Hi everyone! I’m STILL not reading…it’s like the stress of coronavirus invaded my brain and everything I used to like doing I’m not into anymore. However, in the pre-order section What’s Left of Me by Kristen Granata sounds good! And that cover!?! Hubba hubba 😜
Maryse, I’m loving the idea of that Essie sheer polish. Is it so sheer that if it chips a little you dont notice it? I hate chips which is why I dont do my nails (I’m too lazy to touch it up every day).
Ok, who is sick of cooking???? Man, I miss eating out. That was our family thing to do on weekends and it also gave me a little break. Its exhausting planning meals, trying to find new things and trying to not go to stores too much. Maybe I need to try Butcher Box? The good news is, I have found a few new recipes that were hits for the Instant Pot.
Bev, have you seen the YouTube of cast of Hamilton zoom singing on Jimmy Fallon? I stumbled on it last night and thought of you.
I KNOW!!! I LOVE that cover. I get you on the current stresses and preoccupation and struggling to focus on reading.
Though lately I feel like I’m read more solidly again. Thank goodness.
And yes!! That’s why I only ever wear pale – almost same color as my nails and sheer, because I don’t have to worry so much about touch up. I keep my nails fairly trimmed so I don’t want to draw attention to them anyway, and this is just pretty with a nice shine.
And also… I haven’t cooked in a couple of weeks. All I make are various salads, and sandwiches (low carb bread or wraps). And I’m loving the lighter, “cold” choices.
I absolutely love salads, slaws, sandwiches, wraps etc. Since I have to run out today maybe I will do a salad for supper!?!
My favorite is Cesar salad and sometimes I throw some chicken in there and ALWAYS bacon bits.
My other favorite is my cucumber tomato feta salad with lemon juice and olive oil. Sometimes I use mozzarella instead.
I’m craving feta and Greek-ish salad. I have kalamata olives, sun dried tomatoes, lemon and mint. I think I will buy some feta, cucumber and maybe some artichokes. Yum!! I’m so hungry.
Okay…now you’re just making me hungry 🙂
Not yet. Hamilton is so good!
Hey Leslie,
I’ve seen so many awesome book covers lately…I’ve thinking of skipping the stories and just looking at book covers for a bit…maybe you can join me. 😉
Hmm…trying to think of my book cover list… 🔥
Mony, I love going to Barnes & Noble and looking at all the book covers! I miss that. Can’t wait for the cooties to be over.
Yea, no stores for us either. Those covers aren’t too bad on computers though… 😮
It’s been a LOOOOOONG time since I’ve been in an actual bookstore. Years. I miss that smell SO much.
Yes, libraries too…loved being in those book stacks since I was a young girl…
I used to love going with my mom to book sales at the libraries. We’d come home with bags of very used (yet recent) paperbacks that we bought for a quarter each or even less.
We always felt like we hit the jackpot! We’d go early Saturday morning, be back by noon, and just read the whole weekend together. Amazing memories.
yes yes yes!
I received an ARC of What you Wish For by Katherine Center a while ago. I gave it 3 stars. I really enjoyed it. It was funny, insightful, and heartwarming. It lost the two stars because I wanted to shake some sense into de the h a few times, but I recommend it.
YAY!! Thank you for letting us know, Harper!! 😀
I decided to give the shapeshifters a chance and Im reading a few books of the genre for the first time (I read twilight, of course, a long time ago).
Any recommendations?
So far I read The Wildflower Series by Rachelle Mills, Becoming His by Albany Walker, Feral Sins by Suzanne Wright (tried the second book, but it was super tiresome) and now Im reading Bitten by Kelley Armstrong.
Patricia Briggs. Mercy Thompson is one of my favorite heroines.
It’s not werewolves…but if you’re going paranormal, I really enjoyed the Dark Elements series by Jennifer L. Armentrout….gargoyles & demons primarily.
I enjoyed Bitten….but as I do with any long running series…I lost interest after a few books (it’s a me thing…short attention span). I think maybe I could go back to them now though….hope you enjoy!!
Another series I enjoyed (shapeshifter-wise) is Dannika Dark’s Seven series. Also, I enjoyed the first couple of Hettie Ivers books in the Werelock Evolution series.
Also, the It’s You duet by Katy Regnery (writing as K.P. Kelley) was really enjoyable.
Thank you, Michelle! I’ll look for them right now 🙂
Patricia Briggs is excellent – I agree, bev. She’s a must-read. If you want to just try her out, her Alpha and Omega novella is an excellent intro and sampler of her style.
I also really liked the Seven series by Dannika Dark.
Nalini Singh’s psy-changeling series is also very popular. I used to really like them, but there are lots of books in the series and IMO the more recent ones have become a little tedious. (It’s probably just me, though LOL).
And for sexy, spicy shifters, Cherise Sinclair’s Wild Hunt series is good, but, menage alert in case that’s not your thing. It’s not usually my thing either, actually, but I did like the first two books.
Thanks a lot! So many good recomendations. My weekend will be busy now. Love it!!! I never really liked menage either, but in feral sin there was a really good scene.
I actually bought that book back when that scene was still in there. YAY ME!! I haven’t read it yet…
In case anybody has been reading the Forty Proof Series’s by Shannon Mayer, Book 3 Mid Life Demon Hunter is out and on KU. Needs to be read in order. Great series!
Oh I need to add it!!! Thank you Randi!!!
I read Katherine Center’s What You Wish For and Dear Emmie Blue by Lia Louise and really enjoyed them both. It was a good weekend 🙂 Although for a while, I wasn’t sure where my rating would land for What You Wish For (because I agree with Harper…the h drove me a little nuts), I still settled on 5 stars…I felt that she pulled it all together in a satisfying way for me by the end. Dear Emmie Blue caught me totally by surprise. I thought I’d most likely enjoy it…but I really loved it. Even though I could see some of the plot twists coming…I didn’t see them all. There were a few times with that one as well where I wanted to slap some sense into the h, but I’m beginning to think that’s more of a “me thing”…as in I’ve read too many books and have lost patience with the nonsense now. There were some really beautiful and realistic things (at least in my opinion) about Emmie Blue that secured it a 5 star rating as well from me.
Thanks Harper and Michele for the rec about Katherine Center’s What You Wish For…will definitely be reading it.
It’s not necessary because it works as a standalone but the H in WYWF is introduced in Happiness for Beginners which is great too.
Interesting that Rachel Gibson’s new book (soon to be released) is being reviewed as women’s fiction rather than romance. I used to love her earlier books e.g. See Jane Score was fabulous. I might wait before jumping into this new one. I’m big on romance and often, women’s fiction just doesn’t have enough romance for my tastes.
I agree that the Mercy Thomson series is great. Finished book #5 and will be reading the next one soon. Adam, the H, is a great alpha in this slow burn series. He reminds me of Curran (also a fantastic alpha of his pack) in the Kate Daniels series. Both series are really good.
I also enjoyed The Others series by Anne Bishop…however, it’s low on the romance scale (darn).
But my all time favourite book in this genre is Dragon Bound by Thea Harrison. I’m thinking it’s time to do a re-read. 🙂
Whoa!
Times have changed.
I have changed.
I didnt even think to rec Written in Red.
I must leave the Courtyard.
🤣🤣
Poor bev!!!!!
Ha ha ha. I remember when you used to rec that book so hard, and now you’ve forgotten it??? bev, bev, bev. *shakes head*.
I have to admit I struggled with the book. Mainly cos it didn’t have enough romance for moi, but yeah, I struggled with the basic concept of the written in red bit. Eek. Just no! It’s probably just me though, as I know it’s been a very popular series.
I haven’t posted much on my reading for a long time now. Life just has been hard. I found myself in a reading funk and NOTHING appealed to me. I looked thru my Kindle and thought I would give Balance by Lucia Franco a try. I downloaded it with Execution and Releases ages ago from your recommendation here. I abandoned Balance a few times because it just didn’t catch me – well, I picked it back up many months ago and I could not put it down. This series has EVERYTHING I look for in a book. Angst, the male lead was a Russian jerk – it was complicated by age. I could go on and on. I tore thru the 3 books, not knowing there was a fourth book. Well, amazon banned it and the other books. I caved and bought Twist on Apple (?) books. It was worth the price, but there was another huge cliffhanger, with no date on the fifth book. This is why I try to read an entire series – I’m just not patient and this series riveted me to distraction, and that hasn’t happened since Thoughtless. Finally, Dismount released early and I devoured it. I had to keep putting it down because I could only take the angst in small doses and I didn’t want it to end. I can’t recommend this series enough. Because the story is controversial, the author is going to be releasing re-edited books to conform with delicate sensitivity. I give this series a solid five plus stars. Happy angsty reading!
YAY!!!!!
1.) Thank you SO much for that feedback. It looks like the author has finalized the edits as the books are all available again on Amazon. 🙂
and
2.) I’m so glad you’re with us, and I’m thrilled you found a series to suck you back in to reading. I get it in regards to how crazy life is right now. But I’m so glad we are all still here together.
*big squeeeeeezy hug to you, Sharon*
First page line @ Thursday
It was so hot in this attic, not even the dust motes moved. They hung perfectly still in air as thick as soup, in the stripes of desultory sun that pushed through the tatters in the decaying calico curtains over windows opaque with decades of grime.
Carry the World by Susan Fanetti
Loved it!!!
Me too. Enjoy, mony. A beautiful book.
Thanks, I am enjoying it…one of my favourite parts is reading about Kentucky…a region I know little about.

I just finished this lovely HR about a former soldier from the Napoleonic War who had severe PTSD after being imprisoned, tortured and wounded, and the kind, understanding woman who helps him come back to the light. There’s a nice little mystery in the book too.
Lovely FLTs Bev and Jan..thanks for sharing.
