniffles*
Jean: Oh Ela. I totally agree with you on the Arrangement series. I was getting so mad with the cliffhangersβ¦.stopped around book 17 and refused to go back to it! Especially with the prices of them! But the Trystan story was a whole separate series and I loved it! Been waiting for the follow up for over a year I think!…Β the Trystan Scott series I kinda consider standalone, especially the first 5 books since heβs not even involved with the Ferros at that point.
Amy:Β at what book could I stop and then start the TS series to get the full impact? I just remember with T&D that they were introduced briefly in book 3 (if I remember correctly) but that one scene and the palpable heartache between them was enough to make me want to jump into their story.
About book #1:
When Mari accidentally overhears that Trystan is in love, she can’t believe it. He’s pining over some girl that doesn’t know he’s alive. The confident swagger and endless stream of girls is a facade. It conceals his loneliness and hides how messed up he’s really become trying to flee from a life that’s battered him to his core.
Trystan tries to figure out how to make it clear how much he loves Mari, but every insincere kiss and every broken promise haunts him because she knows them all. Now, Trystan has to prove to the one girl he’s actually fallen in love with that she’s not just another conquest.
Mari has no idea who Trystan loves, but she can tell that whoever it is has captured his heart entirely. Soon Mari sees the man behind the mask, the guy that Trystan tries so hard to hide. Everything about him is appealing, and too hard to resist.
In a moment of desperation, Trystan uploads a love song he wrote for Mari, but before he can show it to her, the video goes viral. Everyone wants to know who he is, and the only thing shielding him is an anonymous account name and some thick shadows hiding his face. Trystan realizes that the consequences of revealing his identity will be disastrous. Everything he’s tried so hard to hide will be exposed. It’s a secret that is impossible to keep and the only girl who he wanted to hear it will never believe him.
So I don’t have to read the 5 books before? Just can read Broken Promises as a standalone and will be fine?
I will read and HM Ward book when she actually puts her stories into a BOOK – can’t stomach the 3 dollars a pop for a mini book – it really adds up. Didn’t she have that endless series where you had to keep buying the next installment? The Arrangement, or something? What are they on, number 47? HA! She’s not a bad writer, just don’t like this kind of book marketing AT ALL.
