HAPPY TUESDAY NEW RELEASE DAY!! SO MANY AMAZING books by our very favorite authors just went live today, and my blurb jolts are HUGE!!!!! Plus, we already have amazing feedback for one of ’em. Let’s read! 😀
BLURB JOLTS!! YES!!! 😀 The Sinner (latest BDB, and she’s suffering through her transition, she doesn’t know what’s going on… and then he appears), The Return (her best friend goes missing, and suddenly shows up 2 years later, but something is different…) The Herd (psych-thriller!! A group of empowering women that everyone wants to be a part of, but they’re not… so… perfect.) The Honey-Don’t List (they work for a famous TV couple that hate each other, and now they have to go on tour with them), Problem Child (I LOVED book #1 – she’s a sociopath, and I’m so excited for this one!!)
Yvonne: Cannot wait for BDB The Sinner woohoo
Harper: Can’t wait for The Honey-Don’t List !!!!
Tasha J: I finished The Herd last night. My first 2020 read complete and such a great start to the year! I love, love dramatic mystery/thrillers where you’re so stuck in the character’s heads, finding out their inter workings and what not, that the secrets and surprises are just thrilling bonuses to the book.
I went in blindly, because I look at so many books, I thankfully forgot the synopsis so it was even better for me. I guessed at everything from the very beginning and that is one of my favorite parts. Unputdownable

Just finished Honey-Don’t List. I don’t know how I feel. I think Christina Lauren are trying to change their trademark genre. There aren’t any explicit scenes in their book and no scenes that are really funny either (just like in Twice in a Blue Moon). The chemistry is missing also. The writing is still amazing and the character development is getting deeper and deeper. So we can’t call it a rom-com or a contemporary romance anymore and the romance is not very believable yet to call it a romance. I still really enjoy it though and will give the authors a few books to adapt to this new genre they are trying to adventure in. After I finished, I went to Goodreads and read some reviews. There are many people that notice the same things as me. Hope the authors read them.
Awww bummer. It sounds like a fun one ’cause I can’t imagine having to stay in close quarters with a couple that can’t stand each other but have to fake it. LOL!
Thanks for the heads-up. I wasn’t sure about this one. It’s quite expensive on kindle, and I haven’t really enjoyed any of their books since the Beautiful series (except maybe the Josh and Hazel one which was kinda cute).
The writers have changed their style, and that’s fine. Their perfect right to do so, and their new style is very popular. It’s just not for me. It’s not just the sexiness of the Beautiful series that I liked (although that was part of the appeal), but I just felt the characters were more substantial. The newer books seem to be characters I just don’t really care about or believe in…. I also felt the great chemistry from the Beautiful books hasn’t been there in some of the more recent books.
I could not even finish the Unhoneymooners, and I’m not a fan of reality TV so I think I will leave this new one alone. I’m sure it will have many fans, just not moi.
It’s the best glitter I’m coming up with this morning, LOL! Happy Tuesday, all!
*twirls in the glitter*
We could all use extra glitter right now… Thank you Grey!!!
Though she’s seeming a bit grumpy. 😉 LOL! Poor Tinkerbell.
I feel this. 😝
Doing villain glitter. 🙂 It seems appropriate.
ooh…
The Kiss Quotient is on sale. I really enjoyed this one.
YAY!!! Okay I’m adding it now. 😀
So excited about starting The Herd and Problem Child on Audible of course! I just listened to the sample for both and I’m already hooked! I listened to Jane Doe a few weeks ago and loved it. I can’t decide which one to start first…decisions, decisions!!
Either way, you win!! 😉
Eeeep! I agree, can’t go wrong. But since I’ve read and loved The Herd, I hope you enjoy!
Good Morning Maryse!
I have a question for readers and yourself. I was hoping for some suggestions for a 5 star rating book to read. I read about 4 to 5 book per week….😀😀. Love authors Jewel E Anne, Kate Stewart, Vi keeland, LJ Shen, and many many more. Most Genre’s .
I read your blog plus others. Just haven’t found something as of lately that has been amazing. Just a lot of fluff.
Check out my 4.5 star and 5 star reviews categories (though I have a feeling you have). LOL!! How about K.A. Tucker. I LOVE HER!!
https://www.maryse.net/tag/5-stars
https://www.maryse.net/tag/4-5-stars
Also pretty much anything by Kristin Hannah!!!
It will be hard to find a book you haven’t read. I go through the same thing from time to time. I end up starting books I was reluctant to start reading for a long time and then DNFing because I remember why I didn’t like it in the first place.
Some of my favorites authors are Collen Hoover, Brittainy C Cherry, Helen Hoang, Tracy Garvis Graves, Elizabeth O’Roark, Krista Richie (Amour Amour), Christina Lauren, Emily Foster (How not to fall), Sally Thorne, Katherine Center, Kate Quinn (The Alice Network), Kristin Hannah (The Nightingale- it will be a movie very soon with Dakota and Elle Fanning).
I’m with Maryse on K. A. Tucker. I don’t like many of her books, but Simple Wild was amazing.
Have you read Kate Canterbary’s The Walsh series? I really liked it.
Also Maryse – another one to add to your pre-orders list. A new MM book in the Walsh series coming out on March 31st. (The others aren’t mm BTW). This one is called Missing In Action. It’s about Wes, a hot SEAL, Lauren’s brother from the first book.
There is also #1 coming out in a new series in June, called The Ash Affair. It looks good.
Ohhhh okay!!! 🙂 Thank you Jan!!!!
Hi Nina,
These ladies are really in a class of their own. Hard act to follow.
Ok, I have WAY TOO MUCH time on my hands & so went through my Goodreads “Read” list.
Found some books that are similar-ish to the authors you mention.
(I also read another genres… too many to mention here 🙂 )
Good luck!
The King by Ivy Fox

You Can Have Manhattan by P. Dangelico
F*ck Marriage by Tarryn Fisher
The Boyfriend Experience by J.A. Huss
Come Back to Bed by Kayley Loring
Accidental Tryst by Natasha Boyd
Mr. Romantic by J.A. Huss

Mr. Mysterious by J.A. Huss
Just a random observation to share, but it cracks me up that my dog through the night will change positions, want in and out and in the covers, try and reposition the covers, sit on me?!?!?, and almost push me off the bed, but if I change anything she sighs and grumbles for ten minutes until she falls asleep again.
TOTALLY BOTH MY DOGS. Thank goodness they’re small and don’t take up much room in the bed, but HOLY MOLY can they be annoying. And they annoy each other too.
Funny, I was just thinking same thing about my husband. 😉
🤣
Now I’m imagining your husband just randomly sitting on you in the middle of the night. Like just looking around thinking…oh yeah maybe this is the spot.
LOL!!!! 🤣
bev!!!!! What’s this Crash Landing??? on Netflix that someone just binged on. K-DRAMA!!!!
Crash Landing was huge, both domestically and internationally.
I started it but haven’t finished it yet, I dont know why as I liked it alot. Just mood i think. I’ll finish it at some point even though pretty spoiled, lol.
It stars Hyun Bin (❤❤❤ I love him) and Son Ye Jin. Both are big stars and really good actors too. Great chemistry together. She is a South Korea heiress and he a North Korea soldier. She ends up by accident in North Korea and they have to form an alliance.
From what I’ve watched it has the feel of a mix of genres. Definitely romcom and caper like but because of the set up the stakes are high as is the possibility of heartbreak. I also noticed that it felt slightly nostalgic because it reminds me of those classic 30/40s films I loved so much. Also the cinematography is beautiful.
Well, thanks for reminding me it’s Tuesday. I’ve been knee deep in homework and talking to teachers all morning and had no idea. Is there an end? My list matches yours! 😃
LOL!!!!!!
How are you liking Pretty Girls, btw? There’s some real dark stuff in there. 😬
I’m not that far in yet… I’m excited but also obsessed with reading everything on Corona when I need to get back to my book. Yep! That does it. That’s what I’m doing as soon as I get home tonight.
I totally get it. I can’t immerse myself in anything no matter how hard I try. Too much going on. I went to my first therapy session today. Boy, was it trying on the emotions. I did feel huge relief in not being so alone anymore. For parenting reasons, I’m needing some guidance on one of mine and now have some tools to hopefully turn things around in a new direction.
Leslie, can you remind me of your Shepard’s pie recipe?
Tasha, sorry I am just seeing this now. Bottom layer is cooked ground beef mixed with (undiluted) can of cream of celery (cream of anything your fam likes works). Layer 2 is canned creamed corn mixed with couple handfuls of frozen corn and frozen peas. Top layer is mashed potatoes. Heat in 350 oven til warm and bubbly.
Thanks, it was no rush. Just sounded good in the coming week. 😀
You can use all canned veggies if that is what you have on hand. I find frozen peas /corn easier because I’m only using a handful for size casserole I’m making. Also, you can use instant mashed potatoes instead of real ones.
I have all of these things AND the mashed potatoes (instant) since I rarely have potatoes due to Keto, but keep those on hand in case of emergency. I wonder if I can skip creamed corn and just do corn for that layer? Or something else instead of the creamed corn?
I love corn but not creamed.
Maryse, I only do creamed corn to make it more creamy. You can totally do a layer of any veggies you want!
Sounds SO YUMMY!!!!
The news about Trump maybe wanting some people to return to work after the 31st scares me.
All around us countries this week are locking down and he might want to open back up.
Excuse me while I scream into a pillow for a minute.
Just made a pitcher of margaritas! Any takers?
*holds out glass*
Thanks, R.
*gives you bev’s too*
Thanks 😉
Tempted.
But I cant.
I feel like if I do by the time I go back to work I’d have to enter rehab first.
bev you know it’s bad when you have to turn down virtual cocktails!
Lol. I know it’s bad when I’m thinking about watching another ep of Tiger King.
Honestly look at these tweets and you will have an idea of what I’m thinking of spending more time on:
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.buzzfeed.com/amphtml/ehisosifo1/tiger-king-netflix-tweets
OMG I’m thinking I might as well turn it on too, but oh jeez.
🤣🤣🤣
I didnt realize until that tweet that when that lady lost her arm he put on an EMS jacket.
I mean what world do these people live in.
I mean do you hear the screams and say, “Wait. Let me get my special jacket.”
LOL!! I was just thinking the same thing!!!! Bev. YUM!!!!
https://www.saltandlavender.com/ranch-chicken-and-rice-casserole/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=ranch-chicken-and-rice-casserole Made this tonight. So simple and few ingredients, tasted great too. Thought I’d share. ☺️
1 county over from me just confirmed their 1st case. I figured it was here already, but maybe more will take it seriously.
This sounds amazing too. I love casseroles so much. Layered foods baked in an oven all together. MY FAVORITE. I miss rice.
Morning lovelies! Coffee was oh so good this morning. Praying all is well for everyone. This social distancing has left a lot more time for reading. Very deep in a Mafia series by Cora Reilly…great series!
YAY!! Hi D.G.!!! 😀 Yeah I hear that one often as a recommendation!!!
*waves at Maryse from a distance of 6feet away*. I might actually hit me reading goal this year!
HI Maryse! I just got my hands on The Vanity of Roses by Lily White, love this author’s darkness, and so far loving it!
I LOVE MMA fighters and especially angry ones. LOL!!! It does look good. 😀
Hey are you guys following CJ Roberts on Twitter? She’s writing a continuation of Caleb and Livvie’s story from Captive in the Dark. She’s doing it every 3 hours and asking people for input on how the story goes. She’s doing this live and letting us see the story as it unfolds. I ❤️ It!
Oh that’s so cool! Thanks for the update!
Question:
What is with the quarantine haircuts? For most it has been under two weeks who needs a haircut that bad in 2 weeks? What if this actually lasts a couple months? What is there to look forward to if you’ve already cut all your hair off?
When there is a big change, pulling at your emotions and sense of control, often you want to change your hair or get a piercing, tattoo, something. Such as after a big breakup. Maybe it’s the same? I haven’t even had a trim since last fall and I’m feeling it. Luckily I got all the boys in before this happened.
You should be safe doing a trim. And you are probably right with a mix of big emotions, boredom, and something we have control over. Especially since YouTube is full of tutorials on how to cut your own hair.
Oh no, I’m not doing it. There’s something special about having someone do it for you. I’ll live until then.
I cut my own hair…
Have been for years. Probably not a good thing. 😉 LOL!!! I do the ponytail chop but at three different positions to get long layers… then, you know… I experiment on a few areas.
All thanks to many Youtube tutorials. If an actual hairdresser were to work on my hair now, they’d punch me right in the nose.
My husband dyed my roots last week – I was freaking out which made him freak out. But he did a fantastic job!
I picked up all the dye I needed for 5 months…roots are essential!
Now cutting my own short hair…
Sad to say predictions in Canada are that this will last until July or August.
UK seniors advised to isolate until August.
“NO ONE TOLD ME THERE WOULD BE DAYS LIKE THIS”
Lennon
Is anybody else tire of people hoarding? Was looking at target thinking on thing of chai would be nice and draino because of a slow sink and all items are low or out of stock. I dont even want to think about the fact that I bought my regular toilet paper and paper towel amount and should probably repurchase next week. *sigh*
Supply and demand people it will work if we give it a chance.
I will admit I did buy double dog food so that I didnt have to worry about that.
Harper, I agree with your comment s on Lauren’s Unhoneymooners & Honey-Don’t List. Not like her other books – bit sad when that happens with my go-to authors.
Really enjoying reading Kayley Loring these days – shades of Lauren & Keeland but bit sweeter.
Sleeper (5), Come Back to Bed (4.5) & Plus Ones (4)
Just what I need right now – lightish, good characters & storylines
Looking forward to Loring’s Back For More – releasing in July. 🙂
P.S. Listening In My Life by Beatles right now – grounding.
I’ve never even heard of Kayley Loring but I’m going to try these out. On KU too 😀
Thanks Mony.
Hi Jan, they’re working for me right now…nothing left for me to read from the hard-hitters.
Searching madly for new authors…
🙂
I’m looking forward to the new Kate Canterbary coming out next Tuesday, plus the new Julianna Keyes coming out on Monday. Sequel to Team Player, which I liked. (baseball).
Yeah, I’m def up for new authors too. I do plan to reread some old favs as well, though.
I’ll try those too! I love new authors. I found a profile in Goodreads this week with a ton of books I haven’t read yet. So far I read Signed by Marni Mann and See Through Heart by Amie Knight. They’re both series. I read just the first one from each series and I really enjoyed them. They’re both 3 stars for me. I’m at 50% of That Guy by Kim Jones and it’s hilarious. It seems to me that it’s a parody of all contemporary romances. It’s starting to get boring, but it was worth it already for the first 50%.
I’m going to try Signed and See Through Heart. Thanks Harper. If you haven’t read Kate Canterbary’s the washes series, i recommend.
I think I read the first one a couple of years ago. I’ll check out the others. Thanks for the tip, Jan!
FLT: “So what did you do, Mary Jo?” called Ben in his crisp British accent.
Storm Cursed by Patricia Briggs
Ooh, First Line Thursday!! Haven’t done this in ages!! bev, Storm Cursed is sitting in my kindle waiting to be read. I’ve just gotta get in a pnr mood. I’m currently revelling in historical romance.
C’mon and join us, everyone! What’s the first line of the book you’re currently reading?
I think after this I might go right into Storm Bitten. Just hang with Mercy and crew for a bit. And hopefully Bran, lots of Bran.
Oops. I got the titles mixed up. I’ve read Storm Cursed. I meant I’ve got the new one waiting: Smoke Bitten. LOL.
So, when I caught the girl sitting next to me on the plane reading a magazine article on how to get out of the friend zone, I did something I never do – I got involved.
Electric Blue by Rebecca Jenshak (new author)…cool book 4.2 GR
Cheating here…2nd line…1st was boring. 🙂
FLT: ‘Silence. A dark, calm centre absorbing chaos into its stillness.’ from The Sins of Lord Easterbrook by Madeline Hunter.
Ha ha ha. It’s an unusual opening for a historical romance. But Lord Easterbrook has spent some time in the Far East, where he was taught how to meditate.
I’m 15% in and enjoying it so far. I just read the first 3 books in the series, and 4 starred all three. This is #4 and looking good 😀
Maryse did you see the news?
I see a lot of news bev. Though I’m trying not to. LOL!!
Which part?
That we now have surpassed China and Italy with our number of people with coronavirus. I knew it was probably coming but didnt realize we’d spike so fast.
😮 Oh noes.
It hurt to look at. And now our president wants to assign levels of risk so we can open up the economy again. ☹
In some places like Taiwan and S. Korea that is working because they were prepared and acted fast, plus they are closely monitoring and tracing their citizens along with rigorous testing. And even still scientists are worried that it will flare up again there if they relax too much.
We and it looks like much of the world are not that prepared. It hurts that all these countries are locking and ours is focused on opening again.
I dont want to be a part of a herd immunity. I dont like those numbers.
bev, the hubs and I decided that regardless of what our government says, we’re staying isolated until the medical community deems it safe. I hope there are a lot of people doing this, at least those whose jobs aren’t at stake.
Hopefully this is one of his ideas that he doesn’t implement or that our governors are able to still make the call.
I work with children and I couldn’t imagine us all mixing together before it is safe.
Today was rough. I need space more than ever. I feel like all day long I don’t get to think of a single sentence in my brain before I’m cut off. It was a nice, sunny day, much of it until it rained and supposed to rain the next few weeks = stuck. 😥 I thought today’s homework would be a little lighter since we finished science and history yesterday for the week, with today being the last for some English too. But, alas, the teacher has added something new. Yet again. Another new app so that we can turn work in electronically. They were given a syllabus at the start of this and are loosely following it. It’s all unorganized and every time I feel like we’re organized over here, they throw out something else. I’m at a point where if it’s 1 more and I’m gonna break and say something. Parents and students are overwhelmed enough. I can’t imagine the ones who are working full time that have to come home and do what we do all day long. It’s a full time job in itself for just 1 of my kids. I have more that have needs too. “Why are you doing this to us??” That’s what I want to shout. And! And, they’re not even communicating every change to parents. It’s put on students’ message boards that they should be checking daily. (Mind you, there were 5 posts at all different hours today from just 1 teacher). She reprimanded students who didn’t show up for a video meeting (new, spur of the moment, that they should have checked for, yet there was no forewarning). Several students had to ask multiple questions as to how they would know in advance. 🙄🙄 So poorly thought out. I say, take a few days, think of what you all want to include to broaden their learning and compile a freaking email, telephone call to parents. Gah! I just can’t stand this for 1 more week, I tell you, if they extend this and teachers get more serious about this than they already are, I will lose my sh*t.
Thank you for providing me a space to rant. Sorry!!! 😭
You can rant each and every day to us, if you need it Tasha. I don’t have children so I have no clue what it’s like to be constantly surrounded by young curious minds and all that energy. I’m exhilarated and exhausted just thinking about it.
I worked today. Then… I watered my plants. And I trimmed some.
Omg and my plant has bugs. That was just the last straw. The umbrella tree has been browning it’s leaves for weeks and dropping them and today I found what I thought was to be dust, but they had legs. Didn’t move, but clearly something. And my Mom got the same tree and she’s having the same issues. I’ve been googling what the heck they are for hours.
Only 1 is curious and needs stimulated every minute of the day (this is not an exaggeration) Thank God my husband is here cuz I just can’t right now. But, he doesn’t get graded or have to turn in work. The oldest wishes she didn’t have to do anything. It’s all just so time consuming and friggin stressful. I need order and organization and a heap less to do.
And the baby just gets into everything and screams all day long. Happy screams and mad screams and whiny screams.
We the parents are losing our patience.
You should talk to the teacher and maybe ask if they can set up a place for the parents to talk online too.
Have they had their spring break yet? The kids may need a break from it all too and you could use the time to really plan a schedule that works for all of you.
Do they have rain coats and boots so they can go outside and stomp around some?
Also, if you make a schedule put yourself into it. Seriously. Mark your time. I’m a huge proponent of having your own time. Maybe your husband and kids would like the same. It is not a selfish thing to do.
I do not have kids and can only imagine how much effort it takes but I do work with children and sometimes the hardest part for me is always having to be mentally and emotionally present for those 8 hours. So take your time.
Talking to this particular teacher is like talking to a wall. That’s not quite accurate, she talks back, but I don’t like her tone and she never actually answers my questions. I hate it, but I may have to. We don’t get spring break here, just an extended weekend around Easter. They do have rain boots! It was thundering tonight though. ☹️ I thought about taking a drive, but there is much to do here currently and had to be present today. The thing about marking out time for ourselves is I don’t know how. Lol. Like, he’ll watch the kids so I can shower (with everyone coming in to have a chat) or he showers (no one comes in to chat). I still hold the baby for nap so it’s kinda supposed to be my time, but naps are getting harder and shorter and not on time and I have to continue to talk to the others throughout. I sleep with the baby and he sleeps in another room with another (currently, otherwise, I have that one at night too) so….we’ve tried locking a door, we have a locksmith. Otherwise there are questions, fights, meltdowns, etc. literally can’t send everyone to another room to occupy themselves. They fight or 1 is scared or 1 screams and wails the entire time. They don’t all sit and watch a movie for a period or anything. They’re all like energizer bunnies that need, need need all the time. They need help, they need direction, they need near, they need a drink, food, diaper change, they hurt, space (the oldest) attention. The age differences present a challenge with play time and maturity levels.
Tasha I wonder if you could ask for an absence, which I know sounds weird, but it sounds like you might need it. You and your family’s whole schedule got turned upside down and you now need to remake a new normal. That is a big thing for everyone.
I’m surprised the school hasnt done that so they can be prepared.
And you seem to be good at and enjoy researching so it might give you a chance to look into homeschooling blogs especially centered around families with mixed ages. I wonder if there is some parent support groups too like around the gardening.
But besides that just rant away. And I’ll just read it. I have a co worker who has to remind me that sometimes she just wants to complain, lol, which I take to mean I should just listen.🙊
This sounds brilliant. I dk why the school didn’t start it immediately that way. Take an adjustment period, for Pete’s sake. It was, I think announced mid week and they had printed papers within a day to begin right away, due dates and all. I wish they themself would’ve taken a step back and really thought out how they wanted to do this. Even now. Straighten stuff out on their end instead of leave us scrambling every couple days.
Thanks for the homeschooling with mixed ages idea. I will look into it.
Also, I actually don’t like to complain, but I am hardwired that way. I think it ties into anxiety and my easily stressed nature. I am aware, it’s just super hard not to. It helps me sort my emotions to let it out, I think. That or I’m just riding the wave.
It does help you sort it out. I’m the same way and believe me I’m not always happy when my bf wants to offer suggetions, LOL. I need to often talk things out, even if it’s in my own head.
Or sometimes just to let it go, hence my rant on hoarding and my need to call someone names but trying not to get political. Though now I think it is more a lack of humanity.
Though sometimes ranting makes me madder so I should stop there.
Tasha….my State just announced that the kids would not return to regular school this school year. Online learning\teaching until June. Just straight crazy! I get it…I want everyone to be safe…I just want our regular lives back. I am not a huge fan of all this change. Working from home…hubs working from home…kids schooling from home…poor dog is enjoying his self too much.
JUNE!!! No way, can’t do it. Nope. We were supposed to end the school year late May. We’ve not yet done any video conferences or anything. Just a few messages through their online classroom. Supposed to try one tomorrow. Yay. 😒 So far, they’re scheduled to go back April 6. Granted, no one believes it and are prepared for the worst, but also, not prepared. Like, there’ll be more freak outs than mine the minute it changed even though we know it’s coming.
I’m curious about state testing though. Does it just not happen then?
I have no clue. How are the grades going to work? All homework, classwork grades? It is a mess. We normally end May 20 something…so not sure where the June came from. I just know that it will be harder with my high schooler than my junior high schooler…
I had a friend soothe my worries last week saying that the grades won’t count and they won’t get penalized if the work does or does not get done, at least for the younger ones (mine is 4th), I’m sure it’s different for higher grade schoolers. 😬 Now that this teacher is asking for a way to see work so she can grade it, I question that. Also, they all called us last week to see how it was going and she didn’t have proof on her end mine was doing some of the websites. I watched her do them and it’s annoying it’s not showing up, she’s not the only one. It’s not even the fact that she wants to have it sent now, it’s, are there additional assignments now? Maybe she just wants to see that all students are doing the work, but we parents don’t always explain it best either. All of this stuff is what they would work on in class with the teacher and bring home to review. Another unknown driving me batty.
I am crossing my fingers that the grading will be more lenient. I know in the past my 7th grader had problems with some of the online stuff while at school. Thankful both of my kids are in grades that issue chromebooks so they are use to working from them year round anyway.
I don’t think anyone was prepared for this at all. Hopefully your teacher will figure out what she is doing good and what needs to be worked on…sooner than later. Praying that this all goes away sooner than later also.
