Here is a series that has many excited. It’s been recommended to me a TON of times, and I’ve been told it has that certain Fifty feel to it. You know… that “arrogant bossy billionaire tycoon” and that one special someone that get’s caught in his web. Well… at least, that’s the impression I have from the recommendations.
I’ve heard all sorts of things about this one, (some had a harder time with “Jesse” saying he’s creepy, scary etc…) and then some of you are really into him! Either way, it appears that “This Man” is a really hard one to deal with. Oh boy… I always seem to have a soft spot for the book-jerks. Tee hee!
I just recently purchased #1 and expect to dig in, soon (especially now that book #2 has just been released).
And look at what many of our fellow readers are saying:
Emily: Have you read “This Man” by Jodi Ellen Malpas? Well I just finished it last night and let me say I LOVED IT! You have to read it. It certainly has that “Fifty Shades” feel to it. Literally I don’t think I looked up from my IPAD once last night while reading it. (or the night before) 🙂 Now that I think about it…I’m not even sure what day it is today! And Jesse??? Ummm….one word….WOW – YIKES that book was that good!
Chrissy: Maryse, you have to read This Man because I want to see your review on it please 🙂 I’ve read it and Jesse crawls under my skin good and bad. I would be like Ava just to be defiant because of his controlling ways. lol
Joanna: I’m a book zombie today over this one. Finished it late last night and still can’t decide whether I liked it or not. Couldn’t stop reading it…
Shanda: I loved it. I told Maryse about it on Sunday. She was going to put it on her TBR list. I am hoping that in book 2 we find out more about why Jesse is Jesse :o)
Jennifer: I just finished it …. The storyline was typical, but I couldn’t stop reading it either! And I was just racing at the last part of the book, only to suddenly read “the end”. What the hell? I didn’t realize there would be a sequel. But I will definitely be reading it ….. Jesse at the end … Wow! 🙂
Claudia: I’m trying but the guy creeps me out..he is really weird..
Twin: I love me an alpha male just like the rest of you but is anyone else having a problem with Jesse from This Man by Jodi Malpas? I am about 90% done with the book and I am so not feeling him. Jessie is more scary than sexy to me. Anyone else getting this vibe?
Erica: keep reading its good!
Kristina: Just finished this & it is so so soooooo good. I’m obsessing over it & turning over theories in my head.
I am just about finished with Book 1! i cant seem to put it down! Looking forward to Book 2. Jesse drives me CRAZY!!!! he’s so sweet and then he’s a little too much but i want them to end up together for some wierd reason! Maybe its because as a girl, you always hope the “bad boy” will change (:
I just finished “Beneath This Man” yesterday. The first words that come to mind are…. Fifty on CrAcK. Mind blowing jealousy, sex and ummmm… mental illness?? Hopefully we will all understand why two people soooo not right for each other work.
So this weekend read both book and dying to read the 3rd. The characters really grew on me and enjoyed the drama of it all, oh and the sex scenes of course!! Enjoy reading them!!!
Love love love This Man! Read book 1 twice and reading Beneath this man again. Cant get enough of Jesse Ward. Yes he’s very possessive and stalkerish but he’s a man who knows what he wants and goes after it. True alpha male. If you like 50 whom i adore you will love this man trilogy. Can’t wait for book 3.
It does really have a certain 50 shades feel to it and it’s pretty predictable, not too many twists and turns in it However, I really loved it. I really don’t know why and I can’t explain it easily. I almost think I loved it more than 50 shades. Jesse is an interesting guy. He’s not any more “protective” or “possessive” than Christian was but there seems to be more under the surface which was scratched at in the second book,. However, this dude owns sex club and frankly that puts him at the top of my “list.” He’s freaking hot. Ava is interesting too a she often defies and challenges Jesse at every turn. I love that about her. She’s a good heroine.
I absolutely love these books. They are a fun and steamy! Can’t get enough of Jesse.
The guy freaked me in book 1. then he got very very very freaky in book 2. He does things border to nuts and i sometimes wanted to punch him in the face. She is sorta…dumb and at some point in book 2 i even thought she had more issues than the poor jesse. However…jesse is hot…old..hot…sexy…older…hot…did i mention HOT…yep…i forgive him for being freaky cuz he is so damn HOT. the book is too long for this story but at the end of book 2 i had a relief moment when i finally got into poor jesse’s brain and understood. i actually felt bad for him:(…all in all it was good
I don’t have a kindle i have a nook…and this series isn’t available on Barnes and Noble kinda upset about it!!!!!!!!
Ava really bugged me how she could be so controlled by Jesse. Jesse was wacked! I couldn’t put the books down because I was hoping for more. They were a bit disturbing. I won’t read #3. There was not enough story in either book. I’m not a prude, but I think all the sex scenes don’t make up for the lack of story. I wanted to see why they love each other, but I couldn’t.
Just finished Beneath This Man….what a roller coaster of a book! One minute I want to punch Jesse in the throat and the next I want to kiss his face. My stomach was in knots for the majority of the 2nd book. Can’t wait for # 3!
I finished book 2 last week. I don’t think I can read the third book. I found Jesse to be a crazed lunatic. I did not like him one bit by the end of the book. He was controlling, obsessive, stalkerish manipulator!
And Ava – weak woman!
I just finished book 2, wow, I was so engrossed I didn’t want it to end, I can’t wait to get book 3!
I cried I laughed I cried again. Jesse and Ava are mad. This is by far the best two books I have ever read. I read the first one and pictured everthing in mind as the story grew. The second book was as breath taking, I couldnt put it down. When can we have the third book?
I loved it so so much 🙂
I am half way done with two and can not put it down. I have become obsessed with finding out how this ends yet I hate for it to end. I hope book three is not far behind.
I didn’t like these two books very much. I think Jesse is to violent and Ava is stupid. At least Ana in Fifty had some back bone and stood up for herself. Ava is weak and it’s so disappointing that it only takes him to count down from 3 for her to do whatever he says. I almost didn’t read book 2 but I was hoping Ava would get stronger within herself. Sorry.
Im sooo in love with these books !!!! cannot wait until the third is released i , does any one know when ???? I think Jesse sounds delicious even with his crazy side !!
I read both book 1&2, twice. The more I read the more l like the books and characters. You got to understand they both didn’t expect it coming and the chemistry between them are just earth shaking at the very first sight. That leads both of them to be bit crazy and couldn’t help. Love does drive people to so strange things or become blind. I like the fact that they both follow their hearts. They both feel it and trying to deal with Jesse’s trouble and shameful past. I definitely will read book 3. I hope it will deliver the deep down verdict: what actually made this man the way he was and get them even closer together. I think I like Ava more than Ana too!
I enjoyed this as much as 50 but not as much as Bared to You. In the end it seems everyone is crazy but that’s why we as readers can’t put the books down because there’s a little crazy in the most sane people. I’m looking forward to book 3 in both books. I lost interest in Fifty Shades since it ended like Christian reversion would be next.
When is book #3 coming out? Really looking forward to it!
Loved these books couldn’t put them down , can’t wait for the 3rd
I fell in love with book 1 and loved book 2 as well. Love ava + jesse & everything they go throw. As soon as I started reading these books I couldn’t put them down. Brilliant story which is brilliantly written. I solo can’t Waite for book 3. Hope it’s released very very soon xx
I have read both books three times. I am anxious for the third book to be released. I found myself laughing out loud several times while reading them. You can just visualize in your mind what is transpiring on paper. Thank you for writing these books; excellent reading!
I have re-read these twice, I really want the third and was disappointed since on my kindle amazon book it says the third one was to be out in January. I am waiting in anticipation.
I liked the first book but LOVED the sequel. The characters can be frustrating at times but I couldn’t stop reading. Jesse is a freaking nutcase! But I couldn’t help but fall in love with him. What is it with the tortured/broken/misunderstood types that I’m so drawn to? And with regards to the Fifty comparison, there are some but he’s more like Fifty on crack.
Oh. And did I mention that he’s British? *swoon*
Totally agree. I love the “bad boy” thing and fell for one of those.
I’ve been trying tobdevide if I want to read this series for a while. I almost purchase it then end up buying something else. Came to this site to help me decide. I’ve got to say, after reading all of these comments I’m still not sure. Hmmm….I guess I’m just gonna have to get it and hope for the best. I kinda like disturbing so sounds like I’ll like thos one. I love this site so much. Maryse, your reviews rock! I feel like we have the same taste in reading material. Except, I haven’t gotten into the paranormal stuff. I went through my first 31 years of life with out reading much and I’ve definitely made up for it in the past year. My husband was worried about my “need to read”. He thought I needed therapy or something 🙂 its nice to know others are just as passionate and get into the books and story lines as I do. There’s nothing better than getting cozy with a good book at night after the husband and son have gone to bed. Escaping isn’t always a bad thing, right? I always tell my husband, “Hey, my addiction could be to something so much worse!”
Ok… So i just finished both books that were recommended by a dear friend. I LOVED THEM!!!! I LOVE JESSE WARD!!!! What man isn’t a little crazy for the woman they love. I mean he was extreme sometimes but who of us isn’t when we’re in love. I hate that I have to wait for the next book to be released. I need more Lord of the Manor!!!! And I need him NOW!!! Dang these fictional Men, they have become very addicting!!! 😉
I don’t like or hate this book, the characters started as interesting but it didn’t go much farther than that…btw how old was Jessie was exactly?
where can I find these books to buy?? can’t find them any where.and can’t down load them from audible they don’t have them???
waiting for this man confessed to be available on amazon.fr it came out in the uk yesterday
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this series!! I read the first 2 a couple weeks ago and read the final one yesterday! Couldn’t put it down until I was done, but I didn’t expect to because I couldn’t put the other 2 down either 😉 The ending was perfect even though I feel like a love story could go on forever!! I have never finished a series and wanted to dive back into and reread it but I guess you can say I was a huge sucker for Jesse & Ava! Btw Gerena Jesse was 37 until he turns 38 on his birthday. I don’t think his birthday is until the 3rd book though. They are all starting to run together 🙂
I thought this book was unbearably awful! I can’t believe all the good reviews. Basic grammatical mistakes, typos, clunky, high school-level writing, a boring storyline, and a creepy male character with “dirty blonde” hair, “smudgy” eyes, and “clammy” hands. Yuck. Nothing sexy, interesting, or appealing about this book at all.
The trilogy of THIS MAN, totally awesome!!!!. Hats off to the author; made my day. Thank you. 🙂
I thought this was the absolute worst book/series I have ever read. I ordered book 2 because I was hoping that something, ANYTHING, would happen. I made it halfway through book 2 and I put it down. There is absolutely no storyline here. Aside from some “chemistry” between Ava and Jesse, there is no reason why they are so in love with each other. You learn nothing about the characters, at least not in a book and a half! There is a perpetual loop in the story. Ava promises she will never leave Jesse, Jesse does something unreasonable and psycho, Ava gets mad and threatens to leave Jesse, Jesse gets mad and “knocks some sense into her”, and replay. I was hoping to find another Bared to You / 50SofG series, and I was so disappointed. Sigh.
ABSOLUTELY LOVVVVVVVVVEEEEEEDDDD this trilogy. THE BEST ever and want moreeeeeeee lol Jodi please write some more about them and dont stop lol. all i can is wowwwwwwww fantastic stuff 🙂
