*tosses glitter* guess who is home for the duration! I’ve missed you all. This past couple of weeks has been rough.
YAY GREY!!!!
We’ve missed you!!!! And your glitter happiness. I’m so glad you’re here. We’ve been getting CHATtier (not cattier -stupid autocorrect) these days since we’re all kind of together right now, so it’s made the seclusion pretty bearable.
Are you reading anything right now? I’ve just started Tessa Bailey’s latest and will be continuing today. 🙂
Grey, I understand. I’m home for the duration too. Do you have to do anything for work? I have to do 2 PD courses/day and check-in with teachers/parents re: any health issues/questions.
Have to say my hands are starting to hurt from all the hand washing I’m doing. Love the cover of Mating theory and am intrigued by the new Tessa Bailey one you’re reading Maryse. Just got Twice in a Blue Moon from the library. Thought I had read it, but I think I just read an excerpt. Hoping it’s lightehearted and funny. Need some joy nowadays.
Wow, Cheryl. That seems like potentially a lot of pressure if people start calling you with their symptoms.
Bev, I’m hoping it doesn’t get to that point.
Supposedly Tessa’s is actually a comedy romance and I get a kick out of her brand of humor. 😛 This is exactly what I needed. Let me know what you think of Blue Moon.
I was thinking about buying Tessa’s new book. Please let me know how you like it.
Maryse- Twice in a blue Moon was just what I needed. Lighthearted, funny, and with a tad of angst.
EXACTLY what I love. Thank you Cheryl!!!!
I had 3 books come in that I completely forgot that I’d pre ordered. I have this habit of after Christmas of window shopping all the anticipated reads of the next year. Except I always start clicking. At the time I think…”Oh, this is months away it will be a nice surprise for myself”. Well it is definitely a surprise when I dont keep track and buy several books on the same day.😂😂
One of them is that All I Ask by Corrine Michael’s up there. No memory of this book at all or why I decided to pre order.
Also Mercy of course and TJ Klune’s The House in the Cerulean Sea.
Oh I need to add TJ Klune’s!! Thank you bev.
I’ve been wanting to read Darling Rose Gold. Currently reading Betwixt by Darynda Jones and just got Someday in Paris by Olivia Lara. I have no down time as of yet. Still waiting for things to run smooth and settle into a new routine. Yesterday was awful, today is better.
I just want desperately to go grab corned beef brisket and cabbage and tiny potatoes but it’s too peopley in grocery stores. I’m scared.
Go late at night or first thing when they open. Or just go in and grab what you need and wash hands well when home.
I planned on going first thing when they opened yesterday and missed that by hours so it was full, but I live in a sma town and my idea of full is probably way different than a more metropolitan area.
You could also try more independent stores if you know where they are in your area. The more organic type places, just not the Whole Foods, lol.
The supermarkets here are opening early in the mornings now from 7-8am only for senior citizens and those with a person in their family with a disability. There is a security guard at the door and they check that you have a seniors or disability card before you can enter. The shelves are restocked overnight so at least they get a decent chance to get toilet paper and stuff. Then at 8am they open up to everybody else and the bunfight starts again LOL. Lots of things you’re only allowed to buy one or two packs of e.g. tissues, rice, pasta.
I live in a regional city about 180km from Melbourne, and unfortunately people from Melbourne are coming to our town and others across country areas raiding our supermarkets and buying up whatever supplies they can. Last weekend, the local electrical goods stores totally sold out of freezers, with some being bought by interlopers from Melbourne apparently 🙁 It’s frustrating. They contribute nothing to our town, but just come and raid our stuff and go away again 🙁
Ugh Jan… that’s how a lot of it seems to be here. I’m hoping the panic dies down some so that we can at least get back to getting normal groceries. If they could come up with a weekly dairy online subscription service, I’d be set.
I don’t remember the days of the milkman, but I’m thinking it’s time for that again. I need my milk and eggs.
I hope they extend some of the # of purchases for those that live out. In Australia dont some people live very very far from any grocery stores? I’m assuming they most stock up monthly anyway.
Or am I getting this from old books and movies?
Oh yeah!! True… even I “imagine” many of them far out from cities with groceries. Good question!!
The vast majority of the population lives within striking distance of supermarkets etc, but there are still quite a few people who live in remote and outback areas who probably buy their groceries in bulk. I hope they are faring well and able to get what they need.
Jan–that has to be SO annoying!
No traditional St Paddy’s Day food here either. Sometimes my Mom makes it and invites us over, but I said she’s only allowed to FaceTime us cuz if anyone gets the virus, it’d be her. 😂 She travels ALL over and though they stopped flying, she’s been everywhere too recently for me.
I’m making dino pasta spaghetti tonight w/squash and zucchini.
I did a roast last night w/the pork loin, potatoes, carrots and pickled veggies again so I have tons of leftovers. I’ve also banned regular clothing to save on laundry time for 3 weeks. If we want more time for fun, we’ve gotta cut corners somewhere.
Tasha–I also want to read Darling Rose Gold. I get it from the library in only 17 weeks! 😂
I’m here to let fans of the “Crown of Shards” Series know that Crush the King was a good, solid conclusion to the series. I really enjoyed it. I gave it 4 stars because there were a few things that I, personally, would have liked to see her handle a little differently (hence no 5 star rating)…but it was still a wonderful book and conclusion.
Now, let’s talk about the cover to Mating Theory…holy cow!!
Grey, so glad to see you here – but sorry to hear it’s been rough for you. {hugs}
I hate to hear that it’s not a 5-star. I got the audio book of the 2nd one from the library, but I got a load of them dumped on me at once, so I had to return it. One day, I’ll finish the series.
For Fan’s of Ruby Dixon’s Ice Planet Barbarians, I have really enjoyed Miranda Bridges’ House of Kaimar Series and the spinoff Hearts of Stone Series. Oh, I just finished Lynsay Sand’s Hunting for a Highlander (Highlander Brides Series), 5 stars. I love her Highlander series.
Oh, one more thing, Binding 13 and Keeping 13 by Chloe Walsh are currently free.
Awesome deal, that you Kathy!!!! 😀
I really feel like at some point in all this we need a big old fashioned buddy read.
So no grocery shopping for me. I just called my Publix and they are out of corned beef brisket anyway which was the main reason I was going. Nice slow cooker home cooked meal on Saturday. *sigh*
I’m in! Self-isolation sucks. Reading books helps a lot. But we had to suspend our book club. * I really miss it.
Going to see my daughter (37 weeks pregnant) to help out (5 hour drive away). Barring all that comes with that, I’m stilling in. 🙂
Anything comes up just let me know!
I’m reading Tessa Bailey’s!!! 😀 But yes… a buddy read would be great. We’re all here.
I got Little Women to watch on prime today. Haven’t got to it yet, cuz- kids. But, I’m excited to watch it. And, reminder- Little Fires Everywhere releases on Hulu tomorrow!!
Do you all remember when we used to prepare for the apocalypse? I think we were even over run with zombies at one point.
Where is Amy? Didnt we decide we’d refuge in a B&N with an attached Starbucks and her husband would fight off the zombies while we read?
I hope all of that old group are doing well and check in.
Been thinking about Nay.
She works in a hospital or a clinic I can imagine she’s feeling she’s doing that as we speak. GAH!!!!
Yes, I hope Am uh is taking care of herself with how overwhelming it must be in any health care facility right now.
Me too, I’ve been thinking about Nay…
NAY!!! How are you doooooinnng????
She’s around, I was texting her earlier. I just messaged her again. She’s likely busy disinfecting!
Thank you!!!!!!!
I’m scared out of my mind! But I was prepared last month and bought plenty of hand sanitizer (and every other sanitizer) and enough food for a couple of weeks, jic. I also have an N95 Vogmask that I was wearing when I was still going out, but I’m home for the duration now.
Health-wise, so far, so good (knock on wood). Son #2 is off from Wal-Mart for 2 weeks to protect me from the germs, And son #1 and hubs both work in our small town. Son #1 is at a little sports bar, so I don’t think they’ll be open much longer. Hubs, however, works at the Lowe’s online fulfillment center, so they’ll be the ones to stay open for a while.
We’re all washing and sanitizing like crazy!
I wanna snuggle you from afar Nay!!!!!!
Yes, spray everyone with lysol before you see them. Or have your husband build a temporary outdoor shower. Everyone can shower before they come in.
I’m glad you are doing well.
Our bars are and restaurants are closed – restaurants can do drive thru or curbside pickup but that’s it. Since all three of my kids work for bars, they are all out of luck…fortunately for them they are all still in school and it’s not their livelihood like it is for a lot of people. My middle one also works in the warehouse for my company so he can still make some money, at least for a little while, because we are very small and make a product that goes on medical tables…we probably won’t be affected (as long as everyone stays healthy).
Thinking of you Renee…saying a little prayer for you every morning. {hugs}
❤️️❤️️❤️️
Huge HUGS to you all! I’m not getting within 6 (or 10) feet of anyone in my family right now. Sanitizer is constantly in my hoodie pouch and Lysol wipes and Spic n Span are being used over and over on door knobs, handles, counters, bathroom fixtures–anything that’s being touched. If anyone shows any sign of sickness, I’ll be quarantined to one bedroom and they’ll be quarantined to another until we find out what’s going on.
I’m really concerned about the left heart cath I have to get done on 4/8. They go in through a tiny incision in either my neck or groin, but I’m not thrilled about any part of me being open to the air. It’s my annual test, though, so it has to be done.
Lauren Gilley’s Son of Rome Series and her Lean Dog Legacy Series are each on sale for .99.
Every day I have to remind myself this is real. I’m a hermit anyway, unless it’s running for the kids so at least once a day, I have to check myself that this is our reality and not a dream. Still so bizarre.
Day 1- I called a therapist
Day 2- Slightly better
Day 3- I’ve actually really enjoyed
No time to actually do any on this binging of tv shows or reading books or extra chores around the house though. Sounds about right. Maybe if this really happens again in 10 years, when the kids are older I can do that stuff. (I googled what psychics had to say last night and Sylvia Brown predicted😂) I feel at peace now, don’t pick. 😜
I did watch a couple episodes of Little Fires Everywhere though. Pretty good so far, it’s been a while since I’ve read the book, but I’m loving the acting.
I looked at my Chinese Zodiac at the beginning of the Chinese New Year and apparently I was going to do great in my job and with money. 🤦♀️
This pandemic was not factored in, lol.
But there’s still the whole year left yet, there’s time! She said it ends as quickly as it begins. So, ya know. That’s a broad statement.
It is bittersweet but I wonder when done how people will view climate change. Because of the lock down in Italy the Venice canal water is clear and there are dolphins and white swans taking advantage of the quiet. Also the air quality has vastly improved. In China too the pollution has already decreased so much.
Good point Bev. There’s a lot we can learn from this if people take time to look around and observe it all.
FLT: “Wake up!”–Iron and Magic by Ilona Andrews.
Yes, I’m reading this as a stand alone because I’m only like 2 or 3 books into the Kate Daniels series.
Seems like forever since I’ve done this!
FLT: “I was the one dancing with Max when it happened.” What You Wish For by Katherine Center. I got an email that it’s read now for 72 hrs on Netgalley!
I just saw the spring break videos from Florida.
Seriously? All those people mixing and then going home to their respective states and counties.
INSANE!!!! This is so stressful to me. Obvious clear indication of a pandemic and to stay away, all these businesses shutting down or changing their operating procedures, and yet the beaches… FULL.
Though I hear they’ve officially closed down the beaches for good now, but come on. Seriously?
Also, people need nature. I need to start working in the yard and going for walks. I live in a very small town that is pretty rural so .
But if you live near a beach how wonderful if people could access it in a responsible way just to get out to that kind of beauty for an hour or so. I say if empty enough to be able to keep distance use your greenspaces if it is still allowed.
I now know that as of now I’ll be off work for around a month. I should probably come up with a schedule so I dont just veg the whole time. Except this week. This week I’m a sloth.
Just saw, bev. Sorry! We’ll probably all end up being at home unless they get that highly possible treatment approved and distributed quickly.
I’m praying they will. I know if I was on life support, I’d want them to give it to me!
I’m lucky in how my job is treating it. I just wish that as the population is self distancing that I could trust that our government is doing what is needed. That we have a plan for the needed hospital supplies and testing. Most of the countries that are doing well are wide spread testing and tracing. And working on a vaccine that most scientists agree will probably take a year. Though it is nice that countries are testing treatments they’d been working on for other virus strains.
