FANTASY ROMANCE SERIES & Tasha LOVES it!
bev: Buy It. Buy It. Buy It. Buy It. Seriously, Buy It. …This was a really good and seriously fun book.
Tasha: I bought this one this year at full price, have read halfway through and itβs a 5 star for sure (I skipped to the end cuz I had no time to keep going and I HAD to know what was gonna happen, lol). I will finish soon. Thereβs another after and I think the third will be coming out.
Jean: Tasha, Iβve had that book since 2016 and still havenβt read it!
Tasha: What?!! Now is the perfect time to jump in then! I guess there are 3 books out and the 4th is out in 2019. The 3rd though is Heleneβs book. Ooh the Commandant is so scary and I think the Masks are totally creepy. The world is cool, the different perspectives from main characters, all the actionβ¦very bada$$!Β
MichelleS:Β Tashaβs review and love for Ember in the Ashes and comparing it to Sarah J Maas had me go to Amazon lickety-split. Imagine my surprise when Amazon tells me I purchase it back in summer of 2016! I donβt remember this book. I hate it when that happens.
Amy: …An Ember In the Ashes? That one was great!
About book #1:
Laia is a slave.Β Elias is a soldier.Β Neither is free.
Under the Martial Empire, defiance is met with death. Those who do not vow their blood and bodies to the Emperor risk the execution of their loved ones and the destruction of all they hold dear.
It is in this brutal world, inspired by ancient Rome, that Laia lives with her grandparents and older brother. The family ekes out an existence in the Empireβs impoverished backstreets. They do not challenge the Empire. Theyβve seen what happens to those who do.
But when Laiaβs brother is arrested for treason, Laia is forced to make a decision. In exchange for help from rebels who promise to rescue her brother, she will risk her life to spy for them from within the Empireβs greatest military academy.
There, Laia meets Elias, the schoolβs finest soldierβand secretly, its most unwilling. Elias wants only to be free of the tyranny heβs being trained to enforce. He and Laia will soon realize that their destinies are intertwinedβand that their choices will change the fate of the Empire itself.
READING ORDER:
Is this considered a YA book? Is it heavy on the romance or more paranormal and light on the romance?
I’d say it is heavier on the fantasy than the romance. If you lime fantasy it is a fun book.
Or if you like limes apparently.
Ok auto correct you win. I give up.
Thanks Bev. Think I will give it a try. The recommendations are always great here. Just read a paranormal witch book and it was more mystery than romance and I enjoyed it. And auto correct will win everytime. :).
Incredible series with fantastic world building, twists and turns. Canβt recommend it enough.
