Good morning! Just finished the last book in my run of βedgy, but not too edgyβ books. (Deep cleansing breath) Loved them all!
The Company (Huss, 3 books in 1)
Play Along (Swan)
The Bad Guy (Aaron)
Slack: Ford #1 (Huss)
Taut: Ford #2 (Huss)
Liked that they were “smart” books – didnβt feed everything to the reader. Great job on the characters – some a little…hmm “extraordinary”. A bit of crazy in the stories but not over the top (okay, maybe one was). Sooooβ¦onward to a lighter headspace. π
Oh I LIKE that genre-title!!!!
By the way, Mony!!! I get a kick out of your avatar!! π
yea…I like it too…thanks
I one-clicked ONE GOOD THING! It called to me! A gorgeous man with sad eyes has been holed up in cabin seven??
Cool. Nancy, would you have the author’s name? Thanks.
Hi Mony! It’s up there in the list of new goodies. Jennifer Millikin π
thanks
Ooh. Pretty cover on One Good Thing. It’s on KU too. I might try that. I’m also going to check out To Have and To Hoax, a new historical romcom. And Hope Harbor. Another nice cover and I will try a sample of the book.
Finally started Schitt’s Creek. I think I might end up loving it, especially the son. Got to love the snark.
I finished You deserve each other last night and really enjoyed. For me, it was the right amount of comedy and light-heartedness. It gave me the chance to think about the way we act sometimes and the way it is perceived by other people. I don’t want to give anything away, but I recommend.
Thank you Harper!
I started one of the Amazon First Reads from this month, and I’m loving the writing. Only two POVs (not sure which one is the villain yet – both unreliable narrators) so I have a feeling I will be in for a nice twisty shock! π
I like finding books like that make me take a step & do exactly that…will look at it. I had the same experience with What Alice Forgot by Lianne Moriarty (not Alzheimer book)…not just a light read. Thanks Harper
I just started The Priest, the latest in the Original Sinners series. Dang, I missed these people and this writing. So so good.
I’m having a good reading day too!! π Finally.
Iβve has several in a row! That Metalsmith series that was so much like Mercy Thompson books, and now Soren and Nora and the gang. Happy happy.
I just read the first Toby Daye book and it reminded me of the Mercy books too.
Jan–I LOOOOVE that series! Toby Daye and Jane Yellowrock are the two series that I always keep caught up on, and IMO they get better and better. I also love Charley Davidson, but I still need to read the final two in it. I’m several books behind on Mercy, but I’ve never been as crazy about them.
Ooh I love the Mercy series… anyone know of more books that are like it?
The Magicsmith Series, by LR Braden. 3 books so far. Gobbled them up. So much like Mercy Thompson. Seriously!! You will not be disappointed.
Sadly, the library doesn’t have it and it’s not a part of KU so I will have to wait.
Just finished Ride by Harper Dallas – REALLY liked this one!
Got it from Cherylβs Best 2019 Reads list. She says βThis was a debut book that certainly did not read like one. Everyone probably knows that I love sports romance and when I saw that R. Renee recommended this one, I promptly one-clicked it. Strong heroine and angsty well-written story about extreme snowboarding.β Ditto (Iβm lazy). One of the strongest sports reads Iβve come across. Part of my light headspace book run.
Thank you Cherylβ¦plus have read more of your 2019 picks!
I loved Ride, Mony! And I usually hate sports romances! <3
Agree! It felt like I was on the powder snow in the forest and the dynamics between all the characters felt authentic. Next up – read YOUR best reads…
Hey guys! Been busy around the house and outside, have had no time to read/chat. Spring was in full force here the last few days though it seems tomorrow weβre back to the 40s. π
I made something new tonight, no mayo coleslaw. Refreshing and yummy! I was getting tired of the comfort food and needed something lighter. https://womenoftoday.com/2020/04/04/camilas-no-mayo-coleslaw/ I used the slice part of a cheese grater bc I thought itβd save time and it looks kind of like a mandolin. Yea, crazy arm workout and I got my knuckle *ouch*. And then topped it over baked potato and shredded bbq chicken.
Also, had my daughter make Leslieβs Shepardβs pie recipe this Monday and it was so good! Thanks Leslie!
Hubs got a notice for filing for unemployment this week, at least until May 1st. Itβs weighing heavily, but Iβm also a tad in denial. NEED this stuff to be over with already.
Finally got myself watching something. Nearly finished with season 2 of On My Block on Netflix.
Coleslaw recipe looks great & great timing. Had some cabbage left over from making unstuffed cabbage rolls last night. It’s shredded and ready to go. Thanks Tasha
Hope it turns out to your liking! I added 1 whole lemon *juice only* and more olive oil, salt, a little red wine vinegar bc I didnβt have white, and onion powder cuz we donβt do onion. I really love the simple flavors more than that of a heavy mayonnaise based slaw. The apple adds a different sweetness to it too.
I agree – I don’t use mayo any more in coleslaw. I like it fresh tasting.
And congrats on your daughter cooking. Makes it worthwhile that we let them play at making us food. Hmm…”yes, you’ve baked a yummy cake.”
That is too cute about your daughter cooking the shepherd’s pie. I love it!!
*air hugs to j-man’s big sis*
Her first ever meal made, besides eggs or a box of mac n cheese. So proud!
Schools are canceled until next school year and restaurants are now closed until…..? Whenever it is deemed safe.
Today was beautiful. Perfect spring day. Looks like it will stay that way for the rest of the week and into the next. I’m here for it, but it makes everything else seem even more disconnected.
I need to fall asleep earlier today. I can do it, I know I can.
Why does the movie Parasite sound familiar to me? Is it something you watched that freaked you out, Maryse? Bev?
YESSSSS!! I LOVED PARASITE!! It also won an Oscar for best picture of the year, in fact! IT’S CRAZY!! It’s a thriller for sure, but doesn’t completely start off that way, but develops into it. Subtle (at first) and serious and kind of funny at times (in that Korean humor way). I think you’d love it (especially if it had been a book!!)
About an upper class family that hires a poor college student (though they don’t know that) to help tutor their daughter… and then I’ll let you watch the rest from there.
Because it swept ALL the awards and was in the news alot. It pushed the conversation of foreign films that aren’t British being in contention to win Best Picture and not just best Foreign picture.
One of the leads is the lead from My Ahjussi (and I adore him in that) and the second lead in Coffee Prince , so in two of my favorite K dramas, but it isn’t exactly my type. Especially right now, I need my serotonin.
I wish I could do horror & thrill movies but sadly I cannot. π Husband thrives on those & has cottoned on to Korean SF, thrillers, etc.) Told him about this one but he forgot in viral times.
Now, if ever you want to talk about movies with no major angst, I’m all in. I admire you guys!
Love love love foreign films- not doing N. A. format films any more unless super awesome. You can throw some of those my way too.
And two inch (yup) snowflakes are coming down in our neck of the woods…
Ok, Iβm trying it!!
Next time I go to the store. This sounds so good.
https://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ina-garten/lemon-capellini-3742575
YEAH IT DOES!! It’s straight pasta, butter and lemons.
OMG GIMME.
Oh wait… I’m still not THAT carb-ish. But this is my dream dish.
Ooh, does sound good. I like the simplicity of it. If you make it, let’s know how it tastes.
PASTAAAAA!! This is one major staple the store has been out of for weeks. I picked up orzo the other day just cuz thatβs all they had. And I saw Ina had a tomato soup recipe with orzo or something in it. She has a lentil one that looks simple too so I grabbed them. I need bow tie too. Fam was out so I couldnβt barter. π
Orzo is one of my favorites. I make a Mediterranean pasta salad with it. Cook it, then sliced up cherry tomatoes, chopped up cucumbers, Kalamata olives, capers, tons of olive oil, a whole lemon juiced, salt and pepper and TONS of FETA!!!! So creamy and rich and salty and lemony. PERFECTION.
If you like a bit of pow to it, chopped up red onions and garlic maybe but I’m not into that in my older age.
I used to get a salad like that from the Safeway deli. It was so good. I love kalamata olives and feta.
I’d so devour that right now.
Sounds delish! I thought of making something like this for Easter, but the kids changed their minds and wanted the one w/strawberries. My balsamic glaze came today. Definitely putting this recipe on my list of things to make!
Oh I can’t wait to hear about the one with strawberries!!!
“older age”……. pfffffft…… LOL
My store has been ok with pasta when I went. One day all ramen was gone and another most of the rice, like all the different types.
Right? Shelves wiped out. Rice, beans, pasta… poof. Pasta is a super easy recipe, but making it into some shapes. Going to have to do some Pinterest searches.
Love Ina Garten!
2 sticks of butter and 2 lemons? Oh yeah baby! A sprinkle of Italian Parsley – and WHAM – this is a side dish this weekend for sure. Butter and Lemon will surely keep the virus away, right? Just in case… π
Throw some chicken breast in it, and now it’s a complete PERFECT meal of my dreams. π I have Shiratake fettuccine noodle. I may just give this a go (with the chicken though).
I’m working on the Friday Finds, so FINALLY catching up on Good Girls while I put it together. π Then, my awesome book tonight.
What awesome book? You are the worst tease ever.
“What We Forgot to Bury” π
Here’s a recipe from my aunt (it’s our Hurricane recipe) and she lives in the Bahamas, and me here, so she always prepares a ton of this for food in case of power outage, and let me tell you, there is nothing better (and I’m not even a canned tuna fan AT ALL, but done this way, I wouldn’t change a thing):
Ok, here’s the cold seashell pasta dishβ¦.
cooked seashellsβ¦
canned tunaβ¦
minced onionβ¦
minced celeryβ¦
minced capersβ¦
mayo and lime juice, salt and pepper.
You can put canned green peas also if you have any, and like them, but Alfredo doesn’t like peas, so none for me. For a little twist, you can add a little of your favorite salad dressing with the mayo and lime juice.
Sorry… Alfredo is my uncle (her husband) LOL!!!
I use a TON of fresh squeezed lime juice along with just the mayo and salt and pepper and it is heaven to me.
Once… I was out of shells so I used bowtie pasta and I was just as thrilled. The shells though, absorb globs of the dressing and yumminess so it bursts flavor in your mouth just right.
I was just thinking “Maryse’s husband’s name is Alfredo? No way. She must have gotten a new pet.” I kid you not. Then I read your comment.
He’s my most awesome uncle!
I totally thought she was social distancing with someone named Alfredo.
Now that I know it’s her uncle I have a totally different image in my head.
Mmm, mmmm. Canned tuna, capers, celery for crunch *thud*. I just said tonight, letβs do tuna for lunch tomorrow with the slaw. Keeping this recipe too. Sounds perfect, thank you! Love food talk. Apparently more so now, cuz all I do is eat cook and play. π€ͺ
Made bunny bait tonight. I told the kids the more you eat, the better the bunny will find you. Thatβs why itβs bait. And my hubs said if you eat that much, youβll be finding that bunny!! So yummy, I say find the bunny. I saw him once when I was young. Lol
omg, hilarious. you guys make me laugh too much…
I love this dish. Good to know.
We just bought 35 cans of emergency tuna and salmon…wasn’t my idea…hmmm
LOL!! Sounds like me! Not that much mind you, but I bought a ton during hurricane season last year, and I still have plenty.
Sounds delicious – except for the capers – can’t do capers –
No capers… I get ya! Some days I’m into ’em, somedays … not. I like the ones in balsamic vinegar the best.
Update on reading…. y’all…. The Priest is one of the BEST in the series. Dang, I am so glad I allowed myself to “buy” a book. I convinced myself that since I am not driving anywhere gas money will be moved into book money pile. Right? So, I guess books that cost some $$$ are actually better. Not always, but these authors deserve it. I am savoring every page. I just know I’m going to have a string of duds after this.
