Just brought to my attention and now HIGHLY recommended by Joanna, and yep!! Another series that looks right up our angsty, tissue-riddled, emotional alley! And book #1 is free right now π This just may be my next read after I’m done the one I’m reading now… (updated: 02/20/2013: OMG YES!! Loved this series!)
Joanna: Okay, mentioned this one earlier, but now I’m into the second book of the series and it’s tearing me apart. Good tearing me apart, in that angsty can’t-hardly-stand-to-read-it-but-can’t-stop way. I about died at the end of the first book, and then about died at the beginning of the second. Damn… The first book is free, and you might really like it if you’re into emotional ups and downs…Β Yeah… Remember, I warned you. This one will RIP OUT YOUR HEART.
Abby: I totally loved this series. Never cried so hard while reading but it was worth it n the end. A must read for everyone!!!
Joanna: Read books 1 & 2 and loved them! I’m going to start 3 soon but I needed a little break π
Jennifer: One of my favorite series of the year so far and maybe ever, it drew so much emotion out of me, like your review said peace and pain! So glad you read and enjoyed it!
About book #1
This is the beginning of an atypical romance.
When artist Nate Wilson falls in love, he falls hard. The problem is, heβs only been in love once, and the girl of his affections is his best friend, Emi Hennigan. In high school, the two bonded over painful breakups, and swore off a relationship to save their friendship. Thirteen years later, Nate has had more than his share of emotionally-unfulfilling, sexual relationships with beautiful women to distract himself from his true romantic feelings.
When a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity takes Nate away from his friend and his comfortable lifestyle, he is forced to reflect on the distinct void that Emiβs absence leaves in his life. To Nateβs surprise, Emi has a similar experience; but as the friends embark upon their journey toward happiness together, destiny reveals other plans for Emi.
- Lost and Found: Book One of the Emi Lost & Found series (check out my review)
- Time Stands Still: Book Two of the Emi Lost & Found series (check out my review – 4.5 stars!!!)
- Never Look Back: Book Three of the Emi Lost & Found series
- Not Today, But Someday (Emi Lost & Found)Β <— prequel (how they first met – was just released in Sept 2012! Author says read this one AFTER the first 3 books only!)
There’s also a prequel out for this series π

Thanks Christina!!
You’re welcome π
This series tore me up!!! But I loved it! Amazon offers all three books together (with the exception of the prequel) and there are a few extras at the end that I don’t believe are included with the 3rd book when you purchase them separately…..And Lori Otto has another series coming out that is a spin off of these…..can’t wait!
This is a really good series!! I was up late at night for 3 days finishing all of these π
Thanks!
So who do I start these books?
Read the Prequel first then the rest??
I’d read the prequel last, since she wrote it only after the first three books. It’s probably more of a look-back and might be more relevant once you’re already connected to the characters.
I put it last on the reading order list above.
I cannot thank you guys enough for talking about my books… but thanks a bunch, anyway!!
And yes, the prequel is best enjoyed at the end. It just occurs before the rest chronologically.
This truly means the world to me, to hear what people think. π You definitely have a new blog follower in me!!
its still 77p on amazon uk but I think I’m going to give this series a go. the cover design is a bit different, I like it!
I think this will be my next read. Always love your recomendations.
I can’t wait to give these a go. Another reader just mentioned how angsty they were.
I love this series. It is so good. Just make sure you have a box of tissues( maybe two boxes) right next to you.
WOW!! I have just come up for breath! I know you have mentioned many books that tear you apart on this blog (eg. The Edge of Never and Taking Chances among many), but none have made me sob like this series. Book 2 is breaking me. My glasses are fogging and I have had to stop reading to calm down enough to continue. Crying so much the words are blurry. More than a box of tissues……..might need a couple of Valium to get this one out of my system π
Oh my goodness. I have NEVER read a series that brought out such an emotional response in me as these books did. I sobbed so hard I thought I might pass out during the second book. I have finished the series now, but any time I think of book 2 my chest constricts. I loved this series. It was so gritty and real. Definitely suggest reading it! π (I am having a hard time deciding what to read after this though! Anyone have any suggestions??)
OK, so I’m with everyone else who read this series. At one point I had to stop reading because I was sobbing so hard and I never have a response like that. At first, I was super angry that it was so sad and actually thought about stopping. BUT, what makes the author so talented is that I HAD to know what the ending would bring. I continued on and I’m so glad that I did. I devoured all 3 books in 1 weekend.
I’m so happy y’all are sticking with it. π And thank you for your kind words- even though I’m sure you had some other choice words for me earlier. π
Lori, I am finding it difficult to read the prologue. I read the 3 book series in three days, but finding it emotionally difficult to read the prologue knowing the outcome in book 2. So, So sad π
Oh, Gigi!! Maybe you should take a little break and come back to it. Even knowing the outcome, I found the prequel to be… sweet. Bittersweet maybe, but still sweet. It gave me more time with Nate… but I don’t think I could have written it right after the rest. It took a year and a half to start that one. I can’t really even imagine the emotional impact of it coming right off the series. Most of my readers before had time to digest things. This whole “devouring it in a weekend” thing is a little foreign to me. π
I’m in book 3 now and having a hard time putting them down, but make sure and have a whole box of tissues at the ready for book two. Really enjoying the series though!! Defintely recommend reading them!
I just finished the first book! For the last 24 hours I have been wrapped up in Nate & Emi and all the events (Nate’s women – haha) that finally lead them to *spoiler*. Only to I read the preview and comments about book 2…..I am not sure I can bring myself to read it, knowing what happens *spoiler*. I don’t think I can deal with it, each time I am ready download book 2, I feel my chest tighten! *SPOILER* Its all too much! Too Much!!
Please avoid spoilers. I was going to read this series, but I think I may know too much now… π
π That’s unfortunate. There’s so much more to the story. I notice you have a spoiler forum for just such a thing!
Thank you Lori! I’m glad to know there is more to it. It certainly seems like a series that I would love, so I will try to *forget* … lol! ;).
π You can do it.
This series tore my heart out…WOW is all I can say, fantastic and tears are still coming and coming even though I finished this series two days ago. Beautiful writing, made you feel every emotion to my core.
I’m with you Jenni…I contemplated for two whole days if I could handle book two suspecting that maybe *spoiler* I finally did it and then cried and cried and cried a whole lot more probably through the whole book, I could relate to Emi so much and I was right there going through all the emotions with her! It was totally worth it and really loved the way the series ended. Emi did get a bit annoying and there were quite a few OMG would you just smarten up moments in the third book for me but in the end…WOW! So glad I bit the bullet and continued but now I am afraid I just can’t get them out of my mind and I want to start a new book, I do but……..
these 3 books are fantastic, an emotional rollercoaster at times, tissues highly recommended, but well worth the read. I loved the fact that each book was written from each of the characters perspectives …
Lori thank you for an outstanding, wonderful read.
Thanks, everyone!
Lori and I have had many discussions on this series …. This series connected me so much to the characters-more than I have EVER been connected to any book! I got caught up in the whirlwind romance and immediadtely fell in love with Nate! It took me a while to start book 2 after finishing the first one. However those that say you can’t go on and finish the series, PLEASE do! I did and am so glad I did! Lori did not let me down! *spoiler* I don’t see how people haven’t heard of these books! As heartbroken as I was and as many tissues as I went through, this series is one of my top 3 reads of the year!
Loved it! This book had my emotions going during all three books. I was sucked in right away, and read all three in an entire day through the night (like I did w/ Fifty Shades) wanting to know what was going to happen next.
It made me cry like no book has ever done, and yes I completely freaked out The Husband and my children (boys of course). But WOW is all can say about this series!
Thanks so much Kelly! And as always, Casey, thanks for encouraging people to finish! π
Maryse-
I’m so glad you bit the bullet and started reading the series even knowing the outcome of the first book. I was made aware before I read it as well, but I tried to put it out of my mind and let myself get caught up anyway. Knowing still didn’t help for me!! I’ve never cried the way I did over book 2 about anything!! I think my eyes were only dry for about 50 pages. My eyes were still swollen when I made myself start book 3. Wouldn’t trade a single tear for the way these books made me feel!
Thank you Lori for this series and Emi, Nate and Jack.
And, thank you Maryse for this site….best thing I’ve ever stumbled upon!
I have never “ugly cried”from reading any of the many books I have read, but this one had me doing just that. Luckily I was away on a business trip in a hotel room all by myself so my hubby couldn’t make fun of me. Loved, loved this series!
I totally loved this series. Never cried so hard while reading but it was worth it n the end. A must read for everyone!!!
Oh yes definitely an ugly cry. But so worth it!
It took me 3 weeks to read the whole series. I have never loved a series so much and want more! I am hoping that the Choisie series is just as good. I never felt so much emotion before reading a book.
