Good morning! Just finished my first book as part of Bevβs must-read 3 book challenge.
Lawless by Tracey Ward. A fantastic little bookβ¦set on ocean beach with a laidback surfer vibe. Lovely slow burn story about a popular champion surfer dude who gets together with a quiet pianist dudette in their beach home town. Some angst…and lots of sweet & mellow. Also made me remember how the beach gets me feeling all zen. Smell of coconut sun tan lotion, warm sun & sandβ¦add a bit of ocean waves. Ahhβ¦Mojitoβ¦with fresh mint leavesβ¦the water droplets from the glass dripping on my fingers… π
Bev has great taste in books!! π Where’s the challenge?
It was on Friday Finds & Reader Recommendations β 04-10-2020. We were asked to read 3 books we liked before reading any other books. I like it – gives me focus. Three of us are doing it. More people might be interested too…not sure if it should be posted again… Lots of fun.
I wasn’t intentionally doing it, but I guess unintentionally I am! π Although I am simultaneously listening to Lydia Bird on audio, which wasn’t in my 3.
Like Mony said, not a rec just a game. And I haven’t read anything all weekend so maybe I should do it too, lol.
Basically a challenge of look at your tbr and choose 3 books, but once you choose them you can only read those 3 books or completely DNF them. With those restrictions what looks good to you?
Mine is a mix a fantasy, a CR, and a dual timeline, but emphasis on the historical I think.
R, just wants to hang out in Hollywood right now and Mony is keeping it light.
Nice idea, bev, but I tend to hop around in my books so much I don’t know if I’d be able to stick to it. I’m an impatient reader and if I get sick of one I hop to another. I do often go back and finish them though LOL. If I was going to pick three, they would be:
One Moment Please – the new romcom recced above. It’s on KU π and I’ve already started it. I don’t mind a surprise pregnancy book if it’s done well.
Once Upon a Kiss by Laura Florand. A reread of a lovely CR set on the French Riviera in a valley where they grow roses for the perfume industry. A burnt out rock chick and a super sexy growly bear of a man who owns the rose farm. OMG those hot French guys. Hoh hoh hoh (with a French accent)
The Surrender of Miss Fairbourne by Madeline Hunter. I recently discovered this excellent HR author, and I’m trying different ones from her backlist to see if I can find another series as good as the Rothwell Brothers.
Happy reading everyone. Stay well.
This is a good challenge!!!
I have a ton of I-want-to-read-now in my TBRs. Okay I need to think.
Oh wow… and you just painted an amazing picture. I can FEEL it. I would love a mojito.
Awww…ocean waves….
I love that you used the word dudette. That word should be used more LOL.
Aaaaand now I want to go to the beach π I live inland and with the travel bans it’s not going to happen any time soon. Ah well, back to the magic of books.
Me too. Especially when I can do peace sign. lol
Afternoon. It went from 64 degrees to 38. *blink, blink* I sat on my back patio this morning with my coffee, I’m trying to make that my “me” time every morning…and about froze my fingers off, LOL! Not really, but it was quite a change from yesterday.
Yep, we did that little weather drop right before Easter…it’s been brutal ever since. Get your sweater and mittens!
It just finally started pouring here and I think there will be a nice drop in temps. mid 70’s low 80s. Being that for the last week it’s been in the 90s, this will be a nice relief. I LOVE when it’s cool and brisk out.
Store for me today, I probably could put it off a couple days, but I need to get out.
Hey, friday, Saturday, or sunday you all want to do a reading day? Just one of those days. Or a reading evening? Get off other media except to share our reading experience and maybe music, or what we are snacking on, lol.
I’m at the curbside farmer’s market right now and have curbside grocery pickup on Saturday. I’m so happy I don’t have to go into a store but scheduling grocery pickup is getting more and more difficult. I have to be patient and expect to wait for a time slot.
I cant believe how many people are out and about. But it is such a beautiful day. Probably between 60 and 70 degrees .
Pssshhh. Lucky! It snowed a bit here today, so stinkin cold. Real feel 27. π Supposed to get to 50s this weekend though. All that grass seed we planted a couple weeks ago, Iβm sure is spoiled. π
Good luck at the store! I sent hubs today and got more chai concentrate for my iced chai, along with necessities of course. He said theyβre counting people now and he couldnβt believe the amount of older couples shopping together.
I went out once myself a couple days ago, more a hardware type store (for a necessity as well) and itβs like a totally different atmosphere. Proximity was more lax as well as precautions and such. Felt normal besides the few with masks.
I’m so thankful I barely have to go for anything with my two food delivery subscriptions.
Just the dairy and eggs now… and I have enough for a couple of more weeks.
I’d love to do it on Sunday for sure!!! That’s my all-day reading day naturally as stuff cooks in the crock pot and in the oven for the week.
Yay! I have stuff for a crock pot bean, lemon, kale soup. Be good for a sunday. Except it calls for a rind of parm and I forgot that and not going back for it.
OMG Bev that sounds AMAZING!!!! Do you have a recipe?
It does have quinoa in it, not sure if you can have that or not.
https://www.halfbakedharvest.com/crockpot-tuscan-white-bean-and-lemon-soup/
I can’t have quinoa OR beans, but somehow I feel like making this anyway… both are incredibly healthy, and I’m low-carb more now than I am keto. π
This is SO up my alley, it’s CRAZY. This will be my comfort food soup.
*fingers crossed * it taste good.
Love this soup – All the things I Iike to eat – beans, quinoa, greens. Love to add fresh herbs too. Saved to my quinoa file. Thanks. π
Hey Bev,
I like your idea of reading + maybe music day or evening. I’m in if others think could do this… Specially like the music part… π
Hopefully it will help me focus back on reading. I was reading a lot the first couple weeks of this and loved it.
Hubs got pork chops also. I donβt like to buy them because theyβre always so tough and the kids hate to chew them. Now Iβm wondering if anyone has any super simple recipes for them? I like to plop stuff like that in the oven.
I only do the thick ones and pan fry or grill to medium well. Maybe in the slow cooker?
I like them well done, but almost always fry them.
I do not like dry pork. I like the more fatty roasts or chops. Not that I like to eat the fat , but with pork often gives that sort of crispy on the out side and the fat kind of melts and flavors it
Sounds gross but taste so good, lol.
My mom had a recipe for me in the crock pot but it’s really… like how do I say this. Very basic (like something my grandfather used to make for them when they were little and money was tight) and some might even balk. But holy moly did it make my pork chops tender (and yummy).
I’ll have to ask her for the recipe again but it was pork chops, drowned in either tomato soup or tomato juice? And maybe even ALSO some salad dressing… like Catalina? Or maybe I’m mixing two of her recipes up.
But holy moly those pork chops were tender and yummy, and over mashed potatoes (when I used to eat them) or over rice… with the tomato-something and the pork juices that turned into a sort of gravy. SO good.
If you’re okay with tomato sauces, then you might just like this.
When it comes to pork chops, I like them on the bone, pan-fried in butter with lots of salt and pepper. I never seem to have “tough” issues with them. But the boneless ones are a PAIN to work with and yes I agree… tough.
If you ever happen to have fresh sage, throw it in with the butter. OMG.
YESSSSSS!!! I love doing that!!! GREAT IDEA.
Okay my mom just texted me back and she said:
Easy… pork chops, onions, salt and pepper and one big can of tomato juice. Put it together in the morning and let it cook all day on low.
My mom’s “basic” one was mushroom soup and onion soup mix. Sooo good. I’d do it with tough cuts of beef too.
Oh that’s a great idea!!!!! YES!!!!
I shall try this, sounds delish. These are the less fatty ones, no bone. So Iβll watch for drying out.
I finished all episodes of On My Bock on Netflix yesterday. I held off the last 2 seasons cuz it takes forever for new stuff to come out, finally caught up and that ending was so sad. Iβm sad and I want to go back. They havenβt cancelled or renewed yet as far as I know, but what a crap, albeit probably realistic ending.
Iβm reading Beach Read now. *hmph*
Maryse did you get the sirloin cap in your butcher box? I can’t remember. We’re grilling ours tonight with polenta and I’m making a roasted tomato vinaigrette to go on top. I’m scared I’m going to overcook it! It’s a lot smaller out of the package than I expected!
I think for me it was Ribeyes (2 of ’em – seem normal steak sized). 3 HUGE chicken breasts. 4 super thick pork chops, 2 squares of ground beef (a lb each I think?) and 3 lb s of chicken wings. Oh and a package of beef tips!!!
Dang you scored!
Definitely a great box! I was so happy.
Oooh. Make salt and vinegar wings.
DONE!!! ABSOLUTELY I WILL. Okay now… how to make salt and vinegar wings? Do I marinate them in vinegar? I’m so excited!!!!
I just found a keto/air fryer salt and vinegar chicken wings recipe AND I went ahead and ordered a salt & vinegar powder to sprinkle on ’em if I decide to. Reviews to come!! π
https://lowcarbyum.com/salt-and-vinegar-wings/
Awesome. I hope you like them. I’ve only had them from a deli at the store, lol. Wings aren’t my usual thing, though I like them.
I know I do like them more crispy, but I’m almost always like that. I like the crispy skin.
Made mulligatawny soup today…what we will be eating for 3 days because I hate cooking these days. One of my favourite recipes…even kids liked it.
https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/13087/mulligatawny-soup-i/
Oh wow I’ve never had that before but it sounds amazing too!!! Apples!!!
Yea, it can be made in a more healthy way…but the butter makes it! It really is delicious and even better the day after.
Never heard of this before, looks like a good 1 to try!
It’s a mild and really satisfying Indian soup. Popular with British living in India in 1800s…in cookbooks now. Can also make it with some red lentils.
Funny…for the longest time I thought it was Scottish. π
4 to 6 boneless pork chops. I always brown a little in a skillet. Put them in a casserole dish. Make stove top stuffing and put a portion on each pork chop. Cream of mushroom soup (prob 2 cans) with a little milk and seasonings in skillet with drippings. Pour over stuffing and pork chops. Foil over entire dish and bake at 350 for a good hour. This is pretty much comfort food and usually a winter dish but it is good.
I also marinate pork chops in salad dressing (The Olive Garden kind) and put on grill and everyone likes that for a summer get together. They donβt turn out so tough and dry.
JulieO This sounds perfect too!!! Both versions.
Your second one reminded me of when I used to do the greek pork chops (marinated in salt and pepper, olive oil and lemon juice and greek oregano… or dill – whichever maybe even both). π
Then I’d pan fry them and serve them with greek potato wedges and tons of feta all over it all. OH SO YUMMY!! And pretty tender considering the marinade.
Omg people, salivating…
Somebody wrote about a recipe for chicken fried steak that she made in her new pot that does it all. Canβt remember the name of it. I just want the recipe. An insta pot? If anybody knows let me know the recipe please!!!
Oh wow I would LOVE to know that!!!!!
Evidently today is National Stress Awareness day. I feel stressed and Iβm eating a mini chocolate Bundt cake to be aware. And comforted. π
Ate one of those small tub Hagen Dazs Chocolate Peanut Butter Ice cream yesterday…gone by end of day. ??? Are sure it isn’t National Chocolate Awareness Day?
FLT: “Heart pounding, I stared at the email preview illuminating the screen of my phone as if the devil himself had set it on fire.” Final Serenade by NN Britt!!
This one just released today and I’ve been so buried in ad class I almost missed it! Putting Hollywood on hold temporarily, but it’s a rockstar romance so sort of the same thing! Kind of! π
Wow, looks really good! Her book Rapture was on my TBR list so maybe it’s time to do some rockstar reads.
By the way, I finished my 3 TBR books, & then read one of the books you mentioned for your Hollywood run, Taming Hollywood’s Baddest Boy by Max Monroe.
Just loved it!! The characters (she’s a hoot), the parts in Alaska, the slow burn E-T-L, & Hollywooooood stuff too. Thanks!
Good to know! I have that coming up soon.
I loved Rapture but Severance is my favorite by her so far. That one gutted me! I have it on good authority I’m going to love Final Serenade even more.
I loved Final Serenade!! N.N. Britt does such a great job of going in an entirely new direction with her rock star storylines.
Gone With the Wind?
Bev–Yes! I’m experimenting with my favorite book representations. It was time for Jamie and Claire to go. I’m looking for a specific pic, but this one will do in the meantime.
thanks! hard to find a rockstar series I like. seem to have read them all. π
Mony, I also loved Taming Hollywood’s Baddest Boy!!! I highly recommend you give Rapture a go. I love all of her books but it’s my fave!
YES!! I have loved everything NN Britt has written….Final Serenade is no exception…it’s wonderful! She definitely writes a great rockstar romance. They suck me in and don’t let me go until the bitter end….of course this little gem has a cliffy….fortunately the second part of the duet is out very soon! I’m looking forward to it….stalking it might be a better term π
Wow, I’m excited to read all of these!
At some point maybe we should do something where we get people’s recommendations on more rockstar reads. Cause I sure missed this author… π
